The installation of the AFR Tuner should be done by experienced technicians only. Always disconnect the battery from the motorcycle before making any modification to the wiring harness. Remove the negative terminal from the battery before starting the installation work. The quality of the installation work greatly affects the reliability of the AFR Tuner and the motorcycle. Work precisely and very carefully when modifying the wiring harness of the vehicle. Always double check that the wire you are about to cut or tap into is the correct one. The ECM or the AFR Tuner can be destroyed by a faulty installation. 3.2. Installing the AFR Tuner to the wiring harness 3.2.1. Main cable The AFR Tuner connects to the motorcycle through its Main connector . Figure 2 shows the wiring diagram and the necessary modifications, which needs to be made when installing the unit into the fuel injection system of the motorcycle. Information about the ECM terminal numbers and wire colors for some popular motorcycles can be found in Chapter 6 . The best location for installing the AFR Tuner main unit is at the passenger seat area of the motorcycle mounted in the trunk space or on the subframe under the fairing, as this place provides protection from engine heat and the weather. Electrical contact between the metal casing of the AFR Tuner and the rear subframe must be prevented by using insulating material, such as the included self adhesive velcro strips. If necessary use some cable ties to secure the unit in place. The installation of the AFR Tuner into the wiring harness involves tapping into some wires and cutting others while connecting the two ends to the AFR Tuner. The harness modifications are best done near the ECM, since most of the wires can be found there. Part of the wiring modifications are related to connecting the AFR Tuner in-line between the ECM and the fuel injectors. In such cases when the motorcycle is equipped with primary and secondary injectors the AFR Tuner has to be installed on the primary injectors, which operate under all engine conditions. Correct grounding of the AFR Tuner is very important for electrical noise reduction. The above mentioned insulation of the metal case from the motorcycle frame is necessary for the same reason, which is to avoid the forming of a ground loop. An even more important requirement is the correct connection of the three ground wires of the AFR Tuner. As shown on Figure 2 , these three wires must be led out separately to the ECM and connected together at same point where the ECM ground wire is tapped into. This point should be as close to the ECM terminal as possible. For best quality of the electrical contacts all connections should be done by soldering and covering the exposed part of the wire with heat shrink tubing. For reliability reasons do not use clip on type wire taps

The pillion included in Kits 53432-02 (Sundowner) and 52927- 05 (Tallboy) must be installed through the grabstrap from back- to-front. To install the Sundowner or Tallboy Pillion on a motorcycle having a sissybar upright installed on Fender Base Plate Kit 51120-01, remove the upright before installing the pillion. Reinstall the upright after the Sundowner Pillion is installed. For kit numbers 52028-02 (Custom), 52036-01 (Vinyl Bad- lander) and 51584-01 (Leather Badlander) Seat Kits, be aware of the following: The 2003 Model Year 100th Anniversary VRSCA vehicle with two-tone sterling silver and vivid black paint has protective tape covering the rear under-the-seat area of the airbox cover. For the seats listed above, it will be necessary for cosmetic reasons, to carefully remove the protective tape and reapply it so it is in the correct position for these shorter-nose seats. Some trimming of the lower portion of the protective tape may be necessary to eliminate interference with the airbox cover latch. If necessary, reorder protective tape (48403-03). 4. Install new pillion into position through grabstrap. Prevent pinching TSSM control wiring by routing the cable through the channel on the underside of the pillion (see Figure 2) and away from the pillion mounting bolt. Pinched wiring may damage the TSSM system. 1 3 2 is00014 1. Pillion 2. Grabstrap 3. Pillion base mounting hole Figure 3. Pillion Base Mounting Hole 5. See Figure 3. Push the pillion (1) forward through the grabstrap (2) until the pillion mounting hole is approximately 25 mm (1 in.) forward of the hole (3) in the frame. 6. See Figure 2. Push down on the pillion and slide the pillion toward the rear to engage the pillion slot with the fender tongue (5). Push rearward until the pillion mounting holes align. After installing pillion, pull upward to be sure it is locked in position. While riding, a loose pillion can shift causing loss of control, which could result in death or serious injury. (00387a) 7. Install original pillion mounting bolt. Tighten bolt to 11-14 Nm (97-124 in-lb ) . 