STEP 5 Remove the turn signal assembly from the stock mirror. Pay close attention to how the stock turn signal ball joint assembly comes apart as this will aid in re-assembly. STEP 6 Place a star washer over the mounting stud and insert the mirror and stud assembly into the hand control. Re-assemble the turn signal ball joint being sure the turn signal light is aimed to your liking. You may wish to consult your H-D shop manual when re-assembling this ball joint. WIRING: STEP 7 Determine where you wish to splice into the H-D turn signal wiring harness. Cut the harness or strip back an appropriate amount to vinyl wire covering and prepare the wires for splicing. Make the wire connections as follows: Wires from Turn Signal Mirror H-D Turn Signal Wire Colors Black – (Ground) Black (Ground) Red – (Running Light) Blue (Running Light) White (Turn Signal) Violet (Turn Signal) If a more pronounced flash is desired, one may eliminate the running light function and wire as follows: Black Black Red and White together Violet If these turn signal mirrors are to be used in conjunction with stock front turn signals, no load equalizer will be required. If the turn signal mirrors are REPLACING stock front turn signals, in most cases, a load equalizer is required. For easiest access we suggest installing the load equalizer under the seat; tapping into the main wiring harness that leads to the tail lights and rear turn signals.

INSTALLATION NOTES The upper cup washer (A) must be oriented with the flat side up and the lower cup washer (D) with the flat side down. See Figure 1 for the following procedure. 1. Align the components as shown, and install the risers (2) to the upper fork bracket. The ground wire (G) and the internal tooth lock washer (H) are located on the right side only. Do not tighten the riser mounting screws (I) at this time. 2. If an appropriate Harley-Davidson 1-1/4 inch handlebar has not been installed, install one according to the Instruction Sheet included with the kit, or re-install the handlebar assembly onto the risers. 3. Loosely install riser caps (1) onto the handlebars and risers using four socket head screws (3) as shown. 4. Ensure that the risers stay properly aligned with the handlebar and tighten the riser mounting screws (I) to 50-60 ft-lbs (68-81 Nm) . 5. Adjust handlebar to the desired position, ensure that it is centered on the risers, then, starting with the front screws, tighten the four socket head screws (3) to 12-15 ft-lbs (16- 20 Nm) . 6. Turn the handlebars full right and left. Check that: •The handlebars and triple tree clamps do not contact the fuel tank. •The steering stops function properly. •The wiring and brake line are not pinched or kinked in the steering assembly. •Throttle returns from full open to close at both fork stops. Install proper length brake lines. Incorrect brake line length can adversely affect motorcycle operation, which could cause loss of control resulting in death or serious injury. (00325a) •If you are installing different handlebars, measure the change in distance that will be required from the end of the stock brake line to the brake master cylinder. •Compare this revised length to the brake line provided in your kit. •If the line is more than 2.0 in. (50.8 mm) longer or more than 1.0 in. (25.4 mm) shorter than the above measured distance, see a Harley-Davidson dealer for the correct brake line length

INSTALLATION 1. Remove the seat according to the procedure in the applicable Service Manual. To prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause death or serious injury, disconnect negative (-) battery cable before proceeding. (00048a) Disconnect negative (-) battery cable first. If positive (+) cable should contact ground with negative (-) cable connected, the resulting sparks can cause a battery explosion, which could result in death or serious injury. (00049a) 2. Disconnect battery cables, negative cable first. Stop the engine when refueling or servicing the fuel system. Do not smoke or allow open flame or sparks near gasoline. Gasoline is extremely flammable and highly explosive, which could result in death or serious injury. (00002a) NOTE There are two possible methods of connecting the directional signal wires; using the 6-place connector, or by splicing the wires using connectors supplied in the kit. If the splicing method is selected, it will not be necessary to remove the fuel tank. However, the splices will be visible. Proceed to Step 4. 3. Remove the fuel tank according to the procedure in the appropriate Service Manual. 4. See Figure 1. Remove the existing right directional signal according to the procedure in the appropriate Service Manual. Save the internal-tooth lockwasher (1) and spacer (2). 5. Place the internal-tooth lockwasher (1) and spacer (2) (saved in Step 4) on the mirror shaft, and install the mirror (3) in the mounting bracket. Secure the mirror using an internal-tooth lockwasher (4) and acorn nut (5) (both supplied in the kit). If the acorn nut (5) “bottoms” without tightening, add a spacer (6) from the kit in the location shown. 6. Repeat Steps 4 and 5 for the left directional signal.

INSTALLATION NOTE Cover the fuel tank with a clean shop towel to prevent scratching. Damage to the finish could result. 1. Remove the two hex head cap screws and split lock- washers on the underside of the upper fork bracket that hold the currently installed risers in place. Discard the screws, but retain the lockwashers for re-assembly. Retain all additional hardware components that become dislodged from the riser when the screws are removed. 2. Remove and discard the four screws that fasten the currently installed handlebar upper clamp(s) to the risers. Remove and discard the clamp(s). Remove the handlebar from the risers, and carefully allow the handlebar to rest on the fuel tank. 3. Obtain the new slotted risers (1) and hex head cap screws (2) from the kit, and the split lockwashers and hardware components removed in Step 1. NOTE The upper cup washer (A) must be oriented with the flat side up , and the lower cup washer (D) with the flat side down . The ground wire (G) and internal tooth lockwasher (H) are mounted to the right-side riser. 4. Refer to Figure 1 for the correct orientation and reassembly sequence. Install the new risers onto the upper fork bracket using the saved hardware and new screws. Snug the riser screws, but do not fully tighten at this time. 5. Center the handlebar on the risers.
