installation Instructions 1.) Stock Component Removal To begin installing this kit it is necessary to raise the rear end of the bike using a suitable hoist. Be sure to keep the bike centered on the front wheel to keep the bike from tipping over. Once you have the bike lifted and properly secured, begin with the removal of the following stock components ( For detailed information on the removal of these parts, please consult your factory manual) : 1.) Muffler or mufflers 2.) Left side and lower body panels 3.) Voltage regulator (08 model only) 4.) Front sprocket cover 5.) Front sprocket 6.) Chain 7.) Rear Axel, wheel and brake assembly 8.) Pivot tube and swingarm
2.) New Swingarm Installation A. Most of the pieces needed are installed on the swing-arm. You’ll need to install the shock mount block with the 4 supplied flat head 5/16″bolts, use red loctite and torque to 25 ft lbs. B. Insert the 2 supplied pivot bushings in the pivot tube. Move your new swingarm into position. Once you have the swingarm in position reinsert the pivot tube to hold it in place. C. On some bikes (07′ and earlier Busa’s) it is necessary to grind approximately 1/8″ off the frame for chain clearance. Not all bikes will require this, but it is best to mock up and test fit before final assembly.

INSTALLATION 1. Use rubbing alcohol to clean the swingarm surface, pivot bolt, and nut. 2. Place the larger left-side pivot cover (3) over the pivot nut. Position the set screw (4) at the bottom of the cover. Tighten set screw to 16 in-lbs (1.8 Nm) . 3. Remove adhesive backing from and apply the left-side trimplate to the swingarm. Apply pressure to the trimplate on the swingarm for one minute. 4. Remove adhesive backing from and apply an emblem to the center of the pivot cover. Apply pressure to the emblem for one minute. 5. Repeat Steps 1-4 for the right side of the swingarm. 6. Allow adhesive to cure for 24 hours before operating the vehicle. SERVICE PARTS 4 2 5 3 1 5 6 3 is01811 Figure 1. Recommended Parts and Supplies 1. Sawzall or comparable cutting tool. 2. Cut-off tool or jigsaw. 3. Shop or repair manual 4. Shop supplies, (loctite-red and blue, anti-seize, etc.) 5. Assorted hand tools. 6. 4-1/2″ grinder. 7. Drive pulley seal HD part # 11354K (qty.1) 8. Copper cap locking plate HD part # 35451-01K (qty.1) (The seal and locking plate can be re-used if not damaged during removal) Stock component removal To install the 240 kit, it will be necessary to raise the motorcycle off the ground on a suitable lift. WARNING – Be sure to center the motorcycle on the lift so that it does not fall over when you raise it up or when you are working on it. Installation of the 240 kit begins with the disassembly and removal of the rear end of the bike. Start with the simplest and most obvious components. For detailed information on removal of these parts, consult your factory manual. 1. Remove rear wheel assembly and brake. 2. Remove swingarm. 3. Cut brake tab on swingarm (as pictured). 4 4. Clean up casting mark on inside of swingarm in pulley area (as pictured). 5 5. Remove and replace right side swingarm mount with mount included in kit. 6. Install swingarm with new supplied pivot shaft. 7. Install stock spacer on left side of shaft, use supplied stepped spacer between stock spacer and swingarm. (Small step toward bearing). 8. Remove front pulley, and disassemble. 9. Test fit ½” allen bolts in hub before removal. Some models require drilling for bolts to fit. If necessary, use ½” bit and drill before removing, minimal material will be removed. Take caution not to drill too deep and hit case. 6 10. Install supplied adapter on the back to space pulley out. (Use loctite on bolts, and assemble as pictured).

