CHANGING ENGINE OIL CAUTION In case of oil leakage or malfunctions, contact an Aprilia Authorised Dealer . Do not dispose of oil in the environ- ment. Dispose of engine oil – stored in a sealed container – through the nearest waste oil reclamation firm or through the supplier. Carefully read page 34 (MAINTE- NANCE) To change engien oil: ◆ Ride for a few kilometres until engine reaches the operating temperature, then stop the engine. ◆ Position a graduated container (1), under the drain plug (2). ◆ Loosen oil filler plug (4) and drain plug (2). ◆ Let oil flow out of the sump. ◆ Loosen oil filter (3) and carefully clean it. ◆ Refit the filter and tighten fully. ◆ Tighten drain plug (2) and pour recommended oil into filler plug (4), see page 58 (LUBRICANT CHART). ◆ Tighten the filler plug. CAUTION Carefully tighten filler and drain plugs and ensure oil does not leak out. Periodically check for leaks at the casing cover gasket. Do not use the vehicle with insufficient lubrication or with contaminated or unsuitable lubricants, since this would cause early wear of the moving parts and may also cause irreparable failures Fluid reservoir (1) is under rear right wheelhouse. CAUTION Position the vehicle on firm and flat ground. ◆ Make sure that the fluid contained in the reservoir exceeds the ” MIN ” mark stamped on the reservoir. MIN = minimum level. WARNING Do not use the vehicle if the braking system is leaking fluid. CAUTION Do not use the vehicle if the fluid is below the “MIN” mark. 1

Outlined below is a quick brake pad inspection procedure: ◆ Visually check between brake disc and pads, check both pads (1) looking from the bottom at the rear end. ◆ Should friction material (of even one pad only) be worn down to 1.5 mm of thickness, have both pads replaced

Start on either the left or right side mirror. These instructions start with the right side mirror. Pull back the rubber boot covering the mirror mount. 1 2 3 Remove the accessory compartment cover. Remove the four screws on all sides of the accessory compartment. Remove the accessory compartment from the motorcycle fairing and set it aside. 4 The motorcycle’s electrical wiring for turn indicators is located forward of the accessory compartment cavity and behind the front amber turn indicator light. Disconnect the wire connected to the turn indicator light. 5 There are three screws holding the mirror housing to the mirror mount. Remove the three screws. Set the mirror housing aside.
Mirror Replacement – 2 – Remove the three screws holding the hinge to the mirror housing. Remove the hinge and remove the rubber boot surrounding the mirror housing. 1 Match the base of the hinge up to the new Signal® mirror housing. Mark the place on the hinge where the Signal® mirror wire will go through. Drill a ¼” hole in the hinge. 2 Position the rubber boot over the Signal® mirror housing. 3 Guide the Signal® mirror wire harness through the drilled hole in the hinge. Mount the hinge on the Signal® mirror housing using the original three screws.

When filling with fluid, leave extension housing drain plug loose about 7 or 8 turns. After filling, tighten drain plug.

Removal 1) Mark and remove hood. Remove battery. Remove engine under cover (splash) shields. Drain coolant, engine oil and transaxle fluid. Mark and disconnect vacuum hoses and electrical connectors. 2) Remove air cleaner assembly. Disconnect coolant hoses. Mark and disconnect throttle, cruise, and kickdown cables (ifequipped). Mark and disconnect fuel inlet and return hoses. 3) Remove fuel tank protectors. Remove airflow meter assembly. Remove transaxle protector (if equipped). Remove accessory drive belts. Remove alternator. 4) Disconnect oil cooler hoses (if equipped). Disconnect power steering pump and A/C compressor and set aside (if equipped). Disconnect speedometer cable from transaxle. Remove clutch slave cylinder (if equipped). Mark and remove shift control cable(s). 5) Remove cruise control actuator assembly (if equipped). Raise vehicle and disconnect exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold.

Install cylinder head a. Place a new cylinder head gasket on the engine block and install cylinder head. b. Apply a light coat of engine oil on the threads and washer face of the cylinder head bolts. c. Install the plate washer to the cylinder head bolt. d. Using a 12-point socket, install and uniformly tighten the (8) 12-point bolts in several passes, in the sequence shown in the illustration. Torque: 33 ft.lbs. (44 N-m, 450 kg-cm) e. Repeat for the other head. 2. Proceed with final tightening sequences: a. Mark the front side of the top of the bolt with a drop of paint as shown in the illustration

Remove right side Foot peg assembly or Floorboard. (Whichever is applicable to your model.) 2. Remove bolts that are holding pipes at rear mounting bracket. 3. Loosen clamps at mufflers. 4. Remove mufflers. 5. Remove the two nuts that secure the rear exhaust header pipe to the rear cylinder head. 6. Remove rear exhaust pipe assembly. 7. Remove the two nuts that secure the front exhaust header pipe to the front cylinder head. 8. Remove front exhaust pipe assembly. 9. Remove exhaust-mounting bracket from frame. Hard-Krome Exhaust System Installation NOTE: Take care when fitting this Hard-Krome aftermarket exhaust system on your motorcycle. It has been designed to replace a STOCK exhaust system on a motorcycle with its engine, frame and other components in their STOCK design, configuration and location. WARNING : Re-check and re-tighten ALL fasteners and supports after 50 miles, then re-check and tighten as necessary on a periodic basis to ensure proper operation and performance. NOTE: All fasteners should be loose during initial installation to ensure proper fit and location of the new exhaust system.
1. Install new exhaust gaskets. 2. Install mounting bracket using Bolts with flat & lock washers. (See Illustration) 3. Install Front exhaust header pipe, taking care to not scratch chrome surfaces on pipe, engine or motorcycle — use masking tape as needed. 4. Install the two nuts to secure the flange that holds the exhaust header pipe to the front cylinder head — DO NOT TIGHTEN NUTS! 5. Install nut strip into slotted bracket of front pipe and start the 3/8-16×3/4″ Bolt with flat & lock washer through backside of mounting bracket. — DO NOT TIGHTEN BOLTS! 6. Carefully install rear pipe. 7. Install the two nuts to secure the flange that holds the exhaust header pipe to the rear cylinder head — DO NOT TIGHTEN NUTS! 8. Install nut strip into slotted bracket of rear pipe and start the 3/8-16×3/4″ Bolt with flat & lock washer through backside of mounting bracket. — DO NOT TIGHTEN BOLTS! 9. Tighten the two bolts that secure the rear exhaust header pipe flange. 10. Tighten the two bolts that secure the front exhaust header pipe flange. 11. Tighten front pipe bolts at mounting bracket. 12. Tighten rear pipe bolts at mounting bracket. 13. Reinstall foot peg assembly or floorboard. 14. If applicable to your model install foot peg relocating brackets and foot pegs as shown in illustration. 15. Before starting bike wipe off any fingerprints and grease off pipes. Start bike and check for any exhaust leaks.
