Mount the shock & adjuster as you would your stock shock & adjuster per your authorized shop manual (with the rebound adjustment at the bottom) noting the following: n As you mount the shock, feed the Remote Adjustable Pre-Load adjuster through the same path as the stock line was routed to the same location. n Do not loosen or attempt to rotate the line between the shock and the adjuster. n Make sure the shock rebound adjustment is facing the right side of the motorcycle and the pressure valve is facing forward. n Tighten shock bolts to the proper torque specifications (refer to your manual). n Mount the adjuster to the supplied mounting bracket using the supplied M6-1.0X8mm SHCS fasteners and torque them to 80-90 in/lbs (9-10 N-m) as in figure 3. Then mount the bracket and adjuster to the bike in the same location as the stock preload adjuster/bracket using the stock bolts as shown in figure 4. Check banjo-bolt to cylinder clearance and adjust if necessary via tolerances in mounting bracket holes. n Using the supplied zip-ties, secure the hydraulic line away from any moving parts or heat sources. To adjust the ride height, simply turn the adjuster knob clockwise to increase the height and counterclockwise to reduce it. See main instructions for procedure of achieving optimum ride height.

They below the seat on the right hand side of the motorcycle. n Now either mount the adjuster to the supplied mounting bracket using the supplied M6-1.0X8mm SHCS fasteners and torque them to 80-90 in/lbs (9-10 N-m), then mount the bracket and adjuster to the bike using two EXUP valve servo mounting bolts (as shown in figure 5) – or – mount the adjuster bracket to the frame using those two bolts, then mount the adjuster to the bracket (may require removal of exhaust stay). n Using the supplied zip-ties, secure the hydraulic line away from any moving parts or heat sources.

Check the orientation of the adjuster on the shock body – looking at the top of the shock, the hydraulic line port should be165 degrees (clockwise) from the nitrogen pressure valve (see figure 2) . If it is not properly oriented, you will need to reposition it. To do this, hold the upper shock eye securely in a vice and carefully rotate the Remote Adjustable Pre-Load adjuster the desired direction. This may be somewhat difficult due to spring tension, and may require slight loosening of the locking ring. Also, the spring, shaft, and lower mount may rotate while repositioning the adjuster. This is OK, just be sure to realign it with the upper mount (also be sure the rebound adjuster on the lower mount is properly oriented as noted below). Mount the shock as you would your stock shock per your authorized shop manual (with the rebound adjustment at the bottom) noting the following: n As you mount the shock, feed the Remote Adjustable Pre-Load adjuster through the same path as the stock line was routed to the same location. n Do not loosen or attempt to rotate the line between the shock and the adjuster. n Make sure the shock rebound adjustment is facing the right side of the motorcycle and the pressure valve is facing up and towards the rear (figure 3) . n Tighten shock bolts to the proper torque specifications (refer to your manual). n Mount the adjuster to the supplied mounting bracket adapter using the supplied M6-1.0X8mm SHCS fasteners and torque them to 80- 90 in/lbs (9-10 N-m). Then mount the bracket and adjuster to the bike in the same location as the stock preload adjuster using the supplied M6-1.0X20mm SHCS fasteners & nuts, and torque them to 80-90 in/lbs (9-10 N-m) (figure 4 & 5) . n Using the supplied zip-ties, secure the hydraulic line away from any moving parts or heat sources.

