STOCK EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL 1. Loosen the heat shield clamps on both the front and rear exhaust pipes. This allows easier access to the head pipe mounting nuts. 2. Remove the two head pipe mounting nuts from each flange, located at the cylinder head. 3. Remove the two bolts from each muffler body which attach the muffler bodies to the mounting bar. 4. Tools required for installation: 3/16″ & 5/16″ Allen wrenches 3/16″ & 5/16″ Allen & 1/2″ sockets 3/8″ Ratchet & Extensions T30 Torx driver 1/2″ Wrench 5/16″ nutdriver/flat blade screwdriver Ft/lb. & In/lb. Torque wrenches Snapring pliers pipe to the belt drive cover bracket and carefully remove both exhaust pipes from the motorcycle. 5. Remove the drive belt cover and take the bracket off the rear cover bolt, it will not be re-used. 6. Loosen the brake rod at the rear eyelet using a T30 Torx driver. 7. Remove the exhaust mounting bar, saving the three mount bolts and washers for re-use. 8. Using snapring pliers, carefully remove the flanges and circlips from the stock exhaust system. Save for re-use. NOTE: If circlips look bent or twisted replace them with new circlips. VANCE & HINES EXHAUST SYSTEM INSTALLATION 1. Check condition of stock exhaust gaskets. Replace if damaged or worn. Vance & Hines recommends you replace your gaskets with Screamin’ Eagle gaskets part number 17048-98. 2. Install and tighten supplied mounting bracket (stamped 356-P) using stock bolts and washers (Figure 1). Torque to 30-33 Ft/Lbs. NOTE: Support the rear of the bracket during tightening to insure it is aligned with the bottom edge of the frame. 3. Re-install drive belt cover. Torque to 1 x 3/8″ bolt 30-33 Ft/Lbs. 2 x 1/4″ bolts 80-120 In/Lbs. 4. Re-install brake rod eyelet using blue thread locking compound (Loctite® 243). There is a 1/2″ clearance hole in the bracket to allow access for tightening brake rod eyelet. Torque to 120/180 In/Lbs. (Figure 1). 5. Remove header pipes and heat shields from protective packaging. Place each heat shield on a non-abrasive surface such as a blanket or carpet. Using a felt tip pen, mark outside edge of each heat shield to show location of mounting clips where hose clamps will loop through (Figure 2). 6. Install circlips and flanges from the stock system onto both new head pipes.

1. Install the bracket (Stamped 439-P, supplied) to the motorcycle chassis using the 10 x 20mm hex head bolt (supplied) and two of the stock mount bolts in the bottom holes (Figure 3). 2. Remove exhaust system and heat shields from protective packaging and place them on a non-abrasive surface such as a blanket or carpet. Using a non-permanent marker or tape, mark outside edge of each heat shield to show location of mounting clips that the hose clamps will loop through (Figure 4). 3. Apply a small amount of anti-seize compound to the threads of the stock O2 sensor and install it into the header assembly. NOTE: Be careful not to overtighten or get anti-seize compound on the sensor tip as this could damage or affect the sensor function. 4. Carefully lay header assembly into the heat shields and loosely install the hose clamps #20 on head pipe heat shields and #24 on collector heat shield (supplied) by feeding the tail end of the clamp into the heat shield clips. Take note of screw head direction (Figure 5), for adjustment purposes they must be accessible when system is installed. NOTE: Do not tighten the clamps at this time. 5. Using stock dome nuts, carefully install system into exhaust ports. (Assistance may be required). NOTE: Install but do not tighten the exhaust nuts at this time. 6. Remove the muffl er heat shield and baffl e assembly from their protective packaging. Place them on a non-abrasive surface such as a blanket or carpet. 7. Insert the large hose clamp (#56, supplied) into the clip on the muffl er heat shield. 8. Carefully slide the baffl e assembly (without damaging the fi berglass packing) into the muffl er heat shield and align the holes in the heatshield with those in the baffl e. Secure the baffl e with the 1/4-20 x 1/2″ button head screws (supplied) and tighten the hose clamp. 