Installation of the Speedway Instruments microTach+TM tachometer requires some basic mechanical skills, including removing decorative covers, cutting protective tubing around wires, and using suitcase splice connectors to splice existing wiring harness. The microTach+ TM tachometer designed for 1999-2003 TC88 Harley Davidson motorcycles is designed to operate when connected to a dedicated Tachometer signal from the Electronic Ignition Controller. Coolant Temperature Gauge Indicator Light SPEEDOMETER The speedometer indicates the road speed of the motorcycle. In the speedometer face are the odometer and trip meter. The odometer shows the total distance that the motorcycle has travelled. The trip meter shows the distance travelled since the meter was last reset to zero. The trip meter can be reset to zero by rotating the reset knob situated on the left hand side of the speedometer. TACHOMETER The tachometer shows the engine speed in revolutions per minute – rpm (r/min). On the right side of the tachometer face is the ‘red zone’. Engine rpm (r/min) in the red zone is above maximum recommended engine speed and is also above the range for best performance. / f&it. ::;:%M,to %:th:’z zone as severe engme damage may NOTE The ‘Red Zone’ position for Daytona is different to that on the Speed Triple. General Information COOLANT TEMPERATURE GAUGE The coolant temperature gauge indicates the temperature of the engine coolant. On the right -hand side of the gauge face is the ‘red zone. If the temperature gauge needle moves into the ‘red zone’ this indicates that the engine is overheating. needle enters the ‘red zone’ as severe WARNING LIGHTS I a0 INDICATORS When the indicator switch is turned to left or right, the corresponding direction indicator light flashes on and off. cl ~ LOW OIL PRESSURE: The low oil pressure warning light becomes illuminated whenever the oil pressure is dangerously low (or the ignition switch is in the ‘ON’ position with the engine not running). When the engine is running, the light will remain off when sufficient oil pressure is present. When starting the motorcycle, check that the light comes on when the ignition is in the ‘ON’ position, but goes out as soon as the engine starts A! CAUTION: Stop the engine immediately if the low oil pressure warning light comes on during normal operation. Do not restart the engine until the fault has been rectified. Severe engine damage will result from running the engine when the oil warning light is illuminated. HIGH BEAM: When the headlights are switched on and the headlight dip switch is set to ‘high beam’, the high beam warning light will illuminate. IElI NEUTRAL: The neutral warning light indicates when the transmission is in neutral (no gear selected). The warning light will illuminate when the transmission is in neutral with ignition switch in the ‘ON’ position. ml LOW FUEL: The low fuel indicator will illuminate when there are approximately 3.7 litres of fuel remaining in the tank. Et3 ENGINE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT: The malfunction indicator light for the engine management system illuminates when the ignition is switched on, remains illuminated during starting, and goes out shortly after the engine starts. If the malfunction indicator light becomes illuminated during riding, a fault has occurred in the engine management system. In this case the system will switch to ‘limp-home’ mode so that riding may continue. Contact an authorised Triumph dealer as soon as possible to have the fault checked out and rectified

1995 Models To prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause death or serious injury, disconnect battery cables (negative cable first) before proceeding. Disconnect negative (-) battery cable first. If positive (+) cable should contact ground with negative (-) cable connected, the resulting sparks can cause a battery explosion, which could result in death or serious injury. (00049a) 1.1995 MODELS, REMOVAL OF ELECTRONIC SPEEDOMETER AND BRACKET 1a. Refer to applicable Service Manual procedure and remove seat. 1b. Refer to applicable Service Manual procedure and remove fuel tank. Stop the engine when refueling or servicing the fuel system. Do not smoke or allow open flame or sparks near gasoline. Gasoline is extremely flammable and highly explosive, which could result in death or serious injury. (00002a) 1c. Remove speedometer sensor cable from mounting clips under tank. See Figure 1. The 3-place speedometer sensor connector [65] is located on the frame beneath the seat. Remove connector from t-stud and disconnect. Cut cable tie holding sensor wires to right rear frame tube. 1d. Refer to applicable Service Manual procedure and remove headlamp, for work clearance. 1e Remove handlebar clamp screws securing speedometer bracket. Remove speedometer, bracket, and harness. 2.1995 MODELS, DISCONNECT MAIN WIRING HARNESS 8-PLACE CONNECTOR [21B, A] (FIGURE 2) 2a. Disconnect the battery, negative cable first. Refer to applicable Service Manual procedure and disconnect main wiring harness 8-place connector [21A, B], at the front of the motorcycle. 3.1995 MODELS, REMOVE SPEEDOMETER LEADS FROM 8-PLACE CONNECTOR [21B, A] (FIGURE 2) 3a. See Figure 2 and Service Manual wiring schematic. Pull the following wires and terminals out of connector [21B]. Wire Color Cavity Number Orange/white 5 White/green 1 Black 2 3b. Remove the large female connector from the fuel gauge black wire. 3c. Remove the screws that secure the indicator lamps assembly to the speedometer bracket. Retain screws and indicator lamps assembly for installation on speedometer/tachometer bracket later. 5.1995 MODELS, REMOVE SPEEDOMETER FROM BRACKET 5a. Unscrew boot from speedometer reset switch. Remove cover screws and rear cover. 5b. See Figure 3. Note position of rear speedometer gasket and remove it. Push on rear of speedometer while simultaneously pulling speedometer and front gasket from bracket. Do not remove front gasket from the speedometer. 6.1995 MODELS, INSTALL SPEEDOMETER IN KIT BRACKET 6a. See Figure 5. Place wires from speedometer through front of left opening in double bracket. Lubricate the front and rear gaskets with isopropyl alcohol or glass cleaner to ease installation. 6b. Insert speedometer into the front of the double bracket. Be sure wire guides are aligned with opening at bottom of bracket. 6c. Place rear gasket in position and align gasket tabs. Work gasket into space between speedometer and bracket by pushing speedometer against one side of bracket while pushing gasket into position at the opposite side. 6d. Add amber bulb assembly from kit to speedometer in order for tachometer and speedometer backlighting to match. 6e. Replace cover and boot from reset switch.

