INSTALLATION NOTE Cover the fuel tank with a clean shop towel to prevent scratching. Damage to the finish could result. 1. Remove the two hex head cap screws and split lock- washers on the underside of the upper fork bracket that hold the currently installed risers in place. Discard the screws, but retain the lockwashers for re-assembly. Retain all additional hardware components that become dislodged from the riser when the screws are removed. 2. Remove and discard the four screws that fasten the currently installed handlebar upper clamp(s) to the risers. Remove and discard the clamp(s). Remove the handlebar from the risers, and carefully allow the handlebar to rest on the fuel tank. 3. Obtain the new slotted risers (1) and hex head cap screws (2) from the kit, and the split lockwashers and hardware components removed in Step 1. NOTE The upper cup washer (A) must be oriented with the flat side up , and the lower cup washer (D) with the flat side down . The ground wire (G) and internal tooth lockwasher (H) are mounted to the right-side riser. 4. Refer to Figure 1 for the correct orientation and reassembly sequence. Install the new risers onto the upper fork bracket using the saved hardware and new screws. Snug the riser screws, but do not fully tighten at this time. 5. Center the handlebar on the risers. To make sure that the handlebar is centered, verify that the knurled areas on the outboard side of each riser are equal. 6. Position the new handlebar upper clamps (3) from the kit, and install with new hex socket head screws (4). Snug the upper screws, but do not fully tighten. Improperly aligned handlebars can contact the fuel tank when turned to the left or right. Contact with the fuel tank can cause cosmetic damage. (00372a) 7. Slowly turn the front wheel to the full right fork stop and then the full left fork stop to be sure the handlebar does not contact the fuel tank. If contact occurs and the handlebars are properly centered, raise the handlebar angle as necessary until proper clearance is attained. 8. Tighten the upper handlebar-clamp screws as follows: a. Tighten the front screws to 12-15 ft-lbs (16-20 Nm) . b. Tighten the rear screws to 12-15 ft-lbs (16-20 Nm) . c. Tighten the front screws to 12-15 ft-lbs (16-20 Nm) . NOTE The gap between the upper clamps and the risers should be equal at the front and rear of the handlebar after tightening. 9. One at a time, remove the riser bolts installed in Step 4. Apply two drops of Loctite® 271 (Red) to the bolt threads and re-install. Tighten the riser bolts to 50-60 ft-lbs (68-81 Nm)

These kits fit all 2004 and later XL Sportster® model motorcy- BRAKE LEVER INSTALLATION Removing the Brake Lever Do not remove or install the master cylinder assembly without first positioning a 5/32-inch (4 mm) thick insert between the brake lever and lever bracket. Removing or installing the master cylinder assembly without the insert in place may result in damage to the rubber boot and plunger on the front stoplight switch. (00324a) is 01010 Figure 1. 5/32 in. (4 mm) Cardboard Insert 1. See Figure 1. Squeeze the brake lever and place the cardboard insert between the brake lever and lever bracket. NOTE Use the eyelet of an ordinary cable strap if the cardboard insert is not available. Wear safety glasses or goggles when removing or installing retaining rings. Retaining rings can slip from the pliers and could be propelled with enough force to cause serious eye injury. (00312a) 2. See Figure 2. Remove retaining ring from pivot pin groove at bottom of master cylinder bracket. Save the pivot pin for re-use, discard the retaining ring. 3. Remove pivot pin and brake hand lever from master cylinder assembly. NOTE Do not remove the handlebar clamp or switch housing assembly to remove the brake lever. Installing the Brake Lever NOTE Follow the instructions in Steps 4 and 5 carefully in order to prevent the actuating tab on the brake lever from damaging the rubber boot and plunger of the front stoplight switch