9. Install the 5/16″ x 1 1/4″ hex head bolt, washers and locknut (supplied) in the muffl er clamp (supplied) and slip the clamp over the end of the baffl e tube. 10. Slide nut plate (supplied) inside the bracket welded to backside of baffl e (Figure 6). 11. Install the muffl er assembly onto the collector, making sure it slides forward enough to align the edge of the bracket welded to the baffl e with the edge of the mounting bracket. 12. Attach the muffl er assembly to the mounting bracket using the 5/16″ x 5/8″ fl ange head bolts (supplied). 13. Tighten exhaust port nuts evenly on both cylinders. 14. Tighten the muffl er clamp and the 5/16″ fl ange head bolts, securing the muffl er assembly. 15. Insert the O2 sensor plug back into harness and tuck harness back into its original position. Reinstall the cover. 16. Check alignment of heat shields making sure the ends meet squarely to the collector heat shield. Tighten the hose clamps on all the heat shields when properly aligned. 17. Reinstall right side passenger and rider fl oorboards and tighten the 12mm bolts. 18. Check for adequate clearance between all exhaust system components and motorcycle accessories prone to heat damage. 19. All hardware must be properly tightened and the exhaust pipes thoroughly clean before starting motorcycle

INSTALLATION Remove Original Equipment (OE) Heat Shields Avoid contact with exhaust system and wear protective clothing that completely covers legs while riding. Exhaust pipes and mufflers get very hot when engine is running and remain too hot to touch, even after engine is turned off. Failure to wear protective clothing could result in burns or other serious injury. (00009a) 1. Allow the motorcycle to cool. 2. Identify the position of the OE clamp screws securing the black heat shields to the exhaust pipes. NOTE The clamp screws are positioned on either side of the exhaust pipe for clearance. 3. See Figure 1. Open the heat shield clamps (1) and spread the bands to remove front and rear heat shields (2) from the exhausts. Retain the heat shield clamps Install Black Heat Shields 1. See Figure 2. Matching the OE position of the heat shield clamps, open the clamps bands and thread the bands through the brackets of the front (1) and rear (2) black heat shields. 2. Spread the band around the exhaust pipes and push the end of the bands to engage the clamp screws. Tighten to hold the heat shields in place. 3. Adjust the shields and heat shield clamps to access clamp screws and to avoid contact with other components. 4. Tighten the heat shield clamp screws

Remove existing front wheel assembly. Save axle, axle nut, brake disc, and wheel spacers for kit installation. Refer to FRONT WHEEL in service manual. For FLSTC and FLSTN Models: Discard moon-style hub cap. -J04065 1 of 8 For FXSTD Models: Discard the tapered r ight side wheel spacer. Do not re-use brake disc/rotor screws. Re-using these screws can result in torque loss and damage to brake components. (00319c) NOTE • For Kits 43573-08, 43575-08, 43703-08, 43978-07, 43771- 07, 43609-07, 44323-07, 44282-07, 44322-07, 43975-07, 43602-07 and 43773-07 install short valve stem (43157- 83A) included in the installation kit. • For Kits 40943-09, 40966-09 and 40996-09 install long valve stem (43206-01) included in the installation kit. 2. See Figure 2. Install valve stem assembly (L, M or N) on wheel. Refer to TIRES in service manual. 3. Assemble wheel installation kit components and brake disc(s) to wheel, using the appropriate service parts table. Refer to FRONT WHEEL in Service Manual. NOTES Install the primary bearing first using appropriate service manual and WHEEL BEARING REMOVER/INSTALLER. For Kits 43573-08, 43575-08, 43703-08, 43978-07, 43771-07, 43609-07, 40943-09, 40966-09 and 40996-09: • The left side of the wheel has a machined groove (item 5, Figure 2) in the hub face and/or DOT markings to identify it as the brake disc and primary bearing side. • Install the wheel so that the valve stem is on the right side of the motorcycle. For Kits 44323-07, 44322-07 and 