1. Remove any loose pads, remove any remaining rubber & glue using a blade screwdriver or razor blade. 2. Rough up the chrome surface with sand paper or by scratching with the tip of a screw driver. 3. Clean any remaining glue residue off using acetone solvent or nail polish remover. 4. Clean both the floorboards and the back side of the rubber pad with rubbing alcohol. 5. Using the supplied small brush and tube of 3M weather strip adhesive, apply a thin layer of glue to both the floorboard and the backside of the rubber pad or pads. Allow to dry for 10-15 minutes or until tacky to the touch. Apply a second thin coat to both surfaces and while still wet press the rubber firmly into place and keep pressure applied evenly for 45-60 seconds

1. Remove the stock pegs using a 14mm wrench on the backside of the peg and muffler mounting plate. NOTE: use the box end of the wrench as these bolts are very tight from the factory. 2. Loosen the two (2) 12mm acorn nuts that attach the mufflers the mounting plate on each side. Next remove two (2) 14mm bolts that attach the plates to the frame on each side. 3. Install the floorboards using the new bolts provided and tighten securely. Tighten the 12 mm acorn muffler mounting nuts on both sides. 4. Pulling the spring-loaded levers out and rotating the lever slightly to hold it in the out position can adjust the Boards. Adjust to the height desired; rotate the levers back to line up with the slots, rock the board and arm slightly so that the spring-loaded pin drops into the nearest hole.

1. Place the motorcycle on its centerstand. Remove the stock foot pegs and mounts (four 6mm wrench size allen screws) 2. Beginning on the left or shift side remove the rubber cover from the shift pedal. (Some WD-40 or armor all will make it much easier). Using a hacksaw cut the retaining knob off the end of the shift pedal as shown in photo #1A. Don’t worry should you ever remove the floorboards you can replace the rubber and glue it in place. 3. Install the left floorboard assembly being sure the fork in the toe-heel shifter goes over the shift pedal. Install the two original bolts and snug them. 4. Locate the black plastic shift bushing (see photo #2A) notice the set screw on the side of the bushing slide the bushing onto the shift pedal with the small diameter going on first and engaging the fork on the toe-heel shifter. The shoulder of the bushing should be touching but not putting a side force on the fork. Rotate the bushing so that the set screw is at 9 o’clock tighten the set screw. Locate the rubber cap provided and install it over the end of the stock shift pedal. (See photo #2B). 5. Next rock or pivot the floorboard assembly up and down noting the play between the bolts and bolt holes. Position the floorboard half way between these two extremes then tighten the bolts securely. Check for clearance between the bottom of the toe shifter and the floorboard (min. 1/8″) by pushing the toe shifter down until it stops while rotating the rear wheel (see photo 2C). If there is not sufficient clearance loosen the two mounting screws and pivot the floorboard to obtain the1/8″ clearance and retighten the screws. If installing the heel shifter into one of the two optional forward mounting holes check for the 1/8″ clearance while rotating the rear wheel and up shifting. 6. On the right side remove the 12mm brake pedal mounting bolt, notice the punch mark on the pedal shaft that aligns with the slot in the pedal. The pedal MUST be re-installed in the same position. Pull the pedal outward and off the shaft. 7. See photo (3). On the bottom side of the footpad make a mark ¾” from the rear and outside edge as shown. Drill a ¼” hole thru the pedal at the mark. See photo (4) lay the brake pedal extension upside down on a bench and place the stock pedal into the opening as shown, while holding the two pieces firmly together and using the hole drilled earlier as a guide drill a ¼” hole thru the bottom of the pedal extension. Turn the two pieces over, using a needle nose pliers insert the ¼” bolt provided from the top down thru both pieces, install the lock nut provided and tighten securely. Carefully align the punch mark with the slot on the pedal and re-install the brake pedal (should the shaft slide inward you will need to remove the chrome side cover and hold the shaft outward using your finger as shown in photo (5A). Install the original 12mm bolt and tighten securely

1. Remove the 9/16″ bolts from the lower saddlebag support brackets located inside the bottom of the saddlebags. 2. Remove the passenger foot pegs and saddlebag mounting brackets by first removing the pegs pivot bolts and nuts then the 12mm nuts from the backside of the pegs. 3. Install the new saddlebag mounting brackets reusing the bolts inside the saddlebag. If you are installing floorboards and relocation arms use the 5/16″ X 2 1/2″ hex bolts supplied in place of the one supplied with the relocation arms to bolt the brackets and arms to the motorcycle. If you are installing floorboards only use the 5/16″ X 3″ socket head bolts supplied in place of the one supplied with the floorboards to bolt the floorboards and saddlebag brackets to the motorcycle. 4. Follow the instructions for the relocation arms and or floorboards