Do not install these spacers on 2008-2010 models. n Tighten shock bolts to the proper torque specifications (refer to your manual). n Mount the adjuster to the supplied mounting bracket using the supplied M6- 1.0X8mm SHCS fasteners and torque them to 80-90 in/lbs (9-10 N-m). Then mount the bracket to the bike using the two rear footrest mounting bolts – sandwiching the mounting bracket between the rear footrest mount and the frame tabs (as shown in figure 4) . Using the supplied zip-ties, secure the hydraulic line away from any moving parts or heat sources. n To adjust the ride height, simply turn the adjuster knob clockwise (looking at it from the back of the bike) to increase the height and counterclockwise to reduce it. INSTALLATION Prepare the Motorcycle 1. Remove the right cover and the maxi-fuse. 2. Follow Service Manual instructions to remove the air box cover. To prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause death or serious injury, disconnect negative (-) battery cable before proceeding. (00048a) 3. Follow Service Manual instructions given to remove the negative (-) battery cable from the negative (-) battery terminal. Remove the Existing Rear Turn Signals 1. See Figure 1. Insert a screwdriver into middle of hole of license plate light cover. Push forward to release tail lamp housing retaining clip. 2. See Figure 2. Identify the white left [19] (1) and black right [18] (2) 2 pin turn signal connectors. is 00231 Figure 1. Tail Lamp Housing 2 1 is00232 1. Left turn signal connector [19] (white) 2. Press the button (1) and separate the pin terminal housing from the socket terminal housing. -J03601 1 4. On the socket terminal housing, press the latch (2) aside and open the secondary lock (3). 5. To release the socket terminal and wire, insert a pin (6) into the front socket cavity. Compress the tang (4) while gently pulling the wire and socket terminal (5) from the back. 6. See Figure 4. Inside the fender, remove the fasteners (1) and the turn signal support plate (2). Pull the turn signal wiring through holes in license plate mounting bracket (3) and remove turn signals. 7. Repeat for the opposite turn signal. Install Chrome Rear Turn Signals 1. See Figure 5. Assemble a chrome turn signal assembly (1) to a chrome lamp support (2) by feeding the wire leads through the wire hole in the lamp support. 2. Feed the wire leads and conduit through the front hole in the license plate bracket and through hole in the support plate (4) towards the front of the motorcycle. 3. Thread the bolt (3) through the center hole in the support plate, through the center hole in the license plate bracket, and through the hole in the chrome lamp support into the chrome turn signal. 4. Tighten the bolt to 100-150 in-lbs (11.3-16.9 Nm). 5. Route the turn signal wires between the license plate bracket and the inner fender. Access the wires through the tail lamp opening in the outer fender. 6. See Table 1. Identify the left and right connector socket housings and match the socket terminated colored leads to the cavities in the socket housing which correspond to the colored leads in the pin housing

Installation 1. Remove rear wheel. Refer to the applicable Service Manual for the proper removal procedure. 2. Remove bolts and washers from sprocket. •If you intend to install Acorn Nut and Stud Kit (Part No. 91734-85), refer to that Instruction Sheet at this time (please note that this Acorn Nut and Stud Kit does not fit Sportster (XL) models). •If you do not intend to install Acorn Nut and Stud Kit (Part No. 91734-85), retain bolts and washers for reassembly. Proceed to Step 3. 3. Position sprocket cover so that its mounting holes align with the holes in the sprocket. NOTE There is only one position which allows each hole in the cover to align with a hole in the sprocket. If replacement bolts, washers, or nuts are required, use only genuine Harley-Davidson parts specified for your particular model. Aftermarket fasteners can adversely affect performance, which could result in death or serious injury. NOTE • See Harley-Davidson service manual for proper torque val- ues; •Aftermarket fasteners may not have the specific property requirements to perform properly. 4. Install bolts with washers through holes in sprocket cover and sprocket, and into threaded holes in wheel hub. Depending on the tensile strength grade of the bolts in your particular application, tighten bolts in a crosswise pattern to one of the torque values listed in the following table: 5. Refer to the applicable Service Manual for the proper procedure and perform the following: •Install axle. •Align belt. •Adjust belt tension. •Tighten rear axle nut to 60 – 65 ft-lbs torque. 6. Check sprocket for radial runout (eccentricity). If runout is visible, mark outer edge of sprocket at the location of runout. Loosen sprocket bolts and tap the marked location with a rubber mallet. Tighten sprocket bolts in a crosswise pattern to the applicable torque specified in Step 4.

