CHANGING ENGINE OIL CAUTION In case of oil leakage or malfunctions, contact an Aprilia Authorised Dealer . Do not dispose of oil in the environ- ment. Dispose of engine oil – stored in a sealed container – through the nearest waste oil reclamation firm or through the supplier. Carefully read page 34 (MAINTE- NANCE) To change engien oil: ◆ Ride for a few kilometres until engine reaches the operating temperature, then stop the engine. ◆ Position a graduated container (1), under the drain plug (2). ◆ Loosen oil filler plug (4) and drain plug (2). ◆ Let oil flow out of the sump. ◆ Loosen oil filter (3) and carefully clean it. ◆ Refit the filter and tighten fully. ◆ Tighten drain plug (2) and pour recommended oil into filler plug (4), see page 58 (LUBRICANT CHART). ◆ Tighten the filler plug. CAUTION Carefully tighten filler and drain plugs and ensure oil does not leak out. Periodically check for leaks at the casing cover gasket. Do not use the vehicle with insufficient lubrication or with contaminated or unsuitable lubricants, since this would cause early wear of the moving parts and may also cause irreparable failures Fluid reservoir (1) is under rear right wheelhouse. CAUTION Position the vehicle on firm and flat ground. ◆ Make sure that the fluid contained in the reservoir exceeds the ” MIN ” mark stamped on the reservoir. MIN = minimum level. WARNING Do not use the vehicle if the braking system is leaking fluid. CAUTION Do not use the vehicle if the fluid is below the “MIN” mark. 1

Setup operations include 12/24hour clock, bar tachometer scale, shift warning RPM, numbers of engine rotation per signal, wheel circumference, units, odometer adjustment, units of temperature, temperature warning and fuel meter input resistance selection. These must be set up step by step. The computer will automatic reversion to main screen if no button operation for 75 seconds at any setting screen. 2. Press both MODE & RESET buttons to go into setting screen. In setting screens, press RESET button to add the flashing digit by 1 or convert units, press MODE button to confirm the digit setting and jump to next digit or next setting screen to be set. Press MODE button for 2 seconds at any setting screen to finish the setting and go to main screen. 3. It displays “12 or 24H and XX:XX-XX” symbols and AM/PM in case you select 12H. Operates buttons as descriptions of item 2 to finish clock and jump to 8,000/16,000rpm scale setting. 4. It displays 8,000rpm scale, presess RESET button to convert 8,000 or 16,000rpm. Press MODE button to confirm the setting and jump to shift RPM warning setting. 5. It displays ” RPM rXXX00 “. Follow the item 2 of button operation to finish the shift RPM warning setting and jump to engine specification setting. 6. It displays “SPC-X.X RPM”, the default value is 1.0; there are 4 options: 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 and 0.5. It means the numbers of engine rotation per signal. Press MODE button to confirm the setting and go to wheel circumference setting screen. 8. In “cXXXX” display, “c” means “Circumference”, following 4 default digits; flashing digit is digit to be set. Follow the item 2 of button operation to finish the wheel circumference setting and jump to unit setting. 9. It displays KM/h or MPH, each press of RESET button converts unit; press MODE button to confirm unit setting and jump to odometer setting. 10. It displays “ODO & 00000Xkm”, the “X” is tested odometer in factory, follow item 2 to setting a desired odometer and jump to thermometer unit setting. The setting screen will disappear when the odometer is over 30km or your setting is over 30km and returned to main screen. 11. It displaysm ” , or oFF”, each press of RESET button converts , or oFF; press MODE button to confirm temperature setting and jump to temperature warning setting. 12. It displays ” XXX” and the selected unit. Follow the item 2 of button operation to finish the temperature warning setting and go to fuel sensor input resistance setting. 13. It displays “100r and fuel tank symbol”, follow the item 2 to select 100, 250, 510 Ohm or oFF and return to the main screen. The fuel meter bar will disappear if you select oFF mode.

Relocation of Regulator. Laying under the right side of the motorcycle, locate the voltage regulator. (finned aluminum box-approximately 3″x 4″) Note: See photo #1 – regulator already relocated. Remove the (2) 10 mm bolts attaching the regulator to the frame. Attach the bracket supplied to the regulator as shown. Using the original bolts, attach the regulator and bracket assembly to the frame as shown in photo #1 using the two 10 mm bolts supplied. Clamping Centerstand to Frame . Notice the centerstand is shipped with (2) white plastic washers. Note: See photo #2-A These are in place to overcome the spring tension or lock the stand in place and allow you to pivot the lower stand down partially to make installation easier. Pivot the upper stand about half way from the retracted to the extended (down) position. Note: This will require some force. If the stand will not stay in the position you can further tighten the two 9/16″ pivot nuts. Remove the bolts from the four band clamps. Wrap the (2) small clamps around the small upper frame tube and start the bolts so that the bolt will be at the bottom of the tube and the wrench head facing towards the rear of the motorcycle. Note: See photo #2. Center the stand on the frame from side to side so as to gain even clearance between the feet on the centerstand and the rear tire when the stand is in the retracted position. Holding the larger cradle up against the frame, tighten the (2) small clamps enough to hold the centerstand in place. Install one of the large clamps as shown in photo #3-A. Install the 2nd large clamp as shown in photo #2-C. Again retract the stand and check that the feet have even amounts of space from the side of the rear tire. Tighten the flour clamps securely 5-7 ft. lbs. Next remove the (2) 9/16″ pivot nuts and the white plastic washers as shown in photo #2-A. Re-install and tighten the 9/16″ pivot nuts securely 8-12 ft lbs. With the stand in the retracted position-adjust the stop bolt and lock nut, see photo #3-B, so that the stand is parallel with the ground and does not come in contact with any parts of the motorcycle. Using your new centerstand . To put the motorcycle up onto the centerstand, hold the left handle bar and saddlebag guard rail or grab under the bottom of the seat. Using the ball of your right foot, lower the stand to the ground. Rock the motorcycle from side to side slightly until you feel both feet of the stand touching the ground. Now put all of your weight onto the centerstand pedal (stand on it). Pull up and back on the grab rail or seat using a rocking motion to rock the motorcycle up onto the stand. Remember it is a matter of using your body weight and leverage not lifting!

