Several new unique features are creating interest among Ridley Riders on the company’s riders forum, one of which is a parking brake. “We take comments from the owners of our motorcycles very, very seriously. Ridley Riders have asked for a parking brake for added security”, commented Jay Ridley, Vice President for the company. Added to the long list of improvements for the new year model is the new “2 Year Plus” factory warranty which offers twenty-five months of factory backed warranty. According to Ridley, this new warranty exceeds coverage provided by most other domestic manufacturer’s. One more reason Ridley believes 2008 will be the company’s best selling year model. With the holiday season fast approaching, Ridley Motorcycle felt the introduction of the new models would have more impact if held back until the middle of November. For Ridley, the holiday season means big business. Several of Ridley’s dealers have reported higher sales in December than in May. The company attributed this to their market which is nearly divided in half among men and women.

FUEL DANGER Fuel used to drive internal combustion engines is highly inflammable and may become explosive under certain conditions. It is best to refuel and carry out maintenance in well ventilated places with the engine switched off. Do not smoke during refuelling or near fuel fumes. Avoid all contact with naked flames, sparks, or any other source that may cause ignition or explosion. Also avoid allowing the fuel to spill out of the filler cap as it could catch fire on contact with the very hot surfaces on the engine. Should fuel be spilled accidentally check that the area is completely dry before starting up the vehicle. The fuel expands when subjected to heat or the sun’s rays. The fuel tank should therefore never be filled to the brim. Close the filler cap carefully on completing refuelling. Avoid the fuel coming into contact with your skin, inhaling vapours, ingestion and siphoning from one container to another using a hose. DO NOT DISPOSE OF THE FUEL INTO THE ENVIRONMENT. KEEP AWAY FROM CHILDREN. Only use super lead-free petrol, with a minimum octane rating of 95 (N.O.R.M.) and 85 (N.O.M.M.). LUBRICANTS DANGER Adequate lubrication of the vehicle is essential to guarantee the safety of the vehicle. Failure to keep lubricants at sufficiently high levels or the use of inadequate, new and clean lubricants may cause the engine or gearbox to seize, resulting in accidents, serious injury or death. Gearbox oil may cause serious harm to your skin if handled for long periods of time and on a daily ba- sis. We recommend washing your hands carefully after having handled this oil. Do not dispose of the oil into the environment. Deliver this oil to the nearest collection company for spent oil or the supplier, or have them collect it. WARNING When putting oil into the vehicle be very careful not to spill any. Immediately clean off any spilt oil, otherwise it may damage the paintwork on the vehicle. In addition, any oil that ends up on the tyres will make them extremely slippery, creating a dangerous situation. If an oil leak should arise, do not use the vehicle. Check and identify the cause of the leak and repair the component involved. ENGINE OIL DANGER Engine oil may cause serious harm to your skin if handled for long periods of time and on a daily ba- sis. We recommend washing your hands carefully after having handled this oil. Do not dispose of the oil into the environment. Deliver this oil to the nearest collection company for spent oil or the supplier, or have them collect it. When carrying out maintenance we recommend wearing latex gloves. FORK OIL DANGER Adjusting the setting on the shock absorbers and/or the viscosity of the oil used in them may partially change the reaction of the suspension. Standard oil viscosity: SAE 20 W. The viscosity grade may be chosen in relation to the type of set-up you want on the vehicle (SAE 5W soft, 20W rigid). These two products may be used in varying percentages in order to obtain the required reaction

Kit includes 1 Mid pipe 1 Silencer 1 Silencer clamp 1 8×20 bolt 1 quiet core Installation instructions Save your stock parts. Some may be used for installation of new pipe! 1. Remove your stock silencer leaving the stock head pipe. 2. install mid pipe sliding it over the end of the stock head pipe. 3. place the Silencer onto the mid pipe. Make sure the clamps are in correct position. Loosely mount the silencer w/ the provided 8×20 bolts. 4. Tighten the silencer bolt (torque to manufactures specs). 5. Make sure the clamps are tightened to the silencer. 6. Install LTE’s Gen 3 TFI that is programmed for optimum performance w/ no tuning. 7. After running this unit for the first 15-20 minutes allow the system to cool and re-check the system for any loose bolts or nuts. It is also good to check the spark plug to see that you are not running to lean or rich. NOTE: TFI Gen 3 specs are for sea level with the airbox lid removed for optimum performance. Check your packing after 20hrs of riding for optimum power and lowest db levels. It is your responsibility to read and understand these instructions.

Suspension Basics for BMW Motorcycles

tires: Tires are the first part of any suspension system. The design of the tire and even the pressure you run can have a profound affect on the way your motorcycle handles. Stiff, low profile tires will give a sharper feel to the bike, as will higher tire pressures. Those of us who ride our GS’s off the road will decrease the tire pressure to about 50% of the street spec when we are in the dirt. The tire then becomes a very active part of the suspension, but will wallow like an old pig if not re-inflated when pressed back into pavement duty. It still surprises me when we have a customer complain that his BMW needs new shocks when they come in with nearly flat tires. It is possible that the best dollars-per- unit improvement you can make to your BMW may be in keeping the tires inflated. Chassis: There is not much that we can do about the chassis design, unless we are Troy the Welder, but it is a fact that different frames and swing arms flex differently and therefore are part of the suspension. On the Airheads, we often braced various parts of the frame and swing arms, resulting in improved handling that even mere mortals could appreciate. On the latest BMW’s it would take the likes of a Valentino Rossi to even notice if the parts were stiffened. Stiffer is not always better. One of the Japanese racing bike manufactures controls the stiffness of the frame in various areas to allow some flex for better handling. So, Mr. Rossi might not even like it if Troy stiffened his new BMW. Springs: Springs control the ride height of the motorcycle and the ability to allow for different loads. On most BMW’s there is a way to adjust the spring preload to some extent so that the ride can be optimized for a light rider or two-up operation with luggage. Dampers: Dampers control the speed and frequency at which the suspension operates by changing the kinetic (moving) energy to thermal (heat) energy. Without the damper, the suspension would oscillate as each movement occurred, resulting in decreased vehicle control. Dampers on BMW’s fall into two main groups. On airheads, older K bikes, F and G models, and the R1200 HP-2, the front dampers are integrated into the forks. On the rear of the above mentioned -3 – models, and on both ends of all the rest of the bikes, there is a more common shock absorber, around which the spring is located. The HP-2 uses an air spring and air dampened rear shock. Seat: OK, folks, this is here for my old buddy Jeff. We know that a seat isn’t part of suspension, but a bad one sure can make you miserable. We have sent dozens of seats to our friend Mike Harris for inexpensive mods that might improve your riding enjoyment more than any suspension changes you could make!