8. Re-install the sissybar upright, if removed earlier. 9. Position the seat (as if opened) onto the frame. Slide the seat forward to insert the seat-hinge pins into the bushings on the frame. 10. See Figure 1. Clip the plastic seat-hinge sleeve (2) over the seat hinge. 11. See Figure 1. 1. Make sure your bike is cool and parked on a flat secure surface! 2. Find your battery (you may have to remove your seat or side covers in order to get to your battery) Disconnect the NEGATIVE ( -) cable. Negative battery cable must be disconnected from the battery in order to avoid safety hazards! Be sure as you disconnect the Negative cable that it does not touch or make contact with your Positive terminal 3. Your new motorcycle LED lights are polarity sensitive–meaning that the RED wires on the LEDs must be hooked to the Positive (+) terminal and the BLACK wires must be hooked to the Ground (-) . All Red Wires must go to a common power wire and ALL Black Wires must go to a common ground. You cannot run the LED motorcycle lights in a series nor can you run the wires from one motorcycle LED light to another in a loop type installation. ( All of the wires on the motorcycle LED lights which you install will end up together in one place at your battery.) 4. Pick a hidden flat surface around the front of your seat area to mount the switch. ( You must be able to reach the switch when the seat and/or side covers are back on your bike.) You will install your switch later using the double-sided tape provided to you. 5. Next, begin choosing the locations where you would like to mount your motorcycle LED lights. Choose areas which will give you the most light coverage overall, but which will allow the motorcycle LED lights itself to be hidden from easy view when you are standing back and looking at the bike. 6. Clean each area where you choose to place a motorcycle LED light with the alcohol based cleaner making sure all dirt and/or oil is removed from that area

1. Flip up seat, to gain access to radiator reservoir area. 2. Remove Dzus fastener to remove simulated fuel tank cover, over airbox housing. Depending on which model V-Rod is being worked on, the front shrouds covering the upper front frame section may also need to be removed. 3. Place Fi2000 in under-seat area, run fuel injector connector harness up right side frame rail between top right frame rail, and radiator overflow tank, see Figure 1. At the rear of the airbox, route the harness below the airbox, and downward next to the inner radiator hose. Unplug both stock fuel injector connectors, on the front and rear injectors between the engine cylinders, see Figure 2. These are disconnected, by depressing the metal springs that are on the end of each female connector. The stock female connectors are marked “F” and “R”, noting which connector goes to the front and rear injector, be sure to pay attention to this. Now connect the longer male Fi2000 connector to the front female H.D. connector. Plug shorter Fi2000 male connector into the stock rear female H.D. connector. Then plug the longer female Cobra connector onto the front stock H.D. injector. Plug the shorter Fi2000 female connector onto the rear injector. Each injector connector pair should rest underneath each respective injector. 4. It is now time to install the oxygen sensor eliminator modules. This product is designed to eliminate the “check engine” light from coming on when the stock oxygen sensors are disconnected on Harley Davidson Motorcycles utilizing fuel injection. The motorcycle has a full “open loop” fuel injection map written in its ECU and the motorcycle reverts to this default map after the oxygen sensors have been removed or just disconnected. 5. Locate the rear oxygen sensor and follow the harness up to the under-seat area behind the radiator overflow tank. Pull the stock connectors up from below the overflow tank and disconnect, see Figure 1. Plug one of the supplied Oxygen sensor eliminators on to the stock male connector. Tuck the connectors back underneath the bracket behind the radiator overflow tank. 6. Now locate the front oxygen sensor on the front headpipe, and trace the oxygen sensor harness back to the connectors tucked between the left front frame rail and plastic radiator shroud, see Figure 3. Pull these connectors out, and disconnect them. Plug the remaining supplied oxygen sensor eliminator on to the stock male connector. Tuck the connectors back in between the frame rail and plastic shroud
