Wiring Installation: 1. Remove the four M8x1.25 socket head cap screws from the seat and remove the passenger handles and seat. 2. Remove both rear side covers, and right front side cover. 3. Remove the two M3 Phillips head screws and two trim clips from the right front storage pocket. 4. The shorter section of the harness will end at the brake lines. Continue along the brake lines to the main harness of the motorcycle to the shelter, then up through the shelter to the pocket area. 5. Locate the harness connectors under the pocket. Go to step 6. 2006 & NEWER MODELS 2006 & NEWER MODELS 2006 & NEWER MODELS 2006 & NEWER MODELS Route the long end of harness (blue wire and orange wire), under the relay box and connect to the Positions Relay. 6. Connect the orange wire to the orange wire with white tracer using a scotch-lok connector. Connect the blue wire to the light blue wire with white tracer using a scotch-lok connector. 7. Route the red and white wires behind the fuel tank, along the left side wiring harness to the fuse box. 8. Connect the RED wire with eyelet connector attached, to the positive side of the accessory terminal in the fuse box. 9. Connect the WHITE wire to the negative battery terminal. 10. Connect the brown wire with white tracer to the brown wire with white tracer (tail relay in relay box) using a scotch-lok connector. 11. Route the orange wire with black tracer and the white wire behind the fuel tank, with at least 6 inches of wire left hanging below the bike. 12. Reinstall the right fairing pocket with the two M3 Phillips head screws and two trim clips. 13. Replace the right front side cover and the right and left rear side covers. 14. Replace the seat and passenger grip handles with the four M8 x 1.25 socket head cap screws

Modify your factory light bar cover to fit on Yamaha brand driving/passing lights. Use a rotary tool to widen the fastening area of the lower backside clips on the cover. The total width between the clips should be 4 æ inches. Trim off º inch on both inside ends of the lower backside attachment clips. Trim the clips equally. The following picture shows a modified cover. Narrow the clips on both ends to fit over the welds on the bar. The cover will not attach to the bar if the width between the clips is too narrow. If the width is too wide the cover may slide sideways on the bar. Narrow both clips equally to center the cover over the welds on the lower edge of the bar. The top of the cover is modified to allow the cover to fit over the bolts on the light bar. The top edge of the cover is filed æ inch deep and 5/8 inch wide to fit over the bolts. The back top edge is filed or ground 1/8 inch to fit over the light bar fastening bracket. Use care when filing chrome covered plastic. The following picture will help to complete this step in the modification. Modify your factory light bar cover to fit on Yamaha brand driving/passing lights. The ends of the cover are modified to allow the cover to fit over the upward curved light bar. The upper openings on the ends of the cover that fit over the bar must be filed to enlarge the area. Grinding the cover ends will allow the cover to fit and clip onto the bar. The end openings are filed or ground at an angle to match the slope of the bar. This picture shows the outer end of the cover. The ends of this cover have been modified by enlarging the area on the upper edges to fit over the upward curving light bar. The ends must be enlarged 1/8 inch on the top edge. The cover edge can be slanted upward to match the curved bar. Modify the cover ends until it fits without the outer chrome cover touching the bar. Modify your factory light bar cover to fit on Yamaha brand driving/passing lights. Sometimes the modified light bar cover may touch the bottom of the headlight. Modify the cover, or adjust the bar or headlight if you notice the headlight touching the bar cover. This modification makes the V-Star motorcycle with Yamaha driving lights look better. The light bar bolts are covered and the chrome cover improves the appearance of the front of your bike. Other V-Star riders will notice how nice the front of your bike looks with the chrome light bar cover installed