INSTALLATION Perform this installation when the engine is cool. Working on or near the exhaust system when the engine is hot could result in severe burns. (00311a) NOTE XL Sportster 883 and XL1200R models may require loosening or removal of the rear muffler in order to install the right side rear axle cover. See the EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL section of the Service Manual. 1. Support the vehicle, and loosen or remove the rear muffler if necessary. XL Sportster 883 and XL1200R models: Remove the right-side lower shock absorber mounting bolt. Save for re-installation. All other models: Remove and discard the right-side lower shock absorber mounting bolt. 2. Swing the bottom of the shock absorber out of the way. Position the right-side swingarm axle cover (2) over the swingarm and behind the shock absorber. 3. Reposition the shock absorber. XL Sportster 883 and XL1200R models: Install the shock absorber mounting bolt removed in Step 1. All other models: Install the shoulder bolt (3) from the kit. All models: Tighten the bolt to 45-50 ft-lbs (61-68 Nm) . NOTE When torquing the bolt, align two of the bolt-head flats parallel to the ground. This will allow proper orientation of the bar and shield logo on the bolt cover. 4. Position the bolt cover (4) over the bolt head (3) with the Bar-and-Shield logo oriented upright, and lock in place with the set screw (5). Tighten securely. Reposition and tighten the muffler per the Service Manual instructions. 5. Remove and discard the left-side lower shock absorber mounting bolt. Move the bottom of the shock absorber out of the way. Position the left-side swingarm axle cover (2) over the swingarm and behind the shock absorber. 6. Reposition the shock absorber and install the shoulder bolt from the kit. Tighten to 45-50 ft-lbs (61-68 Nm) , aligning two of the bolt head flats parallel to the ground. 7. Position the bolt cover over the bolt head with the Bar-and- Shield logo oriented upright, and lock in place with the set screw. Tighten securely

1. Disconnect Battery 2. Lift and secure bike 3. Remove brake-side floorboard 4. Remove exhaust. 5. Remove rear fender 6. Remove front pulley cover 7. Remove wheel, pulley, and brake assembly simultaneously. Now remove front pulley from transmission. (Keep up with the stock nut and lock washer; these will be used during assembly) 8. Remove Passenger pegs; now remove the plastic covers in the frame that cover the pivot tube bolts. 9. Remove the stock shock bolts ( keep for re-assembly) 10. Remove the pivot tube bolts. 11. Remove the stock swingarmb12. Install “new” belt at this time. 13. Install supplied pivot tube, and bearings in RC swingarm. 14. Install shock bolt with red loctite in RC swingarm. (Do not tighten bolt at this time) 15. Insert supplied pivot bolts with red loctite through frame and supplied bushings into the RC swingarm. (Right side bushing has flats) 16. Torque shock and pivot bolts to factory specs. 17. Install belt adjustment bolts and single side keys into swingarm.

This kit fits all 2006 and later Dyna model motorcycles. INSTALLATION NOTE Refer to the appropriate Service Manual for detailed information on the following generalized steps. 1. Remove the rear fork. 2. Remove the bearing, spacer and retaining ring from left side pivot bore of the stock swingarm. 3. Install the bearing, spacer and retaining ring removed in the previous step, into the left side pivot bore of the chrome swingarm. 4. • Upgrade Your Pre- 2002 FL Or FXR Rear Fork & Get Rid Of The Crappy & Dangerous (Cleve Blocks) & Replace Them With A Stable System. • R & R your Swing Arm, Belt Drive, Swing Arm Pivot Shaft, and Rear Wheel. The paragraphs below are a photo journey into the replacement of a FL or FXR swing arm. To upgrade the pre 2002 FL, here is a How-To on cheaply replacing the poor parts Harley stuck you with. Now – Let’s Get Er’ Done • Pre- 2002 had weak swing arms and are known to fail. The cleve blocks are the cause of “Rear Steer” or “Rear Fork Deflection”. Harley came up with a patch in 2002, using bearings. Because the pre 2002 transmissions have a 5/8″ mounting hole for the 5/8″ swing arm pivot shaft, a conversion unit has been made. No transmission removal for boring is necessary. Under no circumstances, do I recommend drilling out the transmission case with a hand drill. The drill will “wander” (drift)! • Solution: Go to either a trike shop/manufacturer, e-Bay, or shop and buy a new style swingarm. Harley made an additional upgrade in 2007, try and buy this type 2007 & above). If upgrading to a 2008, Harley use 25mm (smaller than 1″) axles & wheel bearings, you will have to use 25mm bearings. With that said, let’s get on with it. • In the case of a 2007 swingarm; buy and do not pay over $40 for the swing arm and axle. You must use the corresponding axle as a ¾” axle set-up is different (along with wheel bearings & spacers). You positively can not use a pre -2002 HD stock wheel because the wheel bearing spacer will fit into the wheel. Buy 2002 & above style wheels as they (9 spoke) are cheep. • You are going to have to either bore out your stock rear caliper bracket or better still, upgrade your whole rear brake to the new model & sell yours on e-Bay. • I recommend doing the following before hand and have it ready for installation; Remove bearings et al. from the 2002 & later swing arm via press. Bike Work: • Jack up your bike using a center jack. Secure the bike so it will not fall over. You can also use a motorcycle jack. I use a motorcycle dolly

twin-cylinder engines. Dresda was supplied a complete bike, from which the engine was removed and fitted into the Dresda frame. It was during this project that Dave Degens’ forward thinking showed itself once more, when he incorporated monoshock rear suspension, quite an advanced feature for the early 1970s. The Yamaha project would also demonstrate that Dave Degens’ skills extended to engines. The Yamaha twin suffered a persistent internal problem; Degens established the cause and carried out modifications to eliminate it. This work led to a contract for Dresda to follow the fault right through, including visiting the Porsche test centre where development on the engine was being carried out. He oversaw the various modifications, and also developed a further mod to rectify a fault that caused
the cam chain to destroy its tensioner. Whilst at the test centre, Dave became aware that an engine under test was not running correctly, and discovered that the throttle slides were fitted incorrectly. Much to everyone’s amazement, he corrected the throttle setup, and the engine achieved its expected power output. With a successful development frame for Yamaha and the engine work, Dave Degens and Dresda Autos had shown their potential to this important manufacturer. Of course, much of the motorcycling public already knew the worth of Dresda’s work, having seen that almost any engine would benefit from being fitted into a Dresda frame: Triumph, Norton, BSA, Suzuki, Honda,
and Kawasaki units have been used. In addition to its impressive frames, still being built, Dresdan Autos also markets its own swingarm kit, and have always offered a comprehensive modification service. It will modify a frame to take an alternative engine, or convert a dual shock system to monoshock, and carry out other special frame modifcations,
such as adding extra tubes to enhance stiffness

Front air pressure adjustment: 1. Place the motorcycle on its centre stand. Do not use the side stand, or you will get false pressure readings. 2. Remove the front fork air valve cap (1). Check the air pressure. NOTE: Some pressure will be lost when removing the gauge from the valve. Determine the amount of loss and compensate accordingly. 3. Add air to the recommended pressure. NOTE: We recommend that you do not exceed the recommended air pressure or the ride will be harsh and uncomfortable. 4. Reinstall the front fork air valve cap. Rear air pressure adjustment: 1. Place the motorcycle on its centre stand. 2. Do not use the side stand, or you will get false pressure readings. 3. Remove the right side cover. 4. Remove the valve air cap (2). Check the air pressure with an air pressure gauge. NOTE: Some pressure will be lost when removing the gauge from the valve. Determine the amount of loss and compensate accordingly. 5. Always make a pre-ride inspection before you start the engine. You may prevent an accident or equipment damage. 2 Many accidents involve inexperienced riders. Most countries require a special riding test or license. Make sure you are qualified before you ride. NEVER lend your motorcycle to an inexperienced rider. 3 Many car/motorcycle accidents happen because the car driver does not “ see the motorcyclist. Make yourself conspicuous to help avoid the accident that is not your fault: • Wear bright or reflective clothing • Don’t drive in another motorist’s “blind spot” 4 Obey all national, and local laws and regulations Excessive speed is a factor in many accidents. Obey the speed limits am NEVER travel faster than conditions warrant • Signal before you make a turn or lane change. Your size and manoeuvrability can surprise other motorists.5 Don’t let other motorists surprise you. Use extra caution at intersections, parking entrances and exits and driveways. 6 Keep both hands on the handlebars and both feet on the footrests while riding. A passenger should hold onto the motorcycle or the rider with both hands, and keep both feet on the passenger footrests. PROTECTIVE APPAREL
1 Most motorcycle accidents fatalities are due to head impact. ALWAYS wear a helmet. You should also wear a face shield or goggles; boots, gloves, and protective clothing. A passenger needs the same protection. The exhaust system becomes very hot during operation, and it remains hot after operation. Never touch any part of the hot exhaust system. Wear clothing that fully covers your legs.
