We recommend looking at the oil manufacturer’s specification sheet and performing a comparison. If they won’t provide the data a very simple spectrographic analysis lab test can be performed that will provide the exact PPM (parts per million) concentration of zinc, phosphorus and other chemicals. That is the only way to get accurate information. There is no reason why a reputable oil manufacturers customer technical service department should not have that data readily available for the consumer and if they do not you should be highly suspect as to why not and go out and get the data yourself before started using their oil. Another issue with using automotive type oil in a motorcycle with a wet clutch is that many automotive oils have friction modifiers. Friction modifiers in automotive oils tend to provide increased frictional reduction and offset a portion of the fuel economy lost when the U.S. Government mandated a reformulated gasoline for emissions requirements. However these friction modifiers can be detrimental to proper wet clutch operation and can cause slippage and other potential performance issues such as “engine start failures, a rough running feel and increased fuel consumption due to higher engine stall speeds”.

Equipped with a 3-axis transmission, fuel injection and 40 degree forward slanted cylinders, this ultra-compact powerplant is one of the most highly respected supersport engines of all time. Yamaha’s engineers have conducted a thorough examination of the R1′s intake and exhaust efficiency, and for 2006 a range of detailed changes in this area have achieved a 3 Hp increase in power at 12,500 rpm without direct air induction. One of the most significant changes is the use of shorter intake valve guides for 2006. Measuring 27.5 mm, these new guides are 5 mm shorter than the 2005 model, and this 15% reduction in length increases engine efficiency by increasing intake air flow, and reducing frictional power losses. To match the new intake valve guides, the 2006 model also features smoother intake ports. Furthermore, the clutch boss has been modified to increase the oil flow to the clutch assembly. other detail changes The design of the compact cam chain tensioner has been revised, and now features a different sealing system for improved durability. 3 Engine performance calculation with WAVE A complete model of the new engine concept (fuel injection) with actual intake- and exhaust geometry allowed us to set up a reference engine-cycle-simulation model for further optimization. The most important parameter-variation during the cycle-studies to improve volumetric efficiency were: intake duct length valve timing constant or even lower exhaust backpressure Figure 2 shows the improvement in calculated engine performance due to different intake-duct length and modified valve timing. Figure 3 gives an example of accuracy of the calculation results compared with measured data of engine performance with new intake-duct length. Figure 4 illustrates the final engine performance with modified valve-timing, intake-duct length and new exhaust silencer. A comparison of measured performance data between the original and the redesigned engine gives shows the improvements in terms of maximum power and torque at low rpm.
