1. Each bike varies with regard to welds and gussets. Review the photos first to get the idea of what needs to be done. 2. These photos may not be your exact model but depict the concept of what must be done. 3. Block the front tire securely before removing the top triple clamp so the tire cannot move at all. See photos. 4. Support the rear tire also, just enough to keep tension on the front tire so the forks stay tight. 5. Warning: Once the triple clamp is loose, the forks can roll away from the bike AND it happens very quickly . 6. The main triple clamp nut adjusts the tension on the steering head bearings. Make note of its tension before removing and do not over tighten the nut. It should be seated just enough to take the play out of the bearing.. 7. The top of the gauge/light cluster is mounted to the top triple clamp. You have to take out 4 self tapping Phillips head screws to remove the gauge pod. There is one connector on the back side of that and then it comes off. Then there are two bolts that need to come out with an 8mm wrench to free the top triple clamp. 8. Loosen the triple clamp pinch bolt under the main nut and forks pinch bolts and remove the top triple clamp, taking note of how tight the main nut is, so you can re-tighten it to the exact amount. Remove the tin bearing shroud (cover) and rubber seal making note of how the seal goes on, (lips face downward). 9. Grease your bearings while you have them exposed. (Keep the grease off the area where our frame bracket mounts!). 10. The goal is to allow the frame bracket to clamp cleanly and squarely around the upper half of the head tube. 11. Review your individual bike’s welding characteristics at the head tube. You’ll notice on the head tube there is a “groove” machined 360 degrees around the head tube. Everything in or above this groove must be clean of welds or slag. If this groove is visible all the way around and no welding slag has extended upward into or past this groove, then you’re installation should be easy. Any welds extending into or above this groove must be filed away, but without changing the clamping area diameter. DO NOT file away the paint on the clamping area if possible. Spend a little more time filing carefully and your bracket will stay tight. 12. Each bike seems to have not only different welds, but slightly different gussets. Evaluate your individual bike to determine the best fit. The bracket must clamp squarely and cleanly to the area just above that groove and yet SIT FLUSH all the way around the diameter of the head tube as per the photo in the lower right corner. Do not allow the bracket to protrude above the seal seating surface. Use a flashlight to see up under the bracket where it’s hitting if it’s not Flush. This bracket has clearance cut into it to clear the backbone of the frame

Remove existing control arm end cap and grind the outside flush. See picture below for reference. The swing arm will drop if both sides are removed at the same time. To ease installation, complete one side before starting on the other. Note: there is a left and right. Left and right end caps shown. 2. Install mounting plate assembly 10002351 on top of the end cap using 7/16″ hex head bolt and lock washer in the bottom hole. Use the 7/16″ counter sink bolt in the top hole. Make sure the end cap is seated properly. The end cap notch should fit into the recess on the frame. The pivot arm assembly is shipped on mounting plate assembly; you may remove the pivot arm to make installation easier. 3. Snug up the bolts evenly, make sure the end caps are not crooked in relation to the frame. Tighten both bolts to 25 ft lbs. (Further tightening will be required after the toe in is set). 4. If you removed the left hand pivot arm assembly, remount it now, 10002575-A (pg 20) with seal, bearings (2), washer, nut, cotter pin and dust cover. 5. 1 Insert a long punch (with a good square edge) into the center of the aluminum wheel bearing spacers and push up against the inner edge of the spacer on the opposite side of the wheel (Fig. 1). 2 Using a hammer, tap the punch around the entire circumference of the spacer until it completely slides out of the bearing (Fig. 2). Turn the wheel over and remove the other spacer in the same way. 3 Use a long screwdriver or narrow pry bar and pry the seals out of each side of the wheel (Fig. 3). 4 Using snap ring pliers, remove the bearing retaining snap ring from either the disc or sprocket side of the wheel (Fig. 4). 5 Insert a long punch (with a good square edge) into the center of the wheel bearing, and push up against the inner edge of the bearing on the opposite side of the wheel. Using a hammer, tap the punch around the entire circumference of the bearing until it completely slides out of the hub. Turn the wheel over and remove the other bearing in the same way. NOTE: It may be necessary to tap on the punch sideways at first to knock the center aluminum sleeve off center so that you are able to get the punch on the edge of the bearing. 6 Clean areas where bearings will be inserted back into hub and apply a thin coat of grease around the machined hub surface. Tap the bearing on the snap ring side of the hub into the machined hub surface, making sure to keep it square with the hub as it goes in and only tap on the outer race of the bearing. Once you get the bearing flush with the outer edge of the hub, use a socket or piece of pipe that is just smaller than the outside diameter of the bearing to finish tapping the bearing into the hub. (Fig. 5)

