This mount was made to attach the HD FLH assembled fairing to the 4 fork mounting points on the VTX 1300 using the Memphis Shades mounts. This allows use of the MS allen wrench to quickly remove the fairing if needed. You will have to make or buy a headlight extension. Has to be done first. I used a 5″ x 5″ x .5″ piece of aluminum stock and made one to bump the headlight out 4″. There will be some trimming and relocating of brackets. And you’ll have to buy longer bolts to mount everything correctly. Get the headlight squared away first, then do the fairing. Take a length of 1″ aluminum angle stock and cut two 17″ pieces from it. These will be the uprights for the “H” brace. Measure 5.5″ from the bottom of one piece and center punch for a hole. Drill a large enough hole to slip over the MS mounting hardware on the forks. Start at about ½” bit and notch out as necessary. Center of this hole has to be 5.5″ from the absolute bottom of the angle iron. In the same location, drill out another notch for the bottom mounting point. A drill press is handy for these modifications and you can hog out the mounting notches with a file, dremmel, etc., until they fit. Do the same for the other length of 1″ angle stock but make sure it is a mirror image of the first one. Test fit these by mounting them to the MS fork brackets using the MS bracket hardware. Bottom notch goes in first, then the top notch. I epoxied the back “nuts” of the mounting hardware to the fork mounting brackets. It keeps it in place when you’re taking the fairing on and off the bike. On the top mounting points, I epoxied a washer with one side ground flat to the bolt’s mounting ferule. This allowed better contact between the H brace and the fork mounting bracket. Didn’t want that fairing falling off. Adjust as necessary and after the test fit, remove.

1. Support the motorcycle so the front wheel is off the ground. Next remove the front wheel and fender. Remove the fork cap nuts and loosen the lower triple clamp pinch bolts. Remove the front brake caliper. Some models have a tapered end to the fork tube. Extra effort will be required to remove the tube from the crown. Loosen the top fork cap 1 to 2 revolutions. Use a soft wood block or similar tool (that will not mark fork cap finish) and tap down with mallet to loosen fork tube from its tapered fit in top steering crown. Make sure fork pinch bolts are loose. To completely remove fork of this style, unscrew the fork cap entirely. 2. Slide both fork assemblies out of the triple clamps. Unscrew the top fork tube plugs. Remove the plugs and fork springs. CAUTION: Fork caps are under spring pressure and could cause serious injury. Drain the fork oil by turning the fork assemblys upside-down. 3. Next, bottom the fork tube into the fork leg. DO NOT extend the tube while you remove the allen bolt on the bottom of the fork leg. Turn the assembly upside-down and shake the damper rod and rebound spring out of the fork assembly. Again, DO NOT extend the tube during this. Extending the tube could dislodge the internal bottoming cone, which fits on the end of the damping rod, making it very difficult to reinstall the damper rod without complete fork disassembly. 4. FOR 1″ REDUCTION IN FORK LENGTH: You must first measure the length of the O.E.M. rebound spring. Depending on the model of the motorcycle, the length will either be 1″ or 2″ long. A. If you currently have a 1″ rebound spring, you need to replace it with the 2″ long LA Choppers rebound spring (included in the kit), then reinstall the damper rod in the fork tube. B. If you currently have a 2″ rebound spring, you will need to add the 1″ long spacer, then reinstall the damper rod in the fork tube.

1. The shock mounts with the body up —shaft pointing down. The nitrogen fill valve can be positioned toward the rear of the motorcycle. 2. Make sure that both halves of the upper and lower bushings are in place. NOTE: Do not try to install the shock with only half of the bushings, as this will lead to poor performance and premature seal leakage. The amount of “float” in the bushing set is necessary to ensure smooth operation of the damper assembly. 3. It is easiest to install the shock when the forks are fully extended, however the shock can be installed with the bike on the kick stand. 4. Insert the body eye into the mounting channel on the fork crown. Rotate the shock down into the lower channel. NOTE: A thread locking compound such as Red Loctite 262 or other similar product should be used on the shock fasteners. 5. Install the upper mounting stud and nuts, finger tight. 6. Push the shaft up far enough to insert the lower mounting stud and nuts. This will take a little effort because of the gas pressure in the shock. 7. Torque the upper and lower shock mount nuts to 22 ft. lb.
