1 Remove the stock seat. 2 Unplug the stock wiring harness from the ECM (Fig. A) . 3 Remove the ECM from the tray and remove the tray from the fender. You can reach underneath the fender to gain access to the release tabs for the tray. 4 Install the Dynojet tray into the rear fender . Make sure that all 3 location tabs are underneath the fender. 5 Lay the PCIII in the tray (Fig. B). 6 Install the stock ECM on top of the PCIII making sure that it is secured by the tray locking tabs. 7 Plug the GREYconnector from the PCIII into the ECM. 8 Route the PCIII harness on top of the GREY connector (Fig. C) and route towards the front of the bike. Due to the lack of room on this bike this step needs to be exact or the install will not fit properly . Make sure that the harness coming from the GREYconnector is flush against the battery box. To prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause death or serious injury, remove maxi-fuse before proceeding. (00251a) 2. Original Equipment Voltage Regulator  NOTE For 2007 models: The ground wire on the voltage regulator must be re-attached at the original location when re-installing the voltage regulator to ensure adequate ground. 4. For ALL models: See Figure 1. Remove and discard the voltage regulator caddy cover (6) from the regulator bracket (3) and caddy (5). For 2007 models: In addition, remove the lower voltage regulator cover (10). 5. Remove and retain the hex socket head screw (4) at the top left of the bracket For 2007 models: In addition, disconnect the ground wire. Free the cable straps (9) from the regulator bracket, beneath the regulator. 6. Remove the two hex socket head screws with washers (2) retaining the voltage regulator to the bracket. Remove and save the regulator, but discard the screws. 7. Remove and retain the screw (4) at the top right of the regulator bracket. Remove the bracket from the engine. 8. For 2008 and later models: Free the strap (9) that ties the jiffy stand wiring to the voltage regulator bracket. Unfasten the three-way jiffy stand sensor connector and the two-way crank position sensor connector [79] (12) from the T-studs on the back of the regulator bracket (3). Discard the bracket. Disconnect both plugs from the back of the voltage regulator (1). For 2007 models: Unfasten the four-way (7) and two-way (8) voltage regulator connectors from the T-studs on the back of the regulator bracket (3), and discard the bracket. Disconnect the voltage regulator (1) at both connectors. 9. For 2008 and later models: Unclip the two-way O 2 (oxygen) sensor electrical connector [138] (11) from the voltage regulator caddy (5). For 2007 models: Unfasten the two-way crank position sensor connector [79] (12) from the voltage regulator caddy (5). Remove the caddy from the vehicle frame. a. For 2007 models: Unclamp the bottom of the caddy from the engine mount spacers. b. For ALL models: Unhook the top clips from around the tabs on the front of the engine casting. Remove the original equipment (O.E.) caddy from the vehicle frame, and discard it.

1. See Figure 1. Beginning at the front of the tank, position the elastic strap over front edge of fuel tank against frame backbone making sure elastic strap does not pinch off fuel tank vent tube located underneath left side of tank. When properly positioned, strap will run down front of tank and along bottom toward rear of tank. Adjust, if necessary. Pull bra to the rear of tank and fit bra snugly around rear of tank. When performing the following step, route the elastic strap and steel “S’ hook between the main wiring harness and the frame backbone. If the strap is not routed between the main harness and frame backbone, the “S” hook could eventually cut into the main harness wiring causing electrical system failure which could result in death or serious injury. 2. Position the rear elastic strap around the frame backbone making sure the strap and “S” hook, when fastened, pass between the main wiring harness and frame backbone. 3. Smooth out any wrinkles in bra.

