REMOVE CLUTCH CABLE 1. See Figure 1. Loosen clutch adjuster to obtain slack in the clutch cable (2) by performing the following: a. Locate cable adjuster (1) and slide off rubber boot (4). b. While holding cable adjuster with 1/2-inch wrench, loosen jam nut (3) using a 9/16-inch wrench. c. Turn cable adjuster until there is a large amount of free play at hand lever. 1 2 3 4 is 00889 1. Remove the clutch release cover, being careful not to damage the gasket. Pull inner ramp (2) and coupling (5) out of side cover. Hold inner and outer ramps together to keep balls from falling free. 6. Rotate the inner ramp to a position that will allow the coupling (5) to be disconnected from the inner ramp lever arm. Disconnect coupling from inner ramp. Disconnect cable end from coupling. 7. Back out threaded cable fitting from side cover. Ensure that o-ring is removed with cable. Discard o-ring. INSTALL CLUTCH CABLE 1. See Figure 4. Obtain braided stainless steel clutch cable from kit. Apply a light coat of oil on new o-ring and install o-ring (Part Number 11179) onto threaded portion of clutch cable (4). Insert clutch cable fitting (3) into clutch release cover. Do not tighten cable fitting at this time. 2. Connect cable end to coupling. Rotate ramps for best access and install coupling on inner ramp. Place ramp assembly in position in side cover. 3. Install retaining ring. Position retaining ring opening so it is located approximately over the outer ramp tang (the stop that prevents rotation). NOTE Replace clutch release cover gasket if torn or damaged. 4. See Figure 3. Place gasket, if removed, on side cover and install side cover. Tighten the six screws in the order shown to 84-108 in-lbs (10-12 Nm) . 5. Tighten the clutch cable fitting to 36-60 in-lbs (4-7 Nm) . 6. Place a few drops of oil inside cable housing. 7. Route clutch cable as follows: SOFTAIL MODELS FXSTD, FLSTS, FXSTS and FXST – Route clutch cable from the clutch release cover, across the frame, up along the front frame downtubes and across the front of the handlebars. Cable straps (item 1 in service parts illustration) to be used in same location as original equipment straps. FLSTF and FLSTC – Route clutch cable from the clutch release cover, across the frame and up along the front frame down- tubes, up to and behind the handlebars. Cable straps (item 1 in service parts illustration) to be used in same location as original equipment straps. DYNA MODELS FXDWG – Route clutch cable from the clutch release cover, under frame and across to the left side. See Figure 5. Insert cable (1) into clip (2) at the bottom left side of the frame

INSTALLATION Remove Existing Equipment To prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause death or serious injury, remove maxi-fuse before proceeding. (00251a) 1. Refer to the Service Manual and follow the instructions given to remove the maxi-fuse. 2. Remove outer fairing and windshield. Refer to OUTER FAIRING/WINDSHIELD REMOVAL in Service Manual. 3 2 1 is 00397 1. Socket head screw (4) 2. Radio support bracket (2) 3. Radio Figure 1. AM/ FM Radio Installation 3. See Figure 1. Using a long shank ball end socket (Snap- on® FABL6E or equivalent), remove the four socket head screws (1) to release the storage box from the left and right radio support brackets (2). Use the oblong holes in the fairing brackets to access the screws. Install Radio 1. Pull the storage box forward to remove the box from the opening in the inner fairing. Discard the storage box. 2. Position the radio (3) between the radio support brackets and push it into the opening in the inner fairing. 3. Align the threaded inserts in the sides of the radio with the oblong holes in the left and right radio support brackets. 4. Starting at the rear, install the four socket head screws previously removed. Alternately tighten the screws to 35- 45 in-lbs (4.0-5.1 Nm). 5. Plug the 23-place radio socket housing [27A] (part of the interconnect harness already installed on the vehicle) into the back of the radio. 6. Remove three T25 TORX® screws that hold the speaker opening cover on one end of the fairing. Discard the cover and screws. Install Speakers 1. See Figure 3. If the speaker (3) and adapter (4) are not assembled, or are assembled incorrectly, orient the speaker on the adapter and grille assembly so the speaker spade contacts are toward the side of the adapter with the widest edge. Snap the speaker into the adapter using finger pressure only.

Refer to SYSTEM FUSES, MAXI- FUSE in Service Manual. NOTE Since the outer fairing screws hold the windshield in place, the windshield may fall to the floor if not removed. 2. Remove the windshield and outer fairing. Refer to UPPER FAIRING/WINDSHIELD in Service Manual for the outer fairing/windshield removal procedure. 3. Disconnect auxiliary lamp and turn signal connectors. NOTE See Figure 1. On 2005 and prior year models, the left and right turn signals plug into a 6-place connector located on the left fairing support brace. On 2006 and later models, each turn signal plugs into its own 4-place connector located toward the bottom of the inner fairing on each side. 4. Using a T40 Torx® drive head, remove and save the four bolts securing the auxiliary head lamp bracket to the chassis. 5. Remove auxiliary lamp bracket from motorcycle. Install washers onto turn signal bracket mounting bolts and apply Loctite 243 (blue) (99642-97) to the bolt threads. 4. Tighten mounting bolts to 15-20 ft-lbs (20-27 Nm) . 5. Route turn signal leads toward harness connector. Secure loose wiring with tie straps so wires do not rub against any sharp objects

