After we re-flash the ECM it will be in “Automatic Registration Mode” when you install it. The ECM is
expecting that when first powered up (by turning on a key) that it will encounter 3 new keys. The first two keys
are internally (inside the ECM) designated as MASTER keys and the 3rd key inserted will be internally
designated as the VALET key. The ECM can be programmed with as few as 1 key. If less than 3 keys are
programmed into the ECM the security light may flash for some time (hours to weeks) until the ECM “learns”
that it is apparently not going to get any more keys.

1 Remove the seat 2 Uplug the stock wiring harness from the ECM (Fig. A) 3 Remove the 4 nuts that hold the ECM to the bracket and remove the ECM. 4 Remove the bolt that holds the seat strap to the rear fender. 5 Remove the ECM bracket from the fender. Remove one nut at a time or the bracket will fall into the tire. Reinstall the nuts to support the inner fender bracket. Due to the limited amount of room on this bike the seat strap and ECM bracket can NOTbe re-used. 6 Connect the PCVharness in-line of the stock wiring harness and ECM (Fig. B). 7 Place the BLACK PCVto GREYstock connector as close to the fuse box as possible. This connection will NOT lay flat against the frame. 8 Using the supplied velcro secure the ECM to the rear fender. Place the ECM as far down as possible. The upper part of the ECM will just overlap the bolt hole for the seat strap. Make sure to clean both surfaces with the alcohol swab before attaching. If using the Autotune kit offset the ECM about 1″ from center to the right side of the bike. 9 Remove the security module from the top of the battery (Fig. C). This unit slides to the right of the bike.

Install the new ECM, then reinstall the cruise/ reverse control module in the reverse order of removal. NOTE: When you start the vehicle – after completing ALL procedures – the new ECM will require initialization . To initialize the new ECM, perform the following procedure: • Start the bike and allow it to warm up to normal operating temperature and remain at idle for at least 90 seconds . Do not operate the throttle during this time; if you do, the ECU will not initialize properly and the process will need to be repeated. 5. Proceed to the Cylinder Head Inspection section below. The PE-ECU-1 can be installed on virtually any 1,2,4,6 or 8 cylinder even-firing engine that requires fuel injection and/or ignition control. All of the functions of the ECU can be adjusted by using a laptop or PC running Windows. The following describes the basic requirements for using the system with a Honda 600cc F4 or F4I motorcycle engine. Please refer to the User’s Manual for a more in-depth description. Input Sensors The stock Honda F4 and F4I crank position sensors can be used with the PE-ECU-1 engine control system, provided the engine controller is configured for a 2- wire variable reluctance sensor. The configuration for the input is handled at the factory via a set of board jumpers. If the type of crank sensor should ever be changed, please contact PE for support on this issue. The stock Honda crank sensor should be wired according to the following: • Solid Yellow Wire – Pin 34 on ECU • Yellow with White Stripe (GND) – Pin 25 on ECU Failure to wire the sensor in this way may result in an engine that misfires and/or has incorrect ignition timing. The stock Honda trigger wheel cannot be used with the PE-ECU-1 system due to the differences in the number and spacing of the teeth. The PE-ECU-1 must be provided with a 12-1 pulse-train, correctly phased with TDC #1 according to Figure 1

The installation of the AFR Tuner should be done by experienced technicians only. Always disconnect the battery from the motorcycle before making any modification to the wiring harness. Remove the negative terminal from the battery before starting the installation work. The quality of the installation work greatly affects the reliability of the AFR Tuner and the motorcycle. Work precisely and very carefully when modifying the wiring harness of the vehicle. Always double check that the wire you are about to cut or tap into is the correct one. The ECM or the AFR Tuner can be destroyed by a faulty installation. 3.2. Installing the AFR Tuner to the wiring harness 3.2.1. Main cable The AFR Tuner connects to the motorcycle through its Main connector . Figure 2 shows the wiring diagram and the necessary modifications, which needs to be made when installing the unit into the fuel injection system of the motorcycle. Information about the ECM terminal numbers and wire colors for some popular motorcycles can be found in Chapter 6 . The best location for installing the AFR Tuner main unit is at the passenger seat area of the motorcycle mounted in the trunk space or on the subframe under the fairing, as this place provides protection from engine heat and the weather. Electrical contact between the metal casing of the AFR Tuner and the rear subframe must be prevented by using insulating material, such as the included self adhesive velcro strips. If necessary use some cable ties to secure the unit in place. The installation of the AFR Tuner into the wiring harness involves tapping into some wires and cutting others while connecting the two ends to the AFR Tuner. The harness modifications are best done near the ECM, since most of the wires can be found there. Part of the wiring modifications are related to connecting the AFR Tuner in-line between the ECM and the fuel injectors. In such cases when the motorcycle is equipped with primary and secondary injectors the AFR Tuner has to be installed on the primary injectors, which operate under all engine conditions. Correct grounding of the AFR Tuner is very important for electrical noise reduction. The above mentioned insulation of the metal case from the motorcycle frame is necessary for the same reason, which is to avoid the forming of a ground loop. An even more important requirement is the correct connection of the three ground wires of the AFR Tuner. As shown on Figure 2 , these three wires must be led out separately to the ECM and connected together at same point where the ECM ground wire is tapped into. This point should be as close to the ECM terminal as possible. For best quality of the electrical contacts all connections should be done by soldering and covering the exposed part of the wire with heat shrink tubing. For reliability reasons do not use clip on type wire taps