1. If you are installing the relocation arms at the same time as floorboards install the floorboards first per their instructions. When installing the relocation arms with floorboards already installed proceed as follows. 2. Starting on the left side, fold the floorboard up. Remove the socket head bolt and nut which secures the floorboard to the motorcycles stock peg support and remove the floorboard taking notice of which holes the dowel pins are located in. 3. Install one of the 5/16″x1 Ω” hex bolts supplied thru the stock peg support from the backside (The threads of the bolt will face out towards you.) Place the two dowel pins into the holes at one o’clock and seven o’clock on the stock peg mount. Place the spacer blocks backside (stamped with an “L”) onto the bolt and align the hole with the pins. 4. Locate the relocation arm that has an “L” stamped on the backside of it. Place two of the supplied dowel pins into one of the two sets of the holes in the arm that are directly across from one another (180 degrees apart). Place the arm onto the spacer bock aligning the pins in the arm with the holes closest to six and twelve o’clock. Depending on which of the two sets of holes on the arm you chose the arm would, either be down at about seven o’clock or just below nine o’clock. These are the initial height settings and you may select which ever set is most comfortable for the passenger. Install one of the acorn nuts supplied onto the bolt and make finger tight. 5. Place the floorboard with its two dowel pins into the set of holes at the other end of the relocation arm that allows the floorboard to be horizontal or parallel to the ground. Use one of the 5/16″x3/4″ socket head bolts supplied to bolt the floorboard to the relocation arm and make finger tight. 6. Install the right side in the same manner, place the dowel pins in the holes at eleven o’clock and at five o’clock on the stock peg mount, then the spacer blocks backside (stamped “R”) onto the pins followed by the relocation arm with two dowel pins in one set of holes (180 degrees apart). Check to see that the right arm is at the same height or position as the left then install the acorn nut finger tight. Bolt the floorboard the other end of the arm using the remaining dowel pins and socket head bolt. Tighten the two bolts with the acorn nuts and the two socket head bolts securely

• Remove the cotter pins, washers and pivot pins from the stock foot pegs, then remove the peg. • Install the floorboard assembly into the foot peg mounting brackets using the provided hardware. (NOTE: the boards are marked Left and Right) Put the bolt thru the hole with the head of the bolt facing the front of the motorcycle. On 1800C models you will need to place one of the washers removed earlier between the floorboards mounting block and the “U” shaped peg mount bracket on the frame. This will fill the additional clearance on this model. Next install the washer and nut onto the bolt and tighten securely. • Check the button head allen bolt that mounts the Rivco passenger board pivot assembly with a 7/32″ allen wrench to be sure that it is tight. We offer an optional set of link arms (part no #VTX005-5), which will relocate the boards 3.5″ farther forward. These are extremely beneficial to passengers with long legs and for motorcycles fitted with any saddlebags which cramp the passenger’s foot rest area.

1. When installing floorboards at the same time first refer to their instructions and using the longer right side black floorboards mounting block supplied with this set of relocation arms. Leave the final floorboards mounting bolt installed loosely at this time. 2. If installing the relocation arms after installing the floorboards at an earlier date proceed as follows. 3. On the left side remove the Allen screw below the floorboards pivot and remove the floorboard from the black mounting block. Remove the dowel pins from their holes on the block. Locate the left relocation arm (stamped “L” and “R” on their backsides). On the end with the clearance hole (not threaded) Place the two dowel pins into one of the two sets of holes which are directly across from each other (180 degrees apart). Hold the arm with the dowel pins up to the mounting block. Align the dowel pins with each of the three sets of holes in the block one at a time noting the height of the opposite end of the arm where the floorboard will mount. Move the dowel pins to the other set of holes on the arm and again hold the arm with the dowel pins up to the blocks three sets of holes. Choose the set of holes in both the block and arm which will set the floorboard to the desired height and place the arm with the dowel pins onto the block. Using one of the button head Allen screws supplied bolt the arm to the block and tighten securely. 4. Locate two of the dowel pins supplied and one of the Allen screw removed earlier. Place the dowel pins into the holes of the arm which allow the floorboard to be level or parallel to the ground. Place a drop of loctite on the threads of the screw and tighten securely. Install the right floorboard in the same manner. 5. On the right side remove the floorboard from the mounting block. Remove the mounting block and replace it with the longer one supplied. Install the right arm in the same manner as the left using the set of dowel pin holes to match the height or angle of the left arm. Install the right floorboard and tighten securely. Recheck all fasteners for tightness.

