Don’t be deceived. The 1100 Magna is not just another Special. Writing off the V65 as simply another boulevard
parade float is like calling a 10 inch switchblade a pocket knife. It’s true, but misses the point entirely. The term
“Special” suggests highly styled motorcycles that go limp wristed when it’s time to perform. But the V65 is a urban
streetfighter through and through, a bike that can kick almost anything flat in a stoplight to stoplight brawl.
What makes this Special so special? In a word, the engine. If you talk horsepower, the Magna speaks your language. Its
horsepower translates directly into an immediate gut wrenching rush unmatched by any other production’. street
machine. To a man, the cycle staff raved about the engine. With its wonderfully potent and flexible powerplant, this big four is a strong and willing worker that hums along happily at 1500 rpm or sings fortissimo at the 10,000 rpm redline. The best part of the V65 is a mid range punch that would do justice to Larry Holmes. Whack the throttle open at 5000 rpm in first gear and the front wheel claws for the sky whilemthe Magna catapults forward. These antics are interesting enough when you’re mounted onman open class motocrosser but when a 589 pound motorcyclemwith a wheelbase of nearly 63 inches takes off like a carriermbased F-14, it gets your full attention.Honda built the V65 engine with technology carried overnfrom the V45, but the big Magna has all new hardware,. it shares no parts with the 750s. Though the designs are virtually identical, everything has been scaled to 1100cc specs. The V65 benefits from Honda’s extremely compact Vee engine design; at 17.4 inches, the 1100′s engine is barely an inch wider than the narrow 750 V four. The Magna’s 90 degree Vee angla sets the two front cylinders low and nearly horizontal, while the rear cylinders stand almost vertical. This right angle configuration produces perfect primarybalance, and a short stroke limits secondary imbalances.

Intake system Fresh air is drawn into the filter box through the intake snorkel 1 , past the carburetors 2 and through the air filter 3 . The cleaned air is conducted to the combustion chamber through the carburetors and intake ports. 1 2 2 3 2-4 Repair manual KTM LC8 Art.-Nr . 3.206.016-E Secondary air system The secondary air system supplies fresh air to the emissions in the exhaust port, resulting in the afterburning (oxidation) of the emissions. A line leads from the filter box 1 to the control valve 2 which opens as soon as the throttle valves 3 are opened. The line continues to the reed valves 4 in the cylinder heads which are actuated by the pressure pulsation in the exhaust system. As a result, cleansed fresh air arrives in the exhaust port. The oxygen content in the air and the high exhaust gas temperature cause the emissions to oxidize. If the throttle valves are closed and the engine goes into an overrun condition, the underpressure in the intake port will rise and the control valve will close. This prevents exhaust backfire (combustion of the unburned fuel/air mixture). 1 2 3 3 4 4 4 2-5 Closed thermostat The thermostat is closed if the temperature of the cooling liquid drops below 75°C. REMOVING THE STOCK EXHAUST SYSTEM 1. Remove the left and right side frame covers to prevent damaging them. 2. Loosen the pinch clamps on the inlet end of all four mufflers, located behind the rear motor mount. 3. Remove the left and right front head pipes. 4. Remove the rear mounting bolt from both muffler assemblies. Carefully slide each muffler assembly off the head pipes and set them aside. 5. Replace the front head pipes. Note : Leave the head pipes loose for later adjustment. INSTALLING YOUR NEW VANCE & HINES EXHAUST SYSTEM 1. Unscrew all of the hose clamps (supplied) until they are completely loose. Feed the tail end of the hose clamp into the clips on the inside of both heat shields. Note : The screw end of the hose clamp should be accessible, but not visible when pipe is mounted on the bike. 2. Place the slip-on head tube into the matching heat shield, wrap the hose clamp around the head tube and give the screw three to four turns, leaving heat shield loose on the head tube. Repeat this step with opposite head tube and heat shield. 3. Slide a T-bolt band clamp (supplied) onto the slotted end of each slip-on tube. 4. Slip the slotted end of tube onto the rear head pipes. The shorter of the two slip-on tubes mounts on the right rear head pipe and the longer tube on the left rear head pipe. Tighten the T- bolt clamp until the pipe is snug but so the pipe will still be able to rotate. 5. Install the muffler mounting brackets to the frame using the single hole in the brackets and the stock hardware. The left side mounting bracket (stamped #206 on the bracket) mounts to the outside of the frame, where the stock muffler assembly mounted. The right side bracket (stamped #207) mounts to the inside of the frame, behind the stock muffler mounting point. 6. Slide a chrome muffler clamp (supplied) onto the inlet end of each muffler. Install a 5/16″ x 1 1/4″ bolt with a flat washer on either side of the clamp followed by a lock nut (all supplied). Do this to each muffler but leave the clamp loose at this time. 7. To determine the difference between the left, right, upper and lower mufflers refer to the number stamped on the bracket welded to the backside of each muffler. The top right hand muffler is D500, the bottom right hand muffler is D510, the top left hand muffler is D550 and the bottom left hand muffler is D512. Note : The endcap bolts should face down and inward when viewing from the rear (Refer to Figure 1) .