INSTALLATION Remove and Install the Left Grip 1. See Figure 1. Remove the two screws with flat washers securing the handlebar clamp (3) to the clutch lever bracket. Remove the clamp and position the clutch hand lever assembly away from the handlebar. 2. Loosen, but do not remove, the upper and lower switch housing screws (1). 3. Remove the end cap from the existing left handlebar grip if equipped. Remove the grip by carefully cutting it away from the handlebar using a sharp blade or knife. Do not lubricate left handlebar grip before installation. Lubricating grip can cause it to come off while riding, which could result in loss of control and death or serious injury. (00315a) NOTE Make sure that the handlebar surface and the inside of the grip are smooth, dry and thoroughly cleaned of all dirt or adhesive residue. 4. Position the new left grip (4) so the larger flange (5) is at the bottom. Push the grip fully onto the handlebar. 5. Fit the grooves (2) on the outboard side of the upper and lower switch housing over the flanges on the end of the grip, then loosely fasten the two screws. 6. Position the clutch hand lever assembly inboard of the switch housing assembly, engaging the tab on the lower switch housing in the groove at the bottom of the clutch lever bracket. 7. Align the holes in the handlebar clamp with those in the clutch lever bracket, and loosely fasten the two screws with flat washers. Adjust the switch housing and clutch hand control position for rider comfort. 8. Tighten first the upper, then the lower handlebar clamp screws to 60-80 in-lb (6.8-9 Nm) . 9. Tighten first the lower, then the upper switch housing screws to 35-45 in-lb (4-5.4 Nm)

1. Allow the motorcycle to cool. 2. Note the position of the OE clamp screws securing the exhaust shields to the exhaust pipes. NOTE The clamp screws are positioned on either side of the exhaust pipe for clearance. 3. See Figure 1. Open the band clamps (1) and spread the bands to remove the exhaust shields (2) from the exhaust. 4. Remove the clamps from the exhaust shields and save for installation. Install Black Exhaust Shields 1. Install the OE clamps to the new exhaust shields. 2. See Figure 2. Spread the band around the exhaust pipes and push the end of the bands to engage the clamp screws. Tighten the screws to hold the exhaust shields in place. 3. Adjust the shields and band clamps to access clamp screws and to avoid contact with other components. 4. Tighten the clamp screws

Removing the Analog Fuel Gauge NOTE The fuel gauge wires are routed through a tube in the fuel tank, and are secured by a clip at the bottom of the tank and, on some models, a clamp on the frame. Open the clip and clamp as needed, and be sure there is enough slack in the wires to be able to lift out the gauge. 1. At the bottom left side of the fuel tank, bend back the flexible clip slightly to free the fuel gauge conduit. Open the harness clamp on the frame if necessary to free the conduit. Gently pull on the conduit to draw the Multilock connector [117] out of the tunnel. 2. See Figure 2. Depress the pin on the socket terminal side of the connector, and pull apart the pin and socket halves. 3. See Appendix B in an appropriate Service Manual. Use a pick (Snap-On TT600-3 or equivalent) to remove the terminals or clip off the wires. Remove and discard the fuel gauge. 4. For Carbureted Models: See Figure 2. Remove the fuel gauge by firmly grasping and carefully pulling up (do NOT twist) on the gauge just far enough to free it from the fuel tank. Disconnect the two sending unit connectors. Feed the conduit and two wires up through the tube while removing the gauge. Remove and discard the fuel gauge. For Fuel-Injected Models: See Figure 2. Remove the fuel gauge by firmly grasping and carefully pulling up (do NOT twist) on the gauge to free it from the fuel tank. Feed the conduit and three wires up through the tube while removing the gauge. Remove and discard the fuel gauge. 5. Remove and discard the rubber gasket. INSTALLATION For Kit Numbers 75084-04B or 75237-03B 1. See Figure 2. Assemble the new gasket (3) to the LED fuel gauge (1) from the kit. Install the gasket so the flat side contacts the edge of the gauge. 2. See Figure 1. Use three of the Phillips-head screws and washers from the kit to connect the wires as follows: Fasten the Orange wire (1) ring terminal to the gauge connection marked “12V and “O” with a screw and washer. Fasten the Black wire (2) ring terminal to the connection marked “GND” and “BK” with a screw and washer. Fasten the Yellow/White wire (3) ring terminal to the connection marked “Y/W” with a screw and washer. 3. See Figure 2. While carefully lowering the fuel gauge, feed the wire harness (2) down into the drain tube until the three short (Orange, Black, Yellow/White) wires exit the hole at the bottom of the fuel tank. Gently pull the wires to remove slack while installing the gauge to the fuel tank. Do not twist the gauge during installation. Hold the gauge firmly and press down until it snaps into place

Loosely assemble the mount and clamp onto the engine guard tube. Without lowers the arm may be mounted on the inside or outside of the crash bar, with lowers it must be mounted on the outside only. Next assemble the bolt, washer, arm & locking pin as shown. Note: You may want the arms to lean outward slightly to give more room for your legs around the fairing lowers. Tighten the front screws securely.(side without the gap) Then the rear. Adjusting the arm angle. Notice that there are 8 locking pin holes in the mount and 7 in the arm. By leaving the pin in the mount and rotating the arm to its next hole will move the arm 50 deg. When you get close to the desired angle you may make adjustments in 5 deg. increments by moving the pin to the next hole in both the mount and the arm. Moving to the next set of holes clockwise will move the arm counter clockwise 5 deg. Moving the pin to the next set of holes counter clockwise will move the arm clockwise 5 deg. This will provide 72 different mounting angles total. Install the large bolt and washer, tighten securely and install your pegs or hi-way boards . Note: When installing boards put the lock or star washer between the board and the arm to prevent them from rotating under heavy pressure.

HONDA VT 1100 HIGHWAY MOUNTS INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

1. Remove the parts supplied from the package and lay them out in front of you. Remove the screws from the mounts and clamps. See photo (1), notice that the two clamp halves (1A) and the two arms (1B) are the same. Notice that the two mounts (1C) are different and are machined at opposite angles. The mounts (1C) can be installed facing forward to the front of the bike as shown in photo (1) or facing to the rear of the bike as shown in photo (2) depending on how far forward you want the pegs to be located. 2. Starting on the right side choose which way you want the mount to face. Hold one of the mounts up against the frame tube. Hold one of the arms up against the mount where it bolts together. The arm should be horizontal or level when the bike is sitting up straight. If not use the mount with the opposite angle. Next while still holding the mount in place at the desired location place one of the clamps behind the mount and start the screws. Snug the screws only leaving them loose enough to make further adjustments later. Next Bolt one of the pegs loosely to the arm as shown in photo (2). Notice that there are eight dowel pin holes on the mount and seven on the back side of the arm allowing 56 possible angles or positions for the arm to be set at. Holding the arm/peg assembly up to the mount select the desired position for the arm and place one of the dowel pins supplied into the nearest set of holes on the mount and arm. Bolt the arm/peg assembly to the mount using one of the large button head Allen screws and a washer provided. Once you have the arm close to where you want it you can make fine adjustments by removing the large Allen screw, removing the arm and moving the dowel pin to the next hole in the mount. Moving the pin clockwise one hole will rotate the arm in the opposite direction approximately ½”. Likewise moving the pin counter clockwise will rotate the arm in the opposite direction. 3. Repeat this procedure on the left side. Sit on the bike. Place your feet on the highway pegs and verify that you have them set at the most comfortable position for you and that they are set the same on both sides. Tighten all bolts and screws securely

