Lift the bracket enough to expose the 3 zip ties that hold the wiring harness to the bracket (Fig. B). Cut these 3 zip ties. 4 Pull upwards on the retaining plate (which holds the relays) enough to clear the battery (Fig. C). Fig.C Cut these 3 zip ties 4 9 Fig.D Adjusting Your Power Commander Your Power Commander has been programmed with a base map for your application. You can adjust the base map or install an alternate map using your Computer. Please refer to the supplied CD-Rom for more information. You can also adjust your Power Commander using the face plate buttons as described below. 1. With the ignition off, hold down all three buttons on the Power Commander III unit. 2. While still holding down the buttons, turn the ignition on. 3. Release buttons. 4. Select the range you wish to adjust: Low, Med, High, by pushing the corresponding button once. 5. At this point holding that button down will move the lights down ( leaning out the mixture). 6. Pushing the button repeatedly will move the light up (richening the mixture). 7. When the two center light are lit up this is the “0″ setting. After making your adjustments wait 20 seconds before starting the bike or turning it off. This allows the settings to be saved to memory. To verify that it is safe to start the bike, move the throttle and watch to see if the lights move up and down the scale. If they do, you may start or turn off the bike. Tabs 5 Rotate this plate forward to locate the relay retaining tabs (Fig. D). Bend these tabs so they are flush with the plate. This allows the relays to sit lower in the slots

REMOVAL 1. Refer to the owner’s manual and follow the instructions to disarm the security system. To prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause death or serious injury, disconnect negative (-) battery cable before proceeding. (00048a) To prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause death or serious injury, remove main fuse before proceeding. (00251b) 2. For All Models except 2002-2003 Touring and 2003- Later Softail: Refer to the owner’s manual and follow the instructions to disconnect the battery, negative (-) cable first or remove the main fuse. For 2002-2003 Touring and 2003-Later Softail Models: Remove seat following the instructions in the service manual and disconnect the battery, negative (-) cable first. Save seat hardware for installation. INSTALLATION 2002-2006 VRSCA, VRSCB, VRSCD Models 1. Open the seat. 2. See Figure 1. Remove the splash guard (mud flap) nuts. 3. See Figure 2. Lower the mud flap from the installed position and allow it to rest on the rear tire 3. Slide the siren into place on the left side of the electrical caddy so the sounder disc (6) faces out. 4. Refer to the owner’s manual and follow the instructions to install the main fuse. 5. Align the barbed studs on the side cover with the grommets in the frame and push side cover firmly into place. 6. Install the left side saddlebag per the instructions in the owner’s manual. 2003 and later Softail Models EXCEPT FXCW/C 1. Remove the right side saddlebag (if equipped) per the instructions in the owner’s manual. NOTE The siren connector is installed on an electrical panel under the rear fender on all Softail models. The rear of the motorcycle may have to be raised slightly to allow removal of the splash guard. 2. Remove the two bolts at the bottom of the splash guard. Bend the upper right corner of the splash guard toward the rear tire and lift upward to unhook the splash guard from the tab on the rear fork. Remove the siren connector [142B] (2) from the receptacle in the siren mounting area (1) of the electrical panel. 4. See Figure 17. Insert security siren (1) connector [142B] into the siren box receptacle until the connector latches securely. 5. Orient the siren (1) as shown, with the harness connector (2) toward the bottom and the sounder disc (5) facing out. Carefully snap the siren into the electrical panel. 6. Insert the siren harness lead (4) into the harness clip (3) to keep the harness clear of other components. 7. If necessary, secure the connector wiring to the electrical panel wiring with a cable strap (not provided). 8. Hook the slot at the top of the splash guard over the tab on the rear fork and install the guard with the two screws removed earlier. Tighten securely. 9. Install the right side saddlebag (if equipped) per the instructions in the owner’s manual. 10. Refer to the owner’s manual and follow the instructions given to connect the battery cables or install the main fuse

When replacing the ECM (SAE term: PCM) or the Transponder ECU a “handshake” procedure must be performed. This ECU ID communication is necessary to enable the Transponder ECU and the ECM to recognize each other before the vehicle will start. Complete ECU communication using the following steps: 1. Insert a Master key into the ignition cylinder. 2. Turn the ignition ON (engine OFF). 3. Short Tc and CG terminals of DLC3 using the Diagnostic Check Wire (SST 09843-18020 or equivalent) and leave for 30 minutes. 4. After 30 minutes, turn the ignition OFF and remove check wire from DLC3. 5. Register any additional keys as necessary. 6. Start the vehicle to confirm successful ECU communication. Key Programming: To program or delete a key, a registered Master key is necessary unless the Transponder ECU has been reset or replaced. The Transponder ECU system incorporates a black “Master” key and a gray “Sub” key. The process during registration of these two keys is identical. The key itself now determines if it functions as Master or Sub, not the registration procedure. The maximum number of allowable Master and Sub keys vary by model. Refer to the chart below.

