In a piston valve, the control of stem and seat leakage is obtained by tightness of the valve sealing rings to the body and valve plug. The bonnet compresses the valve sealing rings against the body and the valve plug. Flexible disc springs automatically assure a tight seal by exerting pressure on the valve sealing rings, keeping them compressed. Opening and Closing the TVS Isolation Valves The isolation valve begins to stop flow when the valve plug enters the lower valve sealing ring. When the isolation valve is completely closed, the valve plug is in contact with the full height of the valve sealing rings, ensuring the best possible seal. In fact, there is no advantage to be gained in torqueing the valve closed. Armstrong recommends that after closing the isolation valves completely, the handwheel should be turned back one half turn. This makes it easy to re-open the valve by avoiding metal to metal seizure. Troubleshooting – Isolation Valves A piston valve will retain its leak tightness for several years without maintenance. In severe service, such as rapid heating and cooling, some field maintenance may be required. Depending on the problem, these simple steps may help: ! ! ! ! ! Isolation Valve leaks, when the valve is closed . First, Check to make sure the valve is actually closed . Check to see if bonnet is seated on the body, if not, tighten the bonnet nuts until the bonnet seats. This recompresses the valve sealing rings against the body and the valve plug. If valve continues to leak, replace the isolation valve assembly

Install the blade swivel (15) onto the front of the push tube (14) using the 1/2″ shoulder bolt (4), two 1/2″ washers (5), and a 3/8″ Nylock nut (3) from the bolt bag per diagram #1. Make sure the flat washers seat properly on the bottom of the shoulder bolt while tightening the nut. Make sure the blade turns freely. 2. Remove the 2 bottom flanged nuts (I) from the u-bolt (D) and 2 from the 3/8″ bolts (H) on the blade position pin assembly (23). Run the 2 top flanged nuts up the threads of the u-bolt. Place the blade position pin assembly on the push tube as shown in the Diagram, sliding the blade position pin through one of the oval holes on the swivel and through the rear blade position pin support bracket on the push tube. 3. Re-install the u-bolt and 3/8″ bolts and flanged nuts per the Diagram. On the u-bolt, thread the bottom nuts up until they are flush with the bottom of the threads then run the top ones down, making sure the bottom nuts remain flush with the bottom of the u-bolt. Tighten all 4 bottom nuts. 4. Remove the two shoulder bolts (18) from the pivot point brackets on the back of the blade (1). Attach the blade to the swivel by sliding the ears on each side of the swivel into the pivot point brackets on the blade, reinstall the two shoulder bolts and Nylock nut (3) and tighten. 5. Hook the blade springs (6) to the two round holes on either side of the 5 oval holes on the swivel. Hook the eyebolts through the other end of the springs, push the eyebolts through the spring attaching points on the back of the blade and install 3/8″ Nylock nuts (3). Starting & Stopping the Engine Always follow the proper starting procedure described below. Your CRF can be started with the transmission in gear by pulling in the clutch lever before operating the kickstarter or start button. Preparation Make sure that the transmission is in neutral. Turn the fuel valve ON. Fuel Valve Starting Procedure Always follow the proper starting procedure described as follow. 5. Warm up the engine; don’t operate the throttle. 6. About 15 seconds after the engine starts, push the choke knob back all the way to fully OFF. If idling is unstable, open the throttle slightly. Extended use of the choke may impair piston and cylinder wall lubrication and damage the engine. HighAirTemperature 35°C (95°F) or above 1. Turn the fuel valve (1) ON. 2. Do not use the choke. 3. Keep the throttle fully closed. 4. Start the engine following step 4 under “Normal Air Temperature.” LowAirTemperature 10°C (50°) or below 1. If the temperature is below 32°F (0°C), open the throttle two or three times. (The engine requires a richer mixture for starting in cold weather. When the throttle is so opened, the accelerator pump will feed extra fuel to the cylinder, thereby facilitating starting in cold weather.) 2. Follow steps 1-5 under “Normal Air Temperature.” 3. Continue warming up the engine until it runs smoothly and responds to the throttle when the choke knob is pushed back all the way to fully OFF. Extended use of the choke may impair piston and cylinder wall lubrication and damage the engine. (cont’d) NOTICE NOTICE Basic Operating Instructions 15 (1) fuel valve The three-way fuel valve is used to control the flow of fuel from the fuel tank to the carburetor. ON -Turning the fuel valve ON before attempting to start the engine allows fuel to flow from the fuel tank to the carburetor. OFF -Turning the fuel valve OFF prevents the flow of fuel from the fuel tank to the carburetor. RES -Turning the fuel valve to RES allows fuel to flow from the reserve fuel supply to the carburetor. (1) fuel valve (2) choke knob Check the engine oil, transmission oil and coolant levels before starting the engine (pages 44,47,48). To restart a warm engine, follow the procedure for”High Air Temperature.” NormalAirTemperature 10°C-35°C (50°F-95°F) 1. Turn the fuel valve (1) ON. 2. Pull the choke knob (2) fully ON, if the engine is cold. 3. Keep the throttle fully closed. 4. Pull the clutch lever all the way in, and depress the start button. Or operate the kickstarter to start the engine. Starting from the top of the stroke, kick through to the bottom with a rapid, continuous motion. Do not operate the throttle. Allowing the kickstarter to snap back freely against the pedal stop can damage the engine

Upon installation of your WEB-CAM camshaft, check the following. These operations are very important to engine
life, please follow instructions! If your cam is described as a bolt-in in the WEB-CAM catalog, you may skip 1-5
below. Check piston to valve clearance. Provide the necessary clearance by removing material from the piston Minimum .050″ intake, .080″ exhaust.1. Check valve to valve clearance. It may be necessary to remove material from the valves or sink valve seat height in head. 2. Check the valve spring retainer to valve guide clearance at maximum lift. Remove material from the top,of valve guides to provide a minimum of .030″ clearance. 3. Check for valve spring coil bind at maximum valve lift. Clearance at every coil should be at least .015″4. Be certain that cam and/or rocker arms rotate
freely in head or block. Remove material from head, block, or rocker arms where necessary.5. Engine and cam life depend on proper installation. New or reground followers should be used when installing WEB-CAM profiles. Apply the provided
assembly lube to cam lobe and follower surfaces
