Kit numbers 51010-01 and 51011-01 fit 1980 and later FLT, FLHT, FLHR, FLHS, and FLTR models; and 1986 and later FLSTC, FLSTN, FLSTF, and FLSTS models. Kit numbers 51016-01 and 51017-01 fit 1986 and later Softail models equipped with footboard kit part number 50602-89A, 50955-97A, 50602-00, or 50955-00; and 1986 and later FLHT, FLT, FLHR, FLTR, and FLHS models. These inserts are compatible with passenger chrome- footboard covers. Installation REMOVE EXISTING FOOTBOARD INSERTS 1. Apply liquid dishwashing soap to the footboard-insert rubber beads protruding through the bottom of the footboard. 2. Pry the footboard insert out from the top of the footboard to remove the insert. INSTALL NEW FOOTBOARD INSERTS 1. Apply liquid dishwashing soap to the new footboard- insert rubber beads. 2. Place the footboard insert into position on the footboard. Use a pliers to pull each rubber bead into its footboard hole until the beads protrude through the footboard. 3. Repeat the above steps for the remaining footboard insert.

With the operator footboard in the “up” position, use a screwdriver to work the rubber footboard beads out through the top of the footboard. 3. Repeat the above steps for the remaining footboard insert. Installing the New Inserts 4. Apply liquid dishwashing soap to the rubber beads on the new footboard insert. 5. Place the footboard insert into position on the footboard pan. From the underside of the footboard, use a pliers to pull each rubber bead into its mating hole in the footboard pan until the beads protrude through the pan. 6. Repeat the above steps for the remaining footboard insert.

Removing Passenger Footpegs 1. Remove and discard the socket screw and lock washer attaching the existing footpeg bracket to the rear swing arm bracket. Proceed to Step 5. Removing Passenger Footboard Supports 1. For standard footboard 50613-91: See the Service Parts illustration. Tilt the footboard to the “up” position. Remove the underside chrome footboard covers if so equipped. From the bottom of the footboard, use a small flat-blade screwdriver to push the rubber beads on the pad up through the holes in the footboard pan. Remove the pad. For swept-wing (FLHRS- and FLHTCSE-style) footboards: With the passenger footboard in the “down” position, carefully raise an outside “corner” of the stock footboard insert off the footboard pan with a suitable flat-bladed tool, taking care to avoid scratching the chrome footboard pan. Continue around the edge of the footboard, using a second flat-bladed tool if necessary to pry up and remove the old insert. 2. Using a brass drift and rubber mallet, tap one pivot pin (6) out of the pivot hole into the center pocket of the footboard pan, remove the pin and set it aside. Repeat for the second pin. 3. Remove the footboard from the support bracket (1). Remove and discard the steel ball (5) and spring (4) from the hole in the bracket. 4. Remove and discard the socket head screw (2) and lock washer (3) attaching the footboard support bracket to the rear swing arm bracket. Proceed to Step 5. Installing the New Footboard Supports NOTE Three holes are available in the rear fork brackets for footboard support mounting. Depending on model and year, the footboards can be installed in any of two or three positions for passenger comfort. A plastic plug, inserted in the upper hole at the factory, can be removed. 5. See the Service Parts illustration. Position a new chrome footboard support (1) against the swing arm bracket at the desired height. The left and right supports are identical. With the locating peg on the footboard support in the next lower hole, fasten the support with a hex socket screw (2) and lockwasher (3) from the kit. Tighten the screw to 15-18 ft-lbs (20-24 Nm). 6. Place the new spring (4) into the retaining hole in the footboard support. Rest the detent ball (5) on top of the spring

INSTALLATION If replacing an insert or inserts on a vehicle currently equipped with Swept Wing Passenger Footboards: Existing Footboard Insert Removal NOTE Carefully remove the currently installed footboard insert to avoid damage to chrome surfaces. 1. See Figure 1. Fold the passenger footboard (1) into the UP position. 2. Loosen, but do not remove the footboard insert setscrew (2). 3. With the footboard folded DOWN, carefully raise an outside corner of the existing insert with a suitable flat-bladed tool, taking care to avoid damaging the chrome footboard pan. 4. Continue around the insert, using a second tool if necessary to pry the existing insert (3) from the footboard pan. 5. If replacing both inserts, repeat for the opposite footboard. Swept Wing Passenger Footboard Installation 1. If installing inserts on a vehicle NOT currently equipped with Swept Wing Passenger Footboards: •Remove currently installed passenger footboards (if so equipped) per the instructions included with the Swept Wing Passenger Footboard Kit. •Remove currently installed passenger footpegs (if so equipped) by removing the socket screw with lockwasher retaining the footpeg support bracket to the rear fork (swingarm) bracket. 2. Follow the instructions in the Swept Wing Passenger Footboard Kit to install the passenger footboards. Footboard Insert Installation 3. ALL applications: Center the two footboard pivot pins. 4. Use soapy water to moisten the rubber dowel pins and pivot pin slots on the bottom of the new footboard insert. 5. Place the insert into position with the rubber dowel pins mating the holes in the footboard pan. Firmly press the insert into the footboard until the dowel pins pop into place. 6. Fold the passenger floorboard UP and tighten the setscrew to secure the insert. 7. Repeat Steps 3 through 6 for the opposite footboard. NOTE Avoid the contact of chrome surfaces with abrasive materials (stones, sand, etc.) as damage will result

