After we re-flash the ECM it will be in “Automatic Registration Mode” when you install it. The ECM is
expecting that when first powered up (by turning on a key) that it will encounter 3 new keys. The first two keys
are internally (inside the ECM) designated as MASTER keys and the 3rd key inserted will be internally
designated as the VALET key. The ECM can be programmed with as few as 1 key. If less than 3 keys are
programmed into the ECM the security light may flash for some time (hours to weeks) until the ECM “learns”
that it is apparently not going to get any more keys.

1 Remove the seat 2 Uplug the stock wiring harness from the ECM (Fig. A) 3 Remove the 4 nuts that hold the ECM to the bracket and remove the ECM. 4 Remove the bolt that holds the seat strap to the rear fender. 5 Remove the ECM bracket from the fender. Remove one nut at a time or the bracket will fall into the tire. Reinstall the nuts to support the inner fender bracket. Due to the limited amount of room on this bike the seat strap and ECM bracket can NOTbe re-used. 6 Connect the PCVharness in-line of the stock wiring harness and ECM (Fig. B). 7 Place the BLACK PCVto GREYstock connector as close to the fuse box as possible. This connection will NOT lay flat against the frame. 8 Using the supplied velcro secure the ECM to the rear fender. Place the ECM as far down as possible. The upper part of the ECM will just overlap the bolt hole for the seat strap. Make sure to clean both surfaces with the alcohol swab before attaching. If using the Autotune kit offset the ECM about 1″ from center to the right side of the bike. 9 Remove the security module from the top of the battery (Fig. C). This unit slides to the right of the bike.

1 Remove the stock seat. 2 Unplug the stock wiring harness from the ECM (Fig. A) . 3 Remove the ECM from the tray and remove the tray from the fender. You can reach underneath the fender to gain access to the release tabs for the tray. 4 Install the Dynojet tray into the rear fender . Make sure that all 3 location tabs are underneath the fender. 5 Lay the PCIII in the tray (Fig. B). 6 Install the stock ECM on top of the PCIII making sure that it is secured by the tray locking tabs. 7 Plug the GREYconnector from the PCIII into the ECM. 8 Route the PCIII harness on top of the GREY connector (Fig. C) and route towards the front of the bike. 1. Block motorcycle underneath frame so front wheel is raised off the ground. 2. See Figure 1. Remove the upper (1) and lower (2) brake caliper mounting bolts and brake caliper(s) (3). Support caliper(s) using a rubber bungee cord. Be careful not to scratch fender paint. NOTES Do not operate front brake lever with the front wheel removed or the caliper piston may be forced out of piston bores. Reseating the piston requires disassembly of the caliper. Prior to removal, make note of existing left and right spacer location. The new spacers will be installed in the locations. 3. See Figure 3. On left side of wheel, remove axle nut (D), lockwasher (E) and washer (F). Perform the following: 4. Sportster and Dyna (except FXDWG) See Figure 2. Apply a light coat of ANTI-SEIZE LUBRICANT (Harley- Davidson Part Number 98960-97) to the axle.
7. Place wheel between sliders and install axle. Verify that axle spacers on right and left side are properly installed. 8. See Figure 3. Install the washer (F), lockwasher (E) and nut (D) onto threaded end of axle (A). 9. In order to properly align the front fork, perform the fol- lowing: a. On the right side of the wheel, insert a 7/16 inch drill bit through the hole in the axle. While holding axle stationary, tighten axle nut to 50-55 ft-lbs (61.0-74.6 Nm) . b. Pull fork leg so that it just contacts drill bit. Tighten according to the following: c. Refer to Figure 2. Tighten the Axle Pinch Bolt Nut to 25-30 ft-lbs (33.9-40.7 Nm) . d. Remove drill bit from axle hole. 10. Follow instructions in Service Manual and install brake caliper to the sliders noting the following: •Loosely install long bolt to the top hole on fork leg. Install the short mounting bolt to the bottom hole and tighten to 28-38 ft-lb (38.0-51.5 Nm) . •Final tighten top bolt to 28-38 ft-lbs (38.0-51.5 Nm) . 11. Repeat Step 10 to install brake caliper on opposite side of wheel. After servicing brakes and before moving motorcycle, pump brakes to build brake system pressure. Insufficient pressure can adversely affect brake performance, which could result in death or serious injury. (00279a) 12. Pump brake lever to move pistons out until they contact both brake pads. The installation of the AFR Tuner should be done by experienced technicians only. Always disconnect the battery from the motorcycle before making any modification to the wiring harness. Remove the negative terminal from the battery before starting the installation work. The quality of the installation work greatly affects the reliability of the AFR Tuner and the motorcycle. Work precisely and very carefully when modifying the wiring harness of the vehicle. Always double check that the wire you are about to cut or tap into is the correct one. The ECM or the AFR Tuner can be destroyed by a faulty installation. 3.2. Installing the AFR Tuner to the wiring harness 3.2.1. Main cable The AFR Tuner connects to the motorcycle through its Main connector . Figure 2 shows the wiring diagram and the necessary modifications, which needs to be made when installing the unit into the fuel injection system of the motorcycle. Information about the ECM terminal numbers and wire colors for some popular motorcycles can be found in Chapter 6 . The best location for installing the AFR Tuner main unit is at the passenger seat area of the motorcycle mounted in the trunk space or on the subframe under the fairing, as this place provides protection from engine heat and the weather. Electrical contact between the metal casing of the AFR Tuner and the rear subframe must be prevented by using insulating material, such as the included self adhesive velcro strips. If necessary use some cable ties to secure the unit in place. The installation of the AFR Tuner into the wiring harness involves tapping into some wires and cutting others while connecting the two ends to the AFR Tuner. The harness modifications are best done near the ECM, since most of the wires can be found there. Part of the wiring modifications are related to connecting the AFR Tuner in-line between the ECM and the fuel injectors. In such cases when the motorcycle is equipped with primary and secondary injectors the AFR Tuner has to be installed on the primary injectors, which operate under all engine conditions. Correct grounding of the AFR Tuner is very important for electrical noise reduction. The above mentioned insulation of the metal case from the motorcycle frame is necessary for the same reason, which is to avoid the forming of a ground loop. An even more important requirement is the correct connection of the three ground wires of the AFR Tuner. As shown on Figure 2 , these three wires must be led out separately to the ECM and connected together at same point where the ECM ground wire is tapped into. This point should be as close to the ECM terminal as possible. For best quality of the electrical contacts all connections should be done by soldering and covering the exposed part of the wire with heat shrink tubing. For reliability reasons do not use clip on type wire taps

Installing Rear Caliper – Sportster Models Removing The Stock Brakes SPORTSTER REAR BRAKE SYSTEM 84 & UP MODELS The basic steps are the same to install a PM rear brake caliper kit on any of the late model Harley Davidson “swingarm” style motorcycles; all require the removal of the rear wheel. Using a suitable lift, raise the motorcycle high enough off the ground to allow you to remove the rear wheel assembly. PHOTO 2 W a r n i n g Center the motorcycle on the lift so that it will not fall while you are working on it. Photo 2: Remove the rear brake caliper assembly by unscrewing the 2 caliper mounting bolts that go through the caliper into the caliper mounting bracket. Lift the caliper up and off the mounting bracket and brake rotor, move the caliper back out of your working area. Don’t remove the brake line from the caliper yet; you will do this just before you are ready to hook it up to the new caliper. The brake pads are held into the caliper mounting bracket by 2 spring clips; slide the brake pads out of the mounting bracket and remove the retaining springs.
