A. It is good practice to first engage first gear to stop the gearbox from spinning (This will prevent the “grinding” noise when reverse gear is engaged) and then place the bike in neutral and immediately engage reverse. If Reverse Gear still “grinds” after the above procedure – check the clutch adjustment to ensure the clutch is not dragging and causing the gearbox shafts to spin. B. Do not let the bike “free wheel” backwards while in reverse gear and the clutch engaged or disengaged (i.e. when rolling down a slope when in reverse) – The reverse gear will automatically try to disengage and will result in a “grinding” sound. To prevent this – Always stop immediately after the reverse action is completed. WARNING! Reverse gear is intended for light duty use only – like slowly backing in/out of parking spaces etc. Do not drive for long periods in reverse. WARNING! Do not attempt to engage reverse while the motorcycle is up on a lift stand. Maintenance Check transmission fluid levels regularly and fill with Manufacturer’s suggested lubricants. Warranty One year on reverse gear parts only. Champion will not warranty the Reverse Gear if it is deemed to be “abused” by the user like: – Engaging First Gear while the Reverse Gear is still engaged and/or – Over powering the Reverse Gear by revving and dropping the clutch and/or – For an Installation Error (not following the installation instructions exactly). Any attempt to modify this product without written permission from the manufacturer will void the warranty and may cause damage to vehicle and injury to persons.

1-Locate and remove the Intake Air Temperature Sensor (IATS) from the stock Polaris Victory air box. Locate the new position for the IATS on the bottom of the S&S air cleaner. Push the IATS in the lower air cleaner cover and turn1⁄ 4 turnin either direction, make sure you feel it lock into place. Inspect from the inside of the air cleaner to ensure that the barbs are locked into place. See Picture 1. 2-Using the stock Polaris Victory air box gasket (PN 5811908) and S&S supplied (Qty 4) M6 fasteners, assemble the lower air cleaner cover to the throttle body using 243 Blue Loctite®on the treads. Torque the M6 fasteners to 72-96 inch pounds. 3-Position the S&S pre-formed air filter onto the lower air cleaner cover ensuring that it fits into the machined groove. 4-Install the top air cleaner cover on top of the filter ensuring that it fits into the machined groove. 5-Make surethat the filter is situated in the machined grooves on both the top and bottom air cleaner covers. 6-Using 243 Blue Loctite on the threads of the S&S supplied (Qty 3) M6 fasteners tighten down top air cleaner cover evenly until seated. Finish torque the fasteners to 72-96 inch pounds. Now you’re ready for breather hose and barometric pressure hose routing. 7-Locate the S&S supplied 3⁄ 16 “reinforced hose and clamps. Push one end of the hose on the 3⁄ 16 “brass barb in the bottom air cleaner cover and slide clamp up around the end of the hose. The other end of the hose is for the Barometric Pressure Sensor (MAP). Route the hose towardthe back of the engine over the top of the rear rocker cover. 8-Remove the MAP sensor from the stock Polaris Victory air box. Remove the orange rubber gasket from the MAP sensor. Slide the S&S supplied clamp over the 3⁄ 16 “rubber hose that leads to the air cleaner. Push the barbed end of the MAP sensor into the 3⁄ 16 ” rubber hose and slide clamp up to the end of the hose around the barb. A small amount of lubricant may be applied to the barb on the MAP sensor to make installation easier. 2 S&S Air Cleaner Assembly 41-0021 (Calibration cardnot shown) Picture 1 CAUTION WARNING WARNING Plastic barb locked in recess.
9-Assemble and install breather hose as follows: A-Cut the stock Victory®hose on the straight section just behind the 90 degree bend as shown in Picture 2 . B-Slide an S&S supplied 1⁄ 2 “hose clamp over the modified stock breather hose. C-Install the S&S straight barb in Victory breather hose and position a hose clamp around hose end. D-Slide the 90-degree end of breather hose over the brass barb on the air cleaner cover and slide hose clamp in place. E-Position straight end of the S&S breather hose over the 1⁄ 2 “barb to connect to the Victory hose. Slide clamp over connection. F- See Pictures 3 and 4 for breather hose and barometric pressuresensor hose installation positions. NOTE: S&S breather hose can be cut for best fit