Refer to the REMOVAL/REPLACEMENT section 9C in the 1995-1996 FLT Service Manual, Part No. 99483- 96A. 2. Install ECM in accordance with the installation procedure given in the Service Manual. 2) CALIBRATING THE ECM Have dealer recalibrate the ECM prior to starting vehicle. NOTE The product information (EO) label contained in this kit is required in the state of California only. This label is required to aid in passing the California Smog Check Program. Place the information label on the right side of the frame directly beneath the VIN sticker. Do not place the label over other product information labels. Do not place the label on motorcycles other than those specified in the instruction sheet. 3) REPLACING STOCK AIR CLEANER Removing Stock Air Cleaner NOTE Refer to the applicable Service Manual and check the warm- slow idle speed adjustment before removing stock backplate. 1. Remove stock backplate following the instructions given in the appropriate Service Manual. 2. See Service Parts Illustration. Retain stock air cleaner cover and buttonhead screw and washer. Installing High Performance Air Cleaner 1. See Service Parts Illustration. Locate banjo bolts (10) included with kit. Place one washer (11) over each banjo bolt. Insert bolts through holes in mounting bracket (15). Place a second washer over each bolt. Place manifold breather (16) over bolts with hose fitting toward rear of motorcycle. We highly recommend having a professional install this undertail. A dremel tool or nsimilar is what we found the best to cut plastics. Place bike on a rear wheel center stand. Remove passenger seat and hardware which secure stock undertail section Unplug the harness that connects tail light and remove the stock undertail. Position Bestem undertail close to the bike and determine the amount of plastic needs to be cut out. Use a dremel tool to carefully trim off plastics (glove boxes etc). This is the most time consuming part of the installation but your patience will be paid off. 5) Once the new undertail is slide in, determine holes need to be drilled (only on
certain models). Reuse the hardware for the stock undertail to secure the new undertail. 6) The wiring color codes from two round tail lights are Black Wire – Ground, connects to Ground wire. Red Wire – Brake Light, connects to brake light. Blue Wire – Running Light, connect directly to the running light. Orange Wire – Turn Signal, connect them to your L/R turn signal wires We highly suggest you solder the connections and use heat shrink wrap to seal the connections. Test your lights before going out for a ride, also make sure your new undertail is securely installed on the bike. Now it’s time to go out for a spin!

Remove the lower fairing. Remove the existing exhaust system from the middle of the stock pipe. Save the stock exhaust can mounting bolt and nut for the end can to the passenger footpeg for reuse as well. Remove the clamp from the stock exhaust system and save for reuse. Install the S-Bend to the rear of the stock head pipe. Reuse the stock clamp, but do not tighten at this time. Slide the TiForce end can into place. Loosely attach the two rubber bands, stainless steel bands K, and stay / hanger G to the end can using the supplied 6mm hardware H. See figure 1 for details. Place the bands approximately 190-200mm from the edge of the end can. See figure 2 for details.
Using the stock provided mounting point on the passenger footpeg, and using the stock mounting bolt, mount
the end can loosely, allowing for some adjustment. Insert the stock mounting bolt through the stay / hanger G.
Attach the supplied springs to fasten the end can to the S-bend pipe. Make sure the exhaust system is free and clear, if necessary jiggle the system to adjust for proper clearance. Carefully align the two stainless bands K so that they are parallel to each other, and spaced prope rly on the can (refer to step 7 / figure 2), then tighten the 6mm hardware H and the stock mounting bolt hardware. Make sure that the rubber pads fully cover the band(s). USE CAUTION WHEN TIGHTENING THE 6MM HARDWARE AND THE TWO BANDS SO AS NOT TO CRUSH OR DISTORT THE SLEEVE OF THE CAN. Using some brake and contact cleaner on a clean rag, carefully wipe down the entire exhaust system
