SERIAL NUMBER LOCATIONS » OPERATION INSTRUMENTS » Chassis number The chassis number is stamped on the right side of the steering head tube. Enter this number in the field on page no 1. Engine number The engine number is stamped into the engine housing underneath the carburetor. Enter this number in the field on page no 1. Clutch lever The clutch lever [1] is located on the left side of the handlebar. The adjusting screw [A] is used to change the original position of the clutch lever (see maintenance work on chassis and engine). The clutch is hydraulically actuated and adjusts itself automatically. Hand brake lever The hand brake lever [2] is mounted on the handle bars on the right and actuates the front wheel brake. The adjusting screw [B] can be used to change the basic position of the hand brake lever (see maintenance work on chassis and engine). 1 A 2 B
ENGLISH 7 OPERATION INSTRUMENTS » Short circuit button The short circuit button [1] turns off the engine. When pressing this button, the ignition circuit is short-circuited. Filler cap To open it: turn filler cap counter-clockwise. To close it: put filler cap back on and tighten it by turning it clockwise. Install tank breather hose [2] without kinks. Fuel tap The fuel tap [3] is located on the left side of the tank. Opening the fuel tap: Turn the knob all the way to the left. Closing the fuel tap: Turn the knob all the way to the right. Choke The choke button [4] is located on the left side of the carburetor. Pulling the choke button all the way out opens a bore in the carburetor through which the engine can take in additional fuel, thus achieving the „rich” fuel air mixture needed for cold starting. Pushing the choke button back in closes the bore in the carburetor. Shift lever The shift lever is mounted on the left side of the engine. The position of the gears is shown in the illustration. Neutral, or the idle speed, is located between first and second gear

FUEL DANGER Fuel used to drive internal combustion engines is highly inflammable and may become explosive under certain conditions. It is best to refuel and carry out maintenance in well ventilated places with the engine switched off. Do not smoke during refuelling or near fuel fumes. Avoid all contact with naked flames, sparks, or any other source that may cause ignition or explosion. Also avoid allowing the fuel to spill out of the filler cap as it could catch fire on contact with the very hot surfaces on the engine. Should fuel be spilled accidentally check that the area is completely dry before starting up the vehicle. The fuel expands when subjected to heat or the sun’s rays. The fuel tank should therefore never be filled to the brim. Close the filler cap carefully on completing refuelling. Avoid the fuel coming into contact with your skin, inhaling vapours, ingestion and siphoning from one container to another using a hose. DO NOT DISPOSE OF THE FUEL INTO THE ENVIRONMENT. KEEP AWAY FROM CHILDREN. Only use super lead-free petrol, with a minimum octane rating of 95 (N.O.R.M.) and 85 (N.O.M.M.). LUBRICANTS DANGER Adequate lubrication of the vehicle is essential to guarantee the safety of the vehicle. Failure to keep lubricants at sufficiently high levels or the use of inadequate, new and clean lubricants may cause the engine or gearbox to seize, resulting in accidents, serious injury or death. Gearbox oil may cause serious harm to your skin if handled for long periods of time and on a daily ba- sis. We recommend washing your hands carefully after having handled this oil. Do not dispose of the oil into the environment. Deliver this oil to the nearest collection company for spent oil or the supplier, or have them collect it. WARNING When putting oil into the vehicle be very careful not to spill any. Immediately clean off any spilt oil, otherwise it may damage the paintwork on the vehicle. In addition, any oil that ends up on the tyres will make them extremely slippery, creating a dangerous situation. If an oil leak should arise, do not use the vehicle. Check and identify the cause of the leak and repair the component involved. ENGINE OIL DANGER Engine oil may cause serious harm to your skin if handled for long periods of time and on a daily ba- sis. We recommend washing your hands carefully after having handled this oil. Do not dispose of the oil into the environment. Deliver this oil to the nearest collection company for spent oil or the supplier, or have them collect it. When carrying out maintenance we recommend wearing latex gloves. FORK OIL DANGER Adjusting the setting on the shock absorbers and/or the viscosity of the oil used in them may partially change the reaction of the suspension. Standard oil viscosity: SAE 20 W. The viscosity grade may be chosen in relation to the type of set-up you want on the vehicle (SAE 5W soft, 20W rigid). These two products may be used in varying percentages in order to obtain the required reaction