44282-07: • Install the wheel so that the hub markings are on the left side of the motorcycle. The left side of the wheel has a machined groove (item 5, Figure 2) in the hub face and hub markings to identify it as the primary bearing side. • These kits include one or two hub plates (43985-00) to install between the brake disc and the wheel and a chrome hub cap (43986-00) to install on the wheel opposite the brake disc side. Hub covers must be installed to prevent water intrusion, which could cause an imbalance condition. Dual brake disc models: Install one stainless steel hub plate (3) between each brake disc and wheel hub. Discard chrome hub cap (2). Install brake discs according to service manual procedures. Single brake disc models: Install one stainless steel hub plate (3) between the brake disc and wheel hub. Install the brake disc according to service manual procedures. Install the chrome hub cap (2) on the side opposite the brake disc. Discard extra stainless steel hub plate (3). • The gross axle weight ratings is unaffected by the installation of this wheel on a vehicle equipped with a 21-inch wheel. For Kits 43975-07, 43773-07, and 43602-07: • The wheel has a machined groove (item 5, Figure 2) in the hub face to identify the right side. • For 2007 and later FX Softail Models and 2008 and later FXDWG: The left side of the wheel is the primary bearing side. For all other models the right side of the wheel is the primary bearing side. • For Kit 43602-07: An arrow is engraved into the right side hub to indicate the direction of rotation. • For Kits 43975-07 and 43773-07: An arrow is cast between the spokes on the right side to indicate the direction of rotation. • These kits include one or two hub plates (43985-00) to install between the brake disc and the wheel and a chrome hub cap (43986-00) to install on the wheel opposite the brake-disc side. Hub covers must be installed to prevent water intrusion, which could cause an imbalance condition. Dual brake disc models: Install one stainless steel hub plate (3) between each brake disc and wheel hub. Discard chrome hub cap (2). Install brake discs according to service manual procedures. Install wheel assembly parts from the appropriate Service Parts table for this fitment and stock brake disc. Discard parts from the installation kit that are not required. Refer to FRONT WHEEL in Service Manual. 5. For FLSTC and FLSTN Models: Install wheel kit and right side wheel spacer provided in installation kit. For FXSTD Models: Install wheel kit, stock left wheel spacer and right side wheel spacer from installation kit in place of the tapered right side wheel spacer discarded in Step 1. Refer to FRONT WHEEL in service manual. For FXSTS Models: Install the left side wheel spacer provided in the kit between the stock left wheel spacer and the left fork. All other models: Install wheel spacers previously removed. 6. Install front wheel (1), stock axle and stock axle nut. Refer to FRONT WHEEL in service manual

Remove the nut that mounts the front muffler to the engine, located below the rear brake master cylinder. 4. Remove the bolt that mounts the rear muffler to the mounting bar. 5. Remove the entire exhaust system and set it aside. 6. Carefully remove the flanges and circlips from the stock exhaust system using snapring pliers. Note: If circlips look bent or twisted replace them with new circlips . INSTALLING YOUR NEW VANCE & HINES EXHAUST SYSTEM 1. Vance and Hines recommends you replace your exhaust gaskets with Sceamin’ Eagle gaskets part number 17048-98. 2. Install the circlips and flanges from the stock system on to both of the new head pipes. 3. Unscrew all of the hose clamps (supplied) until they are completely loose. Mark the top edge of both heat shields with the location of the mounting clips that are welded to the backside. Position the front heat shield over the head pipe and feed the tail end of the hose clamps into the clips. Be sure that each hose clamp is engaged with both clips. Repeat this step with the rear heat shield. Note: The screw end of the hose clamp should be accessible, but not visible when pipe is mounted on the bike. 4. Install the front head pipe using the stock nuts, do not tighten at this time. 5. Install the rear head pipe using the stock nuts, do not tighten at this time. 6. Install one muffler clamp (supplied) over the inlet (notched end) of each muffler. 