Remove the existing air cleaner backplate. Refer to the service manual. Save the original equipment (OE) button head screw that secures the air cleaner cover. Discard the remaining parts. 3. Remove the fuel tank. Refer to the service manual. 4. See Figure 1. Remove and discard the induction module support bracket. is05912 Figure 1. Remove Induction Module Support Bracket INSTALLATION Air Cleaner Installation Use only supplied air cleaner cover. Use of another air cleaner cover could cause element failure and detachment of the air cleaner cover, which could distract the rider and result in death or serious injury. (00596b) NOTE When servicing the air cleaner, apply Loctite 243 – Blue to the threads of all fasteners. 1. See Figure 3. Install two O-rings (1) from the kit in the grooves around the breather bolt holes on the induction module side of the backplate assembly (2). Install the remaining two O-rings in the grooves in the underside of the heads of the breather bolts (5). 2. Remove the liner from the adhesive backing of the gasket (3). Carefully position the adhesive side of the gasket to the backplate, aligning to the equally spaced screw holes, and press the gasket firmly into place. 3. Insert new breather bolts (5) through the backplate. 4. Apply Loctite 243 – Blue to the breather bolt threads and the mating tapped holes in the cylinder head. 5. Thread the bolts into the cylinder head, but do not tighten. 6. Thread the air cleaner mounting studs (4) all the way through the backplate (2) until the screw threads are captured in the induction module. Do not tighten completely at this time. 7. Alternately tighten the two breather bolts to 120-144 in- lbs (13.6-16.3 Nm) . 8. Tighten the three air cleaner studs to 55-60 in-lbs (6.2- 6.8 Nm) . 9. Install the fuel tank. DISASSEMBLY NOTE See Figure 1. Saddlebags must be removed to insert spacer (1). 1. Using a small flat head screw driver, remove rear fender tip light lens cover (A) by gently prying cover away from assembly. (There is a notch at top of cover to ease removal.) Remove and retain cover (A) and gasket (C). 2. Remove fender tip light assembly (B) by removing two screws, four star washers, and two nuts (not shown) using a #2 Phillips screw driver and a 3/8 inch wrench. Retain all hardware for reassembly. 3. Remove hole plugs from rearmost fender strut holes on both sides of fender. 4. Mark fender on both sides of bike using rear most fender strut hole as a template. Do not contact tire with drill bit when drilling fender holes. Drill bit contact with tire can lead to premature tire failure, which could result in death or serious injury. (00403f) 5. Carefully remove fender strut and drill a 11/32 inch hole through each side of fender in locations marked in Step 4. 6. Loosely reinstall fender strut (D), allowing enough room to slip spacer (1) between fender (E) and strut. INSTALLATION 1. Align rear fender rail (2) from kit with rearmost fender strut (D) mounting holes, making sure lower mounting tab (3) is inside fender (E). Place large chrome washer (4) from kit next to head of button head socket bolts (5) from kit. Insert bolt through fender rail (2), fender strut (D), spacer (1) and fender (E), in that order. Install large unfinished washer (6) from kit onto end of bolt (5). Secure assembly into place by threading locknuts (7) from kit onto ends of bolts (5) from inside of fender (E). Tighten loosely at this time. 2. Install truss head screw (8) from kit through fender (E) and rear fender rail mounting tab (3). Secure into place using small washer (9) and locknut (10) from kit. Use #2 Phillips screwdriver and a 3/8 inch wrench to tighten rear mounting assembly securely. 3. Tighten fender strut bolts (5) to 21-27 ft-lbs.(28-37 Nm) 4. Reinstall fender tip light assembly (B), gasket (C) and lens (A) using original hardware (not shown)

INSTALLATION Do not exceed saddlebag weight capacity. Put equal weight in each bag. Too much weight in saddlebags can cause loss of control, which could result in death or serious injury. (00383a) NOTES Maximum saddlebag weight capacity is 7 lbs (3.18 kg) for each bag. Proper installation of these kits requires that tasks be completed for one side of the motorcycle first before continuing to the opposite side. 2000-2002 Models with Wide Tire Kit 1. See Figure 1. Remove and discard stock screws (1) and washers (2) from fender support. Button head screws from wide tire kit must be installed with button heads on inside of fender. Fastener contact with tire can lead to premature tire failure, which could result in death or serious injury. (00417b) 2. See Table 3. Determine appropriate screw from wide tire kit. 3. See Figure 2. Install saddlebag using screw (from wide tire kit) (1), washer (2) and nut (3). The screws are installed from inside to outside of fender. NOTE If you do not have the appropriate screw from the wide tire kit, it can be purchased from a Harley-Davidson dealer. Table 3. (00406c) 4. Tighten all saddlebag hardware to 22 ft-lbs (30 Nm). NOTE Check that front screws have at least one thread exposed beyond the nut after proper torque has been applied. 5. Install reflectors on saddlebag. Refer to Install Reflectors subtopic.

INSTALLATION NOTE Maximum saddlebag load is 10 lbs. (4.5 kg) for each bag. Do not exceed saddlebag weight capacity. Put equal weight in each bag. Too much weight in saddlebags can cause loss of control, which could result in death or serious injury. (00383a) NOTE Saddlebag hangers must be mounted with the bend in the hanger facing out from the motorcycle. NOTE The saddlebags are symmetrical and can be mounted on either side. 1. See Figure 1. Remove the fender support cover screws from locations shown for mounting saddlebags. 2. Place lock washers (6) on two cap screws (5) and insert through the top holes of the saddlebag hanger. NOTE The FXSTC Does Not use narrow spacers (8) in Step 3 for the saddlebag installation. 3. With the cap screws in place on the hanger, place a wide spacer (7) followed by a narrow spacer (8) on each screw. 4. Thread the cap screws into the location of the original screws previously removed in Step 1 and tighten screws to 22 ft-lbs (30 Nm) . 5. From the inside of the saddlebag install two button head screws (2) with washers (3) through the upper mounting holes in the saddlebag and the hanger. 6. On the backside of the hanger install hex nuts (4) to the screws from previous step and tighten to 22 ft-lbs (30 Nm) . 7. Insert two button head screws through the lower two holes on the backside of the hanger and into the saddlebag. 8. From the inside of the saddlebag install washers and hex nuts to screws and tighten to 22 ft-lbs (30 Nm) . 9. Repeat Steps 1 through 8 for installation of the other saddlebag. Installation with Docking Points 1. If you choose to use the docking points from Kit 53930- 03, repeat the installation of previous Steps 1-8 and substitute the front and rear docking points for the spacers (7) in this Kit. If used without saddlebags, install rear docking point (3) and recess cover (4) according to instructions in Part Number 53968-06C, Directional Relocation Kit. If used with saddlebags, mount rear docking point according to instructions with saddlebag kit. MAINTENANCE NOTE In time, the docking points may wear causing the mating luggage rack or sideplates to become loose. The fit may be tightened using the following procedure. If any fasteners with Loctite are loosened, then the fasteners must be removed, cleaned of existing Loctite and re-installed with new Loctite. 1. Loosen the docking hardware. 2. Rotate the docking points clockwise approximately 45°. 3. Tighten the docking hardware to the appropriate torque values as indicated in the installation procedures. This procedure can be repeated up to 3 times before replacement of the docking points is recommended.
