This kit is designed for 1986 and later FLSTC, FLST, FLSTF and FLSTN model motorcycles equipped with a windshield and/or passing lamps. If your FLST, FLSTC, FLSTF or FLSTN is equipped with a windshield but not a passing lamp assembly, you will need two washers 5/16 x 1 x 1/8 in. (HD Part Number 6645). These washers will be used as spacers for the bottom of the deflector. This kit is also designed to fit with accessory five gallon Fat Bob Gas Tanks. Installation 1. See Figures 1 and 2. On Rigid Mount Windshields, remove the bolts (1), lockwashers (2), and flat washers (3) securing one side of the windshield support bracket. Save all hardware for reinstallation. NOTE On Rigid Mount Windshields, be sure the large spacer (4) between the tip of the windshield support bracket and the fork stays in position. On Detachable Windshields, remove the bolts (1) and flat washers (2) securing one side of the windshield support bracket. Save all hardware for reinstallation. 2. Place the wind deflector in position and install the hardware removed in Step 1. Do not tighten the bolt at this time. NOTE On Rigid Mount Windshields, be sure you install the large spacer between the windshield support bracket and the fork. NOTE On 2000 and later models, be sure the wind deflector is outside of the windshield docking points. 3. Position the wind deflector parallel with the fork leg and install the other flat washers, lockwashers and bolts. Do not tighten the bolts at this time. NOTE If you have a motorcycle equipped with a windshield, but no passing lamps assembly, use the washer (6645) to space the deflector away from the fork leg. 4. Position the wind deflector so it does not touch the bottom of the windshield or the turn signal. The deflector bolt holes are slotted for th is purpose. 5. When the deflector is correctly positioned, tighten the bolts to 17 ft-lbs (23 Nm). 6. Repeat steps 1-5 for the opposite side of the vehicle

CHANGING ENGINE OIL CAUTION In case of oil leakage or malfunctions, contact an Aprilia Authorised Dealer . Do not dispose of oil in the environ- ment. Dispose of engine oil – stored in a sealed container – through the nearest waste oil reclamation firm or through the supplier. Carefully read page 34 (MAINTE- NANCE) To change engien oil: ◆ Ride for a few kilometres until engine reaches the operating temperature, then stop the engine. ◆ Position a graduated container (1), under the drain plug (2). ◆ Loosen oil filler plug (4) and drain plug (2). ◆ Let oil flow out of the sump. ◆ Loosen oil filter (3) and carefully clean it. ◆ Refit the filter and tighten fully. ◆ Tighten drain plug (2) and pour recommended oil into filler plug (4), see page 58 (LUBRICANT CHART). ◆ Tighten the filler plug. CAUTION Carefully tighten filler and drain plugs and ensure oil does not leak out. Periodically check for leaks at the casing cover gasket. Do not use the vehicle with insufficient lubrication or with contaminated or unsuitable lubricants, since this would cause early wear of the moving parts and may also cause irreparable failures Fluid reservoir (1) is under rear right wheelhouse. CAUTION Position the vehicle on firm and flat ground. ◆ Make sure that the fluid contained in the reservoir exceeds the ” MIN ” mark stamped on the reservoir. MIN = minimum level. WARNING Do not use the vehicle if the braking system is leaking fluid. CAUTION Do not use the vehicle if the fluid is below the “MIN” mark. 1

1. Remove the 2 Flanged Bolts securing the Tensioner Assembly. 2. Remove Tensioner Assembly from the engine block. 3. Unscrew and remove Lock Bolt. 4. Remove Pushrod, Ball & Retainer, Spring and “O” ring. Clean parts thoroughly and apply grease to the Balls & Retainer. Re-assembly procedure : 1. Place Spring on Pushrod and compress the spring beyond the hole in the Pushrod. 2. Insert a pin or wire into the hole in the Pushrod to hold the Spring in its’ compressed position. 3. Place Balls & Retainer onto Pushrod. 4. Insert Pushrod into the Tensioner body with the small flat on the Pushrod facing, and aligned with, the Locking Bolt hole. 5. Insert the Locking Bolt and tighten it against the small flat on the Pushrod to lock the Pushrod in the compressed position. Remove the pin that’s holding the Spring compressed. 6. Install the Tensioner assembly onto the cylinder block and install and tighten both Flanged Bolts. Be sure that the “O” ring has been installed at the base of the flange. 7.Looosen the Lock Bolt to release the Pushrod, then re-tighten the lock bolt