7. Identify the front and rear muffler mounting brackets. The front bracket is stamped with the number 305 and the rear muffler bracket is stamped 213 . 8. Install the front muffler mounting bracket to the stud on the engine (where the stock muffler mounted) and fasten using the stock nut (leave loose at this time). The bracket will bend inward towards the center of the motorcycle when installed correctly. Note: You may need to move the wires and hoses on the lower frame rail to decrease the possibility of them chaffing on the bracket bolts. 9. Slip one of the mufflers onto the front head pipe. Slide one dog bone shaped nut plate (supplied) under the bracket that is welded to the backside of the muffler. Attach the muffler to the mounting bracket using the 5/16″ flange head bolts (supplied) leave them loose at this time. 10. Attach the rear mounting bracket to the rear muffler. Slide one dog bone shaped nut plate (supplied) under the bracket that is welded to the backside of the muffler. Attach the bracket to the muffler using two of the 5/16″ flange head bolts (supplied), leave them loose at this time. Note: The single hole in the bracket will point downward and slightly forward when installed correctly

REMOVING THE STOCK EXHAUST SYSTEM 1. Remove the two header flange nuts from the front and rear head pipes. 2. Remove the acorn nut located under the rear muffler. 3. Remove the two allen bolts located under the front muffler. 4. Remove the stock exhaust system from the motorcycle and set it aside. 5. Remove the two hex head bolts that attach the stock muffler mounting bracket to the frame of the motorcycle. Remove the muffler bracket and set it aside. 6. Remove the two rubber grommets and spacers from the stock muffler and the one grommet and spacer from the muffler mounting bracket. Set them aside with the the two mounting bolts, they will be reused during installation. INSTALLING YOUR NEW VANCE & HINES EXHAUST SYSTEM 1. Check the stock exhaust gaskets to be sure they are in good shape. If you have any doubts as to their condition, replace them. 2. Install a chrome header flange onto the front and rear head pipes. 3. Install the heat shield to the front head pipe using the two hose clamps (supplied). Unscrew all of the hose clamps (supplied) until they are completely loose. Feed the tail end of the hose clamp into the clips on the inside of both heat shields. Place the front head pipe into the heat shield, wrap the hose clamp around the head pipe and give the screw three to four turns, leaving heat shield loose on the head pipe. Repeat this step with the heat shield on the rear head pipe. Note : The screw end of the hose clamp should be accessible, but not visible when pipe is mounted on the bike. 4. Install the front head pipe with the heat shield attached, to the front cylinder using the stock nuts. Leave them loose at this time. 5. Install the rear head pipe, with the heat shield attached, to the rear cylinder using the stock nuts. Leave them loose at this time. 6. Install the stock rubbber grommets and spacers into the three large holes on the V&H mounting bar (See figure 1). 7. Slide one dog bone shaped nut plate under the bracket that is welded to each muffler. 8. Slide a chrome muffler clamp (supplied) onto the inlet end of each muffler. Install a 5/16″ x 1 1/4″ bolt with a flat washer on either side of the clamp followed by a lock nut (hardware supplied). Do this to each muffler but leave the clamp loose at this time. 9. Install one muffler to the four hole bracket welded to the V&H mounting bar using the two 5/16″ flange bolts (supplied) and leave them loose. (See figure 1) 10. Slip the muffler and mounting bar assembly onto the front head pipe while aligning the grommet holes in the mounting bar with the holes in the frame.

EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE BEGINNING 1. Under the oil tank on the right hand side, locate the rear O² sensor connector. Unplug sensor and feed the end of wire through the frame freeing it from motorcycle. NOTE: Pay attention to wire routing for re-installation. 2. Open the plastic cover above the rectifier on front of the frame to access to the front O² sensor connector. Unplug sensor from harness. Remove ZIPSTRIP holding wire to frame and feed the wire through freeing it from motorcycle. 3. On floorboard equipped models, loosen the right hand floorboard mounting bolts to gain clearance for exhaust removal and installation. 4. Loosen the heat shield clamps on both front and rear exhaust pipes. 5. Remove the mounting nuts from each head pipe, located at the cylinder head. 6. Remove the nuts attaching the exhaust mount bracket to the frame. 7. On FLSTD and FLSTF models, you will need to remove the right side passenger foot peg and hanger, as this is attached to the exhaust mount bracket. Replace the passenger foot peg assembly using the BOLT 14 Allen bolt (supplied). 8. Remove the entire exhaust system and set it aside. 9. Remove the two lower mounting studs from the frame See figure 1 . Recommended replacement exhaust port gaskets, H-D P/N: 65324-83A. 10. Carefully remove exhaust port flanges and circlips from the stock exhaust system using snapring pliers. See figure 2 . NOTE: Replace bent or damaged circlips. Check exhaust port gasket condition. 11. Remove O² sensors from stock head pipe and set aside for re-installation on your new RUSH exhaust system. PAGE 1 OF 4 RUSH RACING PRODUCTS EXHAUST SYSTEM INSTALLATION P/N 7020 – 7120 BEFORE INSTALLATION PLEASE READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS 1. Remove header and heat shields from protective packaging. Place each heat shield on a non-abrasive surface such as a blanket or carpet. Using a felt tip pen, mark outside edge of each heat shield to show location of mounting clips that hose clamps will loop through See figure 3. 2. REMOVING THE STOCK EXHAUST SYSTEM 1. Loosen the heat shield clamps on both front and rear exhaust pipes. 2. Remove the two mounting nuts from each head pipe, located at the cylinder head. 3. Remove the nut that mounts the front muffler to the engine, located below the rear brake pedal. 4. Remove the bolt that mounts the rear muffler to the mounting bar. 5. Remove the entire exhaust system and set it aside. 6. Carefully remove the flanges and circlips from the stock exhaust system using snapring pliers. Note : If circlips look bent or twisted replace them with new circlips. INSTALLING YOUR NEW VANCE & HINES EXHAUST SYSTEM 1. Remove the acorn nut that mounts the top of the right rear shock to the frame. 2. Install the large angle cut end of the new mounting bar to the shock bolt (with the shock in place). Replace the acorn nut but leave it loose at this time. Note : Check the clearance between the mounting bar and the shock. Space the mounting bar out with a washer (not supplied) if needed. 3. Install the circlips and flanges from the stock system onto both of the new head pipes. 4. Check the stock exhaust gaskets to be sure they are in good shape. If you have any doubts as to their condition, replace them. 5. Install new header using the stock nuts and tighten them evenly. 6. Slide the tailpipe of the new exhaust system over the collector of the front header. 7. Install two of the exhaust springs (supplied) between the collector and the tailpipe using the spring puller tool (supplied). 8. Slip the silencer over the tailpipe while aligning the hole in the mounting bar with the hole on the top of the muffler, with the muffler positioned to the outside of the mounting bar. 9. Install the bolt, washers and lock nut (all supplied) through the muffler and mounting bar. 10. Install the two exhaust springs over the tabs on the muffler and tailpipe using the spring puller tool. 11. Tighten the acorn nut on the top of the right rear shock. 12. Be sure to tighten all hardware before starting your motorcycle. 13. Important: Check to be sure that there is adequate clearance between the head pipe and the rear

