Install mounting bracket (stamped 359-P) in the original bracket mounting position, using two 10mm bolts and
one 10mm nut (supplied)(Figure 2). 2. Remove head pipes and heat shields from protective packaging. Place each heat shield on a non-abrasive surface such as a blanket or carpet. Using a felt tip pen, mark the outside edge of each heat shield to show location of hose clamp mounting clips (Figure 3). 3. Slide flanges onto head pipes and lay head pipes into
heat shields. Loosely install hose clamps by feeding tail end of clamp into heat shield clips (Figure 3). Take note of screw head direction (Figure 4). Screw head should be accessible when system is installed on motorcycle for adjustment purposes. Use #20 hose clamps for head pipe areas and #28 hose clamps for muffler areas.
4. Using stock nuts, carefully install head pipes into exhaust ports (Assistance may be required). NOTE: Do not tighten at this time.

LEFT GRIP REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION 1. See Figure 1. Using a T27 TORX® drive head, remove the two screws with flat washers securing the handlebar clamp (3) to the clutch lever bracket. Remove the clamp, and position the clutch hand lever assembly away from the handlebar. 2. Using a T25 TORX drive head, loosen but do not remove the upper and lower switch housing screws (1). 3. Remove the end cap from the existing left hand grip if so equipped. With “glueless” grip: Remove the grip from the han- dlebar. With glued grip: Remove the grip by carefully cutting it away from the handlebar using a sharp blade or knife. NOTE Make sure that the handlebar surface and the inside of the new grip are smooth, dry and thoroughly cleaned of all dirt or adhesive residue. Do not lubricate left handlebar grip before installation. Lubricating grip can cause it to come off while riding, which could result in loss of control and death or serious injury. (00315a) 4. Position the new left grip (4) so the larger diameter portion of the flange (5) is at the bottom. Push the grip fully onto the handlebar. 5. Fit the grooves (2) on the outboard side of the upper and lower switch housing over the flanges on the end of the grip, then loosely fasten the two screws. 6. Position the clutch hand lever assembly inboard of the switch housing assembly, engaging the tab on the lower switch housing in the groove at the bottom of the clutch lever bracket. 7. Align the holes in the handlebar clamp with those in the clutch lever bracket, and loosely fasten the two screws with flat washers. Adjust the switch housing and clutch hand control position for rider comfort. 8. Using a T27 TORX drive head, tighten first the upper, then the lower handlebar clamp screws to 60-80 in-lbs (6.8- 9.0 Nm). 9. Using a T25 TORX drive head, tighten first the lower, then the upper switch housing screws to 35-45 in-lbs (4.0-5.1 Nm)

In order to keep the proper balance on the bike lift, I would suggest that the front wheel be removed first, this is comparatively easier than the rear wheel which will be explained later. Front wheel removal : Remove the end caps, remove the front axle “Pinch Bolt” front left fork ( item (2) in manual ) remove caliper bolts both (2) both sides (2003 model year) secure calipers, secure wheel from dropping while removing axle from left side. Remove front axle, caution : there are (2) spacers on this axle, left & right, make sure you mark them, as they are both different in shape & in length, & must be re-assembled in same order to provide proper cetrallity of the front wheel with the forks & the brake calipers.both spacers have large flanges which go towards the bearing, the right spacer has (2) flanges, the largest dia. goes towards the bearing. ( very important) Now comes the tough part, I had the original stock pipes, so if you have different pipes, or your bike is a different year, (2003) your choices may be different from mine. Remove OEM right side saddlebag, slack off muffler coupling brackets # 8 & # 8a which connect muffler crossover tank to top muffler, this is where the power of the allen socket wrench set will come in handy, they’re pretty tight with the heat,remove top exhaust pipe bracket bolt (item 19 in manual) the top exhaust pipe should now swing down clear of the rear axle. You may be forced to provide more room for the exit and/or re-installation of the rear wheel by removing the bolt which secures the underside mufflet tank on the lower left side of the frame, (item # 13 in manual) then the (2) bolts, ( items # 14 in manual) which will allow the rear muffler body ( lower exhaust pipe ) to be pulled over to the right to provide access for easier rear wheel entry or removal