1. On a cool bike, parked on center-stand, remove the two button-head bolts securing the key cover on the top of the fuel tank. Set cover aside, and save bolts, they will be used later. 2. Remove the seat 3. Un-hook front clip holding the tank down. 4. Lift tank upward, rotating on rear pin, and place prop-rod in place to secure tank in upright position. (If possible, you may want to find a longer prop to put the tank at a higher angle. This allows the fuel pump to be a bit more accessible. I used a long piece of rod iron, and propped the tank up by its rubber side bumpers.) 5. Pad the area directly under the fuel pump very well with paper shop towels or other very absorbent materials, as gas will likely drip. 6. Disconnect the electrical connector going to the fuel pump.
7. There are two fuel lines going to the fuel pump. One is marked with a white collar that has the letter R on it, the other has a M . Take note of which is which. The R line goes in the middle stem, and the M connects to the stem that is closest to the outside edge of the tank. It is a good idea to take a permanent marker, and write a ” R ” and ” M ” near these connections on the bottom of the fuel filter so as to not forget. 8. One at a time, loosen the hose clamps on the lines, and remove them from their stems. Some fuel will spill. It will stop however; have plenty of paper-towels close on hand. (The hose clamps should be 7mm) Also remove the small gas overflow tube that is attached to the fuel pump. 9. Remove the rear latch that the tank rotates on, and lift the tank off of the bike. 10. Lean the tank forward so as to move the gas forward, and remove the drain plug at the very rear of the tank with a 5mm Hex Key

Digital speedometer, indicator lamps The green control lamp 1 flashes in the same rhythm as the flashing indicator when the indicator is working. The blue control lamp 2 lights up when the high beam is on. Electronic speedometer The electronic speedometer display is activated as soon as the engine is switched on and the motorcycle starts to move. The engine must be started in order for the speedometer to be supplied with electricity from the generator. An impulse must be received from the wheel sensor to activate the display; the front wheel must turn at least one time. TEST All of the display elements will light up for 1 second for the function test. WS (wheel size) The display will change and briefly show the diameter of the front wheel in millimeters. If the front wheel does not turn, the display will automatically change to the SPEED/H mode. If the front wheel turns, the display will automatically change to the SPEED /ODO mode. SPEED/H (hours) display mode When you stop driving and no impulses are sent from the wheel sensor, the display mode will automatically change from SPEED/ODO to SPEED/H. H shows the operating hours. The operating hour counter starts to count as soon as you start the engine. The displayed figure cannot be cleared. Service intervals are indicated in operating hours for some KTM offroad motorcycles, making the operating hour counter a very practical function. SPEED/ODO display mode The SPEED/ODO mode shows the speed and the total kilometers traveled. When the front wheel stops turning, the display will automatically change to the SPEED/H mode. The information will disappear in the display when the front wheel stops turning for 1 minute. NOTE: A Tripmaster switch (part no 583.14.069.244) is available as an accessory and enhances the electronic speedometer by providing the following functions: 2x Tripmaster 2x chronometer for the lap time Average speed Maximum speed Clock Display in miles

Time and Ease: Easy­ Under 30 Minutes Tools/Supplies: Ratchet w/sockets or wrenches, oil, oil pan, oil filter, rags, funnel Step 1: Put scooter on center stand and allow the engine to cool. Step 2: Unscrew and extract the cap­dipstick (1) . Step 3: Unscrew and remove the engine oil filter (3) . Step 4: Unscrew and remove the oil drain plug (4) . Allow the oil to drain completely. Step 5: Install a new oil filter (3) , being careful to lubricate the O­ring on the filter with oil. Step 6: Tighten the engine oil drain plug (4) . Step 7: Fill through the filling hole (2) with approximately 1.7 L of 5W­40 Synthetic or other that exceeds API ST Specifications. Step 8: Tighten the oil level dipstick (1) . Step 9: Start the engine and let run for a few minutes, Shut it off and let it cool. Check the engine oil level again using the dipstick (1) , and top it off if necessary, without ever exceeding the “MAX” level.
