Modify your factory light bar cover to fit on Yamaha brand driving/passing lights. Use a rotary tool to widen the fastening area of the lower backside clips on the cover. The total width between the clips should be 4 æ inches. Trim off º inch on both inside ends of the lower backside attachment clips. Trim the clips equally. The following picture shows a modified cover. Narrow the clips on both ends to fit over the welds on the bar. The cover will not attach to the bar if the width between the clips is too narrow. If the width is too wide the cover may slide sideways on the bar. Narrow both clips equally to center the cover over the welds on the lower edge of the bar. The top of the cover is modified to allow the cover to fit over the bolts on the light bar. The top edge of the cover is filed æ inch deep and 5/8 inch wide to fit over the bolts. The back top edge is filed or ground 1/8 inch to fit over the light bar fastening bracket. Use care when filing chrome covered plastic. The following picture will help to complete this step in the modification. Modify your factory light bar cover to fit on Yamaha brand driving/passing lights. The ends of the cover are modified to allow the cover to fit over the upward curved light bar. The upper openings on the ends of the cover that fit over the bar must be filed to enlarge the area. Grinding the cover ends will allow the cover to fit and clip onto the bar. The end openings are filed or ground at an angle to match the slope of the bar. This picture shows the outer end of the cover. The ends of this cover have been modified by enlarging the area on the upper edges to fit over the upward curving light bar. The ends must be enlarged 1/8 inch on the top edge. The cover edge can be slanted upward to match the curved bar. Modify the cover ends until it fits without the outer chrome cover touching the bar. Modify your factory light bar cover to fit on Yamaha brand driving/passing lights. Sometimes the modified light bar cover may touch the bottom of the headlight. Modify the cover, or adjust the bar or headlight if you notice the headlight touching the bar cover. This modification makes the V-Star motorcycle with Yamaha driving lights look better. The light bar bolts are covered and the chrome cover improves the appearance of the front of your bike. Other V-Star riders will notice how nice the front of your bike looks with the chrome light bar cover installed

1 (Fig. 1) 3 Apply glue to the throttle sleeve. Most of the glue should be applied to the end of the sleeve away from the throttle housing. 4 Slide the grip onto throttle sleeve with one strong push (Fig. 2). NOTE: Be sure not to get any glue into the space between the throttle sleeve and the throttle sleeve housing, as well as the space between the throttle sleeve and the handle bar. Wipe up any excess glue immediately. Allow 6 hours for glue to set before using . GRIPS Remove clutch side grip by carefully cutting it away from the handlebar with a sharp knife. 1 Apply glue to the bar. Most of the glue should be applied to the end of the bar away from the switch housing. 2 Slide the grip onto the bar with one strong push. Wipe away any excess glue immediately. Allow 6 hours for glue to set before using. (Fig. 3)

1. Make certain the motorcycle is securely positioned for this installation. Cover the front fender with a protective cloth to avoid scratches. 2 . Remove caps that cover the headlight screws. Remove headlight screws. (Small Screwdriver and #2 Phillips Screwdriver) Figure 1 and 2. 3. Disconnect headlight at two places. Set light aside. Figure 3. 4. Disconnect the Right (Orange) and Left (Blue) turn signal connectors. 5. Remove the Screws with the 8mm hex head that hold the turn signal bar to the under side of triple clamp. Remove turn signal bar. Bar and screws will not be re-used. (8mm Socket) Figure 4. PREPARATION INSTALLATION 6. Mount the Light Bar Assembly. Hold Light Bar in place at underside of triple clamp. WIRE LIGHT BAR HELPFUL WIRE TIPS: A. Keep the Right and Left Wires of the Light Bar in separate groups. B. Remove the Factory Grips Before removing the factory grips, the”chromed plastic”grip end caps need to be removed. The chromed plastic ends are threaded on, but have”left hand”threads, which means to unscrew you need to turn them clockwise. (The opposite way that you would normally unscrew something) To do that I recommend using, either a rubber strap wrench, ora sheet of thin rubber used as you would to loosen the lid of ajar. Once Ihadtheend caps off, I used a sharp utility knife to cut through, and peel off the factory rubber grips. (They are only about 1/8″thicksoit’seasytodo.) With the rubber grips off, I removed the chromed ring that is adjacent to the left switch housing. The left ring will come off, witha gentle pull, but the throttle side ring will need to be cutoff, as it’s pressed on. It’seasytodo; I cut it off using wire side cutters (see picture on page 3 below). 2 Factory left and right Grips After removing the chromed end cap, and the factory rubber grips. The chromed plastic ring next to the switch housing needs to be cut off. Note all the ridges on the sleeve, all these except one ridge need to be filed off. 1. Prepare left handlebar for grip installation The left handlebar is pretty easy to prepare, first I cleaned any glue from the bar, and then gently test fit the left grip, be very careful here as it needs to slide on easily. Asper the instructions, ” Do not force the grip on with anything greater than gentle hand force “. Remember after the test fit you need to take it off again. (You could also crack the heated grip if it’stootight). If you find it too tight, as I did sand the bar using sandpaper until it slides on and off easily. On my bike I used an 80 grit sandpaper, and it took approx 20 minutes to geta good fit