1. Disconnect Battery 2. Lift and secure bike 3. Remove brake-side floorboard 4. Remove exhaust. 5. Remove rear fender 6. Remove front pulley cover 7. Remove wheel, pulley, and brake assembly simultaneously. Now remove front pulley from transmission. (Keep up with the stock nut and lock washer; these will be used during assembly) 8. Remove Passenger pegs; now remove the plastic covers in the frame that cover the pivot tube bolts. 9. Remove the stock shock bolts ( keep for re-assembly) 10. Remove the pivot tube bolts. 11. Remove the stock swingarmb12. Install “new” belt at this time. 13. Install supplied pivot tube, and bearings in RC swingarm. 14. Install shock bolt with red loctite in RC swingarm. (Do not tighten bolt at this time) 15. Insert supplied pivot bolts with red loctite through frame and supplied bushings into the RC swingarm. (Right side bushing has flats) 16. Torque shock and pivot bolts to factory specs. 17. Install belt adjustment bolts and single side keys into swingarm.

The 7l/l-GE, 7M-GTE engines are an in-line 6-cylinder engine with the cylinders numbered 1-2-3-4-5-6 from the front. The crankshaft is sup- ported by 7 bearings specified by the inside of the crankcase. These bearings are made of kelmet. The crankshaft is integrated with 12 weights which are cast along with it for balance. Oil holes are built into the crankshaft for supplying oil to the connecting rods, pistons and other components. These engine’s ignition order is 1-5-3-6-2-4. The cylinder head is made of aluminum alloy, with a cross flow type intake and exhaust layout and with pent roof type combustion chambers. IMPORTANT INFORMATION N 300-008 300-016 EB101000 IMPORTANT INFORMATION PREPARATION FOR REMOVAL PROCEDURES 1.Remove all dirt, mud, dust and foreign material before removal and disassembly. 2.Use proper tools and cleaning equipment. Refer to the “SPEClAL TOOLS” section. 3.When disassembling the machine, always keep mated parts together. This includes gears, cylinders, pistons and other parts that have been “mated” through normal wear. Mated parts must always be reused or replaced as an assembly. 4.During machine disassembly, clean all parts and place them in trays in the order of disassembly. This will speed up assem~ bly and allow for the correct installation of all parts. 5.Keep all parts away f REPLACEMENT PARTS 1.Use only genuine Yamaha parts for all replacements. Use oil and grease recom- mended by Yamaha for all lubrication jobs. Other brands may be similar in function and appearance, but inferior in quality. E8101020 GASKETS, OIL SEALS AND O-RINGS 1.Replace all gaskets, seals and O-rings when overhauling the engine. INSTALLATION 1. See Figure 1. Remove stock front fork stem bolt and washer (if equipped). 2. Install front fork stem bolt (2) and washer (3) from this kit. Properly adjust fork stem bearings. Improper adjustments affect stability and handling, which could result in death or serious injury. (00301a) 3. Perform the steering head bearing adjustment procedure following the instructions in the service manual. 4. Apply a small amount of LOCTITE 243 Threadlocker and Sealant (Blue) (purchased separately) to the threaded stud inside the chrome cover (1). 5. Install chrome cover to fork stem bolt. 1. Use the Parts Checklist included with your hardware to verify the contents of the box. 2. Remove the front wheel, forks and triple clamps as shown in the Honda Shop Manual. 3. Remove the fork tube caps and install the new 1-inch extensions using the new “O” rings provided in your kit. 4. Install the new Triple Clamps. Remember to grease the new upper and lower steering bearings. The signal-cancel device under the lower triple clamp does not require special re-mounting hardware. 5. Install the forks into the new Triple Clamps. Check the steering lock action by turning the forks fully in both directions. 6. Reinstall the fender and wheel assembly. Be sure the brake hoses are routed to allow full travel of the forks.