VRSC models: See Figure 3. Place the wire harness from the kit into the area in front of the battery. Do not block the air intake opening. All models except VRSC and 2004 and later XL models: See Figure 4. Install the wire harness from the kit. Place the relay in the opening of the frame under the seat area, and route the long leg of the harness forward along the frame backbone. 2004 and later XL models: See Figure 5. Remove the nuts retaining the ignition module (1) and temporarily reposition the module as shown. Place the relay in the recessed area (2) of the oil reservoir. Install the ignition module. All 2003 and earlier models and VRSC: Cut the connector from the white power lead, and replace it with the ring terminal supplied in the kit. 6. All 2003 and earlier models, except VRSC: Connect the white wire with the ring terminal to the copper stud (BAT) terminal of the main circuit breaker. All 2004 and later models, except VRSC: Connect the white wire with connector to the B+ connector on the harness. All VRSC: Connect the white power lead to the battery positive terminal. 7. See Service Part illustration. Connect the black ground wires with the two ring terminals to the ground stud under the seat, or at any good electrical ground point. Secure the kit harness to the adjacent harnesses with cable straps (item 6) from the kit. When routing wires through the front fork, make sure the wires are clear of moving parts, to avoid pinching and possible short circuits. 8. Route the forward end of the harness past the steering head, and route the lamp switch leg of the harness along the left side of the handlebar to the clutch control. 9. See the Service Parts illustration. Obtain the switch mounting bracket (item 11) from the kit. Unscrew the boot from the lamp switch, and install the switch into the bracket. Replace the boot on the switch. NOTE If the boot becomes worn or damaged, or is lost, replace the boot to prevent moisture from entering the switch. See the Service Parts illustration (Item 12). 10. See Figure 6. Remove the lower screw (1) and washer from the clutch control clamp (3), and install the lamp switch and bracket assembly (2). Install the screw and washer and tighten to 60-80 in-lbs (7-9 Nm). 11. See the Service Parts illustration. Secure the lamp switch leg of the harness to the handlebar using the wire harness retainers already on the bike. Snap the retainers into the holes in the handlebar. 12. Remove the headlamp assembly. INSTALLATION 1. Unsnap the original equipment (O.E.) left-side glove box door, and unfasten the tether by bringing the aglet end (see Figure 1, B) out through the retaining hole. Always wear proper eye protection when drilling or grinding. Flying debris could cause serious eye injury. (00402e) 2. Using an 3/16 inch (5 mm) bit positioned in the center of each snap, drill out the four plastic snaps surrounding the glove box opening. NOTE The glove box door, hinge and frame assemblies are side- specific. The assemblies install so that the tether retaining hole (C) in the door frame is to the inboard side. 3. Obtain the new left-side glove box door, hinge and frame assembly (1), a lock (2) and a tether assembly (8) from the kit. Remove the nut (3) from the lock. 4. Insert the lock through the hole in the glove box door as shown. Assemble the tether over the lock threads with the tab (A) on the inboard side of the lock, same as the retaining hole in the door frame. Tighten securely. 5. Open the left-side door, and position the door assembly at the glove box opening, lining up the holes. 6. Insert a screw (9) through each of the holes in the door frame and glove box. Install a hex nut with washer (10) onto the threads of each screw. Tighten finger-tight. NOTE Ambient temperature should be at least 60° F (16° C) for proper adhesion of the gaskets to the glove box door frame. 7. Clean the glove box door frame with a mixture of 50 to 70% isopropyl alcohol and 30 to 50% distilled water. Allow to dry thoroughly. NOTE The glove box gaskets are side-specific. With the paper backing facing the door frame, the oblong hole at the top of the gasket is to the outboard side. 8. Obtain the left-side gasket (6) and a hinge gasket (7) from the kit. Install the gaskets to the glove box door frame. a. The gasket liner on the large gasket is split to aid alignment. Peel one half of the liner from the adhesive backing of the left-side gasket. b. Using the frame edges and screw heads as a guide, carefully position the gasket to the glove box door frame and press firmly into place. c. Peel the remaining half of the liner from the gasket backing, and carefully position the rest of the gasket to the door frame. Press firmly into place. d. Apply steady pressure for a few seconds at all areas of the gasket to verify proper adhesion. e. Peel the liner from the hinge gasket. f. Carefully position the gasket to the door frame above the hinge, and press firmly into place.

This kit fits 1980 and later Touring models equipped with engine guards. It does not fit with mustache engine guards INSTALLATION NOTE Soft lowers should not be used in temperatures above 55 degrees Fahrenheit. Engine cooling air flow will be affected and could lead to overheating and possible engine damage. 1. Apply a light coating of silicone grease to cavities of snaps prior to installing soft lowers on motorcycle. 2. See Figure 1. An opening is provided in the soft lowers for mounting highway footrests (1) to engine guard. If using footrests, mount within the opening to prevent buckling of splash guard fabric. 4. Remove adhesive liner from back of reflector. NOTE The ideal temperature should be at least 60° F (16° C) for proper adhesion of the reflectors. 5. Place reflector on fender and press firmly into position. 6. Let the adhesive cure for 24 hours at no less than 60° F (16° C). 7. Repeat steps for other reflector
