Models This kit fits 2006 Dyna models. This kit does not fit on motorcycles equipped with saddlebags. Kit Contents See Figure 1 and Table 1. INSTALLATION 1. Place axle covers in position over ends of swingarm with the deeper cover on the left side (covering the axle nut). 2. Fasten the clamping bars (3) to the backs of the covers using hex-head screws (5) and Belleville washers (4), securing the covers to the swingarm. INSTALLATION 1. 1988-1999 FLSTF Models: Remove rear muffler heat shield, loosen rear exhaust Torca clamp, then remove rear muffler from support following the instructions in the appropriate Service Manual. 2000 and Later Models: Remove exhaust system following the instructions in the appropriate Service Manual. NOTE In some cases, if bike has been previously serviced, the axle may have been removed and re-installed from the left side (with castle nut and cotter pin on the right). If this is the case, the axle must be removed and installed from the the right. If axle appears as original configuration (as in Figure 1), it is not necessary to loosen the rear axle nut or remove the cotter pin (or spring clip) from the rear castle nut. 2. All Models: See Figure 1. On the left side of the motorcycle, loosen the axle adjuster screw (1) and jamnut (2) just enough to be able to remove the jamnut. 3. 1988-1999 FLSTF Models Only: See Figure 2. On the right side (brake caliper side), use a T40 TORX drive to remove the two pin bolts from caliper. Remove caliper by gently rocking caliper back and forth to compress caliper piston, then carefully slide caliper off brake disc. Use cable strap or other suitable means to support caliper. 4. All Models: On the right side, loosen the axle adjuster screw and jamnut just enough to be able to remove the jamnut. 5. All Models: See Figure 3. On each side, place retainer clip (oriented as shown) and washer from kit over axle adjuster screw and replace jamnut. Re-assemble all saved components to the new chrome rear wheel assembly. See REAR WHEEL, ASSEMBLY in the Service Manual. Do not re-use brake disc screws. Re-using disc screws can result in torque loss and damage to rotor and/or brake assembly. (00319b) 5. Fasten the brake disc to the valve stem side of the wheel using the Torx®screws from the kit. Install the compensator bowl with the 12-point screws and lockwashers saved earlier. 6. Install the new wheel to the rear fork. Refer to REAR WHEEL, INSTALLATION in the Service Manual. Proceed to Step 7. Front Wheel 2. See Figure 2. Remove the front wheel per the FRONT WHEEL, REMOVAL instructions in the Service Manual. 3. Disassemble, clean and inspect all parts to be re-used per Service Manual instructions. Mark the left and right brake discs so they can be re-installed to the same location. 4. Re-assemble all saved components to the new chrome front wheel assembly. See FRONT WHEEL, ASSEMBLY in the Service Manual. Do not re-use brake disc screws. Re-using disc screws can result in torque loss and damage to rotor and/or brake assembly. (00319b) 5. Using the Torx ® shoulder bolts from the kit, and the saved spring washers fasten the brake discs to the same side of the wheel from which they were removed. 6. Install the new wheel to the front forks per the FRONT WHEEL, INSTALLATION instructions in the Service Manual. Proceed to Step 7. Front and Rear Wheels 7. Refer to the Service Manual and follow the MAXI-FUSE instructions to replace the maxi-fuse and right-side cover. After servicing brakes and before moving motorcycle, pump brakes to build brake system pressure. Insufficient pressure can adversely affect brake performance, which could result in death or serious injury. (00279a) After servicing the brake system, test brakes at low speed. If brakes are not operating properly, testing at high speeds can cause loss of control, which could result in death or serious injury. (00289a) Maintenance and Cleaning Chrome parts must be maintained regularly to ensure that they keep their original shine and luster. 1. Clean heavily-soiled wheel surfaces using Harley Wheel and Tire Cleaner, part number 94658-98, applied with Harley Wheel and Spoke Brush, part number 43078-99. 2. Thoroughly clean chrome with a good quality chrome cleaner, such as Harley Bright Chrome Cleaner, part number 94683-99. 3. Installation Instructions for 79052-04 and 79073-04 Do not exceed 7 lbs (3.17 kg) maximum load in each saddlebag. Additional weight can affect a motorcycle’s stability, handling characteristics, and safe operating speed which may lead to an accident resulting in death or serious injury. NOTE A pick tool (Snap-on TT600-3) will be required for 1996 and later models for removing and reinstalling a multi-lock amp con- nector. NOTE A Service Manual for your vehicle is available from your Harley- Davidson Dealer. Installation – Hugger Models Only (1994-1997) To perform the following steps for Hugger Models only, fender and frame must be sufficiently supported, as both shocks will need to be removed at the same time. An improperly supported vehicle could result in death or serious injury. A Service Manual is needed to install this kit. The rider’s safety depends upon the correct installation of this kit. If the procedure is not within your capabilities or you do not have the correct tools, have your Harley-Davidson Dealer perform the installation. Improper installation of this kit could result in death or serious injury. This 45-amp Rotor Kit is designed for installation on 1999 and later FLHT, FLHTC, FLHR, FLHRI, FLHRCI and FLTR Model Motorcycles. Existing Rotor Removal 1. Remove seat and disconnect battery terminals, negative cable first. 