To install footboards in a new position, remove plastic plugs from holes in rear swingarm bracket as necessary. • On 2009 and Earlier Models: The lowest of the four holes on the frame is not threaded and cannot be used to mount the footboards. 1. See Figure 2. Insert shoulder bolt (9) or (10) through slot in footboard bracket (1). a. 2010 and Later Models: Thread the 5/16 inch shoulder bolt (9) into the lowest hole in the rear swingarm bracket of the frame. b. 2009 and Earlier Models: Thread the 3/8 inch shoulder bolt (10) into the second lowest hole in the rear swingarm bracket of the frame. Tighten the bolts to 48-72 in-lbs (5-8 Nm.) . 2. At the desired height, install the upper screw (2) and lockwasher (3) through footboard bracket (1). Tighten screw to 36-42 ft-lb (49-56 Nm) . 3. Install spring (4) into retaining hole in footboard bracket. Set the ball (5) on top of spring. 4. Position the detent in the bottom of the footboard pan (8 or 12) over ball in footboard bracket. Be sure not to unseat the ball. Press down on footboard pan so the holes of the footboard pan and footboard bracket align. 5. Insert pivot pins (7) through two mounting holes on footboard bracket and into footboard pan. 6. Align footboard insert (6 or 11) in footboard pan. Press insert firmly until the footboard pan tabs are firmly seated in the footboard insert. 7. Fold footboard up and install set screw (13) to secure footboard pad. 8. Pivot footboard assembly up and down to verify proper operation. 9. Repeat all steps for opposite side

REMOVAL 1. See Figure 1. Remove existing passenger footpegs and mounting hardware. 2. Remove chrome swingarm pivot covers, if equipped. 3. Do not remove tool boxes, if equipped. INSTALLATION NOTES To prevent damage to chrome surfaces, avoid contact with abrasive materials (stones, sand, etc.). Some paint removal from counterbore holes of footboard brackets may be necessary to ease the installation of the pivot pins. Install Left Footboard Mount and Bracket 1. See Figure 2. Position left footboard mount (1) and insert screw (2) through mount and into footpeg mounting hole. 2. Position semi-circular cutout in mount extending from side of mount around nut of swingarm pivot bolt. Tighten screw (2) to 35-45 ft-lbs (47-61 Nm). 3. Position left footboard bracket (3) on mounting stud so that bolt hole aligns with machined groove in stud. 4. Insert screw (4) through left side in split hub of footboard bracket. Thread into tapped hole (right side) of split hub. Tighten to 10 ft-lbs (13.6 Nm). Install Right Footboard Bracket 1. See Figure 2. Position right footboard bracket (5) onto muffler support bracket. 2. Secure footboard bracket with screw (6). Tighten to 35-45 ft-lbs (47-61 Nm). Install Left and Right Footboards NOTE The footboards are side specific. Install footboards with Bar and Shield logo toward the front. 1. See Figure 2. Place footboard pad (7, 8) on footboard bottom (9, 10) and thread the pivot pins (11, 12). 2. Tighten pivot pins to 60-68 in-lbs (6.8-9.0 Nm). 3. Place spring (13) into retaining hole in footboard bracket (3, 5). Rest Delrin® ball (14) on top of spring. 4. Position footboard bottom (9, 10) onto footboard bracket in the down position while being careful not to unseat the ball. 5. Tighten pivot pins to 12-15 ft-lbs (16.3-20 Nm). 6. Press down on footboard assembly so holes align. 7. Insert mounting pins (15) in footboard bottom (9, 10) into corresponding holes in footboard pad (7, 8).

Installation 1. See Service Parts illustration. Remove socket head cap- screw (2) from footboard support (3). Place support on a clean flat surface. 2. From bottom of footboard (1), use a small flat blade screwdriver to push rubber beads on pad (5) up through holes in footboard. Remove pad from footboard. 3. Using a brass drift and rubber mallet, tap two retaining pins (4) toward center of footboard and remove. 4. Remove footboard from support bracket taking care to remove and retain detent ball (6) and spring (7) from footboard support (3). 5. Insert spring (7) and detent spring (6) into footboard support (3). 6. Place new chrome footboard pan in position with footboard support and insert retaining pins using a brass drift and rubber mallet. 7. Moisten rubber beads on pad with soapy water. Place pad into position on footboard. From bottom of footboard, use needle nose pliers to pull rubber beads down through holes in footboard. 8. Engage nubs on inboard corners of pad with holes in foot- board. 9. Install socket head cap screw into footboard support and tighten 120 in-lbs (13.6 Nm). 10. Repeat procedure for other passenger footboard