STOCK EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL (DESTROYER) 1. Remove both collector bolts. 2. Remove nuts from both front and rear exhaust cylinder head flanges using a 13mm socket. 3. If the Racepak is installed, remove both O2 and EGT sensors from the front and rear head pipes. 4. Carefully remove complete exhaust from the motorcycle. STOCK EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL (V-ROD) 5. Loosen clamp bolt at front of the collector using a 13mm socket. 6. Remove muffler bracket bolt using a 13mm wrench. 7. Carefully remove muffler and collector assembly from motorcycle. 8. Remove nuts from both front and rear exhaust cylinder head flanges using a 13mm socket. 9. Carefully remove head pipes from motorcycle. 10. Remove the stock exhaust flanges and circlips from both the front and rear head pipes. If the circlips are bent or twisted they should be replaced, Harley-Davidson part number #65045-01 We also recommend replacing the stock exhaust gaskets, Harley-Davidson part number #65109-01 INDY SERIES EXHAUST SYSTEM INSTALLATION 1. Identify front head pipe #7-8002. Install the stock flange and circlip. Install the exhaust gasket and front header pipe, leaving the flange nuts hand tight. 2. Repeat the above step for the rear head pipe #7-8006. 3. Slip the megaphone/collector assembly onto the head pipes, secure with the four springs supplied using the spring puller tool. 4. Rotate the exhaust so there is adequate clearance in all places. 5. Tighten the cylinder head flange nuts for both the front and rear head pipes. 6. Tighten both the EGT and O2 plugs on the front and rear head pipes. 7. Clean all fingerprints from the exhaust using a contact cleaner (or other non flammable cleaner). Fingerprints will leave stains on the pipe once the motorcycle is started. 8. You are now ready to start the motorcycle.

Remove mufflers. 5. Remove the two nuts that secure the rear exhaust header pipe to the rear cylinder head. 6. Remove rear exhaust pipe assembly. 7. Remove the two nuts that secure the front exhaust header pipe to the front cylinder head. 8. Remove front exhaust pipe assembly. 9. Remove exhaust-mounting bracket from frame. Hard-Krome Exhaust System Installation NOTE: Take care when fitting this Hard-Krome aftermarket exhaust system on your motorcycle. It has been designed to replace a STOCK exhaust system on a motorcycle with its engine, frame and other components in their STOCK design, configuration and location. WARNING : Re-check and re-tighten ALL fasteners and supports after 50 miles, then re-check and tighten as necessary on a periodic basis to ensure proper operation and performance. NOTE: All fasteners should be loose during initial installation to ensure proper fit and location of the new exhaust system.
1. Install new exhaust gaskets. 2. Install mounting bracket using Bolts with flat & lock washers. (See Illustration) 3. Install Front exhaust header pipe, taking care to not scratch chrome surfaces on pipe, engine or motorcycle — use masking tape as needed. 4. Install the two nuts to secure the flange that holds the exhaust header pipe to the front cylinder head — DO NOT TIGHTEN NUTS! 5. Install nut strip into slotted bracket of front pipe and start the 3/8-16×3/4″ Bolt with flat & lock washer through backside of mounting bracket. — DO NOT TIGHTEN BOLTS! 6. Carefully install rear pipe. 7. Install the two nuts to secure the flange that holds the exhaust header pipe to the rear cylinder head — DO NOT TIGHTEN NUTS! 8. Install nut strip into slotted bracket of rear pipe and start the 3/8-16×3/4″ Bolt with flat & lock washer through backside of mounting bracket. — DO NOT TIGHTEN BOLTS! 9. Tighten the two bolts that secure the rear exhaust header pipe flange. 10. Tighten the two bolts that secure the front exhaust header pipe flange. 11. Tighten front pipe bolts at mounting bracket. 12. Tighten rear pipe bolts at mounting bracket. 13. Reinstall foot peg assembly or floorboard. 14. If applicable to your model install foot peg relocating brackets and foot pegs as shown in illustration. 15. Before starting bike wipe off any fingerprints and grease off pipes. Start bike and check for any exhaust leaks.
