1. Open or remove seat according to the instructions in the Service Manual. To prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause death or serious injury, disconnect battery cables (negative (-) cable first) before proceeding. (00307a) Disconnect negative (-) battery cable first. If positive (+) cable should contact ground with negative (-) cable connected, the resulting sparks can cause a battery explosion, which could result in death or serious injury. (00049a) 2. Disconnect battery cables, negative (-) cable first. 3. Remove left and right-hand switch housing assemblies. Refer to HANDLEBAR SWITCHES in Service Manual. NOTE It is not necessary to disconnect the switch wiring to replace the switch caps. 4. Remove individual switches from switch housing. Refer to SWITCH REPAIR/REPLACEMENT in Service Manual. INSTALLATION Upper Housing Switches 1. For HORN and START switch caps, release torsion spring leg from hole in switch cap tab. Take note of how the spring is installed. The other leg of the spring can remain in the switch bracket hole. 2. See Figure 1 and Figure 5. NOTE Use the clear protective cover film to protect the chrome surface of the switch caps during installation. Remove the film after the installation is complete. 4. See Figure 5. Select proper chrome replacement switch cap from kit. 5. See Figure 1. Place cap onto switch, angling the hole on right side over pivot pin (4) on switch. 6. Carefully press switch cap down onto splined actuator shaft (5), rocking and moving the cap until shaft snaps into place in splined hole. 7. For HORN and START switch caps, insert torsion spring leg into hole in switch cap tab. 8. Toggle switch back and forth, checking for proper opera- tion. Turn Signal Switches 1. See Figure 1 and Figure 5. Carefully pry stock black switch cap up off the splined actuator shaft (2) on switch. 2. Pry the switch cap up and away from pivot pin (3) on switch, and remove cap. 3. Select proper chrome replacement switch cap from kit. Peel a clear protective installation cover from the sheet and place it over the surface of the cap. 4. See Figure 1. Place cap onto switch, angling the hole on top over pivot pin (4) on switch. 5. Carefully press switch cap onto splined actuator shaft (5), rocking and moving the cap until shaft snaps into place in splined hole. 6. Toggle switch back and forth, checking for proper opera- tion.

The clutch lever is pulled to the handlebar (the clutch switch is closed) and the side- stand is up (the sidestand switch is closed). The starting circuit cut-off relay prevents the starter motor from operating when neither of these conditions has been met. In this instance, the starting circuit cut-off relay is open so current cannot reach the starter motor. When at least one of the above conditions has been met the starting circuit cut-off relay is closed and the engine can be started by pressing the starter switch. WHEN THE TRANSMISSION IS IN NEUTRAL WHEN THE SIDESTAND IS UP AND THE CLUTCH LEVER IS PULLED TO THE HANDLEBAR 4. INSTALLATION ■ Outline Procedures This section gives general information needed for mounting the individual radio components on and in the fairing. A) Fairing 1) Install radio on fairing before mounting fairing on motorcycle. (Remove fairing from your motorcycle when already mounted). 2) Remove fairing parts. 3) Drill unit mount holes. 4) Install six wire clips. 5) Install windshield on fairing before install- ing speakers. 6) Install radio indicator I on indicator panel II , then install indicator panel on fairing. 7) Install speakers III. 8) Install nutplate IV. 9) Install Power Amplifier in fairing. 10) Install radio funer VI. 11) Install the radio controller VII. 12) Install controller base panel VIII 13) Install radio switch sub-wire. 14) Connect adapter harness and wires inside fairing by working through left turn signal lens hole. B) Motorcycle frame and handlebar 1) Remove travel trunk and seat. Unscrew four shelter bolts (M6, one on each side at front and rear) to route antenna feeder. 2) Install antenna mount and antenna IX. 3) Route antenna feeder along the frame tube. 4) Install radio switch X on left handlebar lever bracket and route the wires. 3 of 11 Page 4 C) Fairing instllation 1) Install fairing on motorcycle. 2) Connect motorcycle wire harness 9-P coupler to fairing wire 9-P coupler. 3) Connect radio switch wire to switch sub- wire.4) Connect antenna feeder. 5) Confirm that radio operates properly. Reinstall parts removed in step 2 or (A) and in step 1 of (B). REWORKING ■ Remove Fairing and Fairing Parts (Fig.10) 1) Install radio on fairing before mounting fairing on motorcycle. (Remove fairing from your motorcycle when already mounted). 2) Remove right and left fairing pockets, right and left turn signal lenses, right and left nutplates, left hole cover and indi- cator base panel from fairing. (Fig.10) Fig. 10 LEI-1 NU I PLATE 4 of 11■ Reworking on Fairing — Speaker mounting holes- 1) Remove 18 mm grommet. 2) Lightly roll template so that it will follow contour of fairing snugly. 3) Position template on fairing with its upper and outer edges aligned with those offairing as indicated by arrows. 4) Attach template to fairing using adhesive tape where shown. 5) Punch mark centers of four holes with a
