Cobra 2008 CX50SR (King) Ignition System installation Manual

Many 2008 Cobra CX50SR (King) customers are experiencing performance issues with their new motorcycles. These issues include cracking/popping noises, degrading performance, and excessively hot exhaust pipes. These issues have been traced back to manufacturing flaws with the new IDM brand ignition system. Because of the time associated with getting these issues sorted out, Cobra is switching production of the 2008 King over to the PVL brand ignition system (the same design used on 2007 model King motorcycles). Customers with 2008 Kings built prior to this date may exchange it for a PVL system at no cost for the hardware. For existing product in the field, Cobra will not support the IDM system until our supplier has their component functioning properly. To install the PVL system on the 2008 King simply remove the old hardware, and bolt on new (an updated Cobra universal puller will be required to remove the ignition rotor). The timing of the new PVL system will have to be set properly during installation

1. Slide the pad onto the kickstand being sure it is as far as it will go. 2. Tighten the setscrew on the side of the pad securely. 3. Recheck the pad and set screw occasionally to be sure that it is secure. Note; All kickstands are forged or stamped and then the mold parting line is hand ground. Some kickstands may have an excess amount of material on the bottom of the foot. If your pad does not slide completely onto the kickstand you will need to grind or file the bottom of your kickstand foot flat or flush until the pad does slip on completely.

Support caliper(s) using a rubber bungee cord. Be careful not to scratch fender paint. NOTES Do not operate front brake lever with the front wheel removed or the caliper piston may be forced out of piston bores. Reseating the piston requires disassembly of the caliper. Prior to removal, make note of existing left and right spacer location. The new spacers will be installed in the locations. 3. See Figure 3. On left side of wheel, remove axle nut (D), lockwasher (E) and washer (F). Perform the following: 4. Sportster and Dyna (except FXDWG) See Figure 2. 7. Place wheel between sliders and install axle. Verify that axle spacers on right and left side are properly installed. 8. See Figure 3. Install the washer (F), lockwasher (E) and nut (D) onto threaded end of axle (A). 9. In order to properly align the front fork, perform the fol- lowing: a. On the right side of the wheel, insert a 7/16 inch drill bit through the hole in the axle. While holding axle stationary, tighten axle nut to 50-55 ft-lbs (61.0-74.6 Nm) . b. Pull fork leg so that it just contacts drill bit. Tighten according to the following: c. Refer to Figure 2. Tighten the Axle Pinch Bolt Nut to 25-30 ft-lbs (33.9-40.7 Nm) . d.