STOCK EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL 1. Loosen the heat shield clamps on both the front and rear exhaust pipes. This allows easier access to the head pipe mounting nuts. 2. Remove the two head pipe mounting nuts from each flange, located at the cylinder head. 3. Remove the two bolts from each muffler body which attach the muffler bodies to the mounting bar. 4. Tools required for installation: 3/16″ & 5/16″ Allen wrenches 3/16″ & 5/16″ Allen & 1/2″ sockets 3/8″ Ratchet & Extensions T30 Torx driver 1/2″ Wrench 5/16″ nutdriver/flat blade screwdriver Ft/lb. & In/lb. Torque wrenches Snapring pliers pipe to the belt drive cover bracket and carefully remove both exhaust pipes from the motorcycle. 5. Remove the drive belt cover and take the bracket off the rear cover bolt, it will not be re-used. 6. Loosen the brake rod at the rear eyelet using a T30 Torx driver. 7. Remove the exhaust mounting bar, saving the three mount bolts and washers for re-use. 8. Using snapring pliers, carefully remove the flanges and circlips from the stock exhaust system. Save for re-use. NOTE: If circlips look bent or twisted replace them with new circlips. VANCE & HINES EXHAUST SYSTEM INSTALLATION 1. Check condition of stock exhaust gaskets. Replace if damaged or worn. Vance & Hines recommends you replace your gaskets with Screamin’ Eagle gaskets part number 17048-98. 2. Install and tighten supplied mounting bracket (stamped 356-P) using stock bolts and washers (Figure 1). Torque to 30-33 Ft/Lbs. NOTE: Support the rear of the bracket during tightening to insure it is aligned with the bottom edge of the frame. 3. Re-install drive belt cover. Torque to 1 x 3/8″ bolt 30-33 Ft/Lbs. 2 x 1/4″ bolts 80-120 In/Lbs. 4. Re-install brake rod eyelet using blue thread locking compound (Loctite® 243). There is a 1/2″ clearance hole in the bracket to allow access for tightening brake rod eyelet. Torque to 120/180 In/Lbs. (Figure 1). 5. Remove header pipes and heat shields from protective packaging. Place each heat shield on a non-abrasive surface such as a blanket or carpet. Using a felt tip pen, mark outside edge of each heat shield to show location of mounting clips where hose clamps will loop through (Figure 2). 6. Install circlips and flanges from the stock system onto both new head pipes.

REMOVING THE STOCK EXHAUST SYSTEM 1. Loosen the heat shield clamps on both front and rear exhaust pipes. 2. Remove the two mounting nuts from each head pipe, located at the cylinder head. 3. Remove the nut that mounts the front muffler to the engine, located below the rear brake master cylinder. 4. Remove the bolt that mounts the rear muffler to the mounting bar. 5. Remove the entire exhaust system and set it aside. 6. Carefully remove the flanges and circlips from the stock exhaust system using snapring pliers. Note: If circlips look bent or twisted replace them with new circlips . INSTALLING YOUR NEW VANCE & HINES EXHAUST SYSTEM 1. Vance and Hines recommends you replace your exhaust gaskets with Sceamin’ Eagle gaskets part number 17048-98. 2. Install the circlips and flanges from the stock system on to both of the new head pipes. 3. Unscrew all of the hose clamps (supplied) until they are completely loose. Mark the top edge of both heat shields with the location of the mounting clips that are welded to the backside. Position the front heat shield over the head pipe and feed the tail end of the hose clamps into the clips. Be sure that each hose clamp is engaged with both clips. Repeat this step with the rear heat shield. Note: The screw end of the hose clamp should be accessible, but not visible when pipe is mounted on the bike. 4. Install the front head pipe using the stock nuts, do not tighten at this time. 5. Install the rear head pipe using the stock nuts, do not tighten at this time. 6. Install one muffler clamp (supplied) over the inlet (notched end) of each muffler. 7. Identify the front and rear muffler mounting brackets. The front bracket is stamped with the number 305 and the rear muffler bracket is stamped 213 . 8. Install the front muffler mounting bracket to the stud on the engine (where the stock muffler mounted) and fasten using the stock nut (leave loose at this time). The bracket will bend inward towards the center of the motorcycle when installed correctly. Note: You may need to move the wires and hoses on the lower frame rail to decrease the possibility of them chaffing on the bracket bolts. 9. Slip one of the mufflers onto the front head pipe. Slide one dog bone shaped nut plate (supplied) under the bracket that is welded to the backside of the muffler. Attach the muffler to the mounting bracket using the 5/16″ flange head bolts (supplied) leave them loose at this time. 10. Attach the rear mounting bracket to the rear muffler. Slide one dog bone shaped nut plate (supplied) under the bracket that is welded to the backside of the muffler. Attach the bracket to the muffler using two of the 5/16″ flange head bolts (supplied), leave them loose at this time. Note: The single hole in the bracket will point downward and slightly forward when installed correctly

1. Block motorcycle underneath frame so front wheel is raised off the ground. 2. See Figure 1. Remove the upper (1) and lower (2) brake caliper mounting bolts and brake caliper(s) (3). Support caliper(s) using a rubber bungee cord. Be careful not to scratch fender paint. NOTES Do not operate front brake lever with the front wheel removed or the caliper piston may be forced out of piston bores. Reseating the piston requires disassembly of the caliper. Prior to removal, make note of existing left and right spacer location. The new spacers will be installed in the locations. 3. See Figure 3. On left side of wheel, remove axle nut (D), lockwasher (E) and washer (F). Perform the following: 4. Sportster and Dyna (except FXDWG) See Figure 2. Loosen the pinch bolt nut (1) and pull the the axle (2) free. Remove wheel and spacers. Leave bearing(s) in place. Discard spacers. 3 1 2 is04469 1. Brake caliper mounting bolt, long (top) 2. Apply a light coat of ANTI-SEIZE LUBRICANT (Harley- Davidson Part Number 98960-97) to the axle.