Drive chain a) Check condition and tension. b) Lubricate and adjust tension as necessary. 6. Throttle a) Check for smooth operation. Make sure the throttle “snaps” back to idle. b) Check for frayed cable or damaged cable housing. Replace damaged cable. c) Check for mud, debris and ice in the throttle cable/mechanism. Clean out any contamination.

Short circuit button (SX) The short circuit button [1] turns off the engine. When pressing this button, the ignition circuit is short-circuited. Filler cap To open it: Press the release button [2] and turn the tank cap in a counterclockwise direction. To close it: Put the tank cap back on and turn in a clockwise direction until the release button snaps into place. Install tank breather hose [3] without kinks. Fuel tap OFF In this position the fuel tap is closed. No fuel can flow to the carburetor. ON During operation the twist grip must be turned to ON. This means that the fuel can flow to the carburetor. Choke knob When pulling the choke knob [4] fully towards the top, a bore is opened in the carburetor. Through this bore the engine can take in additional fuel. This results in a rich fuel-air mixture, that is needed for a cold start. When pressing the choke knob downward in the carburetor, the bore is closed again. ON OFF 4 1 2 3 ENGLISH 7 Shift lever The shift lever is mounted on the left side of the engine. The position of the gears is shown in the illustration. Neutral, or the idle speed, is located between first and second gear. OPERATION INSTRUMENTS » Kickstarter The kickstarter is mounted on the left side of the engine. Its upper part can be swivelled. Foot brake pedal The foot brake pedal is disposed in front of the right foot rest. Its basic position can be adjusted to your seat position (see maintenance work). 1 N 2,3,4,5, (6) 2 3 1 Compression damping of fork Hydraulic compression damping determines the reaction when the fork is compressed. The degree of compression can be adjusted with adjusting screws at the bottom of the fork legs. Turn the screw [1] clockwise to increase damping, turn it counterclockwise to reduce damping during compression. STANDARD ADJUSTMENT: -turn adjusting screw clockwise as far as it will go -turn it back by as many clicks as are specified for the relevant type of fork Typ WP Suspension 14187D01 . . . . .14 clicks Typ WP Suspension 14187D03 . . . . .14 clicks

The following items will need to be addressed in order to prepare your ZX14 for the Stage I Turbo kit installation. Please refer to your Kawasaki service manual for further information. q* Remove the following bodywork: Tank front cover Seat Side Fairing Lower Fairing Lower Rear Cowl q* Drain and remove the fuel tank. q* Drain the cooling system into a clean container so that it can be reused. (This is best done from the drain bolt in the water pump housing, open the filler cap to vent while draining.) Remember that coolant is poisonous. Be sure to keep it away from pets and children and store it in a clearly marked and sealed container. q* Remove the radiator.Remove the exhaust system. q* Remove the air box lids and rear inlet tubes. q* Drain the oil and remove the oil filter. q* Remove the crankcase breather line from the frame (left hand side behind the throttle bodies) and plug this inlet with the provided rubber cap and clamp.(photo 2) q* Remove the oil water trap line and install an 8 x 16mm allen bolt and washer. (photo 2) q* Remove the oil sender unit (on oil pan). q* Remove the upper radiator shroud (attached to engine). This will be modified later to accomodate the 2″ air inlet pipe. q* Remove the secondary butterflies. (photo 1) 1. Heat the screws on each plate using a heat gun on medium heat. 2. Remove the screws and plates. (DO NOT OPEN THE THROTTLE DURING REMOVAL!)
