Cover the throttle bodies to prevent anything from dropping into the engine. 1. Remove the front seat and disconnect the battery. (Refer to Service Manual, Page 8-8) 2. Lift up the fuel tank. (Refer to Service Manual, Page 5-3) 3. Remove the air cleaner box. (Refer to Service Manual, Page 5-14) 4. Remove and replace the ISC valve. (Refer to Service Manual, Page 5-25) NOTE: Since the ECM is also being replaced there is no need to perform the ISC valve preset operation. 5. Install the air cleaner box in reverse order of removal. (Refer to Service Manual, Page 5-14) 6. Lower the fuel tank. (Refer to Service Manual, Page 5-3) 7. Remove the upper seat rail plate. Disconnect and remove the ECM. (Figure 1) @ ISC Valve Mounting Screw Torque: 2.1± ±0.6 N.m (1.5± ±0.4 lb-ft) ! Carefully insert the ISC valve straight into the throttle body hole to prevent damaging the o-ring. Turn the ISC valve slightly to confirm that the o-ring has not twisted. Using the new screw provided in the replacement parts kit, make sure the screw is completely seated on the plate after the screw has been tightened to the specified torque. 4. Remove and replace the ISC valve. (Refer to Service Manual, Page 5-25) NOTE: Since the ECM is also being replaced there is no need to perform the ISC valve preset operation. ! Remove existing front wheel assembly. Save axle, axle nut, brake disc, and wheel spacers for kit installation. Refer to FRONT WHEEL in service manual. For FLSTC and FLSTN Models: Discard moon-style hub cap. -J04065 1 of 8 For FXSTD Models: Discard the tapered r ight side wheel spacer. Do not re-use brake disc/rotor screws. Re-using these screws can result in torque loss and damage to brake components. (00319c) NOTE • For Kits 43573-08, 43575-08, 43703-08, 43978-07, 43771- 07, 43609-07, 44323-07, 44282-07, 44322-07, 43975-07, 43602-07 and 43773-07 install short valve stem (43157- 83A) included in the installation kit. • For Kits 40943-09, 40966-09 and 40996-09 install long valve stem (43206-01) included in the installation kit. 2. See Figure 2. Install valve stem assembly (L, M or N) on wheel. Refer to TIRES in service manual. 3. Assemble wheel installation kit components and brake disc(s) to wheel, using the appropriate service parts table. Refer to FRONT WHEEL in Service Manual. NOTES Install the primary bearing first using appropriate service manual and WHEEL BEARING REMOVER/INSTALLER. For Kits 43573-08, 43575-08, 43703-08, 43978-07, 43771-07, 43609-07, 40943-09, 40966-09 and 40996-09: • The left side of the wheel has a machined groove (item 5, Figure 2) in the hub face and/or DOT markings to identify it as the brake disc and primary bearing side. • Install the wheel so that the valve stem is on the right side of the motorcycle. For Kits 44323-07, 44322-07 and 44282-07: • Install the wheel so that the hub markings are on the left side of the motorcycle. The left side of the wheel has a machined groove (item 5, Figure 2) in the hub face and hub markings to identify it as the primary bearing side. • These kits include one or two hub plates (43985-00) to install between the brake disc and the wheel and a chrome hub cap (43986-00) to install on the wheel opposite the brake disc side. Hub covers must be installed to prevent water intrusion, which could cause an imbalance condition. Dual brake disc models: Install one stainless steel hub plate (3) between each brake disc and wheel hub. Discard chrome hub cap (2). Install brake discs according to service manual procedures. Single brake disc models: Install one stainless steel hub plate (3) between the brake disc and wheel hub. Install the brake disc according to service manual procedures. Install the chrome hub cap (2) on the side opposite the brake disc. Discard extra stainless steel hub plate (3). • The gross axle weight ratings is unaffected by the installation of this wheel on a vehicle equipped with a 21-inch wheel. For Kits 43975-07, 43773-07, and 43602-07: • The wheel has a machined groove (item 5, Figure 2) in the hub face to identify the right side. • For 2007 and later FX Softail Models and 2008 and later FXDWG: The left side of the wheel is the primary bearing side. For all other models the right side of the wheel is the primary bearing side. • For Kit 43602-07: An arrow is engraved into the right side hub to indicate the direction of rotation. • For Kits 43975-07 and 43773-07: An arrow is cast between the spokes on the right side to indicate the direction of rotation. • These kits include one or two hub plates (43985-00) to install between the brake disc and the wheel and a chrome hub cap (43986-00) to install on the wheel opposite the brake-disc side. Hub covers must be installed to prevent water intrusion, which could cause an imbalance condition. Refer to FRONT WHEEL in Service Manual. 5. For FLSTC and FLSTN Models: Install wheel kit and right side wheel spacer provided in installation kit. For FXSTD Models: Install wheel kit, stock left wheel spacer and right side wheel spacer from installation kit in place of the tapered right side wheel spacer discarded in Step 1. Refer to FRONT WHEEL in service manual. For FXSTS Models: Install the left side wheel spacer provided in the kit between the stock left wheel spacer and the left fork. All other models: Install wheel spacers previously removed. 6. Install front wheel (1), stock axle and stock axle nut. Refer to FRONT WHEEL in service manual

