1. Female rod crankpin end to mainshaft nuts – .030″ minimum clearance recommended. A. Install sprocket shaft and crankpin in driveside flywheel. Snug nuts only. Do not torque to final specs. B. Slide connecting rods and bearings over crankpin. C. Rotate rods on crankpin, and observe clearance between rod and sprocket shaft nut. D. If additional clearance is needed, remove material from sprocket shaft nut. Do not remove material from connecting rod. E. Repeat procedure for camside flywheel and pinion shaft. 2. Female rod crankpin end to inner flywheel rim – .060″ clearance recommended. A. While checking female rod to mainshaft clearance, observe clearance between crankpin end of female rod and rim of both flywheels. B. If additional clearance is required, remove material from flywheel at point of contact. Do not remove material from connecting rod. 3. Wristpin end of both female and male rods to flywheel edge -.060″ minimum clearance recommended. A. While checking female rod to mainshaft clearance, observe clearance between wristpin end of both rods and rim of both flywheels. B. If additional clearance is required, remove material from flywheel at point of contact. Do not remove material from connecting rod. 4. Wristpin end to crankcase and cylinder – .060″ is recommended in these areas. A. With the camside flywheel and rods mocked up, install the assembly in the right crankcase half with pistons (less rings) and cylinders in place. B. Rotate flywheel through one full revolution and check for rod to crankcase and cylinder spigot contact on both the front and rear of each cylinder. C. File or grind crankcase or cylinder spigot as needed to achieve .060″ clearance. Do not remove morematerial than needed. D. Repeat for left crankcase half. NOTE: Whenever clearancing is performed in any of these areas, do not remove any material from the connecting rods as clearancing on the rods may unnecessarily weaken them. Make adjustments to the point of contact on the mainshaft nut, flywheel rim, crankcase, cylinder spigot, etc. Connecting rods weakened by clearancing may fail causing serious engine damage.

Follow the Transmission & Crankshaft section of your Victory motorcycle service manual for disassembling your Victory engine. 2-Your new S&S crankshaft and connecting rods will require assembly. S&S connecting rods aremachined to use the Orange Victory® rod bearings that are included in the kit (Bearing P/N 3514390-159). Perform rod bearing clearance inspection as follows: A-Wash or clean all of the following components: crankshaft crankpin, rods and rod bores, bearing inserts. B-Place a strip of Plastigauge®across the width of the crankpin. NOTE: Green Plastigauge (.001-.003″) is commonly used for this procedure, it can be purchased at the local automotive parts store. Do not place Plastigauge across oil holes. Be careful not to allow the rods to move during the rest of the inspection procedure. C-Mark the rod and cap at the separation line with a Sharpie®, Dykem®, or permanent marker to prevent rod caps from getting swapped from their original rod during the inspection and assembly process. D-Install connecting rods and bearing caps in the same order they were received. E-Torque rod bolts to 5 ft-lbs to seat caps. Then final torque bolts to 40 ft-lbs. F-Remove bearing caps carefully to prevent disturbing the Plastigauge®. G-Measure the widest part of the crushed Plastigauge to determine the rod bearing clearance. Do so by using the bands provided on the Plastigauge label. See Picture 3. H-Specification for oil clearance is: .00091″-.00279″ l If the resultant clearance is less than this specification, the bearings will need to be replaced with the thinner black color coded bearings, not available through S&S (Victory®P/N 3514390-067). l If the resultant clearance is greater than the specification, the bearings will need to be replaced with the thicker blue color coded bearings, not available through S&S (VictoryP/N 3514390-027). l If clearance is not within specification, clean old Plastigauge off components and reassemble rods to crankpin with a new strip of Plastigauge and the thinner or thicker bearings as determined above

locate the OEM tie rods (circled in yellow, in the picture below), and the rear shock absorber snubber (circled in red, in the picture below). Notice that there is a tie rod on each side of the motorcycle. These tie rods are secured by two long bolts that pass first through the LH tie rod, then through the suspension, and finally held in place by two 17mm nuts on the RH side. Loosen these two 17mm bolts, and prepare them for removal. It helps to raise the rear tire just slightly with a jack or by a helper, to take the load off of these 17mm bolts. Below is another picture, better exposing the orange rubber snubber on the lower shock absorber rod… This is where the snubber spacers are installed, but don’t do it just yet…there’s more info on this later in the instructions. 3. Remove the 17mm nuts from the tie rods, keep the weight off of the rear wheel, and remove the upper and lower bolts from the tie rods. The rods are easily removed at this point. Take notice that the LH rod has recesses in each end, where the heads of the 17mm securing bolts fit. 4. Replace the tie rods with the new Scootworks tie rods in your kit. Install the tie rod with the recessed bolt holes on the LH side, with the recesses facing outward. Re-install the bolts from the LH side, through the LH tie rod, through the suspension, and through the RH tie rod. Secure them with the original nuts, and torque to 43 ft/lbs. The recessed bolt holes in the LH tie rod are seen in the picture of the Scootworks KLR tie rods below… 5. Do not install the plastic snubber spacers at this time. Lower the rear of the bike and remove the frame from the lift or jack stands. The rear lowering is completed. Sit on the motorcycle and determine if you’ve lowered it to a satisfactory level. If not, proceed to step #6. Your Scootworks KLR Lowering Kit is now installed. The following information is supplied as a supplement, to allow you to complete the job of lowering your bike that you’ve begun by using this Quality Scootworks product. NOTE: Be sure to check the chain tension after installation of the lowering kit, and adjust as necessary. check Piston Alignment in Cylinder Bore The purpose of this procedure is to check for and correct possible piston misalignment in the cylinder bore. During normal manufacturing, engine components such as crankcases, cylinders, and connecting rods can be machined to dimensions within factory specifications but on the extreme ends of the tolerance range. Sometimes these components when combined together form an assembly that is borderline or actually “out of print”. The worst result is that the pistons can run cocked in the cylinder bores causing the connecting rods to thrust to the sides exerting unnecessary stress on the pistons, rings, rod bearings and other related parts. This procedure is not the same as “blue printing”, but it provides almost the same result. We feel that not enough emphasis is given to checking the piston alignment in the cylinder bore. NOTE – All engines should be checked upon disassembly. This applies to any engine receiving new pistons which includes those being completely overhauled. CAUTION – Pistons which do not run true in cylinder bores may cause excessive connecting rod side thrusting. This may lead to premature ring, piston, connecting rod and rod bearing wear and eventual failure of these parts. Visual Procedure A. Reinstall cylinders on old pistons without rings. Hold cylinders securely in place. B. Move piston tight toward camside of engine. C. Turn engine over in normal direction of travel 2 or 3 revolutions and observe piston during process. D. Move piston toward driveside of engine and repeat Step C. If misalignment exists, piston will appear closer to cylinder wall at one point around circumference. Condition can be corrected by bending rod in opposite direction. Figure 1 shows an exaggerated side view. E. Repeat Steps B to D for other cylinder. F. Remove pistons and cylinders. Observe pistons for wear spots on sides above top compression ring. If either side near wristpin is worn clean while side opposite is carboned up, then piston was not running straight and true in cylinder bore. Piston will also generally show diagonal wear pattern on thrust faces of skirts and possibly signs of connecting rod to wristpin boss contact inside piston.

This instruction sheet is written with the assumption you will be replacing stock components. If the bike is already modified, some of the steps may be different. To install the PM PhatRod Kit it will be necessary to raise the motorcycle off the ground on a suitable lift. Installation of the PM PhatRod Kit begins with the disassembly and removal of the entire rear end of the bike. For additional detailed information on removal of these parts, consult your factory manual. Some of the original hardware will be reused, do not discard until complete. 1) Remove Seat (both front and rear sections) 2) Remove Turn Signal Canceling Module and Bracket. 3) Remove Outer Fender (remove all 6 bolts from top of fender and save hardware) 4) Disconnect taillight harness from lights (do not remove at this point) 5) Remove shocks (save the mounting nuts and washers from the top of shocks only). 6) Remove shocks and forward most bolts from inside of fender/struts 7) The entire inner fender/struts/taillight assembly should come off at this point. See Photo 4 8) Remove front splash guard Be sure to center the motorcycle on the lift so that it does not fall over when you raise it up or when you are working on it Disconnect the battery. 1. Decide how far you would like to lower your bike. Refer to the hole-index chart in these instructions to determine the proper mounting location holes for the drop you want to achieve. 2. Secure motorcycle to bike lift and raise the motorcycle so the rear wheel is unweighted. 3. For easiest access to the linkage remove the tool kit holder from the left side of the bike. 4. Loosen and remove the two self-locking nuts and flat washers from connecting arm bolts from the left side of the motorcycle. 5. Slide connecting arm bolts out (it may be necessary to push bushing back to the left side to allow bolt head to drop below frame. Reinstall in the same manner). Replace stock connecting arms with your new Baron connecting arms. The end with the single hole goes down and attaches to relay arm. The end with three holes goes up and attaches to the frame. Use the hole that lowers the rear your chosen amount. Reinstall bolts, washers and nuts. Torque the two connecting arm nuts to 35 foot-pounds (48 Nm). Remove motorcycle from lift. NOTE : We recommend that you set the shock spring preload to a higher setting, especially if the motorcycle will be used for carrying a passenger or heavy loads.

