Chassis number The chassis number is stamped on the right side of the steering head tube. Enter this number in the field on page no 1. Engine number, engine type The engine number and the engine type are stamped into the left side of the engine below the engine sprocket. Enter this number on page 1. Clutch lever The clutch lever [1] is located on the left side of the handlebars. The adjusting screw [A] is used to change the original position of the clutch lever (see maintenance work on chassis and engine). The clutch is hydraulically actuated and adjusts itself automatically. Hand brake lever The hand brake lever [2] is mounted on the handlebars on the right and actuates the front wheel brake. The adjusting screw [B] can be used to change the basic position of the hand brake lever (see maintenance work on chassis and engine). OPERATION INSTRUMENTS » 1 2 A B
ENGLISH 6 OPERATION INSTRUMENTS » TEST All of the display segments briefly light up for the display function test. WS (wheel size) The display changes and the circumference of the front wheel is briefly displayed in millimeters (2205 mm corresponds to a front wheel circumference of 21″ with production tires). Afterwards the display will return to the previous display mode. Electronic speedometer The display in the electronic speedometer is activated as soon as you press a button on the speedometer or an impulse is received from the wheel sensor. The display lights up when the engine is running. The display is cleared if no button is pressed for 1 minute or no impulse is received from the wheel sensor. The button is used to change between display modes. The + and – buttons are used to control various functions. SPEED display mode / H (service hours) Only the SPEED / H and SPEED / ODO display modes are activated in the condition at delivery. SPEED/H is displayed whenever the display is activated and the front wheel is not turning. It automatically changes to the SPEED/ODO display mode as soon as the front wheel starts turning. SPEED displays the speed. H displays the engine’s service hours. The service hour counter starts to count as soon as you start the engine. The displayed figure cannot be changed. Service intervals are indicated in service hours for some KTM offroad motorcycles, making the service hour counter a very practical function. SPEED / ODO display mode (odometer) The SPEED/ODO mode displays the speed and the total distance traveled. LAP displays the lap times in hours, minutes and seconds. + button Starts and stops the stop watch, lap time is not reset to 0 – button Stops the stop watch, stores the lap time and restarts the stop watch again. The time is reset to 0. A total of 10 lap times can be stored. Basic Tuning Adjustments 1. The following instructions are for basic fuel tuning. Modes 1,2, & 3 are allowing adjustments to increase and decrease the amount of fuel the engine needs. Modes 4 & 5 are for advanced tuning only. DO NOT change modes 4 & 5 when doing basic tuning! 2. To help understand how these modes work, you can think of them as if you were working with a carburetor. 3. Remember each time you push the MODE button you will be advancing to the next mode. Push the MODE button once and you are now in mode 1, push the MODE button again and you are now in mode 2 and so on. You only need to be concerned with modes 1, 2 & 3 for basic tuning. Modes 4 & 5 are for advanced tuning ONLY. 4. If you need to go back to the settings that were pre programmed when you purchased the controller, just look at the picture in each mode, the colored square represents where the settings were when you purchased the controller. 5. Looking at the controller you will see eight lights with numbers under them, this is what you need to look at when changing settings. The #1 light on the controller represents the leanest setting. Advance tuning has two modes in which to adjust. They are called mode 4 and mode 5. In basic tuning, you are changing the amount of fuel that the engine receives, but with advance tuning, you will be changing when the fuel will be available. In each mode you can adjust how soon the fuel delivery occurs. 2. Mode 4 yellow light and blue light represent when the fuel delivery is available during partial throttle acceleration. To adjust this setting, push the MODE button four times and then push the plus or minus buttons to adjust fuel as needed. Only the yellow light will be changing.

