These actions may void your warranty, and if done incorrectly may cause damage to your motorcycle. Only you know your capabilities, if you do not feel capable of making modification please have a qualified motorcycle technician install it. INSTALLATION 1. Remove existing rear wheel assembly. Save axle, axle nut, brake disc and wheel spacers for kit installation. Refer to REAR WHEEL in Service Manual. NOTES Prior to removing or installing the wheel, the rear brake caliper must be removed. The cotter pin or spring clip for the axle nut must be replaced. They are available for purchase from your dealer. See your dealer for the correct part number for your model motorcycle. Do not re-use brake disc screws. Re-using disc screws can result in torque loss and damage to rotor and/or brake assembly. (00319b) Do not re-use sprocket mounting screws. Re-using sprocket mounting screws can result in torque loss and damage to the sprocket and/or belt assembly. (00480b) 2. See Figure 1. Install valve stem assembly (E) on wheel. Refer to TIRES in Service Manual. 3. Assemble wheel installation kit components, stock brake disc and sprocket to wheel using the appropriate service parts table. Refer to REAR WHEEL in Service Manual. The valve stem side of the wheel is the primary bearing side. NOTES Install the primary bearing first using appropriate Service Manual and WHEEL BEARING REMOVER/INSTALLER. The valve stem side of the wheel is the primary bearing side. 4. Install rear wheel (1), stock axle, and stock spacers to motorcycle. Refer to REAR WHEEL in Service Manual. MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING Chrome parts must be maintained regularly to ensure that they keep their original shine and luster. 1. Clean heavily-soiled wheel surfaces using Harley-Davidson Wheel and Tire Cleaner, applied with Harley Wheel and Spoke Brush. 2. Thoroughly clean chrome with a good quality chrome cleaner, such as Harley Bright Chrome Cleaner. 3. After cleaning and polishing, seal the finish with a good quality sealer, such as Harley Glaze Polish and Sealant

Tools and Supplies Required Loctite® 271 Threadlocker and Sealant – Red (H-D Part Number 99671-97) is required for the proper installation of this kit. Fresh, uncontaminated DOT 4 brake fluid from a sealed container will also be needed. Replace brake line gaskets. Re-using original gaskets can cause brake failure and loss of vehicle control, which could result in death or serious injury. INSTALLATION Preparation To prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause death or serious injury, disconnect battery cables (negative (-) cable first) before proceeding. (00307a) Disconnect negative (-) battery cable first. If positive (+) cable should contact ground with negative (-) cable connected, the resulting sparks can cause a battery explosion, which could result in death or serious injury. (00049a) 1. Refer to the service manual and follow the instructions given to remove the seat and disconnect the battery cables, negative cable first. Retain all seat mounting hardware. Direct contact of D.O.T. 4 brake fluid with eyes can cause irritation. Avoid eye contact. In case of eye contact flush with large amounts of water and get medical attention. Swallowing large amounts of D.O.T. 4 brake fluid can cause digestive discomfort. If swallowed, obtain medical attention. Use in well ventilated area. KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN. Configure the Trike or sidecar TSSM, HFSM or BCM to “Side Car Enabled” using Digital Technician. 4. Install the Hands Free Security Module (HFSM) Antenna and antenna mount (6) if necessary, using the service manual instructions. 1. Using a 13MM socket, remove the bolt from just forward the front tire holding the bumper support. Do this to both sides of the vehicle. If the vehicle has tow hooks, underneath the frame end are three metric bolts to remove using a 15MM socket. Pull tow hooks forward and set aside. Do this to both sides of the vehicle. The tow hooks will Using an 18MM socket, remove two bolts from the end of the frame. Disconnect the fog lights. Do this to both sides of the vehicle. Pull the bumper forward to remove. Set bolts and the bumper aside to be reinstalled later

Harley-Davidson Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection System, (ESPFI) This completely new engine management system was released starting with select 2001 model year Softail motorcycles. This system is a speed/density, open loop, sequential port fuel injection design that also controls spark timing and spark intensity. Speed/Density System – When the ECM monitors manifold air pressure, air temperature, throttle position and engine rpm to manage fuel delivery. Open Loop Control – When the ECM monitors sensors positioned on the intake side of the engine and does not monitor the end result of internal combustion at the exhaust. Sequential Port Fuel Injection – When the injector nozzle is positioned in the manifold near the intake valve and is precisely timed to deliver fuel to each cylinder. This ESPFI system is the exclusive design used on 2001 and Later EFI-equipped Softail models, 2002 and Later EFI-equipped Touring models, 2004 and Later Dyna models, and 2004 and later V-Rod models. Current ESPFI Components The following is a list of the major components of Harley-Davidson’s current ESPFI system. It is important to have an understanding of what these components do before learning how the ESPFI system functions. Refer to the appropriate Harley-Davidson Service Manual for the vehicle you are working on for additional information on component design and function and for the physical location and testing procedures for each individual component. ECM – Electronic Control Module – this is the brain of the system that collects input signals from multiple sensors, makes decisions and sends output signals to deliver fuel and spark to the engine. CKP – Crank Position Sensor – this sensor provides input signals to the ECM that indicate engine rpm, (how fast the engine is running in R evolutions P er M inute). The ECM also uses these inputs to determine what stroke the engine is in so it can deliver the fuel and spark at the desired time.