Turn ignition off and disconnect Battery. 2. Determine a mounting position. Each motorcycle is unique and the microTach+TM tachometer is small enough to be placed in many different locations to provide an attractive appearance and vital engine status. 3. Locate the 3 coil signals from the Electronic Ignition system and the coil in the wiring harness. It is easiest just to trace the signal back from the coil to an acceptable location to splice into the signal. The tach adapter must not be placed too close to the engine and wires should be protected with heat resistant tubing. Please consult your service manual to ensure proper signal location for your motorcycle. 4. Splice into the Left and Right coil signals (-) and connect to the Brown and Orange wires from Speedway Instruments tach adapter. Do not splice into the common (+) signal. See Figure 3. 5. Now locate a Ground wire and an +12V power signal either from the accessory fuse or instruments fuse near a location that the 3 remaining tach adapter wires can be routed. Please consult the proper service manual for your motorcycle to determine location and color code. 6. Once the tach signal wire is located plan out a routing path from the microTach+TM tachometer to the tach adapter and power and ground signals. Use the black tubing to protect wires and allow them to blend in well with other wires. 7. Remove red plastic from back of the microTach+TM tachometer adhesive tape and mount the microTach+ TM tachometer in place. Take extra care to ensure alignment and fitment before attaching. The adhesive tape is strong and will only stick once. If you mess up, don’t worry, the tape can be removed and you can buy replacement tape at your local hardware store. Just remember to get exterior industrial grade tape.

INSTALLATION ■ Outline Procedures This section gives general information needed for mounting the individual radio components on and in the fairing. A) Fairing 1) Install radio on fairing before mounting fairing on motorcycle. (Remove fairing from your motorcycle when already mounted). 2) Remove fairing parts. 3) Drill unit mount holes. 4) Install six wire clips. 5) Install windshield on fairing before install- ing speakers. 6) Install radio indicator I on indicator panel II , then install indicator panel on fairing. 7) Install speakers III. 8) Install nutplate IV. 9) Install Power Amplifier in fairing. 10) Install radio funer VI. 11) Install the radio controller VII. 12) Install controller base panel VIII 13) Install radio switch sub-wire. 14) Connect adapter harness and wires inside fairing by working through left turn signal lens hole. B) Motorcycle frame and handlebar 1) Remove travel trunk and seat. Unscrew four shelter bolts (M6, one on each side at front and rear) to route antenna feeder. 2) Install antenna mount and antenna IX. 3) Route antenna feeder along the frame tube. 4) Install radio switch X on left handlebar lever bracket and route the wires. 3 of 11 Page 4 C) Fairing instllation 1) Install fairing on motorcycle. 2) Connect motorcycle wire harness 9-P coupler to fairing wire 9-P coupler. 3) Connect radio switch wire to switch sub- wire.4) Connect antenna feeder. 5) Confirm that radio operates properly. Reinstall parts removed in step 2 or (A) and in step 1 of (B). REWORKING ■ Remove Fairing and Fairing Parts (Fig.10) 1) Install radio on fairing before mounting fairing on motorcycle. (Remove fairing from your motorcycle when already mounted). 2) Remove right and left fairing pockets, right and left turn signal lenses, right and left nutplates, left hole cover and indi- cator base panel from fairing. (Fig.10) Fig. 10 LEI-1 NU I PLATE 4 of 11■ Reworking on Fairing — Speaker mounting holes- 1) Remove 18 mm grommet. 2) Lightly roll template so that it will follow contour of fairing snugly. 3) Position template on fairing with its upper and outer edges aligned with those offairing as indicated by arrows. 4) Attach template to fairing using adhesive tape where shown. 5) Punch mark centers of four holes with a
drift and hammer. 6) Drill 6 mm holes through marked centers. To obtain a more balanced response with richer, deeper bases, drill two 50 mm holes in the fairing so as to link the speaker box with the inside of the fairing. Fig. 11-1
