Break-in of this camshaft is important and you should adhere to all of the following instructions. It is also very important to use plenty of engine assembly lubricant, recommended is Coastal Engine Assembly Lube or Clevite 77, both are available from most automotive supply companies. We recommend you change the engine oil before the initial start-up of the engine after the assembly. Then change the oil again after the break-in of the cams to remove the excess
phosphate from the coated cams. These steps will help ensure that the camshaft breaks-in properly and that you have a long lasting product. Using full synthetic engine oil during break-in is not recommended but, is OK to use after the one-hour break-in period is over. Following a regular maintenance schedule is the best way to ensure durability and performance over the long run. Cleanliness is always a good place to start. Make sure the motorcycle is cleaned thoroughly before you start. It would be advisable to use an engine degreaser on the frame and the engine. Remove the fuel tank and thoroughly clean the inside of the frame rails, around the carburetor, and behind the radiators. Be sure to remove the ignition coil assembly and using high-pressure air, clean the spark plug hole out before the plug is removed. This will ensure a clean engine during the assembly process and less of a chance of thread damage and/or dirt contamination in the engine during reassembly

NOTICE: The front wheels of the vehicle must be maintained in the straight ahead position and the steering column must be in the LOCK position before disconnecting the steering column or intermediate shaft. Failure to follow these procedures will cause improper alignment of some components during installation and result in damage to the SIR coil assembly. NOTICE: Once the steering column is removed from the vehicle, the column is extremely susceptible to damage. Dropping the column assembly on its end could collapse the steering shaft or loosen the plastic injections that maintain column rigidity. Leaning on the column assembly could cause the jacket to bend or deform. Any of the above damage could impair the columns collapsible design. If it is necessary to remove the steering wheel. Under no condition should the end of the shaft be hammered on, as hammering could loosen the plastic injections which maintain column rigidity. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. 11. Disable Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system. Remove the steering wheel. Remove the SIR coil. Remove the ignition lock cylinder. Disconnect the theft deterrent immobilizer connector. Remove the immobilizer. Remove the ignition switch. Remove the windshield washer switch.

INSTALLATION Prepare Motorcycle for Service 1. See the Owner’s Manual and remove the seat. To prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause death or serious injury, disconnect battery cables (negative (-) cable first) before proceeding. (00307a) 2. Install a Tour-Pak Rack kit (53276-04, 53118-98A or 53260-02) according to the Instruction Sheet contained in the kit. 5. For FLHX and FLTR models: Install Antenna Relocation kit according to the instruction sheet in that kit. NOTE Discard antenna mounts from antenna relocation kit and use mounts supplied with this kit. To open the Tour-Pak prior to installing the Tour-Pak lock, insert a flat head screwdriver into the lock location and turn clockwise while pulling up on the lid. 6. Install the Tour-Pak onto the Tour-Pak Rack using the hardware included in the Tour-Pak Rack kit according to Instruction Sheet included with that kit. Install Tour-Pak Components