drift and hammer. 6) Drill 6 mm holes through marked centers. To obtain a more balanced response with richer, deeper bases, drill two 50 mm holes in the fairing so as to link the speaker box with the inside of the fairing. Fig. 11-1

Remove existing front wheel assembly. Save axle, axle nut, brake disc, and wheel spacers for kit installation. Refer to FRONT WHEEL in service manual. For FLSTC and FLSTN Models: Discard moon-style hub cap. -J04065 1 of 8 For FXSTD Models: Discard the tapered r ight side wheel spacer. Do not re-use brake disc/rotor screws. Re-using these screws can result in torque loss and damage to brake components. (00319c) NOTE • For Kits 43573-08, 43575-08, 43703-08, 43978-07, 43771- 07, 43609-07, 44323-07, 44282-07, 44322-07, 43975-07, 43602-07 and 43773-07 install short valve stem (43157- 83A) included in the installation kit. • For Kits 40943-09, 40966-09 and 40996-09 install long valve stem (43206-01) included in the installation kit. 2. See Figure 2. Install valve stem assembly (L, M or N) on wheel. Refer to TIRES in service manual. 3. Assemble wheel installation kit components and brake disc(s) to wheel, using the appropriate service parts table. Refer to FRONT WHEEL in Service Manual. NOTES Install the primary bearing first using appropriate service manual and WHEEL BEARING REMOVER/INSTALLER. For Kits 43573-08, 43575-08, 43703-08, 43978-07, 43771-07, 43609-07, 40943-09, 40966-09 and 40996-09: • The left side of the wheel has a machined groove (item 5, Figure 2) in the hub face and/or DOT markings to identify it as the brake disc and primary bearing side. • Install the wheel so that the valve stem is on the right side of the motorcycle. For Kits 44323-07, 44322-07 and 44282-07: • Install the wheel so that the hub markings are on the left side of the motorcycle. The left side of the wheel has a machined groove (item 5, Figure 2) in the hub face and hub markings to identify it as the primary bearing side. • These kits include one or two hub plates (43985-00) to install between the brake disc and the wheel and a chrome hub cap (43986-00) to install on the wheel opposite the brake disc side. Hub covers must be installed to prevent water intrusion, which could cause an imbalance condition. Dual brake disc models: Install one stainless steel hub plate (3) between each brake disc and wheel hub. Discard chrome hub cap (2). Install brake discs according to service manual procedures. Single brake disc models: Install one stainless steel hub plate (3) between the brake disc and wheel hub. Install the brake disc according to service manual procedures. Install the chrome hub cap (2) on the side opposite the brake disc. Discard extra stainless steel hub plate (3). • The gross axle weight ratings is unaffected by the installation of this wheel on a vehicle equipped with a 21-inch wheel. For Kits 43975-07, 43773-07, and 43602-07: • The wheel has a machined groove (item 5, Figure 2) in the hub face to identify the right side. • For 2007 and later FX Softail Models and 2008 and later FXDWG: The left side of the wheel is the primary bearing side. For all other models the right side of the wheel is the primary bearing side. • For Kit 43602-07: An arrow is engraved into the right side hub to indicate the direction of rotation. • For Kits 43975-07 and 43773-07: An arrow is cast between the spokes on the right side to indicate the direction of rotation. • These kits include one or two hub plates (43985-00) to install between the brake disc and the wheel and a chrome hub cap (43986-00) to install on the wheel opposite the brake-disc side. Hub covers must be installed to prevent water intrusion, which could cause an imbalance condition. Dual brake disc models: Install one stainless steel hub plate (3) between each brake disc and wheel hub. Discard chrome hub cap (2). Install brake discs according to service manual procedures. For FXSTD Models: Install wheel kit, stock left wheel spacer and right side wheel spacer from installation kit in place of the tapered right side wheel spacer discarded in Step 1. Refer to FRONT WHEEL in service manual. For FXSTS Models: Install the left side wheel spacer provided in the kit between the stock left wheel spacer and the left fork. VRSC models: See Figure 3. Place the wire harness from the kit into the area in front of the battery. Do not block the air intake opening. All models except VRSC and 2004 and later XL models: See Figure 4. Install the wire harness from the kit. Place the relay in the opening of the frame under the seat area, and route the long leg of the harness forward along the frame backbone. 2004 and later XL models: See Figure 5. Remove the nuts retaining the ignition module (1) and temporarily reposition the module as shown. Place the relay in the recessed area (2) of the oil reservoir. Install the ignition module. All 2004 and later models, except VRSC: Connect the white wire with connector to the B+ connector on the harness. All VRSC: Connect the white power lead to the battery positive terminal. 7. See Service Part illustration. Connect the black ground wires with the two ring terminals to the ground stud under the seat, or at any good electrical ground point. Secure the kit harness to the adjacent harnesses with cable straps (item 6) from the kit. When routing wires through the front fork, make sure the wires are clear of moving parts, to avoid pinching and possible short circuits. 