7. Place wheel between sliders and install axle. Verify that axle spacers on right and left side are properly installed. 8. See Figure 3. Install the washer (F), lockwasher (E) and nut (D) onto threaded end of axle (A). 9. In order to properly align the front fork, perform the fol- lowing: a. On the right side of the wheel, insert a 7/16 inch drill bit through the hole in the axle. While holding axle stationary, tighten axle nut to 50-55 ft-lbs (61.0-74.6 Nm) . b. Pull fork leg so that it just contacts drill bit. Tighten according to the following: c. Refer to Figure 2. Tighten the Axle Pinch Bolt Nut to 25-30 ft-lbs (33.9-40.7 Nm) . d. Remove drill bit from axle hole. 10. Follow instructions in Service Manual and install brake caliper to the sliders noting the following: •Loosely install long bolt to the top hole on fork leg. Install the short mounting bolt to the bottom hole and tighten to 28-38 ft-lb (38.0-51.5 Nm) . •Final tighten top bolt to 28-38 ft-lbs (38.0-51.5 Nm) . 11. Repeat Step 10 to install brake caliper on opposite side of wheel. After servicing brakes and before moving motorcycle, pump brakes to build brake system pressure. Insufficient pressure can adversely affect brake performance, which could result in death or serious injury. (00279a) 12. Pump brake lever to move pistons out until they contact both brake pads. Verify piston location against pads

Make sure they are situated away from the rear exhaust pipe. Make sure to clean both surfaces with the alcohol swab before attaching. Situate the PCIII so the USB and expansion ports point to the rear of the bike. 2006 models: communication switch 77173-06 2007 models: communication switch 77173-07 2008 models: communication switch 77173-08 FLHT models will require prior installation of: •Advanced Audio AM/ FM/ CD Radio Kit (76412-06) •AM/ FM Antenna Kit (76325-06 or 76317-06) Unless one has already been fitted as part of another Advanced Audio kit installation: 2006-2007 FLHX models will require the separate purchase of: •fuel tank console (61270-98A), •tank console gasket (71294-89), •a button-head screw (3652), •nut (7964) •clip (10103 and 10120). •tank pod mounting screws (2462) quantity 3 •FLHT trim piece (52447-96) and cb pod trim badge 2008 FLHX models: •fuel tank console (61270-08) •clips (10103 and 10120) NOTE The console screws, fuel door, gasket, mounting bracket will all need to be reused. FLTR models will require the separate purchase of: •a Console Pod Assembly (77136-03), and •three pan-head screws (2462). 1 ) REMOVE THE SCREWS ON THE BACK SIDE OF THE TAIL LIGHT THAT HOLD THE CHROME TRIM TO THE TAIL LIGHT. 