1. Place a blanket folded several times over the fuel tank to help prevent any damage during the installation of the risers. Loosen the two 14mm riser mounting nuts located on the bottom side of the upper steering head. Loosen the four handlebar top clamp 6mm socket head screws. 2. It will help having a second person to hold the handlebars while you change the risers. Remove the four screws from the clamps and then remove the clamps. Pull the handlebars up off the risers, pull them back and rest them on top of the blanket. 3. Remove the nuts from the bottom of the risers and remove the risers carefully without allowing the risers to rotate, as this will scratch the clear coating on the upper steering head. Using the bolts, lock washers and washers supplied install the new risers making the bolts finger tight only. (NOTE; again, take care not to allow the risers to rotate as this will scratch the clear coating on the upper steering head). 4. Place the handlebars back up onto the new risers. Install the new top clamps supplied using the four M8 X 30mm socket head screws supplied. Set the height of the handlebars to the desired position, tighten the front bolts first and then the rear securely. (15-18 ft. lbs.) (There should be no gap between the riser and clamp at the front side) Tighten the two riser mounting bolts securely. (20-25 ft. lbs.). 5. Turn the handlebars all the way to the left and then right checking for any pulling or binding of the wires, hoses or cables. YOU MUST! Check to see that the throttle returns freely on its own when the handlebars are at full left and full right turn THIS STEP IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR OBVIOUS SAFETY REASONS! If you have a windshield installed it may be necessary to reroute the throttle cables, wires or hoses around the other side of the windshields mounting hardware to obtain adequate free play and free throttle return. You may also wish to remove the plastic clips or cable tie which secure the wiring to the handlebars and secure them to the brake hose and clutch cable (not the throttle cables) for a cleaner appearance

1. Place a blanket folded several times over the fuel tank to help prevent any damage during the installation of the risers. Using a small screwdriver pry out the plastic caps covering the handlebar clamp bolts. 2. Reroute the clutch cable behind the steering head as follows. Remove the clutch cable from the lever and perch. To do this first loosen the cable adjuster lock nut and then the adjuster as far as possible to give its maximum free play. Align their slots with the slot in the perch so that the cable may slide out. Standing in front of the handlebars grasp the clutch cable firmly trying to pull it out of the adjuster with one hand while pulling in the lever with the other hand. Now release the lever rapidly. Repeat several times if needed while keeping outward tension on the cable until the cable is out of the adjuster then slide it out thru the slots and remove the cable end from the lever. Reroute the clutch cable behind the steering head this will allow the additional slack needed when moving the handlebars back with the new risers (see photo). Replace the cable into the perch in the same manner. 3. It will help having a second person to hold the handlebars while you change the risers. Remove the four Allen bolts from the clamps and then remove the clamps. Pull the handlebars up off the risers, pull them back and rest them on top of the blanket. 4. Remove the Allen bolts from the center of the risers while holding the 14mm nut on the bottom side of the steering head with a wrench. Remove the risers leaving the large washer on the top side of the steering head in place. Using the bolts and lock washers supplied and the original heavy or thick washer install the new risers making the bolts finger tight only. 5. Place the handlebars back up onto the new risers. Install the new top clamps supplied using the four Allen bolts remover earlier. Set the height of the handlebars to the desired position, tighten the front bolts first and then the rear securely. (15-18 ft. lbs.) (There should be no gap between the riser and clamp at the front side) Tighten the two riser mounting bolts securely. (20-25 ft. lbs.). Replace the plastic bolt caps.

INSTALLATION NOTE if the motorcycle is equipped with the optional Harley-Davidson Smart Siren, the main fuse MUST be removed BEFORE the alarm is activated. This WILL happen within 5 seconds of turning the ignition switch to the OFF position (except for HD- Japan models). If the main fuse is not removed promptly, the siren WILL SOUND. 1. Refer to the service manual and follow the instructions given to remove the main fuse. 2. For FLHT, FLHTC, FLHX, FLHXXX and FLTRX models: Remove the outer fairing per the instructions in the service manual. For FLHR models: Follow the instructions in the service manual to remove only the handlebar clamp shroud. Removing the nacelle is not necessary. a. Remove the windshield and headlamp door. Remove the headlamp housing assembly. b. Release the chrome trim strip at the top of the nacelle. c. Remove the two Phillips screws beneath the fork lock plate. d. Loosen the Phillips screw at the front of the handlebar clamp shroud, and the four acorn nuts on the side of the headlamp nacelle. e. Raise the shroud slightly, separate the nacelle halves and slide the shroud forward to remove it from the nacelle. NOTE Before disconnecting the handlebar switch wiring, note the wire routing. 3. For ALL models: Refer to the service manual. Disconnect the right-side handlebar MOLEX socket housing from the black six-way main harness pin housing [22B] inside the fairing or headlamp nacelle
