Toyota has restyled its popular RAV4 compact sport utility vehicle for 2009. The new standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine is more powerful than the previous 2.4-liter engine and is more fuel efficient. In addition, all RAV4 models feature interior upgrades and a comprehensive new Sport Appearance Package is available for the 4WD V6 model. All RAV4 models receive enhanced safety and security features with standard front seat active headrests and an engine immobilizer. Comfort, convenience and user technology are also significantly enhanced in 2009 RAV4 models. The Limited grade adds a new standard Smart Entry system that allows the driver to open the vehicle by simply carrying the key fob and grasping the door handle. The Sport and Limited grades offer an available new rear backup monitor. Integrated satellite radio is newly available for 2009, and the Sport and Limited grades offer a new low-cost navigation system. All RAV4 models gain new standard seat fabric, and the Sport grade exclusively offers a new, unique Charcoal leather option.

B. Removal of Stock Intake Manifold (figure 1)
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. With tape or a permanent marker, mark the forward edge of the power steering and the air conditioning compressor drive belts (figure 2). This will ensure that the belts will be returned to their original positions and that they will rotate in the same direction. If you reverse the direction of rotation, it may cause the belts to fray.

Step 16: Use the cup remover tool included with the kit to remove both plastic cups on the original shifter. To do so, place the cup remover tool on top of the open jaws of a vice, the jaws should be approximately 1” apart. Hang the shifter from the tool as shown, be sure the shifter is inserted completely into the slot in the tool. Insert a punch into the center hole through the plastic cup and tap firmly with a hammer to separate the original shifter from cup. Engine Oil Replacement • Replace the engine oil after the first 50 miles or 1 hour with 5w50, 10w50 or 15W50 synthetic engine oil. Then replace again every 1,500 miles or 1 each year. Check oil level every 500 miles, add oil if needed. Changing the Engine Oil (1).Warm up the engine for a few minutes. (2).Stop the engine. (3). Place scooter on center stand. (4).Place an oil pan under the engine and remove the dipstick. (5).Remove the drain plug and drain the oil. Reach in drain hole, pull out filter clean and reinstall, after all oil drains out. (6).Reinstall drain plug. (7). Fill the engine with oil until the level is in the designated area on the dipstick. (8).Start the engine and check for oil leaks. If a leak is found stop the engine immediately and look for cause. Rear Wheel Oil Replacement • Replace the gear oil after the first 500 miles with 5W/50 synthetic engine oil. Replace the gear oil again every 4 months or every 2000 miles. • Replacing the Gear Oil (1).Put the scooter on the center stand (please see photo below) . (2).Place an oil pan under the gear case (please see photo below) . (3).Remove the oil filler bolt and the drain plug to drain the oil (please see photo below) . (4).Reinstall and tighten the drain plug. (5).Fill the gear case with oil (please see photo below) . (6).Reinstall the oil filler bolt. (7).Check for oil leakage. Cleaning Air Cleaner Be sure to check the air cleaner regularly. (1).Place the scooter on the center stand. (2).Unscrew and remove the left side panel. (3).Remove the air cleaner cover by removing the screws. (4).Take out the air cleaner by removing the screws. (5).Remove the air cleaner element and wash it gently, but thoroughly in solvent. Replace if damaged. (6).Squeeze out the excess solvent and dry it. (7).Apply oil to the entire surface of the air cleaner and squeeze out the excess oil. It should be damp but not dripping. Disconnect negative battery cable. On 2.2L (5S-FE) models,
remove battery and cruise control actuator. On all models, remove air
cleaner case with air intake hose. Remove clutch release cylinder with
hose attached and secure aside.
2) Remove starter. Disconnect necessary ground straps,
electrical connections and control cables from transaxle. Remove upper
transaxle mounting bolts from cylinder block.
3) Raise and support vehicle. Remove front wheels. Remove
lower engine covers. Drain transaxle fluid. Remove axle shafts from
transaxle. See AXLE SHAFTS article in AXLE SHAFTS & TRANSFER CASES

STOCK EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL 1. Remove right side frame cover. 2. If motorcycle is oxygen sensor equipped, remove passenger seat. Remove two bolts securing operator seat and set seat aside. Locate and unplug oxygen sensor connector from wiring harness (Figure 1).(Note wire routing for reassembly). 3. Remove right side floorboard assembly held in place by two bolts (Figure 2). 4. Remove exhaust port flange nuts. 5. Remove flange bolts securing rear muffler to exhaust system mounting bracket. 6. Remove complete exhaust system. Start by removing front head pipe from exhaust port (assistance may be required). 7. Check condition of stock exhaust gaskets. Replace if damaged or worn. 8. Remove plastic hose clamp securing rear brake hose to swingarm.Save for re-use. 9. Remove brake hose banjo bolt from rear caliper. 10. Slide hose out of loops in swingarm. 11. Remove three bolts holding stock exhaust mounting bracket and slide bracket off end of brake hose. 12. Slide brake hose through loop on new bracket (stamped 357-P) and install to the original mounting bracket location, using three 8mm x 16mm Allen bolts (supplied) (Figure 3). 13. Check condition of sealing washers on banjo bolt and replace if damaged or worn. 14. Slide brake hose through loops on swingarm and reconnect brake hose to caliper. 15. Reinstall plastic clip onto swingarm. 16. Brake system must be bled or brake will not operate correctly.

1 Remove the seat. 2 Lift up the front of the fuel tank. 3 Disconnect the wiring harness from the injector on the left hand side of the bike by pushing up (squeeze) on the spring clips from the injector connector (Fig. A). Plug one of the leads from the PCIII in line of the connectors you just unplugged. 4 Repeat step 3 for the right hand side (Fig. B). 5 Locate the throttle position sensor on the trottle bodies. Locate the yellow wire with the brown tracer coming from the sensor. Connect the wire tap to this wire. Plug the grey wire from the PCIII into this connector (Fig. C). It is recommended to seal this connector with dialectric grease or silicone.