2 ) POSITION YOUR CUTTING WHEEL AS SHOWN IN THE PICTURE TO THE LEFT WHERE THE CLEAR PART OF THE LENS TURNS 90 DEGREES. THE CUTTING WHEEL SHALL REMAIN IN THE PLANE OF THE LENS. 3 ) PROCEED TO CUT INTO THE CLEAR LENS APPROXIMATELY HALF OF THE THICKNESS, ALL THE WAY AROUND THE PERIMETER OF THE LENS – BE SURE NOT TO CUT ALL THE WAY THROUGH BECAUSE IT WILL NOT GLUE BACK TOGETHER PROPERLY. SEE “TIPS FOR CUTTING YOUR LENS” BEFORE BEGINNING. TIPS FOR CUTTING YOUR LENS A) KEEP THE CUTTING WHEEL MOVING AND APPLY LIGHT PRESSURE. SITTING IN ONE SPOT WILL JUST MELT THE PLASTIC. WHEN YOU MAKE YOUR WAY AROUND THE ENTIRE PERIMETER, CLEAN ALL THE BURRED PLASTIC FROM AROUND THE EDGES AND FROM INSIDE THE GROOVE YOU’VE MADE. OPENING THE LENS 4 ) PLACE THE TIP OF A FLAT HEAD SCREWDRIVER IN THE GROOVE YOU HAVE CREATED. 5 ) GENTLY TWIST THE SCREWDRIVER TO CRACK THE GLUE ALONG THE GROOVE. All Rights Reserved. 6 ) REMOVE THE SCREWS HOLDING THE STOCK LED BOARDS TO THE HOUSING (YOU WILL BE REUSING SOME OF THE SCREWS SO PUT THEM TO THE SIDE). 7 ) REMOVE THE STOCK LED ASSEMBLY FROM THE LENS HOUSING. YOU WILL NO LONGER NEED THE STOCK LED BOARD, DISPOSE OF IT AS YOU WISH. 8 ) GENTLY PRY OFF THE PLASTIC COVER TO EXPOSE THE DRIVER BOARD UNDERNEATH. 9 ) REMOVE THE SCREWS SUPPORTING THE DRIVER BOARD AND SNIP OFF THE THREE WIRES (BLUE, BLACK, YELLOW) AS SHOWN AS CLOSE TO THE CIRCUIT BOARD AS POSSIBLE! YOU WILL NEED TO CONNECT TO THESE WIRES LATER. 10 ) POP OUT THE LITTLE BLACK PLUG AS SHOWN IN THE PICTURE. YOU CAN POKE IT OUT FROM THE INSIDE OF THE HOUSING. WIRING UP YOUR CUSTOM LED BOARD PLACE YOUR CUSTOM LED INTEGRATED TAIL BOARD NEXT TO THE HOUSING AND MATCH THE WIRE COLORS AS FOLLOWS: TRY TO HANDLE THE CIRCUIT BOARD AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE AS FINGERPRINTS AND DIRT WILL HINDER THE PERFORMANCE. • BLACK ON HARNESS TO 6″ BLACK ON CUSTOM LED BOARD • BLUE ON HARNESS TO 6″ BLUE ON CUSTOM LED BOARD • YELLOW ON HARNESS TO 6″ YELLOW ON CUSTOM LED BOARD USE THE THREE (3 OF 5) SUPPLIED ORANGE SPLICE CONNECTORS. PUSH THE TWO WIRES TO BE SPLICED TOGETHER INTO THE OPEN END. BE SURE TO PUSH THE WIRES ALL THE WAY IN (UNTIL YOU CAN SEE THEY HAVE REACHED THE OTHER SIDE). NOTE: YOU WILL NEED TO SEPARATE THE THREE WIRES FIRST BY CUTTING THE PLASTIC COLLAR THAT BINDS THEM. FOR THE WIRES TO FIT PROPERLY INTO THE CONNECTORS, YOU MUST ALSO REMOVE THE REMNANTS OF THE COLLAR FROM THE WIRES. NOTE: THE SPLICE IS MORE RELIABLE IF THE WIRE IS NOT STRIPPED. BE SURE TO SNIP OFF THE BARE ENDS OF THE WIRES ON THE CUSTOM LED TAIL TO ENSURE THAT THERE IS INSULATION WHERE THE SPLICE WILL OCCUR. THE SUPPLIED SPLICE CONNECTORS AUTOMATICALLY DISPLACE THE INSULATION AS NECESSARY. ONCE YOU DOUBLE CHECK YOUR COLOR MATCHING AND ARE ABSOLUTELY SURE THAT THE WIRES ARE FULLY INSERTED INTO THE SPLICE CONNECTORS DO THE FOLLOWING: 11 ) SQUEEZE THE SPLICE CONNECTORS FIRMLY WITH PLIERS. VISUALLY INSPECT YOUR CONNECTIONS TO SEE THAT THEY HAVE BEEN SPLICED PROPERLY INSIDE. 12 ) RUN THE GREEN AND BROWN WIRES THROUGH THE HOLE YOU OPENED UP IN STEP 9