2. Follow instructions in applicable Service Manual and remove the primary chaincase cover. Remove the clutch, primary chain, compensating sprocket and shaft extension as a single assembly. 3. Remove the alternator rotor spacer, if present. Installation The laminated high-output rotor in this kit contains magnets that are considerably more powerful than those used in most previous rotors. The ROTOR REMOVER/INSTALLER and SHAFT PROTECTOR SLEEVE (HD-41771) must be used to prevent parts damage during rotor removal and installation. 1. See Figure 1. Verify threads are clean and thread the Shaft Protector and Rotor Remover/Installer, if removed. NOTE The Shaft Protector Sleeve not only protects the threads from the splines of the rotor, but acts as a guide to ensure that the rotor is properly centered. 2. Turn thumbscrews of Rotor Remover/Installer into threaded holes in rotor face. CAUTION 1 WARNING 1 WARNING 1 WARNING Kit Number 29999-97B Figure 1. Install the shaft extension on engine sprocket shaft. No alternator rotor spacer is necessary). 6. Follow instructions in applicable Service Manual and install the clutch assembly, primary chain and shaft extension as a single assembly. 7. Apply two drops of Red LOCTITE®262 to threads of clutch nut and engine sprocket nut. Tighten nuts as fol- lows: Clutch nut- (left hand threads), 70-80 ft-lbs (94.9-105.5 Nm) Engine sprocket nut- 150-165 ft-lbs (203-223 Nm). 8. Follow instructions in Service Manual and install the Primary Chaincase Cover using new gasket from kit, if necessary.

INSTALLATION NOTE Use the Docking Hardware Kit to assemble two upper and two lower clamps. See the Service Parts illustration. The upper clamps use a mounting pin (4) and the lower clamps use a button head screw (5) to fasten the windshield mounting bushing. 1. Assemble the windshield docking hardware as follows: a. Install a larger chrome washer (6) and bushing (7) onto a button head screw (5). Thread the screw into the boss on one of the clamps (1), and tighten finger tight. Repeat for a second lower clamp. b. Install a larger chrome washer (6) and bushing (7) onto a mounting pin (4). Thread the pin into the boss on one of the clamps (1), and tighten finger tight. Installing Clamps NOTE Place shop rags on the headlamp, front fender and front of the fuel tank to prevent scratches to these components. Be sure the windshield assembly does not contact chrome or painted parts. Contact will cause scratches to chrome or painted parts. 2. See Figure 1. Install a lower clamp onto a fork tube using a smaller chrome washer and lock nut from the kit. Adjust so the clamp is approximately 1/8 inch (3 mm) from the top of the lower triple clamp, then finger tighten the lock nut. Repeat with the second lower clamp and fork tube. NOTE Keep front wheel straight to prevent brackets from scratching fuel tanks. See Figure 1. Install the clamps on the fork tubes so the bushing center lines are 3 inches (76 mm) apart. 3. Install an upper clamp onto a fork tube using a smaller chrome washer and lock nut from the kit. Adjust so the clamp is approximately 1/8 inch (3 mm) from the bottom of the upper triple clamp. Ensure that the center lines of the upper and lower bushings are 3 inches (76 mm) apart, then finger tighten the lock nut. Repeat with the second upper clamp and fork tube

INSTALLATION 1. Refer to service manual and remove the existing seat. 2. See Figure 2. Install the frame cover (9) to the frame and secure with fastener (4). Orient the frame cover to so that it covers the seat pan. 3. Install two springs (2) to the mounting bracket (1), oriented as shown, with screws (3). Tighten screws to 25-30 ft-lbs (34-41 Nm) . 4. Install mounting bracket to frame as follows: a. Remove two screws from the rear of the seat pan area where the spring seat mounting bracket (1) will be mounted. Save washers for later installation. b. Install mounting bracket (1) to the frame over the frame cover. Orient the frame cover so that it will be retained by the mounting bracket when secured. c. Secure the left side of the mounting bracket to the frame with a screw (7), stock washer (B) and spacer (8). Do not tighten. d. Secure the right side of the mounting bracket to the frame with a screw (7) and stock washer (B). e. Tighten mounting bracket screws to 90-108 in-lbs (10-12 Nm) . 5. Install seat pivot bracket (10), washers (15) and screws (5) to the seat. Tighten screws to 48-72 in-lbs (5.5-8.0 Nm) . 6. Remove the rear fuel tank mounting screw, washers, nut and thread protector. Save washers for later installation
