The actuator spool is installed in the CIU housing with the actuator cable. The actuator spool is rotated to fully extend the cable. 2nd step. The carburettor cable and spool are installed and the other end of the carburettor cable is attached to the carburettors. Note the position of the roll pin. It is nearly contacting the end of the groove in the actuator spool. The free play in the carburettor cable must be adjusted so that the cable outer can be pulled out 2 ~ 3mm before the carburettors start to open. This ensures that the cruise control cannot prevent the carburettors returning to idle. If more free play is allowed the response of the cruise control is compromised. This adjustment of free play is usually performed after final assembly of the CIU is completed and the CIU is in its final location. This is because flexing the cable does effect the free play. It is shown at this stage in these diagrams to improve clarity. After this adjustment is performed, the carburettor cable adjustment MUST NOT BE MOVED. All future adjustments of free play in the throttle must be performed on the throttle cable from the throttle grip. If incorrect free play in this cable is suspected due to inconsistent cruise operation or because of inconsistent idle speed, the adjusters on the throttle cable from the hand grip must be backed all the way off to give as much free play as possible. If this does not result in AT LEAST 5mm of free play in the throttle cable, the throttle cable must be removed from the hand grip or CIU before adjustment of the carburettor cable is attempted. This is crucial because the amount of free play in the throttle cable also effects the apparent free play in the carburettor cable.

this module will pulse any horn, headlight or tail light at the rate of 7 times per second. 1. Find a suitable mounting location. Clean the mounting surface thoroughly using rubbing alcohol, peel the adhesive backing and press the module firmly in place. 2. Connect the black wire to the frame or other suitable ground. (NOTE: Failure to achieve a good ground will ruin the module Immediately and void the warranty!) 3. At any point that is convenient cut or disconnect the power wire to the light or horn(s). Connect the green wire to the wire going to the light, horn(s) or wire going to it. 4. Connect the red wire to the power wire coming from the motorcycle. 5. To bypass or turn the modulator off (in some states it is not legal to use a headlight modulator at night or at all, check your state laws) install an on/off switch between the red and green wires. When the switch is in the on position the electricity to the light or horn(s) will bypass the module and the light or horn(s) will not pulse.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS: 1. All connections must be of the highest quality, use crimped or soldered connections; twisted wires will not give a satisfactory operation. 2. Remove the seat and/or petrol tank to gain access to the original spark units (if fitted); these are normally fitted under the seat between the top frame tubing. Each of these units consists of a small alloy metal box with sleeved wires terminated by a small connector (coupler). They also have a mounting tab with a single fixing hole. 3. On four cylinder machines there will be two units, normally mounted back to back; one for cylinders 1&4 and one for cylinders 2&3. 4. For safety, disconnect the battery. 5. Unplug the couplers from each of the units. Undo the fixings and remove the units. 6. Fit the new spark units in the place of the old ones or find a suitable alternative, close to the connectors. Secure the units to the frame or mounting platform using the supplied tie-straps and adhesive mounting base (if required). If required, a thin sheet of rubber or double-sided tape can be used to keep the units in position. Do not completely wrap the units in foam rubber. 7. Push the wiring harness plugs into the new spark unit socket connectors; they will only fit one way. Reconnect the battery. 8. If you are rewiring the machine or do not have the standard wiring harness, the spark unit wire colours & functions are as follows: GREEN Ö GROUND (0 VOLTS) BLACK/WHITE Ö IGNITION SUPPLY (+12 VOLTS) VIA ENGINE STOP SWITCH YELLOW Ö IGNITION COIL OUTPUT (TO COIL —) WHITE Ö PULSE GENERATOR (WHITE RING) BLUE Ö PULSE GENERATOR (UNMARKED) There are two pulse generators, one for cylinders 1&4 and one for cylinders 2&3. The left hand one is normally for cylinders 1&4 (see fig.1). There are two wires of the same colour coming from each pulse generator, one of these wires is normally marked with a white band. The pulse generator wire with the white band connects to the white wire from the corresponding spark unit, the other pulse generator wire connects to the blue wire on the corresponding spark unit. If the white band is missing, this is normally the upper wire coming from the pulse generator. 9. Refit the seat and tank (if removed earlier). 10. Fitting is now complete, although for best results you may wish to verify the ignition timing, see the following guide