REMOVING THE STOCK EXHAUST SYSTEM 1. Loosen the heat shield clamps on both front and rear exhaust pipes. 2. Loosen the crossover pipe clamp, located between the front and rear head pipes. 3. Remove the two mounting nuts from each head pipe, located at the cylinder head. 4. Remove the two nuts from the back side of each muffler. 5. Remove the entire exhaust system and set it aside. 6. Carefully remove the flanges and circlips from the stock exhaust system using snapring pliers. Note: If circlips look bent or twisted replace them. 7. Remove the two bolts that hold the front muffler mounting bar to the frame. Note: FLSTN, FLSTF models require the removal of the stock exhaust system mounting bar. For removal: Remove the right passenger foot peg bolt. Position the motorcycle on it’s side stand with a floor jack under the swing arm pivot bolt on the right hand side. Raise the jack just enough to take the weight off the pivot bolt and remove the bolt and stock mounting bar. Replace the pivot bolt and torque it between 120 -150 ft. lbs. 8. Reinstall the foot peg bolt using the 1/2″ x 3″ bolt and spacer tube (both supplied). Tighten the bolt making sure the foot peg folds in the proper direction. INSTALLING YOUR NEW VANCE & HINES EXHAUST SYSTEM Note: For easier installation on models with floorboards, it will be necessary to loosen the right side floorboard. 1. Check the stock exhaust gaskets to be sure they’re in good shape. If you have any doubts as to their condition, replace them. 2. Unscrew all of the hose clamps (supplied) until they are completely loose. Feed the tail end of the hose clamp into the clips on the inside of each heat shield. Note: The screw end of the hose clamp should be accessible, but not visible when pipe is mounted on the motorcycle. 3. Install the circlips and flanges from the stock system onto both new head pipes. 4. Install the header using the stock nuts, but leave them loose at this time. 5. Install the new mounting bracket to the frame below the right rear foot peg, using the two 3/8″x 3/4″ flange bolts (supplied), and tighten. 6. Slide the dog bone shaped nut plate under the bracket that is welded to the backside of the muffler.

1. Beginning on the RIGHT side, use a 9/16″ wrench to remove the bolt from the back of the passenger peg mount. Remove entire peg assembly. 2. Remove the new floorboards and mounts from their packaging. Notice the Left and Right markings on the backside of the floorboard mounting plates. 3. Install the supplied Right floorboard support (the longer one) with the round mounting face for the floorboard towards the upper-right using the supplied 7/16 x 1 º” long bolt. Apply blue Loctite to the threads. Insert the bolt from the backside where the original peg was mounted. Use a 5/8″ wrench & tighten securely. Note: If also installing with optional Relocation Arms (#FXD005-5) skip step 4 and go onto step 5. 4. Installation of Right Floorboard only. There are two sets of alignment holes on the floorboard support. Insert two of the four dowel-pins into the dowel pinholes at six and twelve o’clock. Place the right floorboard onto the mount and dowel pins so that it is parallel (horizontal) to the ground. Insert the supplied 5/16 X 1″ socket head cap screw through the floorboard mount & thread into the floorboard support. Use a º” hex key wrench & tighten securely. 5. Remove Right Floorboard – Installation of Right Floorboard with Relocation Arm. There are two sets of alignment holes on the floorboard support. Insert two of the four dowel pins into the dowel holes 180 degrees apart. Notice the L & R markings on the backside of the relocation arms. Install the Right relocation arm so marking (R) is facing inward and the threaded hole is facing toward the front of the motorcycle. There are two sets of alignment holes on the relocation arms. Place the arm onto the mount (Match dowel pin holes) in desired upper or lower position. Insert the supplied 5/16 X 1″ socket head cap screw through the relocation arm & thread into the floorboard support. Use a º” hex key wrench & tighten securely

can fix it – let us help. The color combo that would have been featured here, had we not got rained on. As light as the morning precipitation was, a rainsuit seemed silly, and surely jeans and a leather jacket would be enough. However, at the crest of the peninsula, El Nino let his wrath be felt. A full-on downpour of Florida- like proportions dropped from the sky, without the benefit of gulf-stream warmth. Suddenly, wearing geeky-looking Gore-Tex seemed like a very good idea. Riding through six inch deep floodwaters at about 15 mph, the Aero kept a very even keel. The floorboards (first ever on a Honda) kept the feet drier than they would have been otherwise. After a brief stop at a military museum, we headed back to Honda’s HQ for a van ride to lunch at Hollywood’s House of Blues. Detail 101: Witness the huge chrome headlight/speedo assembly, with matching idiot lights set into the triple clamp. We couldn’t form much of a riding impression from our rain-soaked 30 mile jaunt, but we liked what we found. If you’re a big fan of the ACE 750, you’ll be a big fan of the Aero. Although the styling is not ground-breaking, it isn’t a carbon copy of you-know-who (hint: They’re based out of Milwaukee). The detail on the Aero is beautiful, with tasteful chrome accents and well-finished pieces.