1. Use the Parts Checklist included with your hardware to verify the contents of the box 2. Remove the front wheel, fender, forks and triple clamps as shown in the Honda Shop Manual. Torque head bearings to 30 ft-lb. 3. Replace the stock fork caps using new seals with the extended caps provided. If you do not already have Progressive fork springs we suggest they be installed for the best results. 4. Install the new triple clamps. Remember to grease the new lower steering bearing. 5. Install the forks into the new triple clamps. Be sure to torque all pinch bolts to factory specifications. Do not over tighten as this can cause undue stress on the new triple clamps. 6. Check the steering lock action by turning the forks fully in both directions. Because of manufacturing tolerances in the fairing mounting bracket the fork tubes sometimes make contact with it at full lock. Usually this can be overcome by giving the handlebar a slight push while engaging the lock. 7. Because the fork tubes are now longer than stock, DO NOT use the clamps that held the brake lines to the stock lower triple clamp. Some models have a temperature sensor mounted under the fairing that may interfere with the plastic cable guide. If interference is noted trim the guide as required. 8. Install the fender and wheel assembly. Be sure the brake hoses are routed to allow full travel of the forks. It is necessary to trim the two upper ears off of the fender upper cover to prevent contact with the fairing during turns. 9. If you have questions please call our EZ-Steer Maintenance The bearings in your EZ-Steer rake kit are normal wear items, not subject to replacement under Champion’s one year Limited Warranty for the product. Failure to follow your motorcycle manufacturer’s recommendations for periodic OEM triple-tree maintenance will accelerate the wear on these bearings. Checking/adjustment of the steering stem nut torque, with the front end lifted, in accordance with your motorcycle manufacturer’s recommendations, is key to reliable bearing service

INSTALLATION The rider’s safety depends upon the correct installation of this kit. Use the appropriate service manual procedures. If the procedure is not within your capabilities or you do not have the correct tools, have a Harley-Davidson dealer perform the installation. Improper installation of this kit could result in death or serious injury. (00333a) NOTE This instruction sheet references Service Manual information. A Service Manual for your model motorcycle is required for this installation and is available from a Harley-Davidson Dealer. 1. See Figure 1. Remove the fork stem cap (1). Bend the lockwasher (2) tab away from the steering stem nut (3) and remove the fork stem nut and lockwasher. Discard the lockwasher. NOTE Always tighten the steering stem nut (3) to 70 – 80 ft-lbs (95 – 109 Nm) before measuring fall away. Lubricate threads of nut with a small amount of clean engine oil. Avoid applying oil to the mating surfaces of the steering stem nut (3) and the new hardened washer from the kit. 2. Install the new hardened washer from the kit (2) and steering stem nut (3). Tighten steering stem nut (3) to 70 – 80 ft-lbs (95 – 109 Nm). 3. Check fall away following the instructions in STEERING HEAD BEARINGS BEARING ADJUSTMENT (FALLAWAY) in an appropriate Service Manual, however, tighten the steering stem nut (3) to 70 – 80 ft-lbs . Adjust adjusting nut (5), if necessary per instructions. 4. Install fork stem cap (1).