CAUTIONS IN SERVICING CONNECTOR • * When connecting a connector, be sure to push it in until a click is felt. • * Inspect the connector for corrosion, contamination and breakage in its cover . COUPLER • With a lock type coupler, be sure to release the lock before disconnecting it and push it in fully till the lock works when connecting it . • * When disconnecting the coupler, be sure to hold the coupler itself and do not pull the lead wires . • * Inspect each terminal on the coupler for being loose or bent . • * Inspect each terminal for corrosion and contamination. CLAMP • * Clamp the wire harness at such positions as indicated in “WIRE HARNESS ROUTING”. ( r- 79-14 to 9-16) • * Bend the clamp properly so that the wire harness is clamped securely. • * In clamping the wire harness, use care not to allow it to hang down. • * Do not use wire or any other substitute for the band type clamp. FUSE • * When a fuse blows, always investigate the cause, correct it and then replace the fuse . • * Do not use a fuse of a different capacity . • * Do not use wire or any other substitute for the fuse . i SEMI-CONDUCTOR EQUIPPED PART • * Be careful not to drop the part with a semi-conductor built in such as a ECM. • * When inspecting this part, follow inspection instruction strictly . Neglecting proper procedure may cause damage to this part . BATTERY • The MF battery used in this motorcycle does not require maintenance (e.g., electrolyte level inspection, distilled water replenishment) . • * During normal charging, no hydrogen gas is produced. However, if the battery is overcharged, hydrogen gas may be produced. Therefore, be sure there are no fire or spark sources (e.g., short circuit) nearby when charging the battery . • * Be sure to recharge the battery in a well-ventilated and open area. •Note that the charging system for the MF battery is different from that of a conventional battery. Do not replace the MF battery with a conventional battery . CONNECTING THE BATTERY •When disconnecting terminals from the battery for disassembly or servicing, be sure to disconnect the O battery lead wire, first. • * When connecting the battery lead wires, be sure to connect the OO battery lead wire, first . • * If the terminal is corroded, remove the battery, pour warm water over it and clean it with a wire brush . • * After connecting the battery, apply a light coat of grease to the battery terminals. • * Install the cover over the O battery terminal. WIRING PROCEDURE • * Properly route the wire harness according to the “WIRE ROUTING” section. (C’9-14 to 9-16) ELECTRICAL SYSTEM 8- 3
8-4 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM USING THE MULTI CIRCUIT TESTER •Properly use the multi circuit tester Oand Oprobes. Improper use can cause damage to the motorcycle and tester. • * If the voltage and current values are not known, begin measuring in the highest range . • * When measuring the resistance, make sure that no voltage is applied. If voltage is applied, the tester will be damaged . • * After using the tester, be sure to turn the switch to the OFF position. CAUTION Before using the multi circuit tester, read its instruction manual.

Installation of an S&S Super Stock cylinder head kit is easy and can be performed by any Harley-Davidson®repair shop equipped to do engine overhauls. No special tools other than those used in normal overhaul repair work are required. Read instructions thoroughly before starting work. When they are completely understood proceed with installation. 1. Remove Components and Inspect Parts Follow procedures outlined in appropriate Harley-Davidson® service manual to prepare motorcycle for top end service. NOTE: Disconnect batteryand drain all gasoline from gas tanks beforedoing any work. Gasoline is extremely flammable and explosive under certain conditions and toxic when breathed. Do not smoke. Perform installation in a well ventilated area away from open flames or sparks. A. Remove gas tanks and all other parts required to perform top end service. B. Remove carburetor, rocker covers, pushrods and pushrod tube assemblies, cylinder heads and cylinders. Also remove piston rings from piston. Do not remove pistons. NOTE: Be careful not to introduce any dirt or other foreign material into crankcase during disassembly of engine. Metal filings, dirtand any other foreign contamination in engine may cause premature wear and/or irreversible damage to bearings and other internal engine components. C. Thoroughly clean and inspect all parts that are to be reused. Any parts that show signs of wear or damage should be replaced. WARNING CAUTION 2.