1) Place motorcycle on a smooth level surface on its side stand. 2) Install leveling screw jacks so that motorcycle is in an upright and level position. 3) Remove saddlebags. 4) Mount bracket A ( left side ) to the 3 bolts that attach the rear fender and sub frame to the main motorcycle frame. new bolts provided 5) Mount bracket B ( right side ) to the 3 bolts that attach the rear fender and sub frame to the main motorcycle frame. new bolts provided 6) Bracket C mounts to the outside of bracket A at the rear lower hole. ( left ) 7) Bracket D mounts to the outside of bracket B at the rear lower hole. ( right ) 8) Bracket E ( left ) attaches to the outside of the motorcycle frame just under the rear foot peg and above the frame weld with the provided U-bolt. see diagram 9) Bracket F ( right ) attaches to the outside of the motorcycle frame just under the rear foot peg and above the frame weld with the provided U-bolt. see diagram 10) Bolt brackets C and D to the top rear of the receiver hitch. 11) Bolt brackets E and F to the top of the forward arms of the receiver hitch. 12) Tighten all bolts at this time. 13) Remount saddlebags and check all bolts for tightness. 1. Place your motorcycle on a smooth level surface and attach leveling jack stands. 2. Assemble axles, wheels, and fenders onto the tow-pac hitch cart. 3. Push the hitch mount into the receiver hitch. (this might bea little difficult until you get use to doing it. Removing the paint from the hitch mount and applying a little grease will help.) 4. Place the hitch pin through the receiver hitch and hitch mount ( alignment plate ). Install and tighten the tension bolt. 5. Align InstaTrike wheels. (initial installation only. Check periodically and realign if necessary) 6. Bolt lean stop braces to hitch. (Bolt inserts from the bottom) Be certain to replace washers/spacers in the same configuration as when you removed them.

Using your new centerstand. To put the motorcycle up onto the centerstand, hold the left handle bar and saddlebag guard rail or grab under the bottom of the seat. Using the ball of your right foot, lower the stand to the ground. Rock the motorcycle from side to side slightly until you feel both feet of the stand touching the ground. Now put all of your weight onto the centerstand pedal (stand on it). Pull up and back on the grab rail or seat using a rocking motion to rock the motorcycle up onto the stand. Remember it is a matter of using your body weight and leverage not lifting!
Getting the Bike Down off the Centerstand: While holding the left handle bar and saddlebag rail or seat, firmly rock the motorcycle off the stand. You can also rock it off while sitting on the motorcycle

REMOVING THE STOCK EXHAUST SYSTEM 1. Loosen the pinch clamp bolt on the left hand muffler crossover pipe. (Located on the right of the motorcycle, where both mufflers merge with the head pipes). 2. Remove the two 8mm bolts that mount the left hand muffler to the frame. Drop the muffler down to clear the mounts and pull out from the collector. 3. Remove the right hand frame cover to avoid damaging it. 4. Remove the 8mm nut holding the head pipe flanges to the cylinder heads. Remove the 8mm bolts that mount the right hand muffler to the frame. 5. Remove the remainder of the exhaust system from the motorcycle and set it aside. INSTALLING YOUR NEW VANCE & HINES EXHAUST SYSTEM 1. Be sure to check that the stock exhaust gaskets are in good shape. If you have any doubts as to their condition, replace them. 2. Install the chrome exhaust flanges (supplied) over the front and rear head pipes. 3. Install the rear head pipe to the rear cylinder using the stock 8mm acorn nuts. Route the pipe approximately 3/4″ beneath the swingarm, leaving the nuts finger tight at this time. 4. Install the front head pipe to the cylinder head using the stock 8mm acorn nuts. Its routing follows the stock head pipe, leave the nuts finger tight at this time. 5. Your Vance & Hines mufflers use the stock mounting locations and rubber grommets. Remove the steel spacers and rubber grommets from your stock mufflers and install them into Vance & Hines mufflers in the same locations. 6. Slip a chrome muffler clamp onto the inlet end of each muffler. Install the clamp hardware as shown in figure 1 (hardware supplied). Leave them loose at this time. 7 Slide the left hand muffler assembly (stamped H641) onto the rear head pipe approximately two inches. Mount the mufflers to the motorcycle using the stock bolts, in the stock locations. 8. Repeat the above step with the right hand muffler (stamped H640). 9. Unscrew all of the hose clamps (supplied) until they are completely loose. Mark the top edges of the heat shields with the location of the mounting clips that are welded to the back side of the heat shield. Position the right rear heat shield (stamped H226) over the rear head pipe and feed the tail end of the hose clamps into the clips. Be sure that each clamp is engaged into both clips. Repeat this procedure with each heat shield.