Air cleaner – Clean and reoil daily or after each moto to prevent motor failure and reduced performance. Transmission oil – change after every race, or at end of riding day. Chain – check tension and lubricate before every ride, adjust or replace as needed. Reoil after riding in damp conditions. Clutch – disassemble and clean clutch assembly frequently, every 2-3 races at least. Inspect kickstarter gears at this time. Ignition cover – remove cover and wipe dry after each ride or after washing bike to remove condensation. Piston rings – replace as often as every 3-5 races with expert rider, less often with less aggressive riders. Piston, pin, rod bearing & circlips – replace as often as every 8-10 races with expert rider, less often with less aggressive riders. Coolant – change yearly, make sure there is at least a 50/50 mixture of antifreeze if freezing temperatures are possible. Steering bearings – Check daily for looseness or play. Adjust and regrease as needed. Swingarm – Check often for looseness. Regrease several times a year. Replace bushings if any play is evident. Sprockets – check for worn or curved teeth each time chain is adjusted. Chain roller& wear pads – check roller for free rotation when checking chain. Make sure roller is not bent or damaged. Check chain wear strips on swingarm and chain guide frequently. Replace as needed to prevent chain from damaging motorcycle. Spokes – Check after each race or after each day of riding for looseness or damage. Wheels & tires – check wheels after each race for dents, cracks or other damage. Check tires for cuts, damage or wear. Check tire pressure daily and adjust for riding conditions. Shock – Check shaft area daily for signs of oil leakage or damage. Check swingarm and shock bushings for looseness. Forks – Check forks daily for leaking oil or damage to tubes. Make sure forks are not twisted check for smooth operation. Spark plug – check sparkplug color and condition after each race or end of riding day. Adjust jetting to keep plug from fouling or overheating. Silencer – If bike seems to be getting louder, replace packing and decarbonize inner tube. Expansion pipe – check daily for large dents, damage or leakage. Remove carbon from headpipe when pipe is removed. Have large dents fixed, or any dents within 8″ of the cylinder. Replace o-rings on pipe as needed to maintain a good seal. Footpegs – check daily for proper operation, pegs should spring back into place. Make sure pegs are not bent or overly dull. Handlebars – check bars after any crash for bending. Look for cracks near bar clamps. Replace bars that have been straightened more than 2 or three times, or if bar is badly bent. Aweakened bar can snap suddenly causing injury to rider. Throttle – check throttle for proper operation each time before bike is started. Remove and clean inside of grip and bar as needed. Grips – check grips daily for wear or looseness. Replace as needed. Use grip glue & safety wire to help hold grips in position. Calipers & pads – check pad wear and caliper function daily or after each race. Replace pads and clean calipers as needed. Brake lever – check lever daily for damage or wear. Make sure lever is at proper angle for both seated and standing positions. Leave lever clamp loose enough to allow clamp to rotate during crash rather than breaking lever. Check and adjust freeplay as needed. Brake pedal – Check pedal daily for damage and proper freeplay. Adjust rear caliper as needed. Reeds – Remove and inspect reed block during every ring change. Check reeds for signs of wear, fraying and cracking. Make sure reeds sit flat and seal well. Replace at any sign of wear or damage or at least once a year, more often for expert riders. Nuts & bolts – Check all nuts and bolts regularly. Make sure to check engine mounting bolts and swingarm bolt frequently

1. Put a pair of male and female clamp halves together just above the lower triple-clamp. Squeeze the ends of the clamp together with a pair of pliers. Diagram A. 2. Have an assistant position the Light Bar Assembly so the lightbar bracket is to the outside of the clamp assembly. Make sure the wires from the Light Bar Assembly are below the lower triple clamp. Diagram B. 3. Insert a Screw through the clamp and Light Bar Assembly mounting bracket and thread on an Acorn Nut. 4. Hold the Light Bar Assembly in place in front of the lower triple clamp, assemble and attach the remaining clamps. 5. With all four clamp assemblies in place, tighten the clamping screws and nuts to 15 ft. lbs. (21 Nm). Refer to the service manual to gain access to the wire harness inside the fuel tank tunnel or inside the frame backbone. Also, verify the appropriate color wires for hook-up of the passing lamps and turnsignals and running lights. Route the wires from the Light Bar Assembly, around the lower triple- clamp, and up to the frame backbone. Secure the wires so they cannot become pinched when turning the fork. A. The short black wires from the Light Bar Assembly connect to the wires powering the running lights. B. The short red wires from the Light Bar Assembly connect to the wires powering the turnsignals. C. The long blue wires from the Light Bar Assembly connect to the wire powering the headlight low beam. After the wires are connected, verify the operation of the passing lamps, running lights and turnsignals. Correct any connection problems before reassembling the motorcycle. Reinstall the fuel tank. Check all fasteners used during this installation for tightness

