VRSC models: See Figure 3. Place the wire harness from the kit into the area in front of the battery. Do not block the air intake opening. All models except VRSC and 2004 and later XL models: See Figure 4. Install the wire harness from the kit. Place the relay in the opening of the frame under the seat area, and route the long leg of the harness forward along the frame backbone. 2004 and later XL models: See Figure 5. Remove the nuts retaining the ignition module (1) and temporarily reposition the module as shown. Place the relay in the recessed area (2) of the oil reservoir. Install the ignition module. Route the long leg of the harness along the frame backbone. CAUTION 1 WARNING -J02798 Figure 3. All 2003 and earlier models and VRSC: Cut the connector from the white power lead, and replace it with the ring terminal supplied in the kit. 6. All 2003 and earlier models, except VRSC: Connect the white wire with the ring terminal to the copper stud (BAT) terminal of the main circuit breaker. All 2004 and later models, except VRSC: Connect the white wire with connector to the B+ connector on the harness. All VRSC: Connect the white power lead to the battery positive terminal. 7. See Service Part illustration. Connect the black ground wires with the two ring terminals to the ground stud under the seat, or at any good electrical ground point. Secure the kit harness to the adjacent harnesses with cable straps (item 6) from the kit. When routing wires through the front fork, make sure the wires are clear of moving parts, to avoid pinching and possible short circuits. 8. Route the forward end of the harness past the steering head, and route the lamp switch leg of the harness along the left side of the handlebar to the clutch control. 9. See the Service Parts illustration. Obtain the switch mounting bracket (item 11) from the kit. Unscrew the boot from the lamp switch, and install the switch into the bracket. Replace the boot on the switch. NOTE If the boot becomes worn or damaged, or is lost, replace the boot to prevent moisture from entering the switch. See the Service Parts illustration (Item 12). 10. See Figure 6. Remove the lower screw (1) and washer from the clutch control clamp (3), and install the lamp switch and bracket assembly (2). Install the screw and washer and tighten to 60-80 in-lbs (7-9 Nm). 11. See the Service Parts illustration. Secure the lamp switch leg of the harness to the handlebar using the wire harness retainers already on the bike. Snap the retainers into the holes in the handlebar. 12. Remove the headlamp assembly. See HEADLAMP – REMOVAL instructions for the correct model in the Service Manual. CAUTION 3 of 6 -J02798 Figure 6. Install the Lamp Switch on the Clutch Control Clamp i04370 3 1 1. INSTALLATION 1. Remove the seat, inner fender, and ignition coil cover. Removing the rear wheel assembly is recommended for ease of installation, but not absolutely necessary. Remove the nut cup and outer grommet on each of the Works shocks. If you intend to leave the ride height at stock height for road riding, position the inner nut cup SHOC KS SHOC KS WORKS PERFORMANCE PRODUCTS, INC. 21045 Osborne St., Canoga Park, CA 91304 818.701.1010 fax 818.701.9043 STEALTH AIR SHOCK MOUNTING FOR HARLEY-DAVIDSON SOFTAIL MODELS 2000-ON #HDAIR-00 – 02/15/2006 WARNING! THESE SHOCKS MUST ONLY BE USED WITH STOCK SWINGARMS AND ON STOCK FRAMES WITH THE STOCK BOTTOMING BUMPERS ON THE CHASSIS TO LIMIT THE TRAVEL OF THE SHOCKS. AFTERMARKET SWINGARMS, OR MODIFIED SWINGARMS THAT DO NOT HAVE THE UPPER BRACE THAT ACTS AGAINST THE BOTTOMING BUMPERS CANNOT BE USED WITH THESE SHOCKS. INCREASING THE TRAVEL BY ELIMINATING THE BUMP STOPS OR A NON-STANDARD SWINGARM DESIGN WILL ALLOW THE TIRE TO MAKE CONTACT WITH THE FENDER OR OTHER CHASSIS COMPONENTS, AND CAN DAMAGE THE SHOCKS. 19. Place the motorcycle on a suitable frame stand allowing unrestricted access to the shocks. 3. Place a small screw jack under the swing arm to support the weight as well as allow you to position the swing arm correctly to line up the shock mounting bolts. Remove stock shocks. 4. Install the left side (damping) shock with the stock mounting bolt. Make sure that the bolt threads and threaded portions of the frame are free of oil and grease. Grease the shoulders of the bolts and use thread lock compounds on the threads. Discard the stock shock washers on both shocks. Do not use any washers- -including the stock washers on these bolts. Use only the spacers included. The 3/16-inch wide spacers are used on each side of the shock eye. Do not “double-up” the spacers together on either side of the shock eye, as this will cause misalignment of the shocks which can lead to premature wear or damage to the shocks. 5. Put the supplied spacers on each side of the eye. The shoulder of the bolt must protrude a small amount through the shock eyes in order to allow the shock to pivot freely. This is extremely important. With the shocks fully tightened, the spacers should be free to rotate with finger pressure. If the washer is used or a non-stock bolt is used, the bolts will work loose or break because the shocks are in a bind.

The flasher is set to flash continuously as long as the brake is applied. To convert to a 5 second flash and then stay solid while the brake is applied, cut the green wire loop on the flasher. Use electrical tape to protect and secure the green wires to the other wires. 2. Remove the rider’s seat. Locate the wire bundle that starts at the rear of the motorcycle. At the most accessible spot carefully remove 3″ to 3½” of protective wire loom. I know, I know…it’s really beautifully done. Cowboy up! Take it off! 3. Mount the flasher in a location that will not crimp wires or interfere with the other bike assemblies. Locate the +12 volt wire ( GRAY wire with BLACK stripe and YELLOW banding) from the brake light Attach the kit RED wire to the brake light positive wire using one of the Posi-Tap connectors in the kit. 4. Locate the Ground wire ( BROWN wire) from the brake light. Attach the kit BLACK wire to the motorcycle ground wire using a Posi-Tap connector. 5. If you have a Fuse Block with ignition switched relay installed, route the Hyper-Lite GRAY wire to a fused circuit on the (relay activated) fuse block . 6. If you do not have a Fuse Block installed, find the alarm circuit connector under the seat . The alarm circuit has a rectangular connector and five wires, White with Black stripe; White with Brown stripe; Red with White; Brown with White; and Green with White stripe. Use a Posi-Tap to attach the Hyper-Lite GRAY wire to the green wire with white stripe. Pull the wire loom back from the wire. Tap into the wire with the Posi-Tap provided. . 7. If using the Hyper-Lite License Plate Mounting bracket, install it now. OR: Clean the side facing reflectors at the rear of the bike with alcohol. Mount the LED modules vertically on the reflectors so that the LEDs point straight back. Press in place for about 5 seconds. The tape can be used only once! If you goof, new tape is required. 8. Route the BLUE and BROWN wires from the flasher and the LED modules. Trim the Blue and Brown wires to remove any excess wire . Use a Posi-Twist to connect the 3 BLUE wires together. Use a Posi-Twist to connect the 3 BROWN wires together. (see Posi-Twist Connector instructions)