Install Ignition Coil to Seat Post INSTALL 1. See Figure 4. Install ignition coil (2) to new seat post using screws (3). Tighten ignition coil screws to 10-15 ft-lbs (13.6-20.3 Nm) . 2. Install coil cover (4) to seat post with screw (5) and tighten to 30-40 in-lbs (3.4-4.5 Nm) . 3. See Figure 1. Place seat post (1) in position and attach lower post with screw (2), washers (3) and dome nut (4). Tighten screw (2) to 10-15 ft-lbs (13.6-20.3 Nm) . 4. See Figure 3. Attach upper seat post with screw (2). Tighten screw (2) to 12-15 ft-lbs (16.2-20.3 Nm) . Tighten bracket screws (1) to 12-15 (16.2-20.3 Nm) . 5. Connect primary wire to ignition coil. 6. Connect spark plug wires to ignition coil. The rear cylinder plug wire attaches to the top coil post. Ensure that spark plug wire boots are fastened securely. 7. Connect rear oxygen sensor connector, if equipped. 8. Reconnect battery negative cable

Installation 1. See Figure 1. Remove two stock screws and nuts from one side of the saddlebag rail assembly. 2. See the Service Parts illustration. Insert two screws (3) through the screw holes from the opposite direction as the stock screws removed from the rail bracket in Step 1. 3. Place a spacer (2) on the outboard screw. 4. Place a Saddlebag Rail Bracket over the rail assembly. Position the bracket with the square notch on the inboard side of the rail assembly. 5. Fasten the screws from step 2 into the Saddlebag Rail Bracket. Torque the fasteners to 10 ft-lbs (13.5 Nm). 6. Repeat steps 1 – 5 for the saddlebag rail assembly on the other side of the motorcycle

INSTALLATION 1. Refer to the Service Manual and follow the instructions given to remove the seat. Perform this installation when the engine is cool. Working on or near the exhaust system when the engine is hot could result in severe burns. (00311a) Installation of any accessory suspension components can affect cornering clearance. This could distract the rider, causing loss of control and death or serious injury. (00431b) 2. Disconnect the battery cables, negative cable first or remove the main fuse if equipped. 3. Raise the rear end of the motorcycle so that the rear wheel is just off the ground. Support the motorcycle with suitable blocking under the frame. NOTE Retain the original fasteners for installation of new shocks. 4. Remove the saddlebags from the motorcycle. See the Touring model’s Owner’s Manual for saddlebag removal. 5. Fasten the air pump, part number 54630-03A to the rear air suspension adjustment valve on the motorcycle. See the Touring model’s owner’s manual for valve location. Add 3-5 psi to clear the line but do NOT exceed 50 psi. 6. Using the pressure relief valve located below the gauge on the pump, release the air pressure from the rear sus- pension. Use caution when bleeding air from the suspension. Moisture combined with lubricant may leak onto the rear wheel, tire and/or brake components and adversely affect traction, which could result in death or serious injury. (00084a) 7. INSTALLATION Installing the Front Docking Point To prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause death or serious injury, disconnect negative (-) battery cable before proceeding. (00048a) 1. Remove the seat and disconnect the negative (-) battery cable. NOTE To keep the fender aligned, complete ALL the following procedures on one side of the motorcycle before starting the other side. 2. See Figure 1. Remove the stock fender support bracket. Position new rear fender mounting bracket from kit (5) into position. 3. Apply Loctite 243 (Blue) to button head bolt (2) prior to installation. Place the tapered side of front docking point (1) against the strut cover. Insert button head bolt (2) through the docking point, fender support and fender. Tighten to 12-18 ft-lbs (16.3-24.4 Nm) . 4. If used without saddlebags, install rear docking point (3) and recess cover (4) according to instructions in Part Number 53968-06C, Directional Relocation Kit. If used with saddlebags, mount rear docking point according to instructions with saddlebag kit. MAINTENANCE NOTE In time, the docking points may wear causing the mating luggage rack or sideplates to become loose. The fit may be tightened using the following procedure. If any fasteners with Loctite are loosened, then the fasteners must be removed, cleaned of existing Loctite and re-installed with new Loctite. 1. Loosen the docking hardware. 2. Rotate the docking points clockwise approximately 45°. 3. Tighten the docking hardware to the appropriate torque values as indicated in the installation procedures. This procedure can be repeated up to 3 times before replacement of the docking points is recommended.