If your inspection identifies a crack or cracks in or on either the Left or Right lower crossmember frame welds, perform the following procedure: Place the grinding template (S0512) on the crossmember. Using a suitable felt marker, draw a line on the weld with the crack, drawing the line along the entire edge of the the template (this line will be 89 mm long). If the crack falls within the length of this line (89 mm) , prepare the motorcycle for welding per the Dealer Procedures and advise the welder to use the Cracked Weld Repair Manual (S0515). After the bike has returned from the welder, prepare the frame and re-assemble the motorcycle per the Dealer Procedures . Then, proceed

INSTALLATION Perform this installation when the engine is cool. Working on or near the exhaust system when the engine is hot could result in severe burns. (00311a) 1. Block the motorcycle underneath the frame so the weight of the vehicle is off of the rear wheel, but do not raise the rear wheel off the ground. 2. Some models require loosening or removal of the muffler or mufflers in order to remove the rear axle. See the EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL section of the Service Manual. Remove the saddlebags if desired for extra working clearance. See SADDLEBAG REMOVAL in the Service Manual. 3. See Figure 1. Remove the original axle adjustment bolts (1) and jam nuts (2) from both sides of the motorcycle and discard. NOTE On a bike that has been previously serviced, ensure that the axle has not been removed and re-installed from the left side (with the castle nut to the right of the wheel). If it has, the axle MUST be inserted from the right side of the motorcycle. 4. Remove the retaining pin (7), castle nut (5) and washer (4) from the left side of the axle (6). The collars can be discarded. The wheel bearing spacers may also fall loose or be dislodged. Be sure to return these to their original position on the vehicle (short spacer on the right side, long spacer on the left). 6. Inspect axle components for damage or excessive wear, and replace as required

INSTALLATION Shifter Side, Left Block or jack vehicle under frame in a way that the vehicle will not fall over. Failure to properly block and/or raise the vehicle could result in death or serious injury. (00462c) 1. Block the motorcycle under the frame so that it is upright and level, with the weight off of the jiffy stand. 2. Remove footpeg. 3. Remove jiffy stand, shifter linkage and bracket per applicable Service Manual instructions, retaining hardware. 4. See Figure 5. Obtain the new left side shifter bracket (2), and three TORX® screws (3) from the kit. 5. Place washers previously removed on the screws. Apply LOCTITE® 243 (Blue) to the threads, and install the new bracket assembly to the motorcycle frame. Tighten the screws to 40 ft-lbs (54.2 Nm) . 6. See Figure 5. Install footpeg with spring washer (8), clevis pin (10) and retaining ring (9). If leg stop is incorrectly installed, excessive wear can allow vehicle to fall when rested on jiffy stand, which could result in death or serious injury. (00479b) 7. Install jiffy stand and attach the spring. When properly installed, the hook on the spring side connected to the bracket will face upward. 8. Verify that rubber bumper is in place on prong of jiffy stand. Without the bumper, the stand will make hard contact with the primary drive cover when retracted, which may result in damage to the cover. 9. Extend and retract the jiffy stand leg several times to verify proper operation. The stand should swing freely to the fully extended and fully retracted positions. 10. Refer to applicable Service Manual and re-attach the shifter linkage

Removing The Stock Components Although the PM Drive Side Brake System can be installed with the swing arm bolted to the frame, we recommend removing it for better access as well as repainting. Begin by removing rear wheel,stock brake components and belt guard from swing arm. Photo #1 Using supplied 3/4 x 2″bolt,position Drive Side BrakeAssembly on swing arm. Slide assembly to center position of tab and axle spans. Making sure brake mounting tabs are flush with swing arm,snug 3/4 x 2″ bolt to hold assembly and mark swing arm area to be ground Photo #2 . Remove entire assembly from swing arm and thoroughly grind paint away from marked areas Photo #3 . Photo #4 Re-mount assembly to swing arm and slide to rear-most position of both axle and brake mounting tabs. Confirm that brake tabs are flush with swing arm and parallel to each other. Snug 3/4 x 2″bolt and 5/16″socket head cap screws in tabs to hold assembly during welding process. Warning Center the motorcycle on the lift so that it will not fall while you are working on it. Avoid excessive welding near brake as- sembly as heat can mar finish. Loosen socket head cap screws and 3/4″bolt,Slide entire assembly to forward most position and re tighten bolts Photo #6 (movement should require minimal effort if tabs are aligned properly) and tack front of tabs to swing arm. Remove brake assembly from swing arm. Weld tabs to swing arm.Verify alignment of tabs, as they must remain parallel to each other. Repaint swing arm and re-install on bike to factory torque specs. Installing Brake Assembly Remove primary bracket from tower assembly (this allows bracket to be installed without having to line up caliper on disc) by removing the three 5/16″socket head cap screws (commonly called allen bolts). Photo #7 Mount rear tire and bolt pulley to rear wheel. Place disassembled bracket against pulley using smaller of two supplied spacers between bracket and pulley. Slide wheel/brake assembly into swing arm. Place large spacer on right side and slide axle in. Do not tighten axle at this point . Photo #8 Slide caliper/tower assembly over disc and install 5/16″x 1″socket head cap screw in center hole to position assembly Photo #9 . Snug, but do not tighten bolt at this point.

Softail EZ-Steer Instruction Supplement Installation of the Champion EZ-Steer system is similar to the installation of the OEM triple clamps of your Harley Davidson Softail Motorcycle. We strongly recommend that you use your OEM service manual and follow the prescribed disassembly, installation and torque specifications (except where noted below) for the upper and lower clamp assembly. Installation Notes • Note the torque specifications for the items listed below. Item # Description (Qty) Torque Spec. (Lb.Ft.) N/A OEM Steering Stem Bolt (1) 35 7 7/16-20 x 1.5 Socket Head Cap Screw (2) 45 • The supplied fork tube extensions (Item #2) must be used with the Champion EZ-Steer system. • Do not torque the steering stem bolt until fork tubes have been installed to the assembly. • Remove O-rings from OEM fork tube ends and install to Champion fork tube extensions (Item #2) prior to installation onto fork tubes. • The supplied fork tube covers (Item #9) must be installed to lower triple clamp prior to installation of fork tubes. WARNING: If the Champion EZ-Steer system is installed on a motorcycle / sidecar combination and the sidecar is removed, the motorcycle is not safe to ride, and OEM triple clamps should be replaced.