INSPECTION/ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURE 1. Remove the right engine side cover (see S/M Page 2-4). 2. Check the cable clearance on the N (neutral) and R (reverse) cables. Note: It is not necessary to remove the center inner fairing or inspect the reverse shift actuator. . 6. Push the reverse shift switch to “OFF” and turn off the ignition. 7. Tighten the reverse cable lock nuts. 8. Reinstall the right engine side cover. PARTS INFORMATION No parts are required for this procedure. WARRANTY INFORMATION Normal warranty. After completion of the inspection/adjustment, submit one claim per VIN using the following information only: Template #: GL#5 Flat Rate Time = 0.3 hours The reverse cable lock nuts may not have been properly tightened on some GL1800 units. We have developed a procedure to inspect and adjust any affected units. Please follow the INSPECTION/ ADJUSTMENT procedures included in this Service Bulletin. AFFECTED UNITS 2002 GL1800 units with VIN range: 1HFSC470*2A102303 through 1HFSC470*2A102622 * indicates check digit Any unit in the above VIN range may be affected and should be inspected according to the procedures in this Service Bulletin. 1.) Prior to actually installing the bracket, the first and most important thing to do is a “mock-up”. Attach your license plate to the bracket with any frames, etc. so you’ll be sure that you have the proper clearances. 2.) Since you may come into contact with the exhaust system or parts of it, make sure your pipes are cool and/or you’re wearing gloves. 3.) If you have access to a motorcycle lift or jack, USE IT! And use it properly; with safety straps or any other related equipment. If you don’t have a jack, be sure to do the install on flat and level ground and to chock the wheels appropriately. 4.) If your vehicle is not on a lift be advised that while removing the lower shock nut it may be under tension and to exercise care and the use of proper safety equipment, (in addition to gloves, eye protection is advisable). 5.) Mostly out of cosmetic concern, when first mounting the bracket, try it on in different positions, reinstall the shock nut just enough to hold the bracket in position and take a walk around your bike and see if you like the look. Some prefer the angle mount, others the straight up vertical, or even somewhere in between to match the lines of your bike. Once you’ve decided on a final mounting position, you’re ready to install the bracket. Please note, that if you have purchased the Victory Vegas/Kingpin or Victory Hammer/Jackpot sidemount, only one mounting location is possible. 6.) Please place the enclosed washer on the outside of the bracket, between the bracket and whatever locking nut you’re using. This is to provide a cushion between the bracket and the nut, so as to protect the chrome finish when tightening to the specified torque. Failure to use it will void your warranty. 7.) We highly recommend the use of a torque wrench to ensure proper installation. Since factory torque specification can vary from bike to bike, please check your owners manual prior to tightening or contact your local dealer for that information. For example, a Victory Vegas axle nut will require 65 foot pound of torque, while a Kawasaki Mean Streak shock nut will only require 22. Do not over-torque the fastener as you may damage the finish of the bracket, which, (as stated in the Conditions section of our web site), voids your right to refund/replacement.

2.1 Obtain a small tube of Loctite® #262 (red) for use later. 2.2 Drain the transmission oil. 2.3 Remove the clutch adjustment cover (left side). 2.4 Remove rear exhaust header pipe (cross over exhaust pipe). 2.5 Remove the muffler support bracket. 2.6 Remove the clutch release cover (right side). 2.7 Remove clutch push rod and oil slinger. To be disassembled and modified later. 2.8 Remove the two nuts from the main (rear) and counter (front) transmission shafts. 2.9 Remove the transmission bearing housing (puller available from Champion Sidecars). To be replaced with new reverse gear transmission bearing housing (Trap Door). 2.10 Cover the exposed gears in the transmission with a cloth in preparation to cut the shifter fork shaft. 3 Install New Main and Countershaft Gears NOTE: Gears and Tapered Split Rings are factory matched sets. Do not mix!. 3.1 Locate the shifter fork rod, mark fork rod flush at transmission case and pull out 1/4″. Figure 1 Figure 2. If you pull the shifter fork rod out too far, it will be difficult to realign it with the internal shifter fork. 3.2 Cut the shaft at the mark and push it back in. The shaft end MUST NOT stick out of the transmission case. If the shaft is in deeper, fill the hole with silicone to prevent the shaft from moving in and out. NOTE: Shifter fork is made of non-tempered metal and may be cut with a hacksaw or Dremel® cutting tool. 3.3 Important: Remove stock spacers from main and counter shafts. Spray with silicon remover (Brake-Clean) then, using supplied cleaning pad, clean shafts, new counter and main shaft gears and tapered lock rings (inside and outside) Figure 1 3.4 With motorcycle in neutral, pull both the shafts out and simultaneously push the OEM outermost gears in until seated completely to expose the shoulders of both shafts. The countershaft shoulder should be flush with the gear face. For the main shaft the gear would “hang over” the shoulder a small bit. Figure 2 3.5 Apply supplied Champion Super-Lock retaining compound to the inside and outside surfaces of the large gear tapered split ring, to the inside of the new countershaft gear (large gear) and to the transmission countershaft (the forward most shaft). 3.6 Install new countershaft gear to the transmission countershaft. Insert tapered split ring (tapered end first) into the countershaft gear. Install ring seat tool and spring to counter shaft and new countershaft gear. Torque ring seat tool to 40 ft-lb’s. 1 – Disconnect the negative battery cable from the motorcycle and route it away from any metal parts in the area. 2 – Remove the seat and gas tank from the Victory motorcycle following your Victory service manual for the specifi c model you are performing the work on. Picture 1 WARNING 3 Key Switch Cover and Coil Mounting Bracket Removal 1 – Remove the ignition key switch cover by pulling outward on it. Picture 2 illustrates the key switch cover. 2 – Remove the four socket head cap screws from the ignition and coil mounting bracket that holds the bracket to the front and rear heads. Picture 3 points out the location of the four socket head cap screws. 3 – With the bracket free from the front and rear head unplug the spark plug wires at the coil. 4 – Disconnect the coil and ignition switch at the connectors freeing them from the primary wiring harness. Idle Air Control Hoses and Throttle Position Sensor Removal 1 – Disconnect the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) at the connector leaving the TPS attached to the throttle body. Picture 4 points out the TPS connector. 2 – Remove the Idle Air Control (IAC) supply hose from the air box. Note: Leave the 1.500″ rubber hose attached to the hard plastic IAC supply hose. Picture 4 points out the IAC air supply hose and the 1.500″ rubber hose. 3 – Remove the front Idle Air Control (IAC) air delivery hose from the rubber 90° fitting that leads into the front intake bore on the throttle body. Leave the 90° rubber fitting attached to the throttle body. Picture 4 points out the IAC front delivery hose. 4 – Remove the rear IAC air delivery hose from the rubber “T” fitting that leads into the rear intake bore on the throttle body. Leave the rubber “T” fitting attached to the throttle body. Picture 4 points out the IAC rear delivery hose

