Progressive Suspension shocks for your Softail are designed as a direct bolt on replacement for your stockers. Although they are very similar in appearance, they have vastly improved damping and spring rates. Our shocks do not use the remote reservoir system used on earlier model Softail models. 1. Place motorcycle securely on stand or blocks so the rear wheel is slightly off the ground. 2. Per instructions in a authorized shop manual, remove your old shocks. Note location of the mounting hardware. 3. Install the Progressive Suspension shocks using the stock mounting bolts and washers. 4. Tighten all shock mounting bolts to the proper torque specifications (see shop manual for specs) 5. Progressive Suspension shocks have adjustable pre-load to compensate for varying weights. The included wrench or a Harley Davidson pre-load adjustment wrench is necessary to adjust the pre-load setting. Replacement Progressive Suspension, Inc. wrenches are available as Part # SW-784 from most Dealers and Accessory Stores and the Harley Davidson wrench is available as part #94455-89 from any Harley Davidson Dealer. Spring preload is set by us to the lightest setting. To increase preload for heavier riders/loads/passengers, loosen locknut with the inside portion of the supplied wrench or a 1 1/ 16 ” wrench and back it off several turns. Use the supplied wrench or a Harley adjustment wrench to turn the adjustment nut counterclockwise to the desired preload setting. Then tighten the 11/ 16 ” lock nut. Both shocks must be adjusted to the same, equal setting

For Kits 43918-07 and 43919-07: • The side of the wheel with the valve stem and directional arrow is the right side of the wheel. • The left side of the wheel is the primary bearing side. For Kits 43920-08 and 43921-08: • The left side of the wheel has a machined groove in the hub face to identify it as the primary bearing side. • Install the wheel so that the valve stem is on the right side of the motorcycle. For Kits 44055-07, 44056-07, 44057-07, 44058-07, 43538-09, 43549-09 and 43577-09: • The wheel should be installed so that the hub markings are on the left side of the motorcycle. An arrow cast into the rim of Kits 44055-07, and 44056-07 indicates the direction of rotation. A groove is machined in the left-side hub face to indicate the primary bearing side. • For dual brake disc models, install the brake disc according to the Service Manual. The chrome hub cap (2) is not used. • For single brake disc models, install the brake disc according to the Service Manual. The chrome hub cap MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING Chrome parts must be maintained regularly so they keep their original shine and luster. 1. Clean heavily-soiled wheel surfaces using Harley-Davidson Wheel and Tire Cleaner applied with the Harley Wheel and Spoke Brush. 2. Thoroughly clean chrome with a good quality chrome cleaner, such as Harley Bright Chrome Cleaner. 3. After cleaning and polishing, seal the finish with a good quality sealer, such as Harley Glaze Polish and Sealant.

If replacement parts are needed contact JIMS® at 805-482- 6913 or INSTALLATION 1. Remove and disassemble the engine as necessary to remove the left side engine case. Bearings and seals must be removed from the left case. Refer to the service manual for the disassembly procedures. 2. Use an appropriate solvent to clean the left engine case. Also clean the bearing sleeve (1) supplied in the kit. 3. Apply Loctite 620 to the smaller inside diameter portion of the left case bearing bore. 4. See Figure 1. Apply Loctite 620 using a cotton swab to the smaller portion of the outside diameter (2) surface of the bearing sleeve (1). 5. Apply a spare amount of non-drip press fit lube (3) to the larger outside diameter of the bearing sleeve. 6. See Figure 2. Fit the bottom locater plate (1) to the to the outside of the case over the bearing bore. The word “BOTTOM” will be at the bottom of the case when installed at the 6 o’clock position

1. Place motorcycle securely on stand or blocks so the rear wheel is slightly off the ground. 2. Per instructions in a authorized shop manual, remove your old shocks. Note location of the mounting hard- ware. 3. Before reinstalling a Drag Specialties adjustable ride height shock, spin the non-flanged nut all the way onto the stud mount, followed by a bushing-cup, bushing, and sleeve. Then install shocks as you would a stock unit, following an authorized shop manual. With the non-flanged nut spun all the way onto the stud, the stock ride height is achieved. Once you have installed the other bushing, bushing-cup, and flanged nut you can now install the safety E-clip. This E-clip is snapped into the groove near the end of the stud mount where the threads stop. This is to serve as a reference point ONLY – when the flanged-nut reaches it you have lowered your ride height the maximum 2 inches. DO NOT torque the flange-nut against the E- clip (see figure 1). 4. Tighten all shock mounting bolts to the proper torque specifications (see shop manual for specs). 5. Drag Specialties shocks have adjustable pre-load to compensate for varying weights. A Harley Davidson pre-load adjustment wrench is necessary to adjust the pre-load setting. Softail EZ-Steer Instruction Supplement Installation of the Champion EZ-Steer system is similar to the installation of the OEM triple clamps of your Harley Davidson Softail Motorcycle. We strongly recommend that you use your OEM service manual and follow the prescribed disassembly, installation and torque specifications (except where noted below) for the upper and lower clamp assembly. NORMAL TOOTH WARRANTY This extended warranty applies only to the normal wear that will occur to the tooth profile geometry on the rear belt sprocket. Normal wear is considered wear that occurs when the protective hard coating has worn away exposing the underlying aluminum, changing the profile of the sprocket tooth significantly. Warranty is for five years from date of purchase with unlimited mileage. Warranty claims will require a dated receipt showing proof of purchase from an authorized Harley-Davidson Dealer. Warranty only applies to original purchaser of the sprocket. Original owners name must appear on the receipt. All applications of the sprocket require installation of upper and lower original equipment belt guard, or Harley-Davidson accessory belt guards where applicable. Warranty is voided if these items are not installed. Excessive chips found in the tooth profile due to abnormal riding conditions will void warranty. Occasional chips in the tooth are to be considered normal and should not be considered a warranty issue. Decorative external chrome carries the standard parts and accessories 90 day warranty. Staking the flange on the backside of the sprocket will pierce through the chrome, this is to be considered a normal process and should not be considered an issue. All warranty claims must be pursued through your authorized Harley-Davidson Dealer

The majority of HSR42/45 installations use the Harley cable. Installation is simple when the installation instructions are followed, step by step. Those steps are: • Remove the stock Harley choke cable assembly. • Remove the spring and plunger from the stock cable. • Remove the Mikuni “Starter Nut” from the HSR. • Remove the Mikuni spring and plunger from the HSR. • Install the Mikuni spring and plunger on the Harley choke cable. • Install the Harley choke cable with the fitted Mikuni spring and plunger into the HSR carburetor. • DO NOT use the Mikuni Starter Nut; discard it. • DO NOT use the Harley spring or plunger; discard them. Note: If you do not have installation instructions, you may download them from the www.mikuni.com website in the “manuals” section. If the Mikuni Starter Nut is fitted to the Harley cable, the choke plunger is held off its seat and the choke is open all the time. If the Harley spring and plunger are used, the plunger does not seal and the choke is open all the time. The result, in both cases, is very poor fuel mileage (30 mpg or less). Another possible cause of poor mileage, rough idle and fouled spark plugs is incorrect cable routing. The stock Harley choke cable is very stiff and may not be fully seated in the metal elbow at the carburetor end of its run. This condition is easily corrected. On occasion, one of these errors may have been made by someone else at another location. The unfortunate mechanic who inherits the task of correcting the rich condition, poor idle and poor fuel mileage may have no clue as to the mismatch of parts. For this reason, we include the photos and text to help you discover if your installation is correct.