The Hands Free interface module in this kit requires proximity to a BluetoothTM-enabled cellular phone in order to function. The phone must be a model that is compatible with the interface module (go to to view the compatibility chart), and must be paired to the interface module according to the instructions included with the cell phone. NOTE The cell phone MUST be available to the installer in the final steps of the installation (prior to re-installation of the outer fairing) in order to program and test the hands free functions. PICKUP PLATE INSTALLATION Remove the existing trigger/points plate and rotor, points cam and advance. Refer to the bike’s Service Manual for the proper procedure. EVOLUTION AND LATE MODEL SHOVELHEAD V-TWINS 1. From inside the cam/ignition housing, feed the free end of the MSD pickup harness through the wire access port. Note: The harness includes a heat-resistant acrylic sleeve that fits snugly inside the port opening. Do not pull the sleeve completely through the port. It must be positioned to protect the wires as they pass through the port opening. 2. Mount the MSD pickup plate inside the housing (Figure 1). Note the “adjusting notch” on the edge of the plate. This notch must be located over the series of “steps” inside the housing (about the 7 o’clock position as you face the housing). One of the sensor units will be at approximately 12 o’clock. SPORTSTER MODELS 1. On Sportsters, the wire access port must be enlarged. Use a 9/32″ drill bit to enlarge the wire port. 2. Remove the wire harness clamp of the pickup assembly and route the wires through the port. 3. Mount the MSD pickup plate inside the housing (Figure 2). Note the “adjusting notch on the edge of the plate. This notch must be located over the “cast notch” inside the housing (about the 11 o’clock position as you face the housing). The shorter of the two sensors will be approximately in the 9 o’clock position. 4. Install the hold-down/standoff screws with flat washers until they are snug – do not tighten at this time (Figure 3). 3. Put the MSD rotor in place on the end of the camshaft. The locating pin in the rotor bore must align with the groove in the cam. Do not force the rotor on the camshaft! Push the rotor into place until it is tightly against the end of the cam then snug the retaining screw. 4. Check the distance from the outer surface of the pickup plate to the end of the installed rotor (Figure 4). If necessary, add shims until the measured rotor height is 9/16″ (+/- 1/32″). 5. When the rotor height has been verified, remove the retaining screw, place a drop of Red Loctite on the threads and reinstall the screw to the factory recommended torque

FUEL DANGER Fuel used to drive internal combustion engines is highly inflammable and may become explosive under certain conditions. It is best to refuel and carry out maintenance in well ventilated places with the engine switched off. Do not smoke during refuelling or near fuel fumes. Avoid all contact with naked flames, sparks, or any other source that may cause ignition or explosion. Also avoid allowing the fuel to spill out of the filler cap as it could catch fire on contact with the very hot surfaces on the engine. Should fuel be spilled accidentally check that the area is completely dry before starting up the vehicle. The fuel expands when subjected to heat or the sun’s rays. The fuel tank should therefore never be filled to the brim. Close the filler cap carefully on completing refuelling. Avoid the fuel coming into contact with your skin, inhaling vapours, ingestion and siphoning from one container to another using a hose. DO NOT DISPOSE OF THE FUEL INTO THE ENVIRONMENT. KEEP AWAY FROM CHILDREN. Only use super lead-free petrol, with a minimum octane rating of 95 (N.O.R.M.) and 85 (N.O.M.M.). LUBRICANTS DANGER Adequate lubrication of the vehicle is essential to guarantee the safety of the vehicle. Failure to keep lubricants at sufficiently high levels or the use of inadequate, new and clean lubricants may cause the engine or gearbox to seize, resulting in accidents, serious injury or death. Gearbox oil may cause serious harm to your skin if handled for long periods of time and on a daily ba- sis. We recommend washing your hands carefully after having handled this oil. Do not dispose of the oil into the environment. Deliver this oil to the nearest collection company for spent oil or the supplier, or have them collect it. WARNING When putting oil into the vehicle be very careful not to spill any. Immediately clean off any spilt oil, otherwise it may damage the paintwork on the vehicle. In addition, any oil that ends up on the tyres will make them extremely slippery, creating a dangerous situation. If an oil leak should arise, do not use the vehicle. Check and identify the cause of the leak and repair the component involved. ENGINE OIL DANGER Engine oil may cause serious harm to your skin if handled for long periods of time and on a daily ba- sis. We recommend washing your hands carefully after having handled this oil. Do not dispose of the oil into the environment. Deliver this oil to the nearest collection company for spent oil or the supplier, or have them collect it. When carrying out maintenance we recommend wearing latex gloves. FORK OIL DANGER Adjusting the setting on the shock absorbers and/or the viscosity of the oil used in them may partially change the reaction of the suspension. Standard oil viscosity: SAE 20 W. The viscosity grade may be chosen in relation to the type of set-up you want on the vehicle (SAE 5W soft, 20W rigid). These two products may be used in varying percentages in order to obtain the required reaction

SERVICE INFORMATION GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS Remove the motorcycle frame covers before removing the front wheel. Jack the motorcycle front wheel off the ground and be careful to prevent the motorcycle from falling down. During servicing, keep oil or grease off the brake drum and brake linings. Contaminated brake disk or brake pads reduce stopping power. Clean the contaminated brake disk with high-performance brake degreaser and replace the brake pads. Do not use brake fluid for cleaning. Bleed air from the brake system if the brake system is removed or the brake is soft. Do not allow any foreign matters to enter the brake system when filling it with brake fluid. Brake fluid will damage painted surfaces and plastic parts. When servicing the brake system, use shop towels to cover and protect rubber, plastic parts and coated surfaces. Wipe off any spilled brake fluid with a clean shop towel. Inspect the brake system before riding.