1. Inspect the motorcycle for a punch mark as described in Identification on page 2. If a punch mark is present no further action is necessary, return the unit to the customer. 2. Qualify the unit/customer as follows: •Is the tire on the motorcycle the original factory installed tire? •Is the air pressure loss more than three psi per month? Note: Refer to page 145 in the Owner’s Manual. “Even tires that are in good condition may lose one to two psi per month if not checked and adjusted regularly” . If the GL1800 meets the above qualifications, proceed with the repair procedure. 3. Place the motorcycle on a lift and secure it on the centerstand. 4. Remove the rear wheel as described on page 14-9 of the Service Manual. 5. Starting at the valve stem/balance mark area, carefully remove the rear tire from the wheel. Be sure to use plenty of commercially available tire lubricant on the inside and outside of both beads. 6. Carefully inspect the entire circumference of both tire beads. Inspect both the inside and outside of the bead for any distortion or injuries. INSTALLATION ON 2004 MODELS 1. Turn off the ignition switch and disconnect the battery ground cable before proceeding. 2. Refer to Figures 2 and 3 for wiring details. 3. Remove the Gill Module. 4. Cut off the OE 18 terminal AMP connector used with the Gill module. Refer to the terminal list. Crimp new Deutsch terminals on the wires, and install into the 12 terminal Deutsch connector required by the TC88A-IH module. 5. Install the new TC88A-IH module. 6. Reconnect the battery ground cable. INSTALLATION ON 2005 AND LATER MODELS 1. Turn off the ignition switch and disconnect the battery ground cable before proceeding. 2. Refer to Figures 4 and 5 for wiring details. 3. Remove the Gill Module. 4. Cut off the OE 18 terminal AMP connector used with the Gill module. 5. The crankshaft position (CKP), MAP, and engine temperature (ET) sensor share a common ground Daytona Twin Tec LLC, 933 Beville Road, Suite 101-H, S. Daytona, FL 32119 TC88A-IH (386) 304-0700 www.daytona-twintec.com 10/2009 Page 2 return. This is not compatible with the TC88A-IH and some rewiring will be required. The temperature sensor is not used, but does not require removal. 6. Trace the BK/GN ground return wires from terminal B of the ET sensor and terminal A of the MAP sensor to where they join the BK/GY ground return wire from the CKP sensor. Cut the ET and MAP sensor ground return wires off at this point. You can tape up the ground return wire from the ET sensor – this wire will not be used. 7. Extend the ground return wire from terminal A of the MAP sensor up to the ignition module, crimp on a Deutsch terminal and install in position 4 on the Deutsch connector. 8. Refer to the terminal list. Crimp new Deutsch terminals on the remaining wires, and install into the 12 terminal Deutsch connector required by the TC88A-IH module. 9. Use a DVM to verify isolation (no continuity) between terminals 4 and 9 on the Deutsch connector. 10. Verify continuity between terminal A at the MAP sensor and terminal 4 on the Deutsch connector. 11. Verify continuity between terminal 2 at the CKP sensor and terminal 9 on the on the Deutsch connector. 12. Install the new TC88A-IH module. 13. Reconnect the battery ground cable. Relocation of Regulator. Laying under the right side of the motorcycle, locate the voltage regulator. (finned aluminum box-approximately 3″x 4″) Note: See photo #1 – regulator already relocated. Remove the (2) 10 mm bolts attaching the regulator to the frame. Attach the bracket supplied to the regulator as shown. Using the original bolts, attach the regulator and bracket assembly to the frame as shown in photo #1 using the two 10 mm bolts supplied. Clamping Centerstand to Frame . Notice the centerstand is shipped with (2) white plastic washers. Note: See photo #2-A These are in place to overcome the spring tension or lock the stand in place and allow you to pivot the lower stand down partially to make installation easier. Pivot the upper stand about half way from the retracted to the extended (down) position. Note: This will require some force. If the stand will not stay in the position you can further tighten the two 9/16″ pivot nuts. Remove the bolts from the four band clamps. Wrap the (2) small clamps around the small upper frame tube and start the bolts so that the bolt will be at the bottom of the tube and the wrench head facing towards the rear of the motorcycle. Note: See photo #2. Center the stand on the frame from side to side so as to gain even clearance between the feet on the centerstand and the rear tire when the stand is in the retracted position. Holding the larger cradle up against the frame, tighten the (2) small clamps enough to hold the centerstand in place. Install one of the large clamps as shown in photo #3-A. Install the 2nd large clamp as shown in photo #2-C. Again retract the stand and check that the feet have even amounts of space from the side of the rear tire. Tighten the flour clamps securely 5-7 ft. lbs. Next remove the (2) 9/16″ pivot nuts and the white plastic washers as shown in photo #2-A. Re-install and tighten the 9/16″ pivot nuts securely 8-12 ft lbs. With the stand in the retracted position-adjust the stop bolt and lock nut, see photo #3-B, so that the stand is parallel with the ground and does not come in contact with any parts of the motorcycle. Using your new centerstand . To put the motorcycle up onto the centerstand, hold the left handle bar and saddlebag guard rail or grab under the bottom of the seat. Using the ball of your right foot, lower the stand to the ground. Rock the motorcycle from side to side slightly until you feel both feet of the stand touching the ground. Now put all of your weight onto the centerstand pedal (stand on it). Pull up and back on the grab rail or seat using a rocking motion to rock the motorcycle up onto the stand. Remember it is a matter of using your body weight and leverage not lifting!

1. Locate the stock flasher unit on your motorcycle and remove it. Refer to your motorcycle’s shop manual. 2. Using either the test light or voltmeter, connect or touch one lead to the chassis or ground. Turn on the ignition switch. 3. Then touch the probe of either the test-light or the other lead of the voltmeter to one of wires or contacts where the flasher was removed from. If using the test-light, the light will light up when the supply line has been located. If using the voltmeter, the meter will indicate a voltage value, if present. Important Notice: Verify which grounding type your motorcycle is using before performing one of the following procedures. This can simply be done by seeing which terminal of the battery is connected to the motorcycle’s chassis or frame. Figure 3 • Positive Earth: Connect the black wire (-V) into the contact that indicated power was present. Plug the white wire (O/P) into the other contact, which did not have any power present. Turn off the ignition switch. Cut off the connector on the red wire w/ fuse holder (+V); strip the insulation back about ¼” (6 mm) and install the ring terminal on the wire, then ground the ring terminal to a chassis bolt or screw. If ground is not available via the chassis, then connect to an earth (ground) wire from the wiring harness. • Negative Ground: Connect red wire w/ fuse holder (+V) into the contact that indicated power was present. Plug the white wire (O/P) into the other contact, which did not have any power present. Turn off the ignition switch. Cut off the connector on the black wire (-V); strip the insulation back about ¼” (6 mm) and install the ring terminal on the wire, then ground the ring terminal to a chassis bolt or screw. If ground is not available via the chassis, then connect to a ground wire from the wiring harness
