For 1991 models, the Toyota owner’s manual offers 3 maintenance sections within the maintenance chapter following the introduction page as follows: (1) GENERAL MAINTENANCE This section describes maintenance items which are the owner’s responsibility. (2) SCHEDULE A This schedule is for those Toyota vehicles which may require more frequent maintenance, due to driving conditions, environment, etc. This was formerly known as the “Severe” schedule. (3) SCHEDULE B This schedule is Toyota’s minimum maintenance requirement. Items on this schedule must be performed to maintain Toyota’s warranty coverage. A battery in a stored vehicle is subject to conditions which can reduce its performance and life. These conditions include storage period, temperature, parasitic drain, and battery load. Because of these factors, battery inspection and maintenance are recommended in order to ensure proper operation and optimal battery life. As a matter of policy, Toyota does not provide battery warranty coverage for excessively discharged and/or failed batteries due to
lack of maintenance. It is considered the dealers responsibility to maintain the specified state of charge of the vehicle’s battery while in stock. BATTERY MAINTENANCE RECOMMENDATIONS: 1. A monthly battery inspection is recommended under normal conditions. If your dealership is located in an area subject to extreme temperatures (hot or cold), periodic maintenance may need to be performed on a more frequent basis. When maintenance requires removal of filler plugs on vehicles with “maintenance free” batteries, new labels are available via the following part numbers:

MAINTENANCE AND TUNE-UP PRO- CEDURES This section describes the servicing procedures for each item of the Periodic Maintenance requirements. AIR CLEANER I Inspect every 6 000 km (4 000 miles, 6 months) and replace every 18 000 km (11 000 miles, 18 months) . • * Remove the seat. (LF6-7) • * Lift and support the feul tank . (C-74-65) • * Remove the air cleaner box cap O. • * Remove the air cleaner element O. • * Carefully use air hose to blow the dust from the cleaner ele- ment. CAUTION Always use air pressure on the throttle body side of the air cleaner element . If air pressure is used on the other side, dirt will be forced into the pores of the air cleaner element thus restricting air flow through the air cleaner element . PERIODIC MAINTENANCE 2-5 2-6PERIODIC MAINTENANCE • * Reinstall the cleaned or new air cleaner element in the reverse order of removal . CAUTION If driving under dusty condition, clean the air cleaner element more frequently. The surest way to accelerate engine wear is to use the engine without the element or to use a ruptured element. Make sure that the air cleaner is in good condition at all times. Life of the engine depends largely on this component! NOTE: When cleaning the air cleaner element, drain water from the air cleaner by removing the drain plug . SPARK PLUG Inspect every 6 000 km (4 000 miles, 6 months) and replace every 12 000 km (7 500 miles, 12 months) . No. 1 (FRONT) SPARK PLUG REMOVAL • * Remove the radiator mounting bolt O. • * Move the radiator forward. • * Remove the spark plug cap O. NOTE: Be careful not to damage the radiator fins . A WARNING The hot radiator and the hot engine can burn you . Wait until the radiator and the engine are cool enough to touch . • * Remove the spark plug with a spark plug wrench. 1 6 I It No. 2 (REAR) SPARK PLUG REMOVAL • * Remove the seat. HEAT RANGE • * Check to see the heat range of the plug . CARBON DEPOSIT •Check to see if there are carbon deposits on the plugs . If carbon is deposited, remove it with a spark plug cleaner machine or carefully using a tool with a pointed end . SPARK PLUG GAP • * Measure the plug gap with a thickness gauge . If out of specification, adjust it to the following gap . 09900-20803 : Thickness gauge Spark plug gap OA Standard: 0.6 – 0 .7 mm (0.024 -0.028 in) ELECTRODES CONDITION •Check to see the worn or burnt condition of the electrodes . If it is extremely worn or burnt, replace the plug . And also replace the plug if it has a broken insulator, damaged thread . CAUTION Confirm the thread size and reach when replacing the plug. If the reach is too short, carbon will be deposited on the screw portion of the plug hole and engine damage may result

Bearing Lubrication . Your Swing Arm, external differential, and axle bearings are sealed and do not require greasing. However, should you experience unusual differential or axle bearing noise you should take your trike to a Champion Trike Dealer or to your motorcycle mechanic for a checkup. 3. Body Lubrication . There are no grease fittings on the trike body and no required body lubrication points. 4. Differential lubrication . Your differential is a sealed unit and comes filled with high-pressure grease. No maintenance is required. 5. Brakes . Check your brake system fluid level every 3,000 miles and top-off as necessary. Inspect rear disc brake pads every 10,000 miles and replace as necessary. Pads are Volkswagen Part # D101P. 6. Drive Train . Inspect your drive belt as recommended in your motorcycle Owner’s Manual. When properly tensioned after the trike conversion, the belt should “deflect” approximately ¾”-1″ with a new belt or 1″ to 1-1/2″ with a used belt of total vertical movement. Do not use commercial belt dressing compounds on the belt except for Harley Davidson Poly-Oil, PN 99860- 81. These compounds are designed for friction, not toothed, belts and can collect dirt and sand. 7. Suspension System. The suspension is a “Zero Flex” solid axle with high performance adjustable pre-load coilover shocks. The suspension system is designed to give you the best ride with a load of no more than 400 pounds. 8. EZ-Steer (rake kit) : If your trike is equipped with Champion’s EZ-Steer, the bearings are a wear item. You should follow your motorcycle manufacturer’s recommended front-end triple-tree maintenance requirements. Generally these call for an initial service at 1,000 miles followed by periodic maintenance at 10,000 mile intervals

Keep the air pressure in the shocks in the range of 30-70 psig: Softail (FLST) : The suspension system retains your single OEM shock and adds two coil-over “helper” mechanical shocks. The system is designed to give you the best ride with a load of no more than 500 pounds (passengers plus cargo plus trailer tongue weight). There is a pre-load adjuster ring on each new shock that is factory-set at the “lowest” setting, for the softest ride. Changing this setting will result in a stiffer ride. 8. EZ-Steer (rake kit) : If your trike is equipped with Champion’s EZ-Steer, the bearings are a wear item. Turn the ignition switch to the “OFF” position. 4. Depress and hold the Trip Meter “RESET” button while turning the ignition switch to the “ON” position. 5. The Service Maintenance Reminder Light will: a. Illuminate solidly for 3 seconds. b. Blink for 2 seconds. c. Illuminate solidly for 1 second. d. Turn off. 6. Release the Trip Meter “RESET” button. 7. Turn the ignition to the “OFF” position. 8. Turn the ignition to the “ON” position, and confirm that the Service Maintenance Reminder Light goes out
