1. Follow the instructions in your Owner’s Manual to remove the seat and any other components (side covers, etc.) necessary to provide access to the battery. 2. Refer to the applicable view in Figure 1 for your model. Break the battery negative (-) connection by removing the hardware assembly from the negative battery terminal. 3. Break the positive (+) battery connection by removing the hardware assembly from the positive battery terminal. 4. Clean the battery terminals and cable connectors using a wire brush or sandpaper to remove any oxidation. 5. Apply a light coating of Harley-Davidson electrical contact lubricant (Part Number 99861-02) to the battery terminals, cable connectors, battery charging harness ring terminals and connector located under the weather- shield cap. Connect positive (+) battery cable first. If positive (+) cable should contact ground with negative (-) cable connected, the resulting sparks can cause a battery explosion, which could result in death or serious injury. (00068a) 6. Refer to the view in Figure 1 used for disassembly. Install the positive (RED) lead of the harness to the positive (+) battery post following the sequence shown. • On 1999 and earlier models (with original equipment), torque the positive (+) terminal post bolt to 40 in-lbs (4.5 Nm). • On 2000 and later models (with original equipment), torque the positive (+) terminal post bolt to 60-96 in-lbs (6.8-10.9 Nm). 7. Attach the negative (BLACK) lead of the harness to the negative (-) battery post following the sequence shown. • On 1999 and earlier models (with original equipment), torque the negative (-) terminal post bolt to 40 in-lbs (4.5 Nm). • On 2000 and later models (with original equipment), torque the negative (-) terminal post bolt to 60-96 in-lbs (6.8-10.9 Nm). Harness Routing Do not route the harness near any moving parts. Contact with moving parts may result in damage to harness. Refer to the following sections to determine the correct harness routing for your model. Be sure to avoid any components that may pinch or cut the harness, and avoid components that radiate heat. Take up any slack in the cable and store out of sight. Secure the harness with cable straps (H-D Part Number 10006), which can be purchased separately from any Harley Davidson Dealer. VRSC Model Harness Routing 1. See Figure 2. Route the battery harness/ connector (3) toward the front of the bike following the upper left frame tube. Cleanly tuck the in-line fuse (2) into the space in front of the battery. 2. Continue to route the harness/ gray connector to the front of the bike and behind the vent cover. Secure the harness with a cable strap and let the connector protrude past the cover for easy access. Trim any excess from the cable strap

Using your motorcycle’s specific repair manual instructions, install the primary cover. 14. Connect the negative battery cable. 2.3 Factory Regulator Removal 1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. 2. Using your motorcycle’s specific repair manual instructions, remove the regulator. Save the factory-supplied hardware. 2.4 3-Phase Regulator Installation 1. Connect the 3-pin stator connector to the regulator. 2. Using the factory-supplied hardware, locate the 3-phase regulator on the mounting bracket and install using the factory-supplied hardware. Tighten to 50-80 in-lbs. 3. Attach the ground wire between the bracket mounting bolt and the bracket. Tighten to 70-100 in-lbs. 4. Trial-fit the long power wire to the motorcycle, and route to the original location of the factory regulator wire on the circuit breaker. 5. Trim any excess wire, and strip 5/16″ of insulation from the end of the wire using a wire stripper. 6. Slip the 1″ length of heat shrink (supplied) onto the wire. 7. Crimp on the (supplied) ring lug to the end of the wire, taking care that a good crimp connection is made.

Use a 10mm ratchet attachment to remove the battery from the vehicle. Negative terminal first, then positive. Be careful not to cause an arc between the two terminals as intense pain will result.
Remove the plastic plate that the battery sits in. 2. Using the 10mm attachment again, remove the 6 bolts that hold the passenger side front splash guard from underneath the front bumper
From underneath the vehicle, locate the oil filter. Look above oil filter and you will see the starter. Locate the bottom 14 mm bolt that attaches the lower portion of the starter to the engine. The bolt
drives from left to right. The starter is mounted toward the front of the vehicle and underneath the intake manifold. Still cant find it? Follow the cable that leads from the positive battery terminal. It
ends at the starter. Not sure you have the right bolt? Stick your 14mm attachment on it with your fingers and see if it fits on properly

Cobra will send a spacer (ECMU0555) to all OI / JR customers with silver radiators. Assembly instructions are listed below. If the customer is uncomfortable with the installation process, they may send the cap to their dealer or back to the factory for installation. Spacer installation 1. Start the process by removing the rubber gasket. Stretch it to elongate the center hole (yes it will stretch a long way). 2. Once the gasket is stretched sufficiently, pull it back over the center crown to remove. 3. With the rubber gasket removed, place the spacer centered crown on the cap. 4. With the spacer in place, lightly pry up the center crown with a small screwdriver . 5. With the center lifted, stretch the gasket and work it’s hole around the center crown. 6. When completed it should look like this.