While holding the headlamp (1), remove the left and right headlamp bracket mounting screws (2). 2. See Figure 5. Obtain the headlamp visor (2) from the kit. 3. See Figure 2. Orient the headlamp visor (1) between the headlamp and headlamp mounting bracket (2) and reinstall the headlamp bracket mounting screws (3) securing the visor and headlamp to the headlamp mounting bracket. 4. Fork Tube Clamp and Post Identification (Right-Side Clamp Shown) WINDSHIELD INSTALLATION 1. See Figure 5. Obtain one of the lower mount kits from the windshield kit carton. Identify the fork tube clamp for right- side (RT) or left-side (LFT) installation as indicated in Figure 3. NOTE The lower grommets (4) have been pre-installed into the Lexan® windshield. 2. Insert the rounded end of the post into the socket in the fork-tube clamp, oriented as shown in Figure 5. Lining up the hole in the end of the post with the hole in the clamp. With a 3 mm hex key, fasten the post to the clamp with the flat-head screw (16) from the kit, and tighten to 6.8 Nm (60 in-lbs ). 3. Place the clamp around the correct-side fork tube with the hinge-pin head facing up. Insert the two longer screws (15) from the lower mount kit through the counterbored holes in the outboard side of the clamp, and thread the screws part-way into the tapped holes in the inboard half. 4. Position the clamp so the top surface is approximately 6 to 13 mm (1/4 to 1/2 inch) below the upper triple-tree, and the hinge pin is straight forward. With a 4 mm hex key, tighten the screws just enough to hold the clamp in posi- tion. 5. Obtain the remaining lower mount kit and repeat Steps 2 through 4 to install the clamp to the opposite fork tube. 6. Obtain the upper mount kit from the windshield kit carton. NOTE The upper grommets (4), socket assemblies (3), windshield mount caps (6) and 5 mm screws (9) have been pre-installed into the windshield. 7. Place one of the handlebar clamps (5) onto one side of the handlebar, in the straight section between the riser and the handlebar controls, oriented as shown in Figure 4. NOTE Temporarily disengage the switch harness retainer from the handlebar to allow installation of the clamp.

NOTE: Use the same procedure for the LH side as the RH side. 1. Place the window in the down position. 2. Remove the window run. Completely remove the double-sided tape remaining on the frame. 3. Thoroughly clean the door frame using a white body shop towel and Kent Acrysol. NOTE: Do NOT use red shop towels. These towels contain silicone. 4. Install the door glass window run. A. Position the glass run at the No. 2 and No. 3 corners of the door frame and then attach the middle part of the run. B. Insert the glass run into the window run channels. NOTE: Do NOT apply water or lubricant to the glass run when inserting it into the door. Make sure the glass run fits securely into the holes of the door frame

1. Remove the stock windshield. 2. Remove all hardware that secures the mounting brackets to the windshield. The nine screws that must be removed require a T-27 TORX screwdriver. Save all hardware and brackets for installing the new windshield. 3. Remove all old tape from the brackets. Apply tapefrom kit to areas of the new windshield that had tape on the stock windshield. NOTE Using a radiant heat gun on low, will aid in removing the brackets from the windshield. Do not over tighten fasteners in the next step. Over tightening can crack the windshield. 4. Install all brackets and tighten all screws and acorn nuts to 4-5 ft-lbs (0.5-0.6 Nm). 5. Install the windshield on the motorcycle. NOTE See the next page for important care and cleaning instructions.