1. Be sure the main switch is in the off position during the installation process. Failure to do this will cause the “check engine” light to be set. 2. Remove seat exposing the tool tray and battery. 3. Remove the (2) 12mm Hex head bolts securing rear of tank. Prop up the rear of the tank. 4. Locate and unplug the white 4-pin connector under left side of tank as shown in figure 1. 5. Route Fuelpak as shown in figure 2. Plug Fuelpak white connectors to the factory connectors unplugged in step 4. 6. Connect brown and green wires to the negative side of the battery. 7. Route Fuelpak long black wire under right side of tank and down to the horn as shown in figure 3. Disconnect the factory black / white wire from horn. Plug in Fuelpak long black wire to horn and then connect factory black / white wire to terminal on Fuelpak black wire. 8. Locate the throttle position sensor on the throttle body located on right side of the tank. As shown in figure 4, attach T-tap to yellow / black wire on throttle position sensor. Connect Fuelpak violet wire to T-tap. 9. Using supplied Velcro, mount Fuelpak next to tool tray as shown in figure 5. 10. Reinstall tank with (2) 12mm Hex head bolts removed in step 3. 11. You are now ready to set-up your Fuelpak 1. Remove Fuelpak clear case cover by removing all four screws, save hardware . 2. Turn on main power with key, but do not start engine. Fuelpak display should light up, if not, turn power off and verify the connectors are fully seated. 3. Refer to Fuelpak Setting Reference to locate the Setting Values specific to your bike and exhaust system. If you do not find your setting, visit fuelpakfi.com or call tech support at (562) 921-0071. 4. Starting with mode 1 selected, press the value (+) or the value (-) buttons to input the correct value as indicated in your Setting Value. After entering your first value, press the mode select button to move to mode 2 and enter the value. Continue until you have entered the value for each of the first 18 mode positions. Each time the value (+) is pressed, the value increases by one number. Each time the value (-) is pressed, the value decreases by one number. (Please refer to the “How It Works” section directly above if you have questions about this step. 5. As the next procedure, after you have entered in your values for the first 18 modes, press the mode select button to move to mode 19. Fully twist open the throttle and return to idle position to calibrate the Fuelpak to your bike. 6. By pressing the mode select button twice, move to mode 21 and verify that it reads “0″ with the throttle closed, “50″ at approximately half-throttle and “99″ when fully opened; if not, repeat step 5. Do not proceed to step 7 until mode 21 is verified. 7. Enter any other mode values as required for your application. 8. Turn off power. 9. Reinstall clear cover, tuck Fuelpak under seat area and reinstall seat. 10. You are now ready to ride

1. Remove seat and fuel tank. 2. Remove airbox and left airbox cover. We highly recommend you consult the factory service manual for proper removal of airbox. 3. Route wiring harness under frame bracket towards airbox. (Fig 1) 4. Unplug stock black connector for fuel injectors. (Fig 2) 5. Plug Fuelpak 4-pin connectors in-line with the connectors from step 4. 6. Unplug the TPS connector and attach T-tap connector to the center wire (yellow). (Fig 3) 7. Route the Fuelpak violet wire to T-tap. (Fig 4) 8. Reattach the TPS connector. 9. Route black wire to the front of engine and down to the horn. (Fig 5) 10. Disconnect the factory black/white wire from horn. Plug Fuelpak into horn and plug Fuelpak black/white wire to Fuelpak connector. 11. Route black and green wires to battery negative. 12. Attach Fuelpak to Fuelpak harness and mount under seat as shown. (Fig 6) 13. Before reassembling the bike, make sure handlebar switch is in the engine-not-running position and turn the key on. Fuelpak should light up. Sound the horn. If Fuelpak turns off when the horn is sounded, recheck the black wire connection on the horn and that it is connected to the correct wire from the factory harness. 14. Follow the service manual to reinstall the airbox and gas tank. Disconnect 3 pin factory connectors behind the ignition coils and connect Fuelpak 3 pin connectors in-line with factory connectors. 7. Route Fuelpak harness up to battery area and reinstall coil side cover. 8. Connect Fuelpak black wire to negative ground wire. (Fig 2) 9. Locate factory 2 pin connector with brown and black wires. Disconnect empty connector and attach Fuelpak red wire connector. 10. Connect Fuelpak 10 pin connector to Fuelpak harness. 11. You are now ready to set-up your Fuelpak. The tachometer unit is equipped with the following: ● an odometer (which shows the total distance traveled) ● two tripmeters (which show the distance traveled since they were last set to zero) ● a fuel reserve tripmeter (which shows the distance traveled since the fuel level warning light came on) ● a meter lighting control ● a clock ● a self diagnosis device NOTE: ● Be sure to turn the key to “ON” before using the “SELECT” and “RESET” buttons. ● To switch the odometer, the trip- meters and the fuel reserve trip- meter displays between kilometers and miles, press the “SELECT” button for at least two seconds. INSTRUMENT AND CONTROL FUNCTIONS 3-5 3 Odometer and tripmeter modes Pushing the “SELECT” button switches the display between the odometer mode”ODO” and the tripmeter modes “TRIP 1″ and “TRIP 2″ in the following order: ODO→ TRIP 1 → TRIP 2 → ODO If the fuel level warning light comes on (see page 3-2), the odometer display will automatically change to the fuel reserve tripmeter mode “TRIP F” and start counting the distance traveled from that point. In that case, pushing the “SELECT” button switches the display between the various tripmeter and odometer modes in the following order: TRIP F → TRIP 1 → TRIP 2 → ODO → TRIP F To reset a tripmeter, select it by pushing the “SELECT” button, and then push the “RESET” button for at least one second. If you do not reset the fuel reserve tripmeter manually, it will reset itself automatically and the display will return to the prior mode after refueling and traveling 3mi (5km). Meter lighting control mode 1. Turn the key to “OFF”. 