PREPARATION To assemble the motorcycle correctly, supplies and working space are required. Supplies oils, greases, shop rags. Workshop The workshop where the motorcycle is assembled should be clean and large. The floor should be level. Self-protection Protect your eyes with suitable safety spectacles or safety goggles when using compressed air, when grinding or when doing any operation which may cause particles to fly off. Product hands and feet by wearing safety gloves or doing. SYMBOLS USED ON CRATE CARTON Contents of the transport package are fragile therefore it shall be handled with care. Indicates correct upright position of the transport package. Transport package shall be kept away from rain. Insertion of the lift arm from this side is prohibited. Lift arm inserting position. -1- UNPACKING 1. Remove the frame cover 1. NOTE: To remove the frame cover, cut the vinyl bands around the cover using a cutter or scissors. 2. Remove the bolts 2 (upper bracket). 3. Remove the bolt 3 (front tire). 4. Remove the packing frames 4 (upward and sideways). NOTE: Remove the bolts while holding frame. NOTE: Before starting the assembly, check for damaged or missing parts. CARE AND MAINTENANCE Voltmeter Test See Table 2. The voltmeter test provides a general indicator of battery condition. Check the voltage of the battery to verify that it is in a 100% fully-charged condition. If the open circuit (disconnected) voltage reading is below 12.7 V, charge the battery and then check the voltage again after the battery has set for one to two hours. If the voltage reading is 12.7 V or above, perform a load test. Table 2. Voltmeter Test For Battery Charge Conditions STATE OF CHARGE VOLTAGE (OCV) 100% 12.7 V 75% 12.6 V 50% 12.3 V 25% 12.0 V 0% 11.8 V Disconnection and Removal Refer to a service manual for specific disconnection and removal steps. Pay attention to all warnings and cautions within the manual and remove battery from battery box/tray. Battery Charging Batteries contain sulfuric acid, which could cause severe burns to eyes and skin. Wear a protective face shield, rubberized gloves and protective clothing when working with batteries. KEEP BATTERIES AWAY FROM CHILDREN. (00063a) 1. Never charge a battery without first reviewing the instructions for the charger being used. 2. Perform a voltmeter test to determine the state of charge. See BATTERY TESTING, VOLTMETER TEST. If battery needs to be charged, proceed to Step 3. Remove battery from motorcycle before charging. Electrolyte leakage will damage motorcycle parts. (00213a) Explosive hydrogen gas, which escapes during charging, could cause death or serious injury. Charge battery in a well-ventilated area. Keep open flames, electrical sparks and smoking materials away from battery at all times. KEEP BATTERIES AWAY FROM CHILDREN. (00065a) 3. See applicable service manual and remove the battery from the motorcycle. Place the battery on a level surface. 4. Inspect battery for damage. Replace battery if visibly damaged or frozen. 5. SEMI-CONDUCTOR EQUIPPED PART • * Be careful not to drop the part with a semi-conductor built in such as a ECM. • * When inspecting this part, follow inspection instruction strictly . Neglecting proper procedure may cause damage to this part . ELECTRICAL SYSTEM 7- 3 7-4 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM BATTERY •The MF battery used in this motorcycle does not require maintenance (e.g., electrolyte level inspection, distilled water replenishment) . • * During normal charging, no hydrogen gas is produced. However, if the battery is overcharged, hydrogen gas may be produced. Therefore, be sure there are no fire or spark sources (e.g., short circuit) nearby when charging the battery . • * Be sure to recharge the battery in a well-ventilated and open area. • Note that the charging system for the MF battery is different from that of a conventional battery. Do not replace the MF battery with a conventional battery . CONNECTING THE BATTERY •When disconnecting terminals from the battery for disassembly or servicing, be sure to disconnect the O battery lead wire, first. • * When connecting the battery lead wires, be sure to connect the OO battery lead wire first . • * If the terminal is corroded, remove the battery, pour warm water over it and clean it with a wire brush . • * After connecting the battery, apply a light coat of grease to the battery terminals. • * Install the cover over the O battery terminal. Improper use can cause damage to the motorcycle and tester. • * If the voltage and current values are not known, begin measuring in the highest range . • * When measuring the resistance, make sure that no voltage is applied. If voltage is applied, the tester will be damaged . • * After using the tester, be sure to turn the switch to the OFF position. CAUTION Before using the multi circuit tester, read its instruction manual.