This kit is designed for installation on 1986 and later FLST®, FLSTC®, FLSTN®and 1991 and later Touring models. (Except 2004 and later FLHRS®and FLTR®) NOTE: Will not fit when equipped with Flat Lens Turn Signal Module (Part Number 91699-99A). Installation 1. Disconnect turn signal wires. For 1999 and later models: See Figure 1. Remove taillight cover and disconnect turn signal wires at connectors shown in illustration. For 1998 and earlier models: Disconnect turn signal wires at connectors located in directional bar. On 1994 and later models there are two wires for each turn signal lamp. Earlier models have only 1 wire per lamp. 2. Remove existing directional bar from motorcycle and save hardware for re-installation. If the turn signal connector is too large to be removed from the directional bar, remove the wires from the connector as follows: Bend back the connector latches on the sides of the connector slightly to free the secondary lock. Rotate the secondary lock outward on hinge to access terminals in chambers of connector housing. With a paper clip sharpened to a chisel point, insert the paper clip into the connector housing cavity until it stops. Pivot the end of the paper clip and gently tug on the wire to pull the terminal from the cavity. Do not tug on the wire until the tang that holds the terminal in the cavity is released. Take your time, a few tries may be required before you develop a feel for releasing the terminal from the connector. 3. Remove screws that mount turn signals lamps to existing directional bar. Remove lamps and turn signal wires (with their attached connector halves) from existing bar. 4. Position directional bar in mounting location at rear fender and secure bar to motorcycle using original hardware removed in step 2. Route turn signal wires from motorcycle back into directional bar, or up to taillamp (if 1999 and later model) and mate connectors. If the wires were removed from the connector in step 2, insert the terminal ends of the wires into the connector until they snap in place, then mate connector halves.

INSTALLATION NOTE The Detachable Sissy Bar Upright can be installed on either a two-point or four-point Docking Kit. 1. If not already in place, install the Detachable Docking Hardware Kit (either two-point or four-point) to the vehicle per the instructions in that kit. 2. See Figure 2. While standing behind the motorcycle, place the left-side and right-side front upright notches (with bushings in place) onto the docking points (A) inboard of the upper shock absorber mounts. Make sure the notch bushings (9) seat fully into the shock absorber docking points. 3. See Figure 2, arrows (D) and (E), and Figure 1. Position the rotary latches (4) over the rear docking points (3). Check to be sure the upright sides (1) and latches fit into the neck (7) of the rear docking points as shown. This may require some gentle squeezing or spreading of the sissy bar upright sides. NOTE After installing the sissy bar upright, check to be sure the sissy bar is secure. The front and rear docking points must be fully engaged. See Figure 1 for correct engagement. 4. Push the rear of the sissy bar downward and close the latches by pressing the latch lever as far forward as it will go. You will hear a “CLICK” when the latch is in place. If the latch does not easily close, do not force. Check the sissy bar alignment again, as described in steps 2 and 3. 5. To remove the sissy bar upright, press the release button (G) on each side and pull the latch levers back. Carefully lift the rear of the sissy bar up and pull the upright out of the front docking points

INSTALLATION 1. Disconnect turn signal wires at connectors located in directional bar. On 1994 and later models there are two wires for each turn signal lamp. Earlier models have only 1 wire per lamp. 2. Remove existing directional bar from motorcycle. Save all hardware for reattachment. If the turn signal connector is too large to be removed from the directional bar, remove the wires from the connector as follows: Bend back the connector latches on the sides of the connector slightly to free the secondary lock. Rotate the secondary lock outward on hinge to access terminals in chambers of connector housing. With a paper clip sharpened to a chisel point, insert the paper clip into the connector housing cavity until it stops. Pivot the end of the paper clip and gently tug on the wire to pull the terminal from the cavity. Do not tug on the wire until the tang that holds the terminal in the cavity is released. Take your time, a few tries may be required before you develop a feel for releasing the terminal from the connector. 3. Remove screws that mount turn signals lamps to existing directional bar.
