The clutch lever is pulled to the handlebar (the clutch switch is closed) and the side- stand is up (the sidestand switch is closed). The starting circuit cut-off relay prevents the starter motor from operating when neither of these conditions has been met. In this instance, the starting circuit cut-off relay is open so current cannot reach the starter motor. When at least one of the above conditions has been met the starting circuit cut-off relay is closed and the engine can be started by pressing the starter switch. WHEN THE TRANSMISSION IS IN NEUTRAL WHEN THE SIDESTAND IS UP AND THE CLUTCH LEVER IS PULLED TO THE HANDLEBAR 4. Starting circuit cut-off relay Disconnect the starting circuit cut-off relay from the wire harness. Always keep the battery charged. Storing a discharged battery can cause permanent battery damage. ● To charge a sealed-type (MF) battery, a special (constant- voltage) battery charger is required. Using a conventional battery charger will damage the battery. If you do not have access to a sealed-type (MF) battery charger, have a Yamaha dealer charge your battery. EAU04076* Replacing the fuses The fuse box, which contains the fuses for the individual circuits, is located under panel D. The fuel injection system fuse box is located under panel D. The main fuse box is also located under panel D, beside the battery. (See page 6-7 for panel removal and installation procedures.) If a fuse is blown, replace it as follows. 1. Step 1) Wire Connection: Using 18-gauge automotive wire, connect the audio alert relay as shown in the Wiring Diagram – Figure 1. • Connect the supplied wire from #3 terminal on the audio alert relay to the oil pressure switch post. Note: The supplied wire is not reversible. The eyelet end must hook to the oil pressure switch. • Connect a wire from #2 terminal on the audio alert relay to the ignition switch post that receives power when the ignition switch is first turned on. • Connect a wire from #1 terminal on relay to the positive side of existing horn, or alternate sound device. • Note: The audio alert relay uses the oil pressure switch as its ground. On most motorcycles, this audio alert relay can be installed easily under the dash. Do not disconnect any existing wire. Step 2) Testing : Turn ignition switch on and ensure oil pressure light is on. Leave ignition switch on. Wait 30 sec (T1) and ensure the audio alarm sounds for ½ second (T2). If the electrical test is successful, proceed to Step 3. If not, you may have to use a pezio alert in place of the horn. (Which is available at most Radio Shack stores.) If audio alert still doesn’t work, consult the wiring diagram and recheck all wiring connections. Verify timer set points have not been altered. If problems persist, contact us at (518) 884-9591. Step 3) Mount relay switch: Use standard zip ties (not provided) or similar means to mount the relay to dash mount post or dash base. 1. Remove the left and right plastic side covers and the seat (two allen bolts located below the sides of the seat). Unplug and remove the stock horn (located over the oil cooler). Connect the female ends of the jacketed two wire cable supplied to the original horn wires. Route the other end of the cable up over the engine and back to where the relay will mount as shown in photo (1). 2. Using the relay supplied with this kit and the wiring diagram provided with the horn set, identify the terminals of the relay (there are very small numbers next to each of the terminal). Connect the two (2) wires from the cable to terminals #85 & 86 on the relay. Locate the fuse holder wire assembly supplied and connect the blade terminal to the relay terminal #87 or #30. Connect the other end of the fuse wire to the battery positive terminal (+). 3. Working under the left side of the motorcycle, refer to photo (2) and install the black bracket supplied as shown onto the engine mount. Locate the four thin flat brackets and two (2) 6mm nuts supplied with the horn set and two lock washers supplied with the kit. Bolt two (2) of the brackets to each of the horns using a lock washer and 6mm nut on each and make them snug. Using the remaining 6 x 12mm bolt, nut and lock washer install the horns onto the black bracket and align as shown in photo (3). Adjust the horn location so that they are free to vibrate and do not come in contact with other parts of the motorcycle then tighten all three 6mmm bolts securely. 4. Using the two remaining wire assembles supplied, connect the larger terminals with double wires to one of the horns and the terminals with the single wire to the other horn. Route these wires up thru the frame to the relay. Connect the wire with the female blade connector to the relay terminal #30 or #87. Connect the ring terminal to the battery negative (-) terminal
or any 6m bolt on the frame. Turn on the ignition and test the horns. Secure the relay to the frame or other wiring and all loose wires using the cable ties supplied. Replace the seat and side covers

Attach the “Y” bracket to the Power Pod by using the two Power Pod socket head screws that come in your parts kit. (This bracket may already be attached from the factory. ) 2) Remove the two screws on the Right Hand switch housing on your Harley Davidson motorcycle and reinstall them through the two “Y” bracket open holes and back into the switch housing holes. Tighten snugly. In this mounting position, the heads of the two socket head screws holding the “Y” bracket to the Power Pod should be touching the handlebar; this is necessary as it grounds the unit for proper operation. If the unit is not grounded properly, it will not operate. 3) Run the Power Pod’s 60″ power cord to your battery. Make sure as you hide the cord on the way to the battery, that your handlebars turn freely and that the cord does not come in contact with hot engine parts that may melt the wire over time. 4) At some point, before reaching the battery, attach (using the two butt connectors) the in-line fuse holder. TIP: Keeping the in-line fuse holder in an easy to access place (like under a side panel etc) rather than under the seat, may help you service the fuse easier in case of a blown fuse. In most cases, it’s easier to pull a side panel off than it is to remove a seat! 5) Attach the Power Pod lead wire (with in-line fuse now already attached) directly to the battery for power at anytime without using the key. The hot lead can also be run to the fuse box which will require using the ignition switch to “Accessory” or “ON” in some cases. TIP : Always use the in-line fuse for safety. 6) Insert the 20 amp fuse into the in-line fuse holder. Strap down with zip-ties any loose wires and you’re done!

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. 2. Grasp the sides of the electrical caddy (located next the ignition coil) and pull outward to remove. 3. Remove the relay and fuse panels from the electrical caddy. a. Insert a small screwdriver into the slot under each fuse and relay panel. b. Using a screwdriver, disengage the panel from the electrical caddy. 4. Disconnect the main fuse connector from the electrical caddy a. Remove the main fuse from the connector b. Insert small screwdrivers into the slots on each side of the main fuse c. Depress the tabs of the main fuse connector to disengage it from the electrical caddy

Disconnect the TSM/TSSM connector. 6. Slide the data link connector towards the front of the motorcycle to disengage it from the electrical caddy. 7. Disconnect the ignition control module connector. 8. Disconnect the ignition coil connector and spark plug cables from the coil. 9. Remove the electrical caddy fasteners (3 total). 10. Remove the wiring from the electrical caddy. 11. Remove the fasteners securing the factory ignition control module from the electrical caddy. 12. Installation of the Digital Ignition Module is the reverse of removal. 2.2 Touring Models 1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. 2. Remove the right saddlebag. 3. Gently pull the side cover from the frame downtubes (no tools required). 4. Depress the external latches and use a rocking motion to remove the electrical connector from the ignition control module. 5. Remove the two socket screws to detach the ignition control module from the electrical bracket. 6. To install the Digital Ignition Module, install and tighten the socket screws to 50-60 in-lbs . The remainder of installation is the reverse of removal. 2.3 Softail Models 1. Remove the seat. 2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. 3. Remove the two screws to free the ignition control module from the mounting bracket. 4. Depress the external latches and use a rocking motion to remove the electrical connector from the ignition control module. 5. To install the Digital Ignition Module, install and tighten the socket screws to 15-21 in-lbs . The remainder of installation is the reverse of removal