2. Push and hold the “SELECT” but- ton. 3. Turn the key to “ON”, and then after five seconds, release the “SELECT” button. 4. Push the “RESET” button to select the desired brightness. 5. Push the “SELECT” button to set the brightness level. 6. Turn the key to “OFF”. NOTE: When adjusting the meter lighting, the odometer display will indicate the brightness level. Clock mode To set the clock: 1. Push the “SELECT” button and “RESET” button together for at least two seconds. 2. When the hour digits start flashing, push the “RESET” button to set the hours. 3. Push the “SELECT” button, and the minute digits will start flashing. 4. Push the “RESET” button to set the minutes. 5. Push the “SELECT” button and then release it to start the clock. NOTE: ● After setting the clock, be sure to push the “SELECT” button before turning the key to “OFF”, otherwise the clock will not be set. ● To set the clock after the battery has been disconnected, first set the time to 1:00 AM, and then set the clock to the correct time

Shift timing indicator light This indicator light can be set to come on and go off at the desired engine speeds and is used to inform the rider when it is time to shift to the next higher gear. The electrical circuit of the indicator light can be checked by turning the key to “ON”. If the indicator light does not come on for a few seconds, then go off, have a Yamaha dealer check the electrical circuit. (See pages 3-7-3-10 for a detailed explanation of the function of this indicator light and on how to set it.) EAU04923* Coolant temperature warning light “” This warning light comes on when the engine overheats. When this occurs, stop the engine immediately and allow the engine to cool. The electrical circuit of the warning light can be checked by turning the key to “ON”. If the warning light does not come on for a few seconds, then go off, have a Yamaha dealer check the electrical cir- cuit. INSTRUMENT AND CONTROL FUNCTIONS 3-8 3 NOTE: Make sure there are no other immobilizer keys close to the main switch, and do not keep more than one immobilizer key on the same key ring! Immobilizer system keys may cause signal interference, which may prevent the engine from starting. 2. If the engine starts, turn it off and try starting the engine with the standard keys. 3. If one or both of the standard keys do not start the engine, take the vehicle, the code re-registering key and both standard keys to a Yamaha dealer and have the standard keys re-registered. If the odometer/tripmeter/clock display indicates any error codes, note the code number, and then have a Yamaha dealer check the vehicle. CAUTION: ECA11590 If the display indicates an error code, the vehicle should be checked as soon as possible in order to avoid engine damage. Brightness control mode The brightness can be adjusted for the following: the multi-function meter unit panel (item number “1″) the LCD (item number “2″) the speedometer, tachometer, and the fuel gauge needles (item number “3″) Select the brightness control mode as follows. 1. Removing Your Old Filter and Beauty Cover In order to install the new Remote Oil Filter Kit, you’ll need to remove the stock Yamaha “beauty cover” and the old filter and filter cover. Remove the engine parts necessary to access the stock filter as outlined in the V-Star owner’s manual. The parts should come off in this order: 1. Muffler assembly 2. Front exhaust pipe 3. Rear brake reservoir cover bolt and brake cover (the reservoir should not be removed, it can remain in place and be moved aside as needed) 4. Right floorboard (this can be simply loosened, by loosening the two bolts underneath) With the above parts removed, you can remove the Allen bolts holding the beauty cover and filter cap from your engine. There are five Allen bolts holding the beauty cover (so named, because most of the cover just covers the chromed side of the engine There are five bolts holding the cover. Ignore the three on the “Yamaha” cap in the middle – these just hold the Yamaha cap to the beauty cover itself. One bolt is hidd – in this picture – just be the Yamaha ca en low p. The bottommost bolt on the beauty cover will likely leak some oil when you remove it – it holds on the inner oil filter cover. Once you remove the beauty cover, you can remove the oil filter cover, and the oil filter Keep these two “O” rings, you’ll need them for the remote kit Old oil filter. Toss it away; you’ll never need one again! Throw away the old filter, and carefully remove the orange and black “O” rings from the filter cover (see picture above). These two “O” rings will go on the new engine cap in the same order as on the old filter cover. “O” ring for bottom bolt. When the beauty cover and filter cover are removed, be sure not to lose the tiny “O” ring that the bottom bolt goes through. Preparing the Remote Oil Filter Kit Remove the orange and black “O” rings from the stock filter cover plate, and place them on the Remote Oil Filter Kit engine cap – black on the inside, orange on the outside – just like on the stock filter cover.
