Remove seat to gain access to rear oxygen sensor connector. Unplug sensor and feed end of wire through frame so that it is free from motorcycle. NOTE: Pay attention to wire routing for re-installation. 2. Remove two bolts holding rectifi er onto front of frame (near front tire). Open plastic cover to gain access to front oxygen sensor connector. Unplug sensor from harness. Remove cable tie holding wire to frame and feed end of wire through so that it is free from motorcycle. 3. Loosen heat shield clamps on both the front and rear head pipes. 4. Remove two cylinder exhaust port fl ange nuts from each head pipe, located at the cylinder head. 5. Remove front head pipe clamp bolt. 6. Remove the bolt that attaches muffl ers to the frame mounting bar. 7. Remove the complete exhaust system and set aside. Assistance may be required. 8. Remove stock mounting bar and the studs in the transmisson cover. Save the bolts, one will be re-used. 9. Remove left bolt below the transmission cover. Position mounting bracket 405-P over mounting location to determine which bolts to remove (Figure 1). Install this bolt in the top hole left vacant by the new bracket. 10. Carefully remove the fl anges and circlips from the stock exhaust system using snapring pliers. NOTE: Replace bent or damaged circlips. Check condition of stock exhaust gaskets. Replace if worn or damaged. (Recommended replacement exhaust port gaskets, Screamin’ Eagle part number 17048-98)

REMOVING THE STOCK EXHAUST SYSTEM 1. Loosen the heat shield clamps on both front and rear exhaust pipes. 2. Remove the two mounting nuts from each head pipe, located at the cylinder head. 3. Remove both front and rear head pipe clamp bolts. 4. Remove the entire exhaust system and set it aside. 5. Carefully remove the flanges and circlips from the stock exhaust system using snapring pliers. Note: If circlips look bent or twisted replace them with new circlips. 6. Remove the rear head pipe clamp bracket from the transmission cover. Save the bolts, two will be reused. INSTALLING YOUR NEW VANCE & HINES EXHAUST SYSTEM 1. Locate the muffler mounting bracket (stamped 239). Mount the bracket to the engine case, to the rear of the transmission cover using the two stock bolts. Refer to figure 1. Tighten the bolts at this time. Install the mounting bar (supplied) to the transmission housing using the stock hardware. Refer to figure 1 . Note: The mounting bracket should mount flatagainst the transmission housing. Some motorcycles use a stud to mount the stock rear head pipe clamp, be sure to remove the stud from the transmission housing and replace it when mounting the bracket, this will insure that the bracket is flat against the housing. 2. Locate the muffler clamp bracket (stamped 240). Install the bracket to the outside of bracket 239, using the 5/16″x 1 1/4″ bolt and 5/16″ flat washer (supplied). Refer to figure 1. Leave the bracket loose, it will be adjusted later. 3. Unscrew all of the hose clamps (supplied) until they are completely loose. Feed the tail end of the hose clamp into the clips on the inside of both heat shields. Note: The screw end of the hose clamp should be accessible, but not visible when pipe is mounted on the bike. 4. Install the circlips and flanges from the stock system onto both the new head pipes. 5. Slide the new pipe clamp (supplied) onto the muffler end of the front head pipe. Position the clamp in the approximate mounting location on the pipe. 6. Place the front head pipe into the heat shield, wrap the hose clamp around the head pipe and give the screw three to four turns, leaving heat shield loose on the head pipe. Repeat this step with the rear head pipe.

Position the clamp in the approximate location on the tube where it mounts to the engine. 5. Slide one pipe clamp (supplied) onto the rear head pipe. Position the clamp in the approximate location on the tube where it mounts to the top hole in the mounting bar bracket. Refer to figure 1. 6. Unscrew all of the hose clamps (supplied) until they are completely loose. Feed the tail end of the hose clamp into the clips on the inside of both heat shields. Note: The screw end of the hose clamp should be accessible, but not visible when pipe is mounted on the bike

REMOVING THE STOCK EXHAUST SYSTEM 1. Remove the two nuts that mount the header to the cylinder head. 2. Remove the rear muffler mounting bolts. Remove the bolt from the insulated mount at the front of the muffler. Save the nuts and bolts for reuse. 3. Remove the stock head pipe and muffler assembly. 4. Using circlip pliers carefully remove the circlip and flange from the stock exhaust system.Save for reuse. INSTALLING YOUR NEW VANCE & HINES EXHAUST SYSTEM 1. Slide the circlip and flange over the VHR head pipe. NOTE: If the circlip looks bent or twisted replace it with a new circlip. 2. Slide the supplied clamp over the head pipe. 3. Install the head pipe into the exhaust port using the stock flange nuts. Leave finger tight at this time. 4. Bolt the head pipe clamp to the engine using the supplied bracket stamped #311. Refer to Fig. 1for the assembly order of the front mounting hardware. Leave loose at this time. 5. Slide the supplied clamp onto the notched end of the muffler assembly. 6. Slip the muffler assembly onto the head pipe. Bolt the muffler assembly to the original mounting points at the rear of the frame, using the supplied 5/16″-18×3/4″ socket head capscrews, stock nuts and washers. 7. Tighten the exhaust flange nuts and muffler clamp. 8. Tighten the two bolts that mount the muffler assembly to the motorcycle. 9. Be sure to tighten all hardware before starting your motorcycle. RE-JETTING INSTRUCTIONS Re-jetting the carburetor will result in realizing the “full” potential of this performance exhaust system. Vance & Hines offers jet kits for most applications

1. On the right hand side of the motorcycle, remove the Allen bolt holding the rear of the fairing to gain clearance to the tail pipe clamp (Figure 1). 2. Loosen the two tail pipe clamps, one on each side of the motorcycle. 3. Loosen and carefully remove the muffl er mount bolts and muffl ers. NOTE: Take care not to let the muffl ers drop against the swingarm as they are quite heavy. 4. If gaskets remain on the stock head pipe remove them. As they will not be re-used in this application. 5. Remove the steel inserts and then the rubber grommets from the mount locations on the left and right passenger footpeg hangers. NOTE: Spraying a little contact or brake cleaner on the rubber will soften it up for a few seconds while you push out the inserts and grommets. The steel inserts and rubber grommets will not be re-used and will be replaced by aluminum spacers in this application
