the Airbag Parts Replacement Recommendations chart is designed as an aid to damage appraisal, and an initial guide to vehicle-specific airbag system repair after a deployment. The chart covers production vehicles sold in the United States. Because of the many changes that are occurring in airbag systems, there may be some exceptions to the chart. This chart is NOT intended to replace the service manual. A SERVICE MANUAL IS REQUIRED when making any airbag system repairs. The only way to determine if an airbag system is working properly is to observe the airbag warning lamp on the instrument panel. When the key is switched ON, the airbag lamp should light for a few seconds. This is important because it indicates that the lamp is working. If after a few seconds the lamp goes out, the system is working properly. If the lamp stays lit, a problem exists.

GENERAL INFORMATION MOTORCYCLE IDENTIFICATION EB100010 VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER The vehicle identification number 1 is stamped into the right side of the steering head. MODEL LABEL The model label 1 is affixed to the frame. This information will be needed to order spare parts. 1-2 IMPORTANT INFORMATION GEN INFO EB101000 IMPORTANT INFORMATION PREPARATION FOR REMOVAL PROCE- DURES 1. Remove all dirt, mud, dust and foreign material before removal and disassembly. 2. Use proper tools and cleaning equipment. Refer to the “SPECIAL TOOLS” section. 3. When disassembling the machine, always keep mated parts together. This includes gears, cylinders, pistons and other parts that have been “mated” through normal wear. Mated parts must always be reused or replaced as an assembly. 4. During machine disassembly, clean all parts and place them in trays in the order of disassembly. This will speed up assembly and allow for the correct installation of all parts. 5. Keep all parts away from any source of fire. EB101010 REPLACEMENT PARTS 1. Installation of an S&S Super Stock cylinder head kit is easy and can be performed by any Harley-Davidson®repair shop equipped to do engine overhauls. No special tools other than those used in normal overhaul repair work are required. Read instructions thoroughly before starting work. When they are completely understood proceed with installation. 1. Remove Components and Inspect Parts Follow procedures outlined in appropriate Harley-Davidson® service manual to prepare motorcycle for top end service. NOTE: Disconnect batteryand drain all gasoline from gas tanks beforedoing any work. Gasoline is extremely flammable and explosive under certain conditions and toxic when breathed. Do not smoke. Perform installation in a well ventilated area away from open flames or sparks. A. Remove gas tanks and all other parts required to perform top end service. B. Remove carburetor, rocker covers, pushrods and pushrod tube assemblies, cylinder heads and cylinders. Also remove piston rings from piston. Do not remove pistons. NOTE: Be careful not to introduce any dirt or other foreign material into crankcase during disassembly of engine. Metal filings, dirtand any other foreign contamination in engine may cause premature wear and/or irreversible damage to bearings and other internal engine components. C. Thoroughly clean and inspect all parts that are to be reused. Any parts that show signs of wear or damage should be replaced. WARNING CAUTION 2. Check Piston Alignment in Cylinder Bore The purpose of this procedure is to check for and correct possible piston misalignment in the cylinder bore. During normal manufacturing, engine components such as crankcases, cylinders, and connecting rods can be machined to dimensions within factory specifications but on the extreme ends of the tolerance range. Sometimes these components when combined together form an assembly that is borderline or actually “out of print”. The worst result isthat the pistons can run cocked in the cylinder bores causing the connecting rods to thrust to the sides exerting unnecessary stress on the pistons, rings, rod bearings and other related parts. This procedure is not the same as blue printing, but it provides almost the same result. We feel that not enough emphasis is given to checking the piston alignment in the cylinder bore.

2001-2002 GL1800/A CD Changer Replacement ORDERING AND REPLACING THE CD CHANGER 1. Before calling the CD Changer Order Desk, have the following information ready: • VIN • Failure Information (i.e., symptom) • Warranty Status 2. To order, call the CD Changer Order Desk toll free: (888) 997-7278 . The CD Changer Order Desk hours are Monday thru Friday, 8:30am – 8:00pm EST. Part Number: 08A06-MCA-100RM Honda Code: 7097009 3. After calling the CD Changer Order Desk, an exchange CD Changer will be shipped overnight (freight prepaid). 4. Replace the faulty CD Changer with the exchange unit (see REPAIR PROCEDURE ). DO NOT remove the faulty CD Changer until you receive the exchange unit. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REMOVE ANY STUCK CD’S. CHANGERS DAMAGED IN THIS WAY WILL BE RETURNED TO THE DEALER AND NO CORE CREDIT WILL BE ALLOWED. You will be billed $300.00 for the replacement unit. You must return the faulty CD Changer for a core credit and file a warranty claim to receive your total reimbursement (see TRANSACTION SUMMARY on page 3 for details). REPAIR PROCEDURE 1.
