he speed sensor is on the left side (looking from the back towards the front of the motorcycle). Just FYI, here is the speed sensor coming off of the drive shaft behind the left saddlebag. – 7/2 -The speed sensor connection for the Speedo Healer is behind this red cover. Take off the seat. There are two screws. One pointed out by the arrow and one on the opposite side. Also, remove the screw on the red cover. After removing the screw on the red cover, remove the cover by pulling it straight away from the bike. It is held on by 2 rubber grommets. – 7/3 -The arrow points to the speed sensor coupler. Pull the connection apart. There is a little tab holding the connector together that will need to be depressed in order to get it apart. – 7/4 -Hook the SH harness into the appropriate connectors. It only goes one way. The Yamaha plug and go kit works perfectly with no splicing required. Here is a close-up of the connection. – 7/5 -Run the cable up under the bar towards the battery and hook the wires up to the Speedo Healer unit. – 76 -The speedo healer fits nicely right behind the battery. You can barely see it next to the intercom. Note, none of the wires in this example have been secured yet. Put the red cover back on. Figure out the error that needs to be adjusted and make the adjustments to the Speed Healer per their instructions. Put the seat back on and you’re good to go. Be sure to verify that your adjustment was correct before believing your speedometer to be accurate. With the right adjustment, it will be, but don’t wait for a cop to tell you that you miscalculated! The electronic cruise control was not affected by the installation of this unit. I ended up setting mine to -7.5% after chasing my wife’s ’03 Vue for a couple of times. I ended up reading 59mph to her 60mph (previously it read 65mph to her 60mph) which is right where I wanted it since her speedometer reads a little fast, too. My back tire is about halfway worn. UNDER HOOD INSTALLATION Connecting the Cruise Control Cable to the Throttle NOTE: Prior to attaching servo cable to throttle, locate an accessible area to mount the cruise control servo, but do not mount it. Leave the servo in this area (unmounted) and route cable to throttle attachment area. CAUTION: Attach the cruise control cable so that it parallels the existing throttle cable as nearly as possible. The mounting point chosen should have between 1-1/2″ to 2″ total linkage travel. It must operate smoothly by hand. There should be at least 5 beads between the throttle connector and servo cable end. The cable must pull in a straight line from throttle linkage. Some vehicles that do not have enough total linkage travel have to be connected at the accelerator pedal. The bead chain and servo cable end must be inserted into the bead chain connector. Then the bead chain coupling sleeve must slide over bead chain connector to insure that the end will not hang in the connector. The actuator spool is installed in the CIU housing with the actuator cable. The actuator spool is rotated to fully extend the cable. 2nd step. The carburettor cable and spool are installed and the other end of the carburettor cable is attached to the carburettors. Note the position of the roll pin. It is nearly contacting the end of the groove in the actuator spool. The free play in the carburettor cable must be adjusted so that the cable outer can be pulled out 2 ~ 3mm before the carburettors start to open. This ensures that the cruise control cannot prevent the carburettors returning to idle. If more free play is allowed the response of the cruise control is compromised. This adjustment of free play is usually performed after final assembly of the CIU is completed and the CIU is in its final location. This is because flexing the cable does effect the free play. It is shown at this stage in these diagrams to improve clarity. After this adjustment is performed, the carburettor cable adjustment MUST NOT BE MOVED. All future adjustments of free play in the throttle must be performed on the throttle cable from the throttle grip. If incorrect free play in this cable is suspected due to inconsistent cruise operation or because of inconsistent idle speed, the adjusters on the throttle cable from the hand grip must be backed all the way off to give as much free play as possible. If this does not result in AT LEAST 5mm of free play in the throttle cable, the throttle cable must be removed from the hand grip or CIU before adjustment of the carburettor cable is attempted. This is crucial because the amount of free play in the throttle cable also effects the apparent free play in the carburettor cable.

We recommend that you take power from a non-critical circuit such as the heated grip circuit. Any power supply wire that is green with a black trace (stripe) is a fused, switched 12V supply. That is, there is a fuse in the line, and the ignition switch turns the power to the wire on and off, and it is NOT powered when the ignition switch is in the ‘park’ position (side lights turned on). Because the ignition switch also powers the ABS system, if the heated grip circuit is live, in theory the ABS system, and therefore the brake light system, will also be live. • On the bikes that we have fitted the cruise control to, there is a three way plug behind the headlight, that goes to the heated hand grip switch (on the right side handlebar). This plug has one green/black wire, a black wire and an orange wire. This photo is taken looking down below the bike’s instruments on the right side. The plug is circled. • This photo is taken from the front of the bike looking back through the head light cavity, under the bikes instruments. The plug is circled. • This is a convenient and accessible location to pick up power for the cruise control. The cruise control orange power wire should be connected to the green/black power wire for the heated grips.

Undo both quick release fasteners at the rear of the panel. • Undo the quick release fastener at the lower front edge of the cover, inside the cover. The hole circled at lower right in the photo below is for this fastener. • Pull the cover outwards to disengage the fasteners. There is a grommet and post at the upper front edge of the cover, circled at upper right in the photo. Pull the cover out to disengage the post. Remove the cover. • Repeat for the cover on the other side of the bike. Remove the plastic side covers on both sides of the bike. • Pull the side covers out to disengage the mounting posts from the mounting grommets. Undo and remove the three mounting screws circled in the photo. Ease the cover out from the join with the top fuel tank cover. • Repeat for the other side cover. Disconnect the negative battery terminal. • Loosen and remove the terminal screw. Ensure the lead cannot touch the battery terminal. Remove the fuel tank. • Remove the fairing screws on both sides. • Remove the fuel pump cover