INSTALLATION To prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause death or serious injury, remove maxi-fuse before proceeding. (00251a) 1. Refer to the Service Manual and follow the instructions given to remove the Maxi® Fuse. 2. Refer to the instructions included with the Advanced Audio Hands Free Phone Interface, CB Radio or Intercom Kit, and proceed with that installation until the installation of the items in this kit is called for. 3. Remove the outer fairing and windshield. Refer to OUTER FAIRING/ WINDSHIELD REMOVAL in the Service Manual. 4. On the fairing cap, remove the inner left side hole plug. See Figure 1 and the FAIRING CAP SWITCHES (FLHTC/U) section in the Service Manual. Install the fairing speaker switch (4) in the opening as follows: If a cruise control switch IS present: Follow the instructions in the Service Manual to install the speaker switch. If a cruise control switch IS NOT present: a. Obtain the speaker switch adapter wire (5) from the kit, and the butt splice connector included with the speaker switch. b. Refer to SEALED BUTT SPLICE CONNECTORS in the Service Manual. Splice the adapter wire to the black/ green speaker switch lead. c. Insert the terminated end of the adapter wire into cavity 12 of the fairing cap switch connector [105B] 5. Remove the original equipment left-hand control switch assembly per the HANDLEBAR SWITCHES, REMOVAL, LEFT HANDLEBAR CONTROLS instructions in the Service Manual. 6. Install the new left-hand control switch assembly (3) from the kit. When servicing the fuel system, do not smoke or allow open flame or sparks in the vicinity. Gasoline is extremely flammable and highly explosive, which could result in death or serious injury. (00330a) 7. ALL models: Install the console pod assembly (1), and route the harness forward into the fairing per the instructions packaged with the Advanced Audio Hands Free Phone Interface, CB Radio or Intercom Kit. Be sure that steering is smooth and free without interference. Interference with steering could result in loss of vehicle control and death or serious injury. (00371a) • Be sure the wires do not pull tight when handlebars are turned fully to left or right fork stops. 8. Unless already installed, install the overlay harness per the instructions packaged with the Hands Free Phone Interface, CB Radio or Intercom Kit. 9. Refer to the Service Manual and follow the instructions given to re-install the Maxi Fuse

The actuator spool is installed in the CIU housing with the actuator cable. The actuator spool is rotated to fully extend the cable. 2nd step. The carburettor cable and spool are installed and the other end of the carburettor cable is attached to the carburettors. Note the position of the roll pin. It is nearly contacting the end of the groove in the actuator spool. The free play in the carburettor cable must be adjusted so that the cable outer can be pulled out 2 ~ 3mm before the carburettors start to open. This ensures that the cruise control cannot prevent the carburettors returning to idle. If more free play is allowed the response of the cruise control is compromised. This adjustment of free play is usually performed after final assembly of the CIU is completed and the CIU is in its final location. This is because flexing the cable does effect the free play. It is shown at this stage in these diagrams to improve clarity. After this adjustment is performed, the carburettor cable adjustment MUST NOT BE MOVED. All future adjustments of free play in the throttle must be performed on the throttle cable from the throttle grip. If incorrect free play in this cable is suspected due to inconsistent cruise operation or because of inconsistent idle speed, the adjusters on the throttle cable from the hand grip must be backed all the way off to give as much free play as possible. If this does not result in AT LEAST 5mm of free play in the throttle cable, the throttle cable must be removed from the hand grip or CIU before adjustment of the carburettor cable is attempted. This is crucial because the amount of free play in the throttle cable also effects the apparent free play in the carburettor cable.

REMOVAL 1. Support the motorcycle so the front end is off the floor and the forks are fully extended. 2. Remove the front fender, front brake caliper(s) and front wheel according to instructions found in the Chassis section of the appropriate service manual. NOTE On some models other parts will also need to be removed to access the front forks. See the service manual. 3. For All Models EXCEPT Touring: Drain and remove the front forks. See the service manual. 4. For Touring models equipped with air-adjustable suspension: Bleed the air-adjustable suspension according to the instructions in the appropriate service manual. Wear safety glasses or goggles when servicing fork assembly. Do not remove slider tube caps without relieving spring preload or caps and springs can fly out, which could result in death or serious injury. (00297a) 5. For 2000 and Later Models EXCEPT Touring: See Figure 1. Using a piece of dental floss (or similar material) in a back and forth motion, loosen reflector from fork slider at both ends. Rotate reflector from side-to-side until it can be removed. Save reflector for future use. See Figure 2. Repeat procedure on the opposite side fork slider. Peel off any excess adhesive from both reflectors . Surface must be clean for installation. 6. Disassemble the front fork tubes according to instructions in the service manual. INSTALLATION NOTES The chrome fork sliders included in this kit install in the same manner as the original equipment parts. Refer to the service manual for proper installation procedures. Prior to installation of this kit, check the bores of the new chrome sliders to be certain they are free of dirt and debris or damage to the new sliders may occur. 1. Assemble the front fork tubes, replacing worn seals, bushings or other items as needed. NOTE Do not use an impact wrench to tighten the drain screws. Use of an impact wrench may damage the screws. 2. Tighten the drain screws: •Early Models with 39 mm forks (see Figure 2): Tighten to 13-17 in-lbs (1.5-1.9 Nm) •Early Models with 41 mm forks (see Figure 2): Tighten to 52-78 in-lbs (5.8-8.8 Nm) •Later Models (see Figure 3): Tighten to 52-78 in-lbs (5.8- 8.8 Nm) 3. Fill with TYPE E FORK OIL (99884-80) according to the instructions in the service manual. 4. Install the front fork and any parts that were removed to access the front forks. Install the front fender, wheel and caliper(s) according to instructions in the service manual. 5. For Touring models equipped with air-adjustable suspension: Refill the air-adjustable suspension system after assembly according to the service manual instruc- tions