1. Warmup the engine for several minutes. 2. Stop the engine. Securely support the machine on its sidestand. IMPORTANT: Take the proper precautions sot hem achinedoes not tip while working on it. Place an oil pan under the engine and loosen the oil fill cap/ dipstick. 3. Remove the drain plug (1) and drain the oil. 4. Remove the oil filter (2). 5. Reinstall the drain plug with anew sealing washer or O-rIngfromthekit. Torque drain plug to the specification listed in the Owner’sManualorService Manual. 6. Apply alight coat of engine oil to theO-ring of the new oil filter. Make sure the O-ring is seated properly in the groove on the filter. 7. Install filter and tighten it 3/4 of a turn after O-ring contacts engine case. 8. Remove the fill cap/dipstick and fill the engine with the amount of oil recommended in the Owner’sManualor Service Manual and reinstall the dipstick /filler cap. 9. Start the engine and warm it up for several minutes and check for leaks. If any leaks are found, stop the engine and determine the source of the problem before starting the engine again. Contact your Victory dealer if you cannot determine the source of the leak. NOTE: After the engine is started, the oil indicator light should go off. If the indicator light flickers or remains on, immediately stop the engine and take your motorcycle to a Victory dealer. 10. Stop the engine and inspect oil level (refer to the Owner’sManualorService Manual). 11. Install the fill cap/dipstick and tighten securely

Follow the Transmission & Crankshaft section of your Victory motorcycle service manual for disassembling your Victory engine. 2-Your new S&S crankshaft and connecting rods will require assembly. S&S connecting rods aremachined to use the Orange Victory® rod bearings that are included in the kit (Bearing P/N 3514390-159). Perform rod bearing clearance inspection as follows: A-Wash or clean all of the following components: crankshaft crankpin, rods and rod bores, bearing inserts. B-Place a strip of Plastigauge®across the width of the crankpin. NOTE: Green Plastigauge (.001-.003″) is commonly used for this procedure, it can be purchased at the local automotive parts store. Do not place Plastigauge across oil holes. Be careful not to allow the rods to move during the rest of the inspection procedure. C-Mark the rod and cap at the separation line with a Sharpie®, Dykem®, or permanent marker to prevent rod caps from getting swapped from their original rod during the inspection and assembly process. D-Install connecting rods and bearing caps in the same order they were received. E-Torque rod bolts to 5 ft-lbs to seat caps. Then final torque bolts to 40 ft-lbs. F-Remove bearing caps carefully to prevent disturbing the Plastigauge®. G-Measure the widest part of the crushed Plastigauge to determine the rod bearing clearance. Do so by using the bands provided on the Plastigauge label. See Picture 3. H-Specification for oil clearance is: .00091″-.00279″ l If the resultant clearance is less than this specification, the bearings will need to be replaced with the thinner black color coded bearings, not available through S&S (Victory®P/N 3514390-067). l If the resultant clearance is greater than the specification, the bearings will need to be replaced with the thicker blue color coded bearings, not available through S&S (VictoryP/N 3514390-027). l If clearance is not within specification, clean old Plastigauge off components and reassemble rods to crankpin with a new strip of Plastigauge and the thinner or thicker bearings as determined above
