INSTALLATION Outer Fairing/Windshield and Auxiliary Lamp Bracket Removal To prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause death or serious injury, remove maxi-fuse before proceeding. (00251a) 2 3 1 2 is 01215 1. Six-position connector 2. Four-position connector 3. Auxiliary lamp connector Figure 1. Disconnect Signal and Auxiliary Lamp 1. Remove Maxi-Fuse. Refer to SYSTEM FUSES, MAXI- FUSE in Service Manual. NOTE Since the outer fairing screws hold the windshield in place, the windshield may fall to the floor if not removed. 2. Remove the windshield and outer fairing. Refer to UPPER FAIRING/WINDSHIELD in Service Manual for the outer fairing/windshield removal procedure. 3. Disconnect auxiliary lamp and turn signal connectors. NOTE See Figure 1. On 2005 and prior year models, the left and right turn signals plug into a 6-place connector located on the left fairing support brace. On 2006 and later models, each turn signal plugs into its own 4-place connector located toward the bottom of the inner fairing on each side. 4. Using a T40 Torx® drive head, remove and save the four bolts securing the auxiliary head lamp bracket to the chassis. 5. Remove auxiliary lamp bracket from motorcycle. Turn Signal Assembly 1 is 01217 1. Triangular opening Figure 2. Insertion of Terminals Through Triangular Opening 1. See Figure 2. Insert wire terminals through the triangular opening in the turn signal mounting bracket included in the kit. 2. Fit turn signal housing onto bracket. 3. Apply a small amount of Loctite (243) blue (99642-97) to threads of hex head cap screw. 4. Tighten cap screw to 15-20 ft-lbs (20-27 Nm) . -J03753 1 of 2 Turn Signal Installation 1 is 01218 1. Turn signal wire Figure 3. Turn Signal Wire Routing 1. See Figure 3. Insert turn signal connector and wiring between bottom of fairing and top of outer fairing skirt. 2. Route turn signal wire under cutout on mounting bracket and place bracket onto motorcycle. NOTE Care must be taken so the turn signal wire is not pinched between turn signal bracket and motorcycle chassis. 3. Install washers onto turn signal bracket mounting bolts and apply Loctite 243 (blue) (99642-97) to the bolt threads. 4. Tighten mounting bolts to 15-20 ft-lbs (20-27 Nm) . 5. Route turn signal leads toward harness connector. Secure loose wiring with tie straps so wires do not rub against any sharp objects

REMOVAL VRSCA Models 1. Remove windshield (if equipped). Refer to appropriate Instruction Sheet for procedures. 2. Remove right side cover and maxi-fuse. Refer to MAXI- FUSE in Service Manual. 3. Remove nut (5), screw (6), and trim ring (7) from head- lamp. 6. Remove lens assembly (8) from headlamp shell (9). Save lens assembly for Billet Headlamp Shell Kit 67704-03 installation INSTALLATION 2004-Earlier VRSCA and VRSCB Models 1. Assemble Chrome Billet Headlamp Shell Kit (67704-03). Refer to Instruction Sheet-J03018. NOTES VRSCA models use Headlamp 68297-05, while VRSCB models use original equipment lens assembly (including gasket and boot). Adapter ring from kit (Figure 6, Item 1) will be used to install billet headlamp assembly on Instruction Sheet-J03018. 2. See Figure 3. Cut the two connectors (1) from existing headlamp wire harness (2). Be sure to cut the wires as close to the back of the connector as possible. 3. See Figure 6. Route new wire harness (2) through the hole in bottom of the billet headlamp shell (A). NOTE Only one 16 AWG wire will fit into pin terminals included in kit. Both black wires (ground) can be joined together, then connected to a single wire, if desired. 4. Tape end of one black wire with electrical tape and secure it to wire harness. 5. See Figure 3 and Figure 6. Install terminal pin (3) and socket housing (4) onto new wire harness (Figure 6, Item 2). Refer to MULTILOCK ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS in Service Manual for installing socket/pin terminals. 3 4 1 2 is03025 1. Connector (2) 2. Wire harness 3. Terminal pin (4) 4. Throttle twist grip. On right handlebar. Twist inwards to open. When fully closed engine should just idle when hot. Air lever. Small lever on right handlebar. Pull inwards to increase air supply to carburetter. Once set, when engine has warmed up, requires no alteration for different road speeds. Should be fully closed when starting engine from cold. Ignition lever. Small lever on left handlebar. Advances and retards ignition point. Pull inwards to advance on touring models (retard on competition models). Retard two-fifths of total movement for starting. Valve lifter lever. Small lever close to clutch lever. Lifts exhaust valve from seat, releasing compression in combustion chamber, enabling engine to be easily rotated for starting. Also used for stopping engine if throttle stop is set as advised above. Clutch lever. Large lever on left handlebar. Grip to release clutch so that drive to rear wheel is disconnected. Used when moving away from a standstill and when changing gear. Front brake lever. Large lever on right handlebar. Grip to operate front wheel brake and, for normal braking, use in conjunction with rear brake application. Rear brake lever. Pedal close to left side foot rest. Depress with left foot to apply rear brake. Apply gently and use increasing pressure as the road speed decreases. Gear change lever. Pedal in horizontal position close to right foot rest. Con­ trols selection of the four speeds, or ratios, between engine and rear wheel revolutions, with a ” free,” or neutral, position. See illustration 3. Kick-starter lever. Vertical pedal on right hand side of gear box. Operated to start the engine. Lighting switch. In top of head lamp. Controls lamps by a rotating lever which has three positions : (1) “OFF” Lamps not on. (2) ” L ” Pilot bulb in head lamp and rear lamp and speedometer lamp on. (3) ” H ” Head and rear lamp and speedometer lamp on. Ammeter. In top of head lamp. Indicates flow of electric current, in, or out, of battery. (” Charge ” or ” Discharge.”) Horn switch. Press switch on right handlebar. Depress button to sound horn. Gear box filler cap. Located on top edge of kick-starter case cover. Allows insertion of lubricant and access to clutch inner wire. Footrest for rider. One located each side of machine. Petrol tank filler cap. Located in top of fuel tank. To release, slightly depress, turn fully to the left, and then lift away. There are two locking positions. The middle position, between the fully tightened down and ” lift away ” positions, is in the nature of a ” safety ” device to prevent loss that might be occasioned by unauthorised meddling. Oil tank filler cap. Located on top edge of oil tank. The construction and operation is exactly as the petrol tank filler cap. Dipping switch. Trigger switch on left handlebar. Used to select normal or ” dipped ” beam of head lamp when main lighting switch lever is in the ” H ” position. (The head lamp bulb has two filaments.
