1) Assemble & install the chain tensioner assembly over the primary chain as shown in figure 1. 2) Install the compensator sprocket with extender & spacer (numbers 5, 6, & 7, FIG 2)(#7 is not included in this kit), primary chain, chain tensioner, and clutch basket simultaneously onto the motor drive shaft & transmission main shaft. Rotate the chain drive slightly as needed to allow the splines to line-up. 3) Install the chain tensioner nut loosely on the chain tensioner bolt. 4) Install the sliding cam onto the compensator sprocket, & slide the compensating sprocket cover-assembly (#3) over the cam. 5) Apply 2 drops of Rivera “Red” thread-lock on the threads of the motor drive shaft, & install the motor nut loosely with the fingers at this time. The hex spacer (#7) and spacer (#2) as seen in fig.2 are not provided in Rivera Engineering’s chain drive kit. These components are required with some applications, and can be purchased from your local Harley-Davidson dealer. FIG 2 6) Apply 2 drops of Rivera “red” thread-lock on the threads of the transmission main-shaft and loosely install the clutch hub nut (left hand threads). 7) Place the HD “Primary Drive Locking Tool” HD-41214 on the primary chain as shown in figure XXX and tighten the motor sprocket nut to 150-165 foot-pounds. 8)Turn the locking tool 180 degrees and move it to the clutch sprocket. Tighten the clutch hub nut to 70-80 foot pounds (left- hand thread). Adjust chain tension so that the top strand has 5/8″- to-7/8″ of up and down play (cold drive train). Tighten the center bolt nut to 21-29 foot pounds of torque.

Kit Contents Table 1. Kit Contents Part Number Description (Quantity) Not sold separately Chrome Inner Primary Housing 786A Sealing fastener (5) INSTALLATION NOTES Whenever the sealing fasteners are loosened or removed, they must be replaced. Always replace using Harley-Davidson® Original Equipment sealing fasteners part 786A. Do not use part 786. The primary housing included in this kit installs in the same manner as the stock inner primary housing with the following exception: Use the five sealing fasteners included with this kit. Install and tighten fasteners to the torque specified below. For 2006 Dyna model motorcycles: Remove dowel pins from the chrome inner primary housing before attempting installation. Using a pair of pliers or vice grips, remove the dowel pins by carefully twisting and pulling on the pins. Be careful not to scratch or mar the chrome or sealing surfaces of the chrome inner primary housing. Remove the chain tensioner anchor plate, bolt and screws from the stock inner primary housing after it has been removed, then install it on the chrome inner primary housing. See the appropriate Service Manual for the proper tightening procedure, and torque specifications. 1. See the Drive section of the appropriate Service Manual, and remove the stock inner primary housing. Clean the internal threads in the crankcase and transmission case where the sealing fasteners were removed using a wire brush. Install the chrome inner primary housing as indicated below. It is important to inspect three things on the water pump drive pulley and belt. Inspect 1. That the belt and pulleys are in proper alignment and that the belt is not rubbing on flywheel or edges of the pulleys 2. That the pulleys are not cracked 3. That the water pump impeller pulley fastener is tight and has adequate high strength thread lock agent applied. Below is the proper orientation of the water pump drive pulley, cover, and spacers.

Remove the outer primary cover. Remove the front pulley, chain, compensator & chain adjuster Remove oil lines to primary and plug or clamp to prevent leakage. Cut the chain oiler hose 3 inches from the oil pump and permanently plug. All belts must be run dry without lubrication of any kind. Therefore, remove all oil from inside the primary covers. The spacer behind the front pulley should be removed prior to installing the belt drive. This spacer may or may not be required to correctly align the pulleys. If a spacer is needed for alignment, various sizes are available from your local Primo Belt Drives dealer (part number PX-1 =package of 6 various sizes). Install the front pulley supplied in the kit. Loop the belt around both pulleys to insure that you have the proper belt for your pulleys, then gently push the unit into place. Use the supplied washer & nut on the motor shaft. Torque the motor nut to 80-100 foot pounds. If installing a PC-1000-Aremove the clutch hub & clutch basket. On tapered shaft models check the fit on the shaft & the fit of the keyway in the hub. Install the key in the mainshaft, making sure it is firmly seated (use of super glue or threadlock in the keyway is helpful to keep the key from sliding out of the keyway during clutch installation). Tighten the clutch hub nut(left-hand thread) to 60-90 foot pounds. 1 After installing and adjusting clutch, track the belt by turning the pulleys. If needed use a straight edge between the front and rear pulleys to check alignment. Improper alignment of the pulleys will result in reduced belt life. Spacing the motor pulley outward will cause the belt to track towards the outer primary cover. If spaced too far out the belt will rub on the inside of the clutch shell. Before installing the primary cover be sure that everything inside clears both the outer and inner covers. In some cases a small amount of metal may need to be removed from one or more of the bosses on the inner or outer primary cover.

INSTALLATION : The spacer behind the front pulley should be removed prior to installing the belt drive. This spacer may or may not be required to correctly align the pulleys. If a spacer is needed for alignment, various sizes are available from your local Primo Belt Drives dealer (part number PX-1 =package of 6 various sizes). With all supporting components installed, install front pulley, lubricate and reinstall the clutch hub. Loop the belt around the front and rear pulleys, and gently push into place. Use the washer and nut supplied with the kit on the front motor shaft, (always use an impact wrench on splined shaft motors) tighten to 80-100 foot pounds of torque. After installing and adjusting clutch, track the belt by turning the pulleys. If needed us a straight edge between the front and rear pulleys to check alignment. Improper alignment of the pulleys will result in reduced belt life. Spacing the motor pulley outward will cause the belt to track towards the outer primary cover. If spaced too far out the belt will rub on the inside of the clutch shell. ENCLOSED INSTALLATIONS: The same disassembly is required, with the exception of the clutch hub and inner primary. We recommend using our PC-1000-Acomplete clutch assembly. Loop the belt around both pulleys to insure that you have the proper belt for your pulleys, then gently push the unit into place. Use the washer and nut supplied with the kit on the motor shaft. Torque the motor nut to 80-100 foot pounds . Adjust the clutch & check belt / pulley alignment. Before installing the primary cover be sure that everything inside clears both the outer and inner covers. In some cases a small amount of metal may need to be removed from one or more of the bosses on the inner or outer primary covers

INSPECTION PROCEDURE: Inspect the Wiper Fuse. Verify there is power and ground to the Wiper Motor on all speeds (including “Intermittent” or “Mist” if applicable). After verifying power and ground to the Wiper Motor, follow the procedure below to prevent unnecessary Wiper Motor replacement because of a temporary open in the Wiper Motor Circuit Breaker. 1) Disconnect the Wiper Motor Harness Connector. 2) Wait (10) minutes before checking continuity. 3) Check the continuity of the motor with an ohmmeter. REPRESENTATIVE CHECKING PROCEDURE: NOTE: Continuity check can be performed between either the low speed or high speed terminal and the ground terminal of the wiper motor.