PREP AND TUNING FOR POWER: 1. Specific applications may show an increase in performance through additional carburetor tuning. 2. Aftermarket distributor curve kits and aftermarket ignitions may be used with the Street Tunnel Ram intake manifold. 3. Use modified or high performance cylinder heads such as our Performer RPM, and port match the intake manifold to the heads. 3. The engine’s compression ratio should be at least 9.5:1 to work properly with Torker-Plus or Performer RPM camshafts. INSTALLATION PROCEDURE INTAKE MANIFOLD BASE 1. Use only recommended intake gaskets set when installing this intake manifold. 2. Fully clean the cylinder head intake flanges and the engine block end seal surfaces. 3. Apply Edelbrock Gasgacinch sealant P/N 9300 to both cylinder head flanges and to the cylinder head side of the gaskets, allow to air dry, and attach the intake gaskets. 4. Do not use cork or rubber end seals. Use RTV silicone sealer instead. Apply a ¼” high bead across each block end seal surface, overlapping the intake gasket at the four corners. This method will eliminate end seal slippage. 5. Install the intake manifold hold-down bolts (We offer an Intake Manifold Bolt Kit #8504 that includes small-head silver Cadmium-plated bolts and matching hardened washers). Apply a small amount of RTV silicone to the threads of the eight inner bolts (1,2,3,4,5,7,9, & 11) (See Figure 1) . This will prevent oil weepage, as generally these are not blind holes in the cylinder head. 6. Torque all of the manifold bolts in two steps by the sequence shown in Figure 1 to 25 ft/lbs. INTAKE MANIFOLD TOP 1. Apply Edelbrock Gasgacinch sealant P/N 9300 to the gasket mating surface and install the gasket and manifold top. 2. Install and tighten the supplied hold down bolts using a liquid thread-locking compound on the bolt threads. As an extra safety precaution, we suggest you drill a small safety wire hole in the head of each bolt and safety wire them together. REMOVING THE STOCK EXHAUST SYSTEM 1. Loosen the heat shield clamps on both front and rear exhaust pipes. 2. Remove the two mounting nuts from each head pipe, located at the cylinder head. 3. Remove both front and rear head pipe clamp bolts. 4. Remove the entire exhaust system and set it aside. 5. Carefully remove the flanges and circlips from the stock exhaust system using snapring pliers. Note: If circlips look bent or twisted replace them with new circlips. 6. Remove the rear head pipe clamp bracket from the transmission cover. Save the bolts, two will be reused. INSTALLING YOUR NEW VANCE & HINES EXHAUST SYSTEM 1. Locate the muffler mounting bracket (stamped 239). Mount the bracket to the engine case, to the rear of the transmission cover using the two stock bolts. Refer to figure 1. Tighten the bolts at this time. Install the mounting bar (supplied) to the transmission housing using the stock hardware. Refer to figure 1 . Note: The mounting bracket should mount flatagainst the transmission housing. Some motorcycles use a stud to mount the stock rear head pipe clamp, be sure to remove the stud from the transmission housing and replace it when mounting the bracket, this will insure that the bracket is flat against the housing. 2. Locate the muffler clamp bracket (stamped 240). Install the bracket to the outside of bracket 239, using the 5/16″x 1 1/4″ bolt and 5/16″ flat washer (supplied). Refer to figure 1. Leave the bracket loose, it will be adjusted later. 3. Unscrew all of the hose clamps (supplied) until they are completely loose. Feed the tail end of the hose clamp into the clips on the inside of both heat shields. Note: The screw end of the hose clamp should be accessible, but not visible when pipe is mounted on the bike. 4. Install the circlips and flanges from the stock system onto both the new head pipes. 5. Slide the new pipe clamp (supplied) onto the muffler end of the front head pipe. Position the clamp in the approximate mounting location on the pipe. 6. Place the front head pipe into the heat shield, wrap the hose clamp around the head pipe and give the screw three to four turns, leaving heat shield loose on the head pipe. Repeat this step with the rear head pipe.

1. Put the motorcycle on a side stand, we recommend a racing stand. Make sure, that surface is solid and flat. 2. Unscrew the bolts from the muffler bracket (Figure 1). Unhook the stock springs and remove the mufflers with welded link- pipes (Figure 2, 3). Completely unscrewthe nuts on the flanges of the stock header tubes and remove the headers (Figure 15).