8. Route the forward end of the harness past the steering head, and route the lamp switch leg of the harness along the left side of the handlebar to the clutch control. 9. See the Service Parts illustration. Obtain the switch mounting bracket (item 11) from the kit. Unscrew the boot from the lamp switch, and install the switch into the bracket. Replace the boot on the switch. NOTE If the boot becomes worn or damaged, or is lost, replace the boot to prevent moisture from entering the switch. See the Service Parts illustration (Item 12). 10. See Figure 6. Remove the lower screw (1) and washer from the clutch control clamp (3), and install the lamp switch and bracket assembly (2). Install the screw and washer and tighten to 60-80 in-lbs (7-9 Nm). 11. See the Service Parts illustration. Secure the lamp switch leg of the harness to the handlebar using the wire harness retainers already on the bike. Snap the retainers into the holes in the handlebar. 12. Remove the headlamp assembly. Step 1) Wire Connection: Using 18-gauge automotive wire, connect the audio alert relay as shown in the Wiring Diagram – Figure 1. • Connect the supplied wire from #3 terminal on the audio alert relay to the oil pressure switch post. Note: The supplied wire is not reversible. The eyelet end must hook to the oil pressure switch. • Connect a wire from #2 terminal on the audio alert relay to the ignition switch post that receives power when the ignition switch is first turned on. • Connect a wire from #1 terminal on relay to the positive side of existing horn, or alternate sound device. • Note: The audio alert relay uses the oil pressure switch as its ground. On most motorcycles, this audio alert relay can be installed easily under the dash. Figure 1- Wiring Diagram Cot a Oil Pressure Switch Ignition Switch Audio Alert Relay 2 1 3 load Horn + + – Caution: Make sure all connections are insulated away from potential grounds. Do not disconnect any existing wire. Step 2) Testing : Turn ignition switch on and ensure oil pressure light is on. Leave ignition switch on. Wait 30 sec (T1) and ensure the audio alarm sounds for ½ second (T2). If the electrical test is successful, proceed to Step 3. If not, you may have to use a pezio alert in place of the horn. (Which is available at most Radio Shack stores.) If audio alert still doesn’t work, consult the wiring diagram and recheck all wiring connections. Verify timer set points have not been altered. If problems persist, contact us at (518) 884-9591. Step 3) Mount relay switch: Use standard zip ties (not provided) or similar means to mount the relay to dash mount post or dash base. Note: The timer relay can be mounted almost anywhere on the bike that will not be exposed to direct rain or weather

INSTALLATION To prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause death or serious injury, remove maxi-fuse before proceeding. (00251a) 1. Refer to the Service Manual and follow the instructions given to remove the Maxi® Fuse. 2. Refer to the instructions included with the Advanced Audio Hands Free Phone Interface, CB Radio or Intercom Kit, and proceed with that installation until the installation of the items in this kit is called for. 3. Remove the outer fairing and windshield. Refer to OUTER FAIRING/ WINDSHIELD REMOVAL in the Service Manual. 4. On the fairing cap, remove the inner left side hole plug. See Figure 1 and the FAIRING CAP SWITCHES (FLHTC/U) section in the Service Manual. Install the fairing speaker switch (4) in the opening as follows: If a cruise control switch IS present: Follow the instructions in the Service Manual to install the speaker switch. If a cruise control switch IS NOT present: a. Obtain the speaker switch adapter wire (5) from the kit, and the butt splice connector included with the speaker switch. b. Refer to SEALED BUTT SPLICE CONNECTORS in the Service Manual. Splice the adapter wire to the black/ green speaker switch lead. c. Insert the terminated end of the adapter wire into cavity 12 of the fairing cap switch connector [105B] 5. Remove the original equipment left-hand control switch assembly per the HANDLEBAR SWITCHES, REMOVAL, LEFT HANDLEBAR CONTROLS instructions in the Service Manual. 6. Install the new left-hand control switch assembly (3) from the kit. When servicing the fuel system, do not smoke or allow open flame or sparks in the vicinity. Gasoline is extremely flammable and highly explosive, which could result in death or serious injury. (00330a) 7. ALL models: Install the console pod assembly (1), and route the harness forward into the fairing per the instructions packaged with the Advanced Audio Hands Free Phone Interface, CB Radio or Intercom Kit. Be sure that steering is smooth and free without interference. Interference with steering could result in loss of vehicle control and death or serious injury. (00371a) • Be sure the wires do not pull tight when handlebars are turned fully to left or right fork stops. 8. Unless already installed, install the overlay harness per the instructions packaged with the Hands Free Phone Interface, CB Radio or Intercom Kit. 9. Refer to the Service Manual and follow the instructions given to re-install the Maxi Fuse
