Installation: 1. Remove the fork springs according to the OEM Owner’s Manual. 2. Check/adjust fork oil level and weight according to OEM Specifications. Caution: Most inverted forks will not require the use of any shim washers or spacers. In cases where use is necessary with the twin chamber style fork, the shims must be placed at the bottom of the spring. Most conventional forks (non-inverted) will use shim washers or spacers at the top of the fork spring. 3. Install Factory Connection fork springs and refer to OEM Owner’s Manual for proper assembly procedures. 4. Be sure to double check all fasteners. Note: Most modern day forks require special tools for disassembly and assembly of the components. Examples : Showa 47/49mm Twin Chamber, KYB 48mm Twin Chamber, WP 07 SX Models/SXS Components. Installing fork springs is an intricate process that should be performed with extreme care by a qualified suspension technician. Failure to install the springs correctly could cause damage to one or more components of the fork. This damage, although not readily apparent, could lead to unexpected failure or rider injury. Factory Connection manufactures models specific fork springs. Installation of a Factory Connection spring not designed for your motorcycle may result in unexpected failure and rider injury. Please consult your Factory Connection spring dealer or call Factory Connection directly if you are unsure about a spring/or springs. 1. CHECKING OF SWITCHES Check the switches for the continuity between the terminals to determine correct connection. Read the following for switch inspection. SWITCH CONNECTION AS SHOWN IN MANUAL The manual contains a connection chart as shown left showing the terminal connections of the switches (e.g., main switch, handlebar switch, brake switch, lighting switch, etc.) The extreme left column indicates the switch positions and the top line indicates the colors of leads connected with the terminals in the switch component. “C’&-0″ indicates the terminals between which there is a continuity of electricity; i.e., a cl.osed circuit at the respective switch positions. In this chart: “R and Br” and “L/W and L/R” are continuous with the “ON” switch position. “B and B/W” is continuous with the “OFF” switch position. “B and B/W” is continuous with the “LOCK” switch position. “B and B/W” and “R and L/R” are continuous with the “P” switch position. CHECKING SWITCH FOR TERMINAL CONNECTION Before checking the switch, refer to the connection chart as shown above and check for the correct terminal connection (closed circuit) by the color combination. 1. Locate the stock flasher unit on your motorcycle and remove it. Refer to your motorcycle’s shop manual. 2. Using either the test light or voltmeter, connect or touch one lead to the chassis or ground. Turn on the ignition switch. 3. Then touch the probe of either the test-light or the other lead of the voltmeter to one of wires or contacts where the flasher was removed from. If using the test-light, the light will light up when the supply line has been located. If using the voltmeter, the meter will indicate a voltage value, if present. Important Notice: Verify which grounding type your motorcycle is using before performing one of the following procedures. This can simply be done by seeing which terminal of the battery is connected to the motorcycle’s chassis or frame. Figure 3 • Positive Earth: Connect the black wire (-V) into the contact that indicated power was present. Plug the white wire (O/P) into the other contact, which did not have any power present. Turn off the ignition switch. Cut off the connector on the red wire w/ fuse holder (+V); strip the insulation back about ¼” (6 mm) and install the ring terminal on the wire, then ground the ring terminal to a chassis bolt or screw. If ground is not available via the chassis, then connect to an earth (ground) wire from the wiring harness. • Negative Ground: Connect red wire w/ fuse holder (+V) into the contact that indicated power was present. Plug the white wire (O/P) into the other contact, which did not have any power present. Turn off the ignition switch. Cut off the connector on the black wire (-V); strip the insulation back about ¼” (6 mm) and install the ring terminal on the wire, then ground the ring terminal to a chassis bolt or screw. AUDIO CABLE CONNECTION 1. See Figure 3. Obtain the larger clip (4) and the coiled headset audio cable (2) from the kit. Install the 3.5 mm stereo jack end of the cable into the clip. 2. Connect the 3.5 mm stereo jack from the headset audio cable to the audio output socket on the Road Tech riser radio, satellite radio or other audio device. Clean the clip mounting area with a mixture of 50 to 70% isopropyl alcohol and 30 to 50% distilled water. Allow to dry thoroughly. 4. Peel the liner from the adhesive backing of the clip. Carefully position the clip to the mounting surface, and press firmly into place. Hold the clip in position with steady pressure for 30 seconds. Be sure that steering is smooth and free without interference. Interference with steering could result in loss of vehicle control and death or serious injury. The new R 1200 RT-P features a completely new LED emergency lighting concept developed by BMW and Code 3 PSE. The new system combines all currently desired emergency lighting into optimally focused compact LED light modules. These modules accommodate an additional 45 degree front LED module that blankets the front quadrants in emergency light. Together with an integrated wiring harness and programmable flash control module, the new system can provide any current flashing sequence / switching combination through settings on the programmable flasher. Example: If the motor will be used in California, program the flasher for steady-burn left front LED light, with no change in the LED light or the wiring. If the motor is sold or operated in a different venue later, change the program flasher for 49 state operation. The rear light module combines rear and side facing LED emergency lights, together with rear-facing brake/tail LED and side turn signal LED lights. Additional rear facing LED emergency lights can be installed and powered in conjunction with the rear facing lights, or controlled by photo- eye to disable the lights during the dark to reduce glare at night / low light situations. The programmable flasher can provide 12 flash patterns, with wiring splitting the motor between left and right side for alternating flash patterns. Light sequencing begins with rear, programmable rear and front side lights, as well as front and 45 degree front lights. A rear cancel switch allows riders to disable the rear lights while retaining the side and front lights – usually used for protective service details. The programmable flasher also provides for a primary and secondary flash pattern, so during code 3 operation, the emergency lights will display the primary pattern until the siren is activated, at which time the flasher changes to the alternative pattern for 7 seconds after each siren tone change. This feature known as InterClear provides a visual and audible alert to those